[Q] Notification light cant be changed?

ive noticed that no matter wat i do, i cant change the notification light with different apps.
im using handcent, and i check different colors and its still effin green! samething while charging, orange when chraging, green when done,
does someone actually know how to change it?
running CM nightly build 185 with DarkFroyo.

I believe that unlike some other phones our phone can only display the orange and green color. I have tried changing them before.
Isn't there another led on there for 4g notification or something?

I don't know if I have seen HTCs with multi colored LEDs, really a RIM thing I think. Been an HTC guy for a while and other than orange, red, and green LEDs, I think that's it. There only thing this HTC doesn't do that others did is flash the LED for notification while charging. LED is always solid on the charger.

Search wimax notifier, uses the 2nd top led for message notifications, has a few diff. patterns/speeds/colors to choose from, I have been using it for a couple months and I love it!

That's all mine is doing as well... Was wondering if there was a way to make it keep blinking like when it's charging.

Same here...and my screen keeps unlocking when I get a text in.my pocket and then my leg dials someone....called LG a couple days ago and the lady told me to.remove the battery...I.just hung up on her.

Your guess is probably better than mine. All I know is that when I get a TM or email, the LED lights red and stays lit. I guess that it may be a parameter setting in the device. You might look in Settings>Display>Notifications Flash, to see what the settings are.

Mine flashes every 20 seconds or so for about a minute then stops completely...seems like I remember it staying on permanently the day I bought it. I'm going to try a factory reset. Also wonder if that "mystery update" screwed it up.

Factory reset didn't solve the problem. Returning mine to att for another one..

Having the LED stay on constantly would create an unnecessary drain on the battery.

Not really, my galaxy s3 was constantly on and no problem on battery, I'm pretty sure it is suppose to stay on.

On my gs the light stayed on only when certain notifications like facebook but on emails and text it would blink. But on this is seems to only blink for a little while then stops. I'm sure that can be fixed with an update. Its a new phone give them time. For me its not a big deal. My phones in my pocket all day anyway.

Did another phone yield any luck on the led issue? A fixed rate of 1 blink per 30 secs is unacceptable.... Every app out there hasn't been able to make it blink more frequently. Or even keep it solidly on for that matter.

I've only ever had HTC phones so I guess I'm spoiled? I love the every 5 seconds because you can essentially put your phone on silent (no vibrate) and see when you get messages... good while you're at work and don't want your desk vibrating constantly!

my LG-E971 blinks for gmail, but doesnt for handcent, probably does for messaging hmmm..

As far i noticed, it blinks every 5 seconds for any event, even the charging. Thats why it freaks me out.

I got the LED to blink alot.
Rooted with esFileExplorer
Open /system/etc/system.xml
Change notification_light_pulse from 0 to 1.
Save.

I want it to be known that this doesn't change the notification blink, only the charging blink, as gutterwall mentions in a similar post on he Sprint forum

LED not blinking for notifications

I cannot for the life of me get the led to blink for sms or email notifications. It'll only turn on for power - red while charging, Green when fully charged. And it'll never be on at all while the screen is on.
Anyone have any luck?

The only setting I've found is under Display | Notification Flash
Mine works, although it only blinks green once every 30 seconds, which is way too long.

Oh wow, all this time I thought it only blinked once, they need to make it at least every 10 seconds or so.

Holy crap you're right! 30 secs!
Anyone have any idea if this is a setting that could be changed, maybe with root? I haven't rooted yet but it'd be worth it to change this.

Try the app lightflow. Warning though, it takes time to learn how to use. I gave up after the first minute lol.

Lol. I've installed and uninstalled this app about 3 times with desperate hope, but to no avail. It does detect the hardware led. But the app cautions that it doesn't work well with LG phones and I can confirm... No amount of fiddling and testing was successful - not even to keep the light solidly on. Suggests to me this might be a setting you must have root for...

