[Q] Connect WP7 to Car Stereo via USB? - Windows Phone 7 General

I would like to purchase a new cd head unit for my car and use my Zune Pass on my WP7 device to play all my music via USB.
Why USB and not 3.5mm aux cable?
1 usb cable vs 1 usb cable + 1 aux cable
I would like to be able to charge my WP7 device and control volume/play/pause/etc from the car CD head unit rather than my WP7 device
1. Has anyone tried this or have another method to get this to work?
2. How is the quality of streaming music over bluetooth?
After searching the forums I found this post related to the galaxy s:

thanks

you cannot use usb and streaming music on any platform.
When you use a usb connector, then you are using your phone as usb storage device, that is why you control music from the head unit. This is not possible currently on wp7 since you cannot use your phone connected to a computer without zune installed.
The post you linked was for BT audio out, which works the same as the 3.5 jack, not usb.

any comments on the quality of BT audio out?

I use the the 3.5 jack.
I thought about BT audio but so many people have had trouble with winmo and Bt that I didn't want to spend 150.00 for the module to find out it didn't work.

3.5 - RCA cable....
Thats the best way to do it... Most car head units have an RCA AUX IN on the back.
Attach the the 3.5 - RCA cable to the head unit via the RCA and plug in a 3.5 - 3.5 cable to the phone.
Thats what I'm doing now....
It's in fact the BEST way to get the most out of the audio decoder as it goes from the phone - amp - speakers/sub, so the phone can be on low imput *best way* and the amp does all the work making it sound wonderful.
here is a pic of the one cable solution...

or the smaller version i have that i just plug in the extra cable from the glove box when i need it as the end just pops out from under the head unit with no long cables to hide.

bluetooth
bluetooth stereo is the best way to go i've been using it since windows mobile. sound quality is very good i don't notice the difference with aux cable but i have one in my car for my zune. with bluetooth you can control simple actions like you would on your phone like change tracks and volume and mine can also make calls and it shows you the name of the person calling you in the stereo lcd

PDA --> Car speakers?

Is that possible to send music to my car audio speakers through an HTC TYTN?
Thanks.
Yes, I use a 1 to 3 USB convertor and then plug a phono to cassette convertor.
yes it is, i done it myself
firstly you need to make one of these
youl need a 3.5mm stereo connector, cut the earphones supplied with your tytn and attach it to the connector

once you done that you need to get a radio transmitter (£15-£30 check ebay) and plug it into your 3.5mm stereo connector
as you can see there are different ways of doing it. You could also use a bluetooth enabled car radio (very cool)
i beleive my ways the cheapest, you can plug in better earphones into the tytn and get better sound aswell
i used to use one of those but stop'd when i got a car stereo which had SDcard input and usb input
was about 75$ so no biggi
my alpine stereo plays mp3 but playing tunes and even running tomtom thru the car speakers is great

can u explain how u did this.. once u cut the usb thing how do u connect it? just chop off a 3.5 thing from another set of ear phones?
have a look part way down this list of Artemis based goodies http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modul...pic&t=48131&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=51 there is an 11 pin mini USB to 3,5MM socket available as an accessory for the HTC devices, much easier than chopping up your headphones for a direct link try http://www.gpsforless.co.uk/product_details.php?id=6982
While looking for the above link I came accross this though http://www.gpsforless.co.uk/product_details.php?id=9736 Which looks even more suited to do what you need, having looked again at this last item I cannot believe what you get for less than a tenner, USB audio cable, USB charger cable and an FM transmitter, the whole lot can be used at once so you can charge the PDA and liten to music via FM - great - Mike
Xdaman85 - I've chopped the heads of a set of headphones for an orbit, can you tell me wire goes where in the stereo socket? I know I could buy an adapter but doing it myself is much more fun.
Thanks
Eoin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284512 contains a wiring diagram of the 11 pin mini USB connector, that might be of some use when doing this - Mike
nope this has nothing to do with it.. because once u chop the wire from the headset the heatset only has 1 wire
Actually it does, because when I strip it back it contains all these wires. What I need to know is what is to be connected up in the stereo line socket and where!!

