Kensington Quick Release Iphone car mount - Captivate Accessories

I was searching for a car mount for my Captivate since I was using one on my HTC Fuze in the past. Some looking around I ran across these videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyJR_t_VIlI and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZ25xM9rNkQ&feature=related
Being that the EVO isn't much different in size than the Captivate I figure it should fit fine, the only question was whether it fit with a TPU case on as well. I later found a picture of an EVO with a case so I figure I was good to go. You can find the product site here:
http://us.kensington.com/html/17813.html
You can get it for under $25 on Amazon.com, I missed out on a deal where I could've got it for $5 after mail in rebate.
Here are all of the components. As mentioned in the videos, it comes with a A/C vent mount(on the left), the window suction mount(in the middle) and the mount the phone sits in itself.

The mount has spring loaded grips with soft grip material lining each so it shouldn't damage unprotected phone as well as providing grip to keep it from falling out. Being that they are spring loaded, I spread them apart and they have a bit of room for play for larger phones, as mentioned my main concern was whether or not it will fit with a TPU or silicone skinned case.

Even though there are some cheaper mounts on ebay, I decided to go with this because the two I have experience with previously had flaws that don't make themselves known immediately but over time will show themselves. The main one being that the plastic begins to crack where the bending part is inserted. On my Fuze mount it was cracking when I first got it but it didn't come apart till later when I glued it back together.

ProClip - custom but still disappointing vehicle mount...

Hi - just got an email from Proclip announcing their Glacier vehicle mount options (I'd emailed them previously asking if anything was coming). If you haven't seen them before, they use a 2 stage system, with custom mounts for vehicles paired with custom holders for phones. On the plus side, this means that you get a proper mount that (at least as far as my old mount for my HTC Kaiser) fits well. On the down side they are pricey.
My biggest disappointment with this one - like the T-Mobile desk dock, they've gone for USB rather than the pins for charging. Who knows - maybe they've got the tolerances right and these ones won't scratch phones, but I'm not sure I'm willing to for out $59-$79 (I already own the vehicle mount for my car) to find out. I might go for the non-powered mount which will be listed soon according to their email. It should be at least $25 cheaper going on their usual pricing schemes. Anyway, I thought I'd pass this on.

Well, that's disappointing. But so far, every accessory for this phone has been...
Thanks for the post.
Updated with the power-less mount for $35

Only thing i don't like about these is taking my phone out of it's case to use it. I have the hard plastic one with the kickstand from tmobile and love the case and the extra grip on the sides. I tried one of those new cases with the sticky back and i guess my phone was too heavy for it with the case, and it was crap, lol. Gonna have to keep looking for the perfect one.

samsung Inffuse Epic touch Vehicle Doc OEM

a warning to you folks. the OEM vehicle dock "DOES NOT" properly fit the Sprint Epic touch.
the 4 corners of the cradle DO NOT engage the phone at all. the phone simple "squeezes" between them. without even engaging the suction cup just sitting it on a desk I was able to disengage the phone with 2 fingers. IE the first bump you hit the phone is coming out.
the only thing holding it in is the USB Socket which is precisely what you do NOT want (force acting on that socket)
Also the usb socket will not engage the phone (it seems the sprint SII is a hair "thicker" than the infuse?) you have to PUSH UP from the backside of the dock to "lift" the dock connector just enough to allow it to engage the phones usb socket.
this screams bad news to me.
it truly is a gorgeous dock. I WANT it badly but alas I have to send it back I won't trust my very expensive phone to it.
Here is a video showing the issues. I REALLY hope they make a proper dock for this phone it needs one badly. I HAD those generic docks so much they are flat out ugly.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ct4TuPJayHQ
the seller on ebay was very cool no problem letting me send it back for a full refund. (doing that tomorrow)
I really wish I could keep it. while I would LOSE the "dock" functionality the cradle could VERY easily be modified to securely hold the phone.
but this dock is too expensive to trash its internals to do this at $29.
$10 dock I would hack it up it in a heartbeat.
any found a "proper" designed for epic touch car cradle yet? prefer a uni 4 point connector style (I have a mount right on my steering wheel)
The OEM car dock odds what you need. It works perfect. Stop wasting time with stuff made for a different phone.
Dicho por el E4GT de Latinmaxima con Tapatalk.
well it was advertised as FOR the epic touch 4g. clearly its not
gonna stalk an AT&T store tomorrow and see if I get luck for a cheap one to mod.
save up enough to buy the official epic touch one.
that's not the infuse vehicle dock that ATT was selling. i bought one direct from ATT when it was on sale for $18.00, and it is nearly identical to the genuine E4GT dock. ATT seems to have gotten smart and jacked the price up - you can't even find the infuse dock on their site, but now you can find an overpriced galaxy SII dock. the infuse is available on amazon, but it's more expensive than the genuine dock.
this is what it looks like:

and this is the genuine dock:

so you're better off just buying the real thing.
i've been using mine for a month now, about three hours of daily driving, it's never popped out or come loose.

