A new update is available for the HTC Desire bringing its firmware version up to 2.29.405.2. The update is only confirmed to be going out to unlocked Desire handsets for now, no word on if and when carrier-locked versions will have their go. A changelog hasn’t been provided just yet, but the 28.87MB size and word from Desire users suggests this is a simple maintenance release.
Of course, some speculate it could be preparing the device for Gingerbread compatibility once that time comes, but there is nothing to suggest that just yet. You can check on the update as always through your ‘Settings/About Phone System software updates’ menu. Be warned you will need 25MB of free internal storage before the update will be granted to you.

Sorry for being a complete noob but does this apply to anyone using a custom rom?
No it doesn't. These updates are only for non-rooted, stock ROMs.
Thanks for the heads-up.

Bricked?
Ok now I went on and did the most stupidest thing I could think of. I actually managed to install the update on a rooted Desire and now it wont boot, Im stuck in a boot loop ( Can someone please help me with this problem?
Which is why people say don't flash on a rooted ROM
use "search forum" for unrooting/stock recovery
You must download and use PB99IMG via recovery...
I've allready made this mistake but recovered
Can't see another thread...
Just did the upgrade, haven't really noticed anything yet, although the onscreen keyboard I THINK looks a bit different.

Changelog for OTA 2.29.405.2:
- New radio - 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27 (EddyOS)
- New version of Flash than 2.10.405.2 (EddyOS)
- New Facebook app version 1.4.1 (jobalz)
- New "Related" tab in the Market (arewenotmen)
- New "Group message" button in Messages (milosmeda)
Finally, there are not much changes found yet and I'm wondering why this update was released. I was expecting the new Sense, but maybe this update is just to update the radio, because the new Sence requires it. Just a thought.
So if anybody saw a difference please post, so we can gather all changes in one place.
PS. I did not wanted to use the other post because too much offtopic in it.
PS2. Let's keep the post for changes only.
PS3. If you have root and apply the OTA update you may face problems. Read before doing it.
- New radio - 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
- New(er) version of Flash than 2.10.405.2
That's literally all I've noticed
- problem with battery on 90% when yout put off the charger in the morning is gone now.
new facebook app
Is it (facebook app) newer than the one on the marketplace?
Not in the RUU. Was 1.3.2 and Market is now 1.4.1
I would have thought the only likely thing updated about facebook would be something like the friendstream/facebook linking things...
Did you notice earlier in the world clock tool (after clicking on clock) you can see in which cities you have set is the night (black hour) or day (white)?

I rooted my phone but I kept the original ROM.
It might be a stupid question but still:
Is this OTA going to upgrade HBOOT and unroot my phone?
Yes and it will also screw your phone up leading to a hard reset and losing all your data. You shouldn't apply an OTA to a rooted ROM
Ok, dont want to ask a stupid question but here goes...
I have just updated to this OTA update and now my wifi is not working, its just saying error...
My phone is not rooted, I used the gold card method to flash a htc rom, without the orange bloatware my phone came with...
I have done a couple of OTA updates with no problem, the only issue I had one is that the baseband(i think??) got changed and I had to buy an unlock code to make it recognise my sim !
Any ideas on this?
Okay. My mobile is rooted with official ROM.
Now i pressed update to 2.29.blabla.
Would this brick my desire?
My screen is now like this after auto restart for update:

all the time. (30 min now).
What should i do?
If
You
Are
Rooted
You
CANNOT
Flash
An
OTA
Without
Causing
Problems
How many more times does it need to be said!?!?!?! Seriously??
you also need a gold card for ALL updates if you had to use one to debrand

No, 0.93 isn't new ver of HBOOT so you'll be able to root it again with unrevoked.

It has been said more than enough but no one would read it.
For the second question - did you see the title of this thread?
Edit: This thread is turning into a chat
Can someone monitor the heat before & after the upgrade? If it didn't fix the 2.2 Desire overheating problem, this upgrade feels useless to me.
I see a new setting for VPN. Was this already there or is it new?
2.3 is pushing this week, before accepting the update do I need to unroot my phone? It's on Unrevoked at the moment. Or can I push the update and it will magically unroot my phone? If that happens will unrevoked work again or will it be stuck in no root land till someone finds a root for 2.3?
Ugh! There are probably 20 threads that cover this but since there will probably be 20 more... If you want to stay rooted don't update until a Dev has had a chance to release a rooted stock version. Unrevoked will most likely (99%) not work to get you root.
Your best bet is to just be patient and keep an eye on the development section. Someone will definately release a rooted version, relatively quickly. I think the leaked gingerbread was rooted the same day it got leaked.

