I believe that unlike some other phones our phone can only display the orange and green color. I have tried changing them before.
Isn't there another led on there for 4g notification or something?

I don't know if I have seen HTCs with multi colored LEDs, really a RIM thing I think. Been an HTC guy for a while and other than orange, red, and green LEDs, I think that's it. There only thing this HTC doesn't do that others did is flash the LED for notification while charging. LED is always solid on the charger.

Search wimax notifier, uses the 2nd top led for message notifications, has a few diff. patterns/speeds/colors to choose from, I have been using it for a couple months and I love it!

New notification light with Gingerbread?

Okay, I got my evo on June 4th launch day and I am someone who has only seen one notification light on the top left, which was either green for notifications/completley charged, or orange for low battery. I've used different roms, 2.1, 2.2 cyanogen, 2.2 sense, and I have only seen that one notification light.
I decided to install a Cyanogen nightly based off 2.3.2. I now see a different shade of green notification light on the top right. I dropped my phone and started staring because I didn't think the evo had two notification lights!!
My questions to all...
Was it possible to have this light on the top right ever in the past?
What other colors besides the "different shade of green" are there?
Why is this notification light only starting to show now... and not in the past 6 to 7 months on my phone? (besides the fact I'm trying Gingerbread)
And lastly I apologize if this has been brought up before... Like I said, I've had my evo since launch day and I'm almost stunned that I've never seen this "feature" light before.
It is a wimax led and it has been a feature of cm for a while. You can go into cm settings and change when it notifies you and select a green or orange color.

Never noticed it. Thanks! Weird HTC would want to use it for Wimax. Possibly when a Wimax signal was is in range they were going to set it to flash, but they've removed the "always scanning" feature in the new 3.70 update so who knows now. Maybe they'll find use for it in the next major update =)

How many LED notification colors are there when using Light Flow?

For those with the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, how many different color notifications are there for the LED when you use Light Flow?
17 colours to choose from on mine, it seems.

But will the phone display all those 17 or only say 4?
The Nexus has a RGB LED so any of the 17 colors can be mixed without a problem.
Why don't you try it by yourself? Lazy?
Despite that I have 19 colors to choose from on my GSM Nexus with Light Flow (paid).
Just a quick warning from my experience with Light Flow lite.
I installed the free version and it worked fine - I think I used 10 different colors and most of the time the worked well (sometimes the light would stay on when the notification was cleared).
However, I was having battery life issues so I uninstalled the application.
This actually GREATLY improved my battery life - but now my led is broken. It will only flash white, and it doesn't work for all events that it did before I used LFL. I've done a factory reset and a battery pull and the led will not go back to green.
I've emailed the developer and hope I'll get some help. It's a little hard for me to understand how this could happen and I hope I can fix it.
Just a word of caution to anyone considering using this app.

I don't think mine has ever flashed green? The stock notification for mail + sms is white, and tweetdeck is yellow... not seen anything else?
I too uninstalled Liteflow, because I found it frequently flashed forever until I rebooted when there were no notifications.
On the Nexus one, CM7 had a slider control for colors. You could create hundreds of different shades.
I think the Galaxy Nexus is the same. At this point we're only limited by software. RootzBoat rom had a LED color control built right into the general settings menu, but only had a few color selections. I used blue and I liked it alot. I don't think it allowed you to change it PER APP, but just the general color for all. Still cool to mess with again.
3rd party programs require to be run in the background as an app or service, but require constant monitoring. Kernel level control is best, but we'll have to wait for CM9 for that.

Ok then - maybe I've lost my mind! I thought I remembered it being green originally but it's entirely possible you're correct. Would make much more sense than to think that an app could 'break' the led functionality.
+1 for jmbillings.
Natively the LED is only flashing only whitish and as to be readable in a couple of threads not even that is working properly at all times.
Never had any issue with Light Flow except a not stopping notification ones a week. Bought it for Whatsapp and I'm still happy. No battery drain at all at no time.
you guys must be getting dozens of notifications in a day.
i've never even seen lightflow pop up under my battery statistics.
I use light flow on my Nexus and it works great!
Same here lightflow works great on my Nexus. And every single color I tried works. If some people are having trouble with the light still flashing even after swiping the notification away, try going into the app itself. It apparently will keep flashing until I actually check the notification out in the app.
Light flow didn't work for me, it would either flash constantly in test mode or do nothing. My LED does flash green for chompSMS but white for everything else.
light flow works 100% for me. Notifications always work and no notification his become 'stuck' when I clear it...

Well maybe it's a native problem that I'm having. It will not notify me now of a missed call or an email. The only time I'm seeing the led blink is when I get a text message.
The developer actually took the time to reply to me and make some recommendations to improve battery life.
I'll give it another try, still having intermittent battery issues but may be more related to location polling than this app.
Thanks again to the folks here who take the time to help out.