Yea, I got the same dock from at&t and it looks different from the OP's. I'm not sure if he modded it to make it longer but if that's the way it came then it definitely isn't the one that was offered for under $20 from the at&t deal.
I use mine on trips consisting of more than 30+ minutes and it has never fallen out of place. Not to mention my car has a stiffer suspension with coilovers so it's more susceptible to falling out.
well I drive a 94 Geo metro Xfi.
it don't get much more rough than that hehe
but its worth it for the 60mpg
Been using an infuse dock for about 2 months now and my phone fits fine. Yes there are gaps in the corners because the e4gt has more rounded corners than the infuse but it is secure. Btw the seller you bought it from must have swap the base because the oem comes with a fixed arm not a gooseneck. Goosenecks shake more while fixed arms don't.

nono the goosneck is mine that is not what came with it
I have no idea if this is the AT&T dock or not I got it from ebay as an infuse oem dock advertised as comp with epic touch 4g. its not.
just giving people heads up if they find the same thing
Clean your desk.
OP, I think you got something different than the ATT Infuse Dock.
The one I have from ATT fits the phone nicely, and while it's not perfect, I have not had the phone pop out that easily.
Glad the person on eBay is letting you return it.
I will sure find out tomorrow.
My local AT&T has one and its $17 he is holding it for me.
at $17 I am willing to hack it up a bit. I will do a side by side before sending the one I got on ebay back.
the one I got flat out does not fit. its a friction fit only (watch the video remember that goosneck is mine did not come with the dock)
ie nothing actually "holds" the phone save the usb jack which is exactly what you don't want. ONE slip one accident and your in trouble
I have no problems with my dock

What accessories have you found so far?

As we all know the SGS3 is the same across the board physically and I set out to get some accessories day 1.
I'm with T-Mobile and they had some screen protectors the day I bought it and nothing else.
I then went to VZW and they only had some gloss purple cases and the multimedia dock. Got the multimedia dock.
I wanted a case with a kickstand so I then set off for AT&T and got the casemate (white/grey) with kickstand - fits pretty good. AT&T also had this screen protector that came in pebble blue and white - and its supposed to be bubble free and last the life of the phone (i-zig or something). Looked pretty slick on the Galaxy Note.
I haven't been to Sprint yet but plan to stop there soon.
So what have you found and bought?
Why are u buying accessories at the phone retail store?
Whatever u found at ATT retail store, you can found on amazon for half the price.
Just because, the fact that I can walk out and just get it when I want it makes it happen for some people.
Update!
So I was pleasently surprised when my phone with the Casemate case (from AT&T) on would fit into the multimedia dock from VZW. I was apprehensive at first due to my experiences with my HTC Sensation having a case on not being able to fit into HTC docks for the Thunderbolt.
No such issue (so far) for the SGS3.
A side note - I am guessing it was done on purpose but the SGS3 is heavily borrowing from HTC IMO with the lockscreen launch apps and the dock mode that kicks in automatically when you dock your device.
It just dawned on me to give the SGS2 a twirl on the mmdock... be back after charging.
Success! The Multi-Media Dock works for the SGS2. When docked it will present multiple options if available. For me it was "Clock" and "TuneIn Radio Pro".
"Clock" is "dock mode" Once plugged into the USB port audio will come out the backside through the "line-in" to whatever stereo/speakers are plugged in. This also means if you have a home theater you can plug it into that for the SGS2/3 and I'm even going to assume the Note.
The one down side to the SGS2 is that it WILL NOT fit with BodyGlove kickstand case snapped on. Suckage...
What I would like to see next is a true Multi-Media Dock that has a HDMI port built in so you can plug it into your TV all while being docked.