Or you could just go to a custom ROM in the meantime... they're so much better than stock anyway

Yes. That's exactly what thread after thread is saying. Search function bro... Really. Frankly, I think doing such a thing would be pretty stupid, but that's your call. And I'll tell you exactly why it would be stupid......
In a few short days you're gonna see a flood of ADB rooted ROMs in the dev section that will unquestionably be better than the bone stock job you'll be totally stuck with. I can tell you from experience that just because its an OTA doesn't mean its better. And if you're that crazy for the bleeding edge of Android, the version of gingerbread in the OTA will not be as current as CM7. I don't personally like gingerbread much. It hasn't cracked up to be the magic elixir people make it out to be, just like so many new devices that everyone SWEARS will be the next digital Mecha.... Incidentally, I'm typing this on the HTC Mecha, which was swooned over for month, then hated on for all the same weaknesses the dInc has.
Friend to friend here... I wouldn't tell anyone to do what you're think of doing.
I'm being steered in the same direction. On 2.2 rooted with unrevoked. Unrooting is undeniably more complicated than rooting IMO and, as stated, the ROMs that are going to be builted off the 2.3 OTA will be better.
I'm just never flashed a ROM before so we'll see how that goes haha
You can unroot, go that route if you'd like. But there's already 2 rooted, ready to go zips of the OTA in the Development forum you could just download and flash.
I guess what I don't understand is, people seem to think that receiving the OTA you get MORE than just flashing the OTA zip that's been rooted/ready for flashing. IT'S THE SAME THING!
In order to unroot, reload the RUU or PB31IMG.zip file to get to stock, if something goes wrong, you've got a nice brick on your hands. You'll lose root when you unroot and accept the OTA, since Unrevoked's exploit is 99% more than likely patched.
You can do all of that work just to accept the OTA, but remember, you'll need to wait for root. Trust me, any day now you'll be seeing the threads of "I accepted the OTA and Unrevoked doesn't work!"...please don't be in that group of people.

Dude, use Doug Piston's ROM Flashing Tutorial, here. It's easy.
After the screen shot showing Wiping Cache, also do:
Mounts and Storage - format /system, format /data, format /boot
Advanced - Wipe Dalvik
Then resume at the Install zip from SD Card screen shot...

SUCCESS! Joel's 2.3.4 release flashed! Wow, that really was easy! I got scared when it hung on backup during the generation of the MD5 sum though, took all of like 10 min..... what does that mean anyway?
ok let me just preface this by saying that i am a complete moron and didn't make a nandroid back up. i am new to this stuf obviously and didnt research enough before i dove in.
also this is referring to the htc on v cdma on virgin mobile.
so i was able to successfully unlock and root the phone. bootloader says unlocked and root checker from the market said i had full root access.
i installed the team win recovery on the phone. the first rom i flashed was the cdma pacman rom from here. i did a full wipe and flashed the rom, and then flashed the kernel from said rom via fastboot on my pc. upon firing it up, it boots and gets through the boot animation and into the OS. but after about 10 seconds my service shuts off (it shows a little R above my reception bars) and the phone reboots. just does this over and over.
so i thought maybe it was the ROM so i tried AOKP jellybean. same issue.
any idea what i did wrong here? thanks in advance.
lol, i had the same problem as you. It happens because of the OTA update or radio version, try using this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018518
I just followed Solution 1 and it worked for me, I was originally on CWM but moved to TWRP cause it's more convenient.
After using the RUU you'll be back to bone-stock and will have to unlock the bootloader and all that fun stuff all over again that's if you use solution 1; however, atleast you'll be able to get the stock-rom backed up again for just-in-case. Skip OTA updates, and then proceed to recover and then start rom flashing/fastbooting kernel and all that fun stuff.

awesome thank you so much. i am slightly confused on which one to download though. i am assuming it is this one here, the only one i see with sprint/vm branding. RUU_PRIMO_C_ICS_40A_Sprint_WWE_VM_1.08.652.6_Radio_1.00... i'll give it a shot
yea that's the one, it's an executable file, just make sure you follow the directions for RUU.

now to try putting a new rom on here again lol....
For future references I suggest not updating the OTA since its known to cause a lot of problems due to radio discrepancies. I'm glad you were able to fix yours though.

Hi, First off I am a complete noob to this and probably should of read which apps wouldn't work before I did this. Also i apologise if this has been posted elsewhere.
Basically I have unlocked my bootloader, then flashed TWRP and then flashed the Android Revolution Rom. I have then gone to install the barclays banking app (Im on o2 in the UK btw) and it says it cannot be used with a rooted device. This app is a lifesaver for me with the amount of money going out so i can keep an eye on it.
I have read into the RUU applications to be used after locking the bootloader but as far as i am aware they are not available yet. So basically my question is is there a way to go to 100% complete stock? so i can use the app.
Thanks in advance. Please remember i am a noob so please be clear if its technical haha :fingers-crossed:

Thanks for your quick reply, I have checked my software number and it is 1.54.401.5, so seeing that someone has put in a flashable zip on their post after yours does that mean i can use that? also im on o2 in the uk does this affect it? and when i run the zip in twrp does that unroot my phone?
Sorry for being so useless in this haha
EDIT: All done now flashed one of the recoveries that you have in your thread and worked a treat cheers.
Hello Mr Hoffs, I have seen your stock rom recovery page, plenty there, unfortunately none for mine.
I was wondering if you had any idea where I could get hold of cid 2___001 and a version main of 1.54.206.10 for my o2 HTC M8 please?
I have an unrooted phone with a constant nag about an OTA security update which I can't apply, this is very frustrating and much more awkward than rooting my S3 or N5 ever was.
Thanks in advance!
Android is definitely, for me, one of the hardest to understand when it comes to updating when rooted. Maybe because I just don't do it often.
Carrier is Rogers, v4.4.3 using the Android Revolution HD. Rom v2.22.401.5. Its rooted and s-off.
I saw that the new lollipop update was out and want to update to it. As far as what to do to get that, and still have AR HD and root, well, I don't know where to begin. I've owned an iphone before and jailbraking that was just easy.
However, with an android phone, I'm not quite sure. Rooting it was a challenge, having to go through many posts and then trying to figure out the update I need for the phone based on the carrier I was with, it sucked.
What I need help with, well, I'm just looking for an easy ensure. Maybe a guide if its not that simple. I'm kind of hoping that just by downloading AR HD and installing it that would be it!? Sooo, is it that simple? What would the steps be to updating my HTC One M8 from 4.4.3 to lollipop, while keeping root, and s-off (what ever s-off is again) and then installing AR HD.
My apologies for asking what to me seams like a lot. I just don't know where to begin.
Thank you,
SpaceGold
Edit:
I recall I had to download something... I don't remember what it was. Something to do with fastboot or updating the phone...
Just want to confirm. Downloading AR HD with 5.0.1 and running it, would that do what I want, or do I need to update the phone first?

Dude.
It's simple.
Download this firmware.
Using a file explorer, rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip (that's a zero, not the letter)
Put it onto the root of your extSD (by root of I mean just on the card, not in a folder)
Get into your bootloader and choose hboot
Follow the prompts (vol up to flash, power button to reboot)
Congratulations! You now have Lollipop firmware.
Be sure to delete that file off of your extSD, otherwise ever time you boot into hboot, it will try to update again.
Now you can flash all the new cool Lolly ROMs.
Edit:
Alright, got it working through bootloader... It did the update but no change. Thank you for your help.
Lol, that does sound easy. Sooo, this would be for all carriers including rogers? And I get to keep root and s-off? And just to add to my ignorance... Bootloader? Thats TWRP?
Why the name 0P6BIMG? I'll name it that, I'm just curious.
Edit:
How do you know what you need to download, there are so many things on this website, how do you know what update is for what... Super confusing
As an example, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51536075#post51536075
I have no idea what to make of all these, they seem like they are for the order updates...

There won't be a change that you will notice. The firmware makes it so that your phone can run a Lollipop based ROM.