Bluetooth to audio adapter

This is not really specific to the EVO but I'm looking for a bluetooth to audio adapter (3.5 mm stereo) that is reasonably priced and will work well enough for music. I want to be able to listen to podcasts and the music located on my phone on something other than headphones or the built-in speaker. I recently purchased the Yamaha NX-B02 speakers which would have been a good solution but unfortunately they emit a high pitched squeal when connected via bluetooth that I find very annoying. With an adapter like this I'll just use my home stereo. I found a number of these on eBay but without reading some reviews I'm hesitant to drop the cash.
check out the
Motorola DC800 Bluetooth Stereo Transceiver- 98690H
FEATURES - Motorola Bluetooth Home Stereo Transceiver By streaming music to your the Bluetooth Stereo Headphones, the Bluetooth Home Stereo Adapter turns audio devices such as home
stereos and MP3 players into wireless music systems. Just plug the DC800 into your home stereo or MP3 player with an included RCA cable or 3.5mm cable and you are ready to go. You can even hook
up to your RCA capable TV!

I just got this 2 days ago.
BH-214 Bluetooth Stereo Headset
So far it works very well for music (and stereo sound).
I've used if with buds at the gym and in my car (connected to an aux input) and have been very impressed with the sound.
However, when using it with my Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5vi buds... it sounds terrible.
It seems like it is not designed (although it appears to be) for stereo + mic.
I've need to try it with some of my other buds (w/ a mic) and see if it is isolated to them.
EDIT: I missed the mention about connecting it to a stereo. The downsides to this unit... is that I don't believe it transmits while charging.
I researched this quite a bit recently and this device has a lot of great reviews:
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/devices/accessories/music_gateway.jsp
Even though it's a Blackberry product it supports A2DP so it should work fine with the EVO. I don't own it so make sure you do your research but this looks like a great option.
I was using this in my car to stream audio to on my stereo and it worked great. Then I got a new head unit with bluetooth built in so I bought an AC/DC converter and plug this into the wall at home and connected it to my home stereo. Now I can stream everything from my phone to the home stereo. Works like a charm and I only picked this thing up for $30 on buy.com a year ago.

Mini-B car charger

This is a multi-part question so please read carefully
Unless it's my only option, I do NOT want to purchase a car charger made specifically for the EVO b/c of the Micro-B connector. I do, however, have plenty of car chargers that have a Mini-B connector. Now, I know I can't use those b/c they won't fit, BUT, I have my old USB "dongle" from my Touch Pro, which has an audio plug plug in it and the audio plug is next to the usb IN. This benefits me greatly b/c the setup in my car makes it a pain to have a charger going into the bottom and the audio going into the top. This way I could plug both, car charger AND audio into the dongle and plug the dongle into my phone. This worked beautifully w/ my Hero but the Hero had a Mini-B so the dongle fit right in.
Now, to make the dongle fit into my EVO, I have a tiny converter plug which has a female Mini-B and a male Micro-B.
So my question is this: since there is so much info on here regarding fast-charging, regular charging, amperage, voltage, etc.; please tell me what specs does my charger need so that it won't ruin the battery.
Like I said, I've got plenty of Mini-B chargers - do I need a 5v, 3v, 1 amp, 0.5 amp?

Do you actually get sound out doing it this way? I was always under the impression that even with a mini to micro adapter sound still would not come out using the HTC adapter.
If this works for you I need to get a mini to micro...would make my in car setup look so much better! Instead of the whole on plug on top and bottom that I have going on.
Physically impossible.
The Hero had an ExtUSB port, which is a port physically compatible with Mini-USB but has extra pins for audio in addition to the power and data pins.
The Evo has a standard microUSB port, which only has power and data pins. There's no way to get audio out of the microUSB port on the Evo.
The only ways to get audio out are the headphone port, the HDMI port, and Bluetooth.
Anyway, I'm in the same boat. I had a car mount for my Hero that let me just plug the one cable in, and it provided audio, microphone, and power all at once. I just ordered a new car stereo with Bluetooth instead for the Evo.
Dang...I could go the bluetooth route...I just don't like playing with bluetooth, idk why.
My experience in the past is that Bluetooth has been more than a little finicky, but so far with the Evo and two car stereos (a Boss 755DBI and a JVC KD-R810) it's been rock solid. I actually like being able to leave it in my pocket or take it down from the mount without interrupting the audio signal or call.
Yeah, I am thinking about getting the Kensington LiquidAUX, and giving bluetooth a go. My stereo only has a AUX input, so I need to get something if I want bluetooth.
Plus, the remote would allow me to control without having to have the phone out, so I can leave it in my pocket if I feel to lazy to put it in my mount
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=206684059&listingid=65080086&&
I had that thing with my Hero, and it rarely worked at all, let alone well. Maybe it'll be better with the Evo.
Be sure to buy it somewhere you can return it.

