Hi,
I just bought a desire z (t-mobile g2) and the battery cover doesn't seem to close properly. And when it is closed, it's not completely flush with the rest of the device. Has anybody else had this problem?
I'm not sure whether there's a problem with the device or the cover itself. It the problem is just with the cover it would save the hassle of having to go back and replace it since everything else about the phone is just perfect. Any feedback would be great.

I have this problem sometimes myself. I fjnd if i dont put it back in just perfect it does that. Sometimes my battery doesnt fit perfect too. My only complaints about this phpne so far.

When you say it stopped working, did you by any chance have the phone on a worktop? or was you holding it in your hand?
There are reported issues with phones not working all the time when on a worktop, however mine always works when its in my hand.
When my phone is laying flat on any surface the screen just refuses to respond... however if I angle it just slightly it works just fine, or if I pick it up.
I have the same issue when its in the car dock. I didn't have the issue when I was running the stock bell rom this only happened when I installed cyanogen 6.1
My g2's touchscreen gets super lllaagggyyy, like laggy as crap whenever it is connected to the charger @ near full charge. It's random...yet it's not, like for instance..I can put it on the charger and initially it's very responsive. Then, after a few minutes charging the screen *seems* to be unresponsive, I just have to swipe it slowly and it jerks by @ like..5fps seemingly. This has happened on every rom ive tried so far from stock to CM.
Just installed MIUI and haven't had a chance to test..i'm assuming it's hardware related though.
When I First got my G2, The TMo Rep asked me to open it up at the store since i was getting the first one from that store and the touch screen didnt work at all, we turned it off and on and nada. So they replaced it with another one and it worked just fine. Other than that little problem i never had a issue on my G2 as far as touch screen freezing goes
Seems like shoddy hardware to me... I've never dropped the phone.. its always been in a protective cover.
Although I couldn't help thinking.. maybe all the extreme overclocking / general heating up of the phone may have contributed??

I have never OC my desire Z (not G2) but I have noticed the exact same symptoms of an unresponsive touch screen after flashing cyanogen 6.1.
I returned back to my stock rom and everything is back to normal.
I haven't had a problem since..
yes, when its on a worktop (table, desk, anything not my hand) and in a dock -- its not as responsive as you'd expect. I have to hold it and caress it with my warm loving hands to get it to respond.

this is not related to CM 6.1. at all. Ive flashed a lot of things since visionary and its happened on every single rom.
Id go get that phone out of the mail if I were you OP.

I have figured that you just have to keep one finger on the aluminium body and the problem is gone. I have to admit that this is somewhat bizarre and I have never had this problem before with my G1 using the same car holder. Seems that there is an issue with electric isolation? I don't exactly understand how capacitive touchscreen works so can't really explain where the dog lies buried.
Maybe this is a feature. Protection and saves battery.

The same for my DZ - it is kinda weird, because if the phone is for example in the car holder it is impossible to use the touchscreen unless I put another finger on the phones housing. I tried different roms already, but the 'error' is still there.
It would be interesting if all users have the same problem or if it is just a few examples of phones out there.

Wow,.... only just noticed this a few days ago. Along with it not vibrating on incoming SMS, i'm starting to get slightly ticked off.

I really have a big problem with my arc. Don't know why, but since June (around) my Arc automatically reboots after
- putting it down at the table after a call
- running and keeping the Arc in my pocket
- showing friends pictures and touching slightly and smoothly a table with the edge...
and so on.
At the end, I assume that it has a problem with the accelerometers or gyroscopes inside. Does anybody else have these problems?
It really bothers me, because my arc reboots 5 times a day.
Hope for a solution here. Otherwise, I ll send it back.
Try to put paper between the battery and battery cover.
Maybe the battery is a bit lose.

I don't think it was a problem with your battery. I think there was probably some gap so all these little nudges and shocks cause it to lose contact and hence the phone rebooting.
Wedging the battery in a bit better worked for my mate.
Seems they can be a bit loose for some reason, doesn't affect me though.

I had this same problem, even with a case.
Used some ripped up bits of thick paper you get from the tear-offs from a wage slip and it hasn't happened since.
Im happy its easily solved but a little miffed that its obviously a design issue.
I think I fixed it by replacing the battery. This battery seems to be little thicker and bigger. So, root cause is obviously a design issue, too.

yesterday i dropped my DHD, and i realized the wifi stop working. when i turn on the wifi at settings, it just said "error", and wont detect mac address.
thingkng it just rom acting abnormally, i just reflashed over, aaand.. it still the same. so i factory reset, and it still the same. so i came with a conclusion that the wifi hardware must be broken, so i gave a try to 'knock' it and it works!
so after a small knock again my wifi dead again..
i wonder if it possible to nudge the wifi module, but i dont know where the module located,
the service centre said, they had to replace the main board and cost $145, duh!
anybody had tried to work with wifi antenae?

