[DInc] [DEVS] Porting GB - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello from the DInc forums! =]
Haha, well, first off, I know this is the Evo forum. You guys have a working GB port already, so I was wondering if you could help with the port to the DInc. Devs over there are practically nonexistant. And well, devs over here are everywhere!
As far as I can tell, the files I need to change (to get a boot) are in boot.img. I've swapped out some ramdisk files (init executable) for some CM ones, and a CM kernel. However, I am now getting an error. (Full logcat attached)
Any devs want to chime in?
PS Maybe I'm going about it wrong way. If someone could just tell me HOW the GB-to-Evo port was done, hopefully I can figure something out.

[Q]3.0.x Kernels (usb host part 2)

Is someone working on a 3.0.x kernel for our g2, desire z etc? Because I've seen that these kernels are perfect with usb host. And if noone is working on it, why? Does this operation make many problems? I've seen that there are a few for nexus s, but noone for our device.
I haven't been able to find any thread about compiling a 3.0 kernel for android devices, so I can't understand which is the reason for which it hasn't been already done or which are the problems.
Thanks and sorry for the english...
As far as I know there are people working on 3.0 kernels, however as of yet not a single developer managed to get it to boot on any device (I believe this is the gist of what Flinny posted in the andromadus thread in the dev section.) I am guessing that this is a very major undertaking and simply very, very hard to accomplish.
I don't know if anyone is working on a 3.0 kernel for the dz in particular, if they are though, they likely have a long way to go.
The reason why the Nexus S has working 3.0 kernels is, that google provided them with an official ics upgrade on which the devs were able to base their work.

Thanks, didn't notice Flinny's post, we may try to port Nexus S kernel, I'll have a deeper look into it.

Yes, we should do like they did, open a dev thread and start working on it, but I personally don't have enough ability to work on it. I'll keep on reading and learning for the moment! Thank you.
there seems to be progress:

Nice, hope they can get it to work.
What about how it works? Does it recognize by itself wheter it should be host or client when plugging usb cable?
The Desire HD is getting an official ICS release, so we should expect 3.0 kernel source for that at some point, which will help us a lot given how similar the DHD is to our phones.

[Q] ICS kernel building

What do i need to do to prepare for making the changes to the evo 4g drivers and kernel to make it all compatible for ICS? i know i probably won't be the FIRST one to do it, but...
I have wanted to learn how to build for a while, and apparently everyone needs this, so i figure i would learn and help everyone out as well

Developing roms from source

Hello all I am new to this forum and I use the roms from here all the time. I have a kindle fire that I have rooted and installed aokp ics on. anyways to the real question I am wanting to learn to build roms, I know a little bit about it but not near enough I bought a book for building android apps too learn more and I am learning, I was wondering if anyone can assist me. Thanks in advance
Im not wanting to completely compile myself I just want to learn how to maybe borrow a source from someone and build my own custom rom.
edit: later down the road i will learn to completely compile from source but I dont have a pc compatible of that yet
glad to hear im not the only one

Need help with in Deodexed stock rom

Hey guys im trying to deodexed my stock rom and maybe make roms but im stock on deodexed. Im getting all kinds of errors with ultimaxe. Is that how you do it? Im looking for a guide on doing this for samsung devices like this one and on ics but cant seem to have luck. All i see is ultimaxe but like i said im having problems. Or is it possible that you can make me a stock rom with deodexed?
So nobody knows!!!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18625670
You want something like this?
Yeah that it thank you buddy. Although im trying to put my knowlage more further by learning how to develop roms but the first step is deodexed and I was stuck. This ^^ would make a good start
So nobody is interesting on having a stock deodexed rom? I've been trying to do mine and I'm having problems with XUltimate although the test pass so I have everything I need but It get error on option 3!
I can't speak for everyone but I'm past stock anything and if you look hard enough its probably been done a few times. I'm sure if you go hang out on the IRC channels you will find lots of ppl doing it or willing to help. I can say this, after some things that have happened here over the past few weeks you are going to have a hard time getting ppl to flash your first ROM build. I would find someone to team up with, a known dev, and work with them. After a pro can vouch for you life will get a lot easier for you. I could be wrong and won't go in to details about the past issues. But I would go that route.
I am no dev and have no interest in building a ROM but if I did that's what I would do.
Good luck, hope you do very well and maybe one day I will be flashing your builds.
Thank you for your answer. Yeah I am very aware of JalStudio BS. It just that I would like a good stock rom with tweaks and themed. Heck not even Gnow works because its not deodexed. I've been an android user since the vibrant and have a lot of knowledge on android. I till now learning all of this stuff about making roms and stuff. It seems easy but when you get an error and you know you have everything that you need you just lost like me. XUltimate goes good but when its time to deodexed it gives me an error on every .odex file. Something about bootclass whatever. I gonna do what you said contact a few devs and use IRC. P. S I cant wait till xda-university comes out. That should give a lot of information. It might be a long time my friend when you see roms ported by me. Because first I want to use it as a personal use and then maybe release it.

[Q] Custom ROM Questions for SGH-I927

Hey, I know there are already a fair number of threads out there on this, but they all seem to be for "n00bs" or beginners, which I am not. I would like to write a custom ROM, including comiling the kernel and all that other jazz. I get the basics of *modifying* a ROM, but what if I want to significantly change something? And I have yet to find a tutorial on how you can compile the Android kernel for the Captivate Glide. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance!
EDIT:
I'm thinking about trying to just compiling vanilla ICS (pun intended ) so that I can get the hang of the process. Then I can do my own stuff and not be constantly worrying about bricking my phone.