USB audio

So I have a Fiio E10 DAC and it works fine with my nexus 7, but my N7 dropped like 2 feet and broke, so I don't feel like buying either a $100 dac or a new nexus 7 and I want the Fiio to work with my S3.
It powers the DAC and you hear the pop when it turns on but it won't play any sound...until I tried USB Audio Recorder app thingy and selected the Fiio as a test device for playback and it sent my own voice INTO THE DAC into my headphones..
So why the hell can that app send my own voice through to my headphones but I can't use the DAC on like the only phone ever to support USB DACs? and before someone sends me a retarded useless "the holy grail of android dac support thread" Iv'e already read it like 19 times and it's just a bunch of retardation where people post pictures and tell you what dac they got to work with their S3 or whatever. I want to know why my damn DAC won't work.
Here's very detailed proof that it works. on this stupid app that is for USB audio recording or whatever, and it only plays FLAC, WAV and ****

Explain how it's fair that this is THE ONLY WAY TO GET SOUND OUT OF MY DAC
how come no one has even tried to get one of the most popular affordable DACs to even work with the S3?
Are you using an OTG usb cable?
edit: n/m
USB Audio to FiiO E17
Like others, I can confirm that the GS3 will play audio files using the USB Audio Recorder app out the USB connection to a FiiO E17 DAC. I used a straight micro USB to mini USB cable, not an OTG cable with shorted 4&5 pins.
However, it isn’t a great solution for a general music player. USB Audio Recorder is not really a full music player, and it plays only 5 file types (OGG, WAV, FLAC, AICC, and one other). But my music app on my PC (Media Monkey) won’t synch files to the GS3 that it doesn’t think the GS3 will play, which is most or all of those file types. So I can only synch files that I can’t play with USB Audio Recorder. I tested that it works by transferring a FLAC file with the GS3 as a “Storage Device.” So, it works but it isn’t a good general music player solution.

Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks
why Need that when you have an AUX port on the 10?
When i dock my phone in my car, i want to plug only one wire to it. Also do not want to have 2 wires coming out from my dashboard.
Audio through usb c should work if the Audio device supports the htc 10. i've seen some cables like this, but they won't work on the 10 because only few devices work with the 10 over usb. so it Looks like you have to have 2 wires there
Do you know which ones work with hTc 10?

nope sorry, but there should be DAC which work with htc 10. the jbl from htc Homepage work with the 10, but appearently nearly one of the few usb-c Headsets, so no real choice
I have tried this cable
and got this screen
i have found out something about driver for an HTC adapter, but i cannot get it working on my 10

This app is only for bolt/U Ultra and u11 because they have no headphone jack and therefore it is only for those device to patch the Firmware on the usb-c to 3.5mm Adapter. this cable you have has no Firmware. that's why it won't work
So there is no way to get it working?

nope only if HTC adds support. also depends on the USB port how the wires and connections are set
A workaround would be to hook up a bluetooth receiver to your car's aux input. Then, you will only need to hook up power to your phone as it will automatically connect wirelessly for audio.
my car radio have built in BT, but there is significant difference between a wire and BT audio qualitty. Am using BT just for calls
Was hoping that i can get AUX and QC in one USB type C cable. Little diasappointed about it

for when the Aux port fails, like mine did
About that...
My audio jack also stopped working. So I pursued the USB C option. However, this did not work well.
I tried the zinsoko and official htc bolt adapter. The zinsoko worked for audio but not the microphone. The htc one did not work at all.
I ended up calling HTC and they said that it was covered under the regular warranty. So I sent it in and they fixed it.
Now I just need to make time to install a new ROM on my phone.
If I were you I wouldn't pursue it...just get it repaired.
