I can't remember if it was CM6.1 rc1, rc2, or rc3 but some where along the line the 2g 2g/3g toggling has gotten weird. If I switch the data symbol on the top (G,E,3G, or H) goes away and I never get data back. If I mess around and toggle it a few times it eventually comes back, if I reboot the data comes back until I try to toggle again. Does anybody have any suggestions?
I googled this problem and found one person that had a similar issue and some one else responded saying they got a new sim card and that fixed the problem. I just can't see how the sim would have anything to do with this and more importantly I don't want it to be the sim. I was hoping for a "not leave the house or open my wallet" sort of solution

T-mo practically gives away sim cards. No joke, I used to get new ones all the time, my old phone fried them like no other.
Anyway, it's actually quite possible that it is the sim card. People have solved low signal issues with a SIM replacement, likewise, issues with connectivity after switching frequencies could have something to do with a damaged or worn sim card. If you found someone with a similar problem that solved it with a SIM replacement then that would be my first step if I were you. After that I would redownload and reflash your ROM, to eliminate corruption.
thanks for the response, maybe I will get a new sim, I just wonder what I should say as far as why I think I need a new one.

Disregard the random thanks, I'm still not used to the quote button not being on the outside haha.
I don't know, the store I go to, if I just walk in and ask for a new sim card they just ask for my account info and give me one. If they ask for a reason just say you're having connectivity issues or that your phone isn't recognizing your SIM anymore. They won't pursue it, it's an incredibly inexpensive card.
Also, why isn't there an "unthanks" button. Kinda sucks xD
I got a new sim, wiped, and reflashed and still the same problem. However I noticed that if I wait long enough it does eventually toggle, so I guess the problem is a ridiculously slow 2g -2g/3g toggle

Well it does take up to 30 seconds to switch the radio mode yes but I thought it wasn't reconnecting after you toggled at all.
I didn't think it was, it used to only take 30 seconds, now it's more like 3-5 minutes

: Hi guys, I have been having this issue with my dash, most of the time its saying "searching" and I cannot get any signal, I have flashed different ROMS and none of them seem to be solving the problem, sometimes it switches to "phone off" by itself, and then it continues between 2 bars of signal and "searching" and I know its not the service because when I switch to my RAZR it works just fine, any suggestions please?

This may or may not help, but to eliminate all variables I would suggest trying a new sim card just for kicks. I know that it works in your RAZR, but the smart phones are a little touchier with older version sims; especially if there are any divits, scratches, or obviously any build up on them. The latest TMO Series 3 sims look like a globe (the gold contact area).
I can't tell from your sig what country you are in or what provider you have, but if you are with TMO US they will swap it out for free at any corporate store; at least ours does. Besides it never hurts to have the newest version anyways.
also if you're on tmo, you can check on their site the coverage area, and see if you're on a bad part of their network.
Hey.
I have a big problem with my desire. The phone is fully working, but when it goes into standby, and I try to turn it on using the "power button" at the top, the keys light up, but nothing comes on the screen It just doesn't turn on again.
Any ideas? Thanks!
In the general section on the desire forum there is a topic related to defective proximity sensor. i,m a new forum-user so i can't make a link yet
Thanks for the help so far, but couldn't find anything that solved my problem :/ Have to restart the phone every time it goes into standby
Like many others, I am also experiencing this standby-of-death (SOD) problem: the lights in the buttons under the screen turn on, but the screen itself stays black. I have found out that it has to do with switching from 3G to 2G networks: the problem occurs after I have been at places where there is no 3G signal, but only 2G. For example, after a car trip or when going into the basement.
A workaround for this problem, is to type the code *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer. You will then end up in a hidden menu. By choosing "Phone information" (first item) and then scrolling down in the next screen, you can change the "Preferred network type". By default, it was set to "WCDMA preferred" on my phone. After I changed this setting to "WCDMA only" (so, 3G only), I have not seen the SOD issue anymore (for 4 weeks now, before it happened almost daily).
A disadvantage of this workaround is that the phone will never use 2G anymore. So, when you are at a place where there is no 3G signal, you will be disconnected (i.e. you cannot receive phone calls). As an alternative, I have now reverted the setting to the original value ("WCDMA preferred") and I have installed an older radio image (version 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2), which is considered to be more stable by many people. I'll test and see whether the problem reoccurs. If the problem stays away, it is apparently a software (radio image) issue. If not, it must be a hardware issue.
Anyway, if anyone has additional information about the root cause of this standby issue, please let me know!

OMG I love you!
Seriously this has been doing my head in for weeks! I have posted a couple of times in this forum. First time, constantly remvoing and replacing the battery left me with a bricked phone. HTC revived it under warranty but after a week I got sick of Sense (and the poor battery life) and tried rooting again (tried Redux and CM7) but the problem came back. Makes sense because it works fine around Bristol (loads of 3G) but constantly SODs in Bournemouth (flicks between 2G and 3G at my desk). Also, just had data off for a few hours and didn't get SOD once.
I am not up on the lingo yet as I am fairly new to rooting but running Baseband version 32.49.00.32H_5.11.05.27. Is this the radio?
Please keep me posted on the older radio version. Shouldn't need a long test period, just need to go from a known 3G area to a known 2G area while locked.