Yes, I do.
I don't see it under the native battery stats - it did show up fairly high on the list when I was using battery monitor widget.
Honestly, trying to figure out my battery issues has me suspicious of every app I install...
Works perfectly on my Verizon Nexus as well. The only hiccup is Handcent. If I dismiss the popup window on Handcent, the LED will continue to flash, until I actually go into Handcent and view the message,
I was using it to alert me if bluetooth was on, and that notification would tend to persist after I had turned bluetooth off.
For those having issues clearing the LED notifications, keep in mind just clearing the notification from the drop down won't turn off the LED. It will stay on until the notification is further acknowledged (i.e. the SMS message is 'read' under messages...or email etc).
Also, something I've found helpful is the lightflow debugger widget that comes installed with the app. From there you can clear all notifications as well as see what the last notification was
Technically the phone works well with all 17 colors - but as a male i must say that there are only approx. 8 colors existing in the world...
I think they need to combine the app (LightFlow) with the color selector from AOKP ROM. Its basically the MS Windows/Photoshop color chooser we're all used to: a circle with a slider to the right. The combination of those allows you to choose ANY color in the spectrum. And the LED will display it. (Blood red is my favorite....not as "light up your room" as the default cyan/white)
I did catch the LED lighting up yellow when I had a text that didnt get delivered....not sure if thats the SMS app Im using (GoSMS) or the kernel/ROM but something made it flash different color at different frequency.
Id love LightFlow just for all the apps it responds to....especially Words with Friends.

[REQ] Speed up notification LED

Hello, as per the title, anyone know of or can whip something up that would speed up the notification flash of the LED?
I find that you often have to spend a good few seconds looking at the device to see if the light is flashing ...admittedly it doesn't sound a lot but its pretty easy to miss a flash.
I'd prefer to see at a glance if I have a message... maybe a flash every couple of seconds or something.
Surely I can't be alone in thinking the flashes are too far apart at the moment?
Cheers

I just use Go SMS Pro which has an option to use LED Notifications with settings and have it set to flash at very fast and white which looks great
Check around here few threads already about LED notification. The best one i found is LIghtflow, u can customize the rate of flash even always on option.
I use Light Flow app it lets you change the colour and the speed of flash of notification LED

To bad lightflow makes the phone talk like crazy >.<
I hade to uninstall it.
The light version worked but when i bought it and after a reboot the stupid phone talked the crap out of me and made me uninstall it with no way to get a refund due to the time that hade passed before i rebboted the phone in order to flash new CWM.
I say go with the go sms pro and hoe the phone keeps talkback away.
Perhaps you can try this app to select LED notification color or its flashing frequency

[Q] Notification light...blinks ONCE?!

Um...is the notification light supposed to blink only once? Cuz mine does and I find that pretty stupid since I'm not going to be staring at my phone 24/7. Basically defeats the purpose of having a notification light. I see an online review where the power button is supposed to light up (and again mine doesn't) as notification. Is that true? The manual doesn't say specifically... If so, I'll need to get mine fixed. Thanks.
At&t's version the power button lights up. Sprint's version- its the notification light by the top speaker, and it blinks green once every 30 seconds.
Definitely a flaw with this phone. Hopefully eventually we'll be able to fix that with a custom ROM
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Oic ....I didn't test it longer before to see that it blinks every 30s. But yeah that's a huge flaw and I can't believe I haven't read that in reviews. I actually called LG tech to inquire and the rep didn't really know what she was talking about because she 1) said all smartphones work like that (I corrected her on the AT&T version; she obviously did not know her own products) and 2) lamented that she has to turn on her phone also for notifications too (frankly I don't care). Her reponses were a bit amusing lol. I asked if there is a fix coming soon and she said "nope". And in the beginning, I asked if the notification supposed to blink only once and she said yes (no..it's every 30s).
I'm going to be rooting my phone (for the first time!) and hopefully there'll be a custom ROM that'll solve this.
There's a few apps in the play store that are supposed to be able to modify it. I only tinkered with two and had no luck. But you could look there and if one works report back here.

I have been dealing with the same issue. I want my light to blink every few seconds. I do not want to stare at my phone for 30 seconds just to know if i got a notification. I am running Lifeless rom and tried Lightflow. It works with camera LED but does not work with the light by the speaker.

On the bright side, at least you guys (most likely) can get all sorts of fancy colors on your LED once it is sorted out.
From what I hear the AT&T model is stuck with red in B.F.E.
I just tried the light flow app and u can control the led blink rates. Bad thing is u can only use red and green led.
update: light flow just started FCing like crazy. uninstall

Blink rate control doesn't seem to be effective on my device, camera led will blink tho

hmmmm well. ok look this is how i fixed mine. and its working great:
first i open my phone. its easy i did it by myself cause i dint find any video on youtube.
when you open your phone there is a black plastic just back the notification led. that black plastic was making to much presure on the led circuit causing it to be crazy and not 100% working at all. so i figure that the piece of plastic have some kind of soft plastic that i took off and that was the problem.
maybe later i will post a video on how to open the phone xperia zl.