Agreed. I do like the way they implemented the shared charge/notification led though. Whenever it's plugged in, which for me is most of the time, and the red charging light isn't on, I know I have a notification of some kind, which is a far better deal than we had with the EVO 3D. I wish they had included a discrete light though.
The AT&T version has the LED indicator as an integral part of the power button, which is going to make case design a little tricky.

Hello, after a long time have managed to solve it? or there is something to light up the notifications with the capacitive Buttons ? thanks

[Q] Notification light...blinks ONCE?!

Um...is the notification light supposed to blink only once? Cuz mine does and I find that pretty stupid since I'm not going to be staring at my phone 24/7. Basically defeats the purpose of having a notification light. I see an online review where the power button is supposed to light up (and again mine doesn't) as notification. Is that true? The manual doesn't say specifically... If so, I'll need to get mine fixed. Thanks.

At&t's version the power button lights up. Sprint's version- its the notification light by the top speaker, and it blinks green once every 30 seconds.
Definitely a flaw with this phone. Hopefully eventually we'll be able to fix that with a custom ROM

Oic ....I didn't test it longer before to see that it blinks every 30s. But yeah that's a huge flaw and I can't believe I haven't read that in reviews. I actually called LG tech to inquire and the rep didn't really know what she was talking about because she 1) said all smartphones work like that (I corrected her on the AT&T version; she obviously did not know her own products) and 2) lamented that she has to turn on her phone also for notifications too (frankly I don't care). Her reponses were a bit amusing lol. I asked if there is a fix coming soon and she said "nope". And in the beginning, I asked if the notification supposed to blink only once and she said yes (no..it's every 30s).
I'm going to be rooting my phone (for the first time!) and hopefully there'll be a custom ROM that'll solve this.

There's a few apps in the play store that are supposed to be able to modify it. I only tinkered with two and had no luck. But you could look there and if one works report back here.

I have been dealing with the same issue. I want my light to blink every few seconds. I do not want to stare at my phone for 30 seconds just to know if i got a notification. I am running Lifeless rom and tried Lightflow. It works with camera LED but does not work with the light by the speaker.

On the bright side, at least you guys (most likely) can get all sorts of fancy colors on your LED once it is sorted out.
From what I hear the AT&T model is stuck with red in B.F.E. :laugh:

I just tried the light flow app and u can control the led blink rates. Bad thing is u can only use red and green led.
update: light flow just started FCing like crazy. uninstall

Screen flickering issue! (All Galaxy S4's)

If you lower the screen brightness all the way down and open the stock internet to Google, and tap the search bar to pop the keyboard up, you'll see a slight flicker. So far on every display s4 at the store has the same problem. Anyone have an idea if this is software or hardware related?

Same here. Tested and experienced no flickering issue.

Are you talking about the smearing issue when the phone is dim all the way and you have white text on black background. Text turns hazy purple when u scroll. If so this is a known issue that's been reported here already.

I've noticed flickering on super white backgrounds. It's hard to see and it's got to be the right lighting and high brightness. IMO if you need to go through a process to see a slight flicker, blobs, etc., it's not really a concern. I'm assuming it's software related.. Same with the text blur.

I did notice some change in the brightness when the keyboard shows up. But not flickering.

Well yeah thats what I mean't by flicker lol. I honestly think the oled screen samsung put in the s4 is a little faulty and they needed to calibrate it better before shipping.

Hi,
Im facing same issue ,im from bangalore india, i observed this prob on day one, many of ppl didnt even notice this until i made them show the issue.
I even went to service centre and the service centre guy showed me 4 other phones with same problem, so he tld the manufacturing only is like this v cant help, so i had to return n adjust with the problem,
On top phone heats up for little usage of 3g

just tried this don't happen in my phone.

mine does it. also, turning off auto tone doesnt help. with me at least

mine does it... unchecking the auto adjust doesnt help.

Most users wont notice it. Hell, I myself didn't notice it until someone pointed it out on their device and I tested and saw it. OCD kicked in.

Go in any app with the keyboard popped up and go into the Sun directly hitting the screen and you will see your screen flickering endlessly no matter what app your in