Yes it is the radio.
I have got GingerVillain (Based on CM) and I use the Power Control widget to switch between 2G and 3G. You can customise the widget (just add it to a screen) to get this feature.
I haven't got any 3G around my house so I don't need to activate it all the time .
Yeah Redux has a similar thing so I will use that until a proper solution is found.
Small update: enabling 2G only didn't fix the issue (I think 3G only is okay) so perhaps the issue is with 2G rather than switching between the two.
Instead I am using an app called "3G Data Only!" so that 2G can still be used for calls but not data, working great so far.
I have tied the latest Radio (32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23) and the problem does not go away.
How come this problem doesn't occur to (many) others? Could it be related to your network provider? Maybe you could change the SIM with another, from another network, and see what happens. Also, you could make use of the phone warranty - if it's still covered by it.

On o2 (in UK) right now, will try out another sim later. As for warranty, never had any issues on non-root Froyo Sense so can't do anything.

Great, I'll try this application! Would be very nice if that fixes the problem without disabling 2G phone calls. I never use 2G for data (too slow anyway), but I would like to be able to still make phone calls when out of range of 3G cells.

It might be, I don't know. I'm using a Telfort SIM, connected via the KPN network (Netherlands).
3G data only works a treat for that, you can make calls.
Found with the old radio that it is a lot more stable than the new radio but not 100% perfect. Where I work I only have 2G and it would SOD all the time but now it doesn't. However on a journey I make with intermittent 2G/3G I did get a SOD.

3G Data Only doesn't work well enough. The SOD issue does occur less frequently, but the phone still hangs sporadically. So, if have disabled 2G completely again.
You should try Insertcoin. I haven't had this issue since I started using IC v32 a2sd.
Hi there. So i get the same thing on mine. I thought I should report my experience.
Had it over a year old then all of a sudden it started acting like this
heres what i tried
Factory reset, rooted it twice, boot with no sim, no SD card, dismantled it via instructions I found on an android forum to check for loose connections, gave it to a friend who ran some different roms, overclocked it, underclocked it. Its currently on the Oxygen rom, no difference. I tried the secret menu from page one of the comments. I tried living with leaving the screen on for 30 mins..but its so impractical
I should add that if i leave it for say a couple of hours, the damn thing comes on just fine. Its only from being on, to off, then back on..
I think its hardware related, maybe something to do with the power being held back for the screen or something. All i can say is that its really doing my tits in and i'm currently using my old phone which is functional but not as fun.
What can i do next...send to HTC, i'm out of warranty but their repair centre can still have a look, or buy a faulty phone off ebay and harvest some parts...
I dont want to give up on it, because apart from this the phone works fine.
guys i had this problem too, when i force to use 3G only everything works perfect but in area with no 3G signal your phone become useless cuz you are out of network, i also had a self-rebboting problem and i sent my lovely desire to htc repair center, they replace mobo and now i am waiting to receive my phone back and i will test this issue, if everything will works correctly in 3g/gsm etc you guys need to do the same and sent your phone to repair,
Ok guys, I'm getting frustrated with this data issues I've been having.
I've done searches everywhere and have yet to find any solutions or even anyone else with the same issue so maybe by chance someone here will have an idea.
Whenever I am heavily using my data connection (i.e. streaming music, you tube, constant web browsing) my data connection just goes dead. It stops streaming, stops loading websites, i get connection retry/timeout errors, etc etc etc.
This only happens over cell networks not wifi. My phone still shows the 3G or H connection icon like its still connected, but everything stops working. and the most annoying part is it happens after about 2-10 minutes of heavy data use. If I'm just lightly browsing the web (going to a website, staying there a little while then on to another link/site) it doesn't seem to do it as often, if at all.
After the data connection seems to go dead (still shows connected via 3G or H icon mind you), if I leave my phone alone for about 15-30 minutes, everything starts working fine again. But I usually get impatient and just go into the settings, disable data connection and then immediately re-enable it and it starts working again for another 2-10 minutes of heavy use!
As if all this wasn't weird enough, THIS PROBLEM HAS FOLLOWED ME FROM MY NEXUS ONE TO MY NEW G2! With my N1 tech support thought I had a faulty radio chip so they replaced the device and that didn't help, that's when I decided to sell the N1 and switch to the G2. Since then I've gotten a new sim card and that hasn't help. I thought maybe somehow it was my SD card, but it does it with the SD card removed too.
What the hell man?!? I'm at my wits end here.
Try to see if you can get a new sim card for free. I know thats sort of a strange issue but it you had it on both you nexus and g2 i dont even know what else to suggest.