Check to make sure your battery cover is on properly and not loose. I'm pretty sure that is the wifi antenna.

i'm not sure the battery cap has anything to do with this, but i'm pretty sure the battery cap was snap properly.
yeah, i hope someone had the clue how to nudge the antena,
The wifi antenna sits in the battery door, it's the little metal clip you can see in the door when taking out the battery.
You can try to fix yours if it's broken, or buy a new one on Ebay.

It happened the same to me, I repalced the battery cover and still no WIFI.
I tried using an APK named "FXR WIFI Fix and rescue" it fixed it, but after a day it was unable to connect again.
Looks like it's time to change my dear DHD

I just tried wifi with removed battery cover and it's scanning without giving any error.
gampangingats, if you are using Sabsa, it's still possible that this is a ROM issue, happened to me a couple of times, but system restart (full) always fixed it.
Right. This is a royal mess here, with everyone giving different ideas.
First ensure that both covers (battery door & bottom SIM/SD Card cover).
Then try a rock stable ROM (BlackICE, or something CM7 based is always good)
Then try the rooted stock ROM (search for it, its here somewhere)
Report back once you've done all that..

Have been having some problems with overheating which I thought I might post here. Thought it was a standard problem on my stock phone: G2 unlocked by TMob. They have replaced the battery a few times and the phone a few times
Then a few days ago I discovered the phone catastrophically hot in my pocket. Too hot to touch!! I called TMob and they offered a replacement (or of course I can pay some small fortune for a minor upgrade)
While I was on the phone with them I noticed that I can unlock the rear without touching the metal cover to take the battery out. When I did this, I noticed that the (half depleted) battery wasn't inordinately hot!!
Has anyone come across this symptom before please? I am a bit reluctant to accept another replacement if this problem will persist and am starting to wonder what is the appropriate phone to replace it with? Or is the only solution in the US to switch to AT&T and see what they have to offer or is this the disaster which it seems to be?
Anyone got any ideas? (Since I discovered Swype, I NEVER use the keyboard)
Heavy use will do it. It doesn't have to be yours. If you are getting a bunch of emails, just texted, etc. it
can get hot; especially if you are outside

I've only notice it right after I've falshed something new. Other than that, very rarely (just charging).
I've noticed three things get my various smart phone/PDAs heating up over the years.
1: Charging
2: CPU/GPU usage. The more the phone works, the hotter
3: Radio usage. Cellular radio always seems the hottest.
GT-N5110 wifi version. Ive had this device for 10 days. Out the box it was running 4.1.2 and seemed work great other than the occasional 3-5 seconds when screen would become unresponsive during normal use. After using it for a few days I decided to go ahead and update to 4.2.2 thinking maybe it would fix the screen issue. It did fix that issue but now im having another problem. After the device sits dormant for awhile the screen doesnt respond to touch but still works fine with the s pen. Ill turn it on after sitting all night and after swiping to unlock the screen it becomes unresponsive. I usually have to lock/unlock the screen several times before it will start responding. After it starts working I can be on it for hours with no more problems. But if I lock the screen an set it down for awhile when I go to use it again it does the samething. It seems like it has to warm up. I tried doing factory data reset but that didnt help. It is rooted also but the only thing ive done so far is get rid of some bloatware.(i didnt root it untill after the problem started). Anyone have any advice?

That does sound rather crazy, the unresponsiveness is out of the ordinary... did you try turning off a lot of the extra features built in by Samsung? another thing you could do is download Clean Master from the play store and take a look at your Ram use-age and clean out some cache files with it, this might help with the lag. The touch response could be hindered due to a case or screen protector... other than that the only thing i could think is if there was physical damage done to it before that could cause the touch screen to act that way.
Ummmm... I would have taken it back to the store and asked for a replacement.
That is not normal at all. even with the device's settings left alone, there should not be any issues with responses with touch.
Note... The pen feature is totally separate from touch. The screen has two different features, one being a digitizer for the pen function the other for touch. It is possible that during assembly that the connection for the touch screen is faulty, as a bad solder joint during wave process could make the connection heat related. As the device cools, the contacts contract causing a fault with touch operation. When heated up from normal use, expansion forces contact between connector and board for normal operation to function with touchscreen.

The problem was my samsung book cover! Can't believe samsung would make a cover that causes these kinds of issues. Glad I only paid 7 bucks on ebay instead of 50 at best buy. Thanks guys for the comments!

Thanks for the FYI. I was using the moko whatever with a keyboard and I got the freezes all the time. I was thinking about the official Samsung one but if that gives you problems then forget it. I almost sold this thing on eBay cause I couldn't take the freezes anymore. Now I use a tpu case with it and couldn't be happier