Pro clips for HTC ONE

So I have a pro clip (http://www.proclipusa.com/) and have been using it for a few years now (since my iPhone 3GS) and every time I swap out the Holder for my new phone (obviously).
I really like their style because it's pretty minimalist and doesn't involve suction cups. HOWEVER, the latest one I have been using for my iphone 4s (with bumper) was less than stellar (This: http://www.proclipusa.com/?sectionp...r=false&have_mount=true&p_pageid=16488&dtype= )
They started using a 'one size fits all' type of product where you basically size your devise and screw in the adjustable sides. The sides ALWAYS slip and I have to re-tighten them. It's really a pain.
It also appears that they don't have support YET for the HTC One (another bummer).
I want to keep Vehicle mount and I am wondering if there is a way to hybridize the custom vehicle mount with something like this: http://www.amazon.com/GreatShield-Windshield-Dashboard-Universal-Holster/dp/B0090SB1CE/
Again, trying to stay away from the window suction cups which seems nearly unavoidable.
Anyone find a good solution to the proclips problem? Really unfortunate that they chose to skimp on quality and haven't updated for the ONE...
I've been checking the proclip website for an HTC One mount as well. As you said, no such luck so far.
One possible (but not very elegant) solution involves the HTC One official car dock (D160 or whatever the model number is). HTC dock uses a suction cup and comes with a flat plastic disc with a sticky pad on one side. The normal use for that disc is to stick it on your dashboard to create the flat and glossy surface ideal for the suction cup at the bottom of the actual dock. It should be possible to stick this disc to the proclip vehicle mount and suction-mount the official HTC car dock on top of it.
As I said, not very elegant, but it is one way to convert your proclip vehicle mount to a suction mount point. And you can probably go back to a proclip device docks by removing the sticky disk in the future.

Hmm, that may be something to look into. At least for the time being until ProClip comes out with something...
Wonder how long it takes for them to announce a new device mount...

Personally I haven't been too impressed with ProClip in the last few years. The holder they had for the Galaxy S3 was really expensive. Too expensive for what it was...
I'm happy that we have an official car dock from HTC.
The ProClip holders for the HTC One are in production. Within 1-2 weeks they will have them in stock. Just send them an email to get on the notification list. [email protected]
Attached is an image of their HTC One holder with a USB/Car charger. The other standard ones they will have as well.
Proclip sells a suction cup disc: http://www.proclipusa.com/brodit-de.../suction-cup-dashboard-disc-710643-14367.aspx
I'm not sure if it just uses two-sided tape to attach or if there are screw holes so you can attach it properly. Unfortunately the link for the install instructions is broken so I can't really tell.
EDIT: Just sent an email to Proclip to see if it uses adhesive or a screw.
EDIT 2: Got a response, there is adhesive on the back so it's no better than any other disc out there.

S4 Active car/ bike/ Motorcycle holder (dedicated)

Hi all,
just e tip: a dedicated carholder for this phone is ahrd to find and a little expensive if i'm honest.
if you search for a dedicated carholder form LG G2 on Ebay or such, this will do just aswell. mind you, with a little creative puzzling.
the size between these phones is comparable....not EXACTLY the same.
i've taken a light and heated the corners and the 'clipping and unclipping thingy' without the phone in it one by one.
After heating, fitted the phone in and pressen on the each corner-part and pushed the holder around it.
It fits pretty good and will not snap out easliy.
be careful after applying a heat source......ths plastic can be VERY HOT. insert phone and press it onto a surface.
no promises on the result ofocurse.....just thought i'd share it........
I just wanted to add that I went a different direction with this, and it works great.
I bought a http://www.amazon.com/SUPCASE-Samsung-Galaxy-Active-Unicorn/dp/B00DY2SEFE
Then I bought the quadlock mounts
The adapter for the phone
http://www.quadlockcase.com/products/universal-adapter
then bought the bike mount
http://www.quadlockcase.com/products/quad-lock-bar-mount-pro
and car mount
http://www.quadlockcase.com/products/quad-lock-car-mount
I attached the universal adapter to the back of my phone (easy easy compared to the otterbox stuff out there, since unicorn beatle case is uniformly flat already, it is why i chose it)
Now i attach it to my bike/car when I need to, and it doesnt make it too much bulkier. I actually have 2 cases, one with and one without the adapter, and I switch them out if I am going to go biking, or on a long trip where I might use the GPS.
there are really stable BikeMounts from Upmove:
