Thanks to this forum, I now have my new (hboot 2.02) HTC EVO rooted, running with a kernel I self compiled, and it just successfully loaded the kernel modules I developed.
All of this with 0 knowledge of Android a few days ago... (Years of Linux kernel dev exp helped though)
Besides this post I will be saying thanks by donating to people who made helpful posts, guides, etc later this week once my Paypal account is sorted.
Thanks again!
Welcome to forums,
Donating to Developers, Chefs and to XDA is the best way to say thanks

Hi guys,
I am a new desire user, coming from the HTC Hero so I'm quite familiar with Android, HTC, rooting and all other stuff.
On the Hero I was running villainROM 12.0 (as far as I remember, that was the last ROM I tested), so now I'm looking for a food, stable ROM to run on my Desire.
Any advice ?
Before you tell me to search the forum: I already did and all my searches didn't come with a clear answer so a little advice would be appreciated.
Thanks a lot
Geeum
If you read the ROM info it very clearly states if it's a stable ROM or not.
Basically any rom that's not a BETA or RC is stable. Even the betas and RCs are often stable.
And this is a development forum. Not questions & answers.
Also: Read the "Desire Index". It's sticked - it's a good read.
Welcome to the Desire community! ;-)
You could use the SuperVillain HD if you want something familiar(?):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801173
If you need something with Sense, I would go for the most popular ROM ever created for Desire(LeeDroid):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768703
Or the new iPhone-alike MIUI is very popular as well!
Lots of options really!
Thanks hallydamaster,
that's exactly the type of info I was looking for. I'll try Leedroid at first and will look closely into MIUI.

How does this belong to the developer section?
If you have been to Android community and xda, you should know better than posting something that irrelevant to the DEVELOPMENT section.
There is General section and there is F&A.

agreed (actually it's Q&A)
Well wrong forum advice aside.
For NonSense - CyanogenMod, OpenDesire (I havent tried Defrost)
For iphone look alike - MIUI, i love how it is fast but iphonish makes me uncomfortable.
For Sense - I used to use NexTSense(now changed name to AuraXtSense), LeeDroid(currently using)

Leedroid gets my vote too. Welcome from me too.
Guys & Gals,
We really should start focussing on android on NAND for us blackstone users.
I will be glad to help and I will be updating this post and the below on my progress.
The Rhodium have now fixed their panel issues they were experiencing on nand thanks to ACL.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870081
(BLACKSTONE USERS DO NOT FLASH ANY FILES FROM THE ABOVE LINK - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED)
As I have said beforehand we will need to trace the NAND memory access points via haret to input the correct values into the tinboot source before compiling, once that has been done we can create a nbh with a kernel and all other relevant files to initialise tinboot. I will have a crack at that so that we at least get tinboot loaded but I may need some help from willing developers if any.
Once we have tinboot sucessfully initialised we will then move onto the more daunting task's of booting the userland and initialising hardware as at the moment winmo is doing that for us.
Welcoming any developers wishing to help.
Best Regards,
ST1Cl<^^aN

good idea man
but sorry i didn't have any knowledge a bout that
all what i can say is goooo ahead man
I think that's a great ideea but first we need the nand map which is hard and tricky to obtain . After that, it will be a piece of cake .
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Go go go
Devs, please do this. Sorry to say I dont have any usefullness in the project. Maybe as a tester
Well, for now there's no Blackstone specific development (at least @ #htc-linux) because there are no devs with our phone. Camro and OliWe went AWOL and even people with much less skill are not active at the moment.
Anyway if we'll find just one person interested in doing this - I'm happy to help (testing/building/research/tracing).
maybe we could ask other devs to help us
like neopeek???..............

I'm sure they will help us, but we REALLY need someone with Blackstone & coding skills to do NAND boot. Other devs are busy fixing bugs in "common" kernel or their specific devices.
BTW. Neopeek won't help because he builds Android system and we need a Linux kernel guys.
If I can get hold of DZO things can progress further hopefully. I will keep you all updated.

maybe
as we are not developers
and neopeek webiste has a developer forum which we can see at the moment
but he might be working on it with other developers
i hope
of course you could always ask neopeek . Maybe some other guys over at neopeek can help you.
NAND for our blackstones would be awesome . I'd love to test it when it's done. Will be keeping an eye on this thread for sure.

me too
yes we all would love that but we need a lot of kernel level development, porting, hacking and testing before we could move to NAND.
yh but since other android build have not been updating yet
maybe of the holidays or gingerbeard
looks like the updates might come next year (january i hope)
if some one get nand to work i will donate him really if the first person with full functions work with nand ill donate the person 20 usd!
Would be great if Magldr or LK worked with our Blackstones. I don't know how much work it would be since I'm not a hardcore programmer. Right now a lot of focus is on HD2 and Rhodiums though. Hope devs are not forgetting Blackstone.

So I managed to successfully root my HTC 530 but I'm not exactly sure with what software....don't ask
Anyway here is some info about it hopefully someone has some answers.
PS I would love some links to some ROMS y'all dig.

Ok,
Follow the instructions and download TWRP from HERE which is a more organized thread for the TWRP by Captain Throwback(awesome guy). Once TWRP is installed you can flash SuperSU and you'll have root.. That easy buddy.
There are no custom ROMs for the Desire 530 yet as I happen to be the only one developing one. Search/Browse around the Desire 530 forums here at XDA and you'll find all this information for yourself.
Also, if you read the OP for my SlimDesire thread you'll find a link to the SlimDesire Development Group on Google Hangouts which currently has over 15 members.