How many bars of signal do you have? I've noticed that the G2's data connection is pretty much useless if you have two bars or less of signal.

I have a T-Mobile G2 and I have experiencing the same issue! And I can't figure out what the problem is. I have tried the new SIM card that came with the G2 and that didn't work. I am getting really frustrated and the Technical Support from T-Mobile isn't much help either. Does anyone have a solution?
I spoke with a representative yesterday and he asked me to change the following setting:
From your Homescreen, click the "menu" button --> Settings --> Wireless & Networks --> Mobile Networks --> Access Point Names --> T-Mobile Data
Click on T-Mobile Data and it will allow you to edit the access point. Select APN and change it to "internet2.voicestream.com" from "epc.tmobile.com".
He then asked me to restart my phone. It's been working so far (for a day)! I will keep you posted.

About a week ago I was using my G2 and everything was working perfectly. I then went into updates and did a PRL and Profile update and BOOM my LTE stopped working and I was forced to 3G. Now for the past 4 days or so my 3G barely works and most of the time I get no data at all. I'm even starting to get zero bars and a red x. I've tried nearly everything I can think of to remedy this issue but nothing I've done has fixed it.
I've gone into the hidden menu and enabled LTE only and the LTE comes on and works great! But...You can't just be on LTE only because then CDMA doesn't work and you can't receive calls or texts. I've also turn the phone from voice centric to data centric but then I couldnt receive calls, I could only MAKE calls.
I've done all the obvious stuff like turn my phone from global to cdma/lte and vice versa. When I reset my phone LTE will come on for 2 seconds tops then stop and push me to 3G...then after a while 3G will stop working.
I'm completely stock, not rooted.
I've talked to a guy at sprint and he's told me that they know the G2 has issues with CDMA/LTE switching
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have read some people say take it in and out of airplane mode to get lte back but i would think a reboot would correct the problem as well. Maybe you have a sprint tower down in your area.

There's a dialer code you can enter to reset data and force a reactivation. It fixed some weird data issues I was having. I'll see if I can dig it up.

For a site that advocates search so much, XDA's search function is absolutely horrendous. It searches wildcards before literals(good luck searching anything with a symbol) and numbers that I copied and pasted from the thread somehow show no results. But I digress...

Actually it's a Spark issue. The only remedy is to wait for Sprint to put out an update or disable spark. You can disable it by dialing ##data#, go into LTE - edit (you'll need your MSL. There's a dialer code to get it just look here on the forums) then disable bands 26 and 41 and set their priority to 0. Afterwards your LTE will be back to normal.
Edit - ##443336772# Shows MSL code near the bottom of the screen
It almost seems to be an LTE handoff issue - they had similar issues with other devices during the buildout here in Chicago (my poor N2 was nearly 3G for almost 6 months due to the issue. I occasionally have issues but ##SCRTN# has resolved them.

You're welcome! Glad I could help!
This has been a frustrating issue I've been having pretty much since starting up my T-mobile service about a month ago.
To start off, my G3 is unrooted and on the latest stock software version, 20e.
I use Wifi calling often because I get 0-1 bars of reception at work. All seems to work well until I go outside and try to make a phonecall over the voice network. I'll have plenty of signal bars, be connected to 4G even, yet when I try to use the phone dialer to make a call it will say "Not connected to Mobile Network." or something along those lines.
I haven't done extensive testing, but I believe the other day I toggled the "Mobile Data" off then back on and was able to make calls.
Has anyone else had this trouble? Is it something possibly to do with Wifi and/or Wifi calling?
I believe I could make a phonecall using Hangouts when I was off of wifi, which tells me that the data part is working, but not the voice network.
I contacted T-mobile support, but they just had me do the "typical" things, like shut down the phone, remove the battery/SIM, start everything back up. And sure enough, it worked after that, but I'd rather not have to restart my phone or toggle stuff to get it to work as it should without any hassle.
Thanks!
My wife has the same problem after the 20E update. Her mobile is stock as well. It did not happen on 20B.

Off the top of my head no. I'll dig around a bit and see what if anything I come up with.,
From the digging I did I can't seem to find any help. The only thing I can think of is to factory reset it thing and see if it helps. I am going to do do it on my wifes phone tonight.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too... I'm not really in the mood to deal with restoring all of my apps and whatnot, so I'll hold off on the factory reset for now.
If you remember, could you let me know the results? If I know for fair certainty that a wipe will fix the issue, I might do it.
Thanks!
It's a network problem and it is worst on Samsung phones. I recently went and got a new sim card and it seems to have fixed it. I read it is because if you live in a area where there is poor coverage it causes your sim to where out fast.

This started happening before my first month of T-mobile service was even up with a brand new SIM. I'm not saying that it's definitely not a SIM issue, just would seem unlikely that it's worn out that fast.

Thanks!
