Hi Guys, I'm a total newbie to Android, just got hold of a Defy from Clove, UK version....
One strange thing that I've discovered on the wifi connection...
I'm using a D-Link DIR-300, connected with defy by 802.11g
When I first test it with speedtest app, it gives a fairly decent speed, around 1000 kilobytes/sec upload, and 600 kilobytes/sec upload
but after a couple of days, which I have installed quite some app and rooted the phone, the upload speed maxed out at around 200 kilobytes/sec
I've tried...
1. different distance to the router to rule out signal strength
2. unroot the phone, revert settings of autostarts, adfree...etc etc, basically any apps that I can think of to rule out it's related to apps
3. reboot, reconnected (like a thousand times...)
4. try another wifi, I've tried the one at school, the download speed is normal, but the upload speed is also maxed at some point which is way worse than a couple of days ago
5. I've also tried different device (e.g. ipod touch, laptop), they all returned with normal upload speed...
I've ran out ideas.......
any suggestion is highly appreciated!

I have been having some major problems with my EVO regarding the data. If I use anything that is on the heavy side of bandwidth, like downloading a file from android marketplace, surfing the web, watching sprint tv, using the GPS, etc...the data will just time out for about 3 min at a time. For instance if I am downloading a 5mb app from android marketplace, it will maybe download a megabyte, then it will just stop downloading. If you look at the 3G symbol at the top, it will be white, but only the upstream indicator will be on. I can then open any other internet application on the phone, and nothing will work. It usually lasts for about 3 minutes at a time and happens fairly regularly. It will end up taking me 15-20 min to download a 5mb file from the marketplace. Same thing if I browse a bandwidth heavy site like digg.com. It will just time out after a while and it will just show the upstream indicator as solid and not do anything in any program.
This problem is not location dependent. I have this issue at my apartment, at work, at my friend's house, at the Sprint store...anywhere.
In chronological order, this is what I have done to troubleshoot/fix the problem:
First noticed problem
Turned off phone/Turned back on
Rooted and installed custom version of 2.1 w/ Sense
Removed battery (power cycle)
Talk to Sprint cust care. They sent signal over that reactivated the phone (2x)
Did factory reset on phone and formatted SD card
Swapped phone at Sprint store with new one
So even after swapping my EVO with a new EVO from the Sprint store and not fooling with the phone at all, I am still having the same exact issue.
I am absolutely at wit's end with this and I have no idea what to do at this point.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Does this happen over wifi too, or only 3g?

This post brought to you by my EVO 4G, by XDA-Tapatalk, and by Swype.
Thats a good question. I dont have a wifi connection to try it on at home because I keep my wifi on 5ghz N. I will take it to a friend's house and try.
yeah good luck testing it with WIFI. I'd say my WIFI is about 10 times less reliable than 3G.
I have not been able to test with Wifi yet, but I just had one of my coworkers that has the same phone to replicate the issue on his phone. He is having the same exact problem.
We set our phones next to each other and downloaded Space Buster 3D Lite off the Android Marketplace. Mine crapped out about 2mb in and so did his. He wasnt able to surf or do anything else on his phone for a few minutes just like mine.
I'm wondering if this a network problem in our area or if there is a problem with the phone.
Also, I downloaded a continuous ping program and did 3,000 pings with no packet loss, so it seems to only happen with heavy data usage ie. saturating your bandwidth.
Either way, it makes me feel a lot better to see this problem happening with other people lol
dude... i was just about to post a thread on this. im tearing my hair out with this horrible horrible problem. tmobile was better and more consistent its ridiculous...
i'm having the exact same problems, and not only just this, but i'm sending and receiving texts hours and hours off... its just not instant. wheerever i am. and sometimes i'm sending a text and this data "blackout" happens. also when i'm receiving texts i can't send texts out at the same time.. the phone gives me sms errors and then the data timeouts for minutes.. i have to wait minutes to resend the texts or use data..
Well it turns out that my friend that got this phone too is having the same exact problem......
WTF is going on here? Can people test this on their phones? Just try downloading a large file (5mb+) off android marketplace 2-3 times and watch the download. See if it stops or says download paused. Then try surfing the web when this happens.
Including myself, thats 3/3 people that are having this problem that I know personally.

I have no issues downloading large files, maybe it is location based?
It appears the OTA update that was released today fixed the problem. I've been running Sprint TV for about 4 hours with no issues. Thank god...I was about to cancel my service over this.
Hello,
I tried searching for this issue and could not find any help in the topics, though I see some others are having the same issue with out resolution.
My phone via 4g get's about 3-5mbps when I run speedtest on the evo...
I start wireless tether and the fastest speed I can get via my laptop is .7mbps.
I updated my wireless driver to allow maximum power and that has allowed the speed to stay constant and improved the situation a little. ( there was a post somewhere on here, so thank you for that one)
Any ideas/help on how I can get my wireless tether speed to match closer to the 4g speed the phone gets? I am using google's wireless tether pre3 version. I have tried all 3 versions ( from the stable one, pre2 and pre3) all having same issue.
Is a full 2-4mbps loss in speed normal via wireless tether?
I am using rooted stock 1.47 rom and have tried fresh ROM with same results.
Any tips or help is greatly appreciated.
Same here
Hey, thought I would add to the chorus...with a large caveat.
I average about 5-7 down and about 1 up pretty consistently in my home on the phone. But, when I just browse and surf the web via the Android Wifi Tether (2.07) on my phone, I only get around 500k-1meg via Speedtest.net. However, if I look at the stats on my Tether application while I view things like FB, I spike to well over 3 megs at times. AND when I get torrents, I am using my full bandwidth that my phone says I have available to me, with almost nothing lost (as far as I can tell) from the 4g service, through the Wifi, to my computer.
This might not mean too much, and in fact I might never have noticed anything, until I tried to watch HD videos on my Laptops browser connected to my Evo via the Wifi app. It simply will not give me much more than 700 k (you can track what the site (for example, TheDailyShow) sees as "available" to you), even though I know I have more than that available to me at that exact same second (because I tell the torrents that I had been downloading to slow down, and immediately speed back up again after I try to watch HD videos)
It's not the same issue, but I think they are related. Have you tried torrents to see what you actually have available to you? Try something common and legal, so as not to piss anyone off.
I know I have the capacity, and I know my phone can handle it, I just dunno why I can't get that bandwidth that I know I have access to via the Tether application on my Evo all the time that I am browsing.
Good afternoon;
This has bothered me for sometime but I normally only use my wifi at someones house or my own in the evening and both times when I noticed I always make note to ask and forget.. So.
I bought the HTC One X about 4 months ago and have had this issue since day one. I recently updated to Jellybean and the issue is still there.
I speedtest on my PC (desktop) 30mb/5mb and using speedtest on my HTC I get 26/5 (all good)
My issue is when I'm using WiFi the loading of pages, pictures.. ANYTHING is very very slow. It'll take me 10 seconds to open say slickdeals.net where as when I'm using my phones Data (AT&T) it takes me about 1-3 seconds. This goes with any site and often it'll time out as well (using wifi)
Disconnecting/reconnecting wifi does help with the connection timeout however the speed issue (of lack of) is still there and taking 10+ for whatever I'm trying to few. There are points where the speed seems normal, pictures load when I click them however I would say 95% of the time sites/pictures each take at least 5-10 seconds to load.
Some info on network and HTC One X
Network:
Sec: WPA/WPA2
Speed: 30mb/5mb
No ports blocked (I even tried DMZ'ing phone)
Phone:
Version 4.1.1
HTC Sense 4+
Anyone have any ideas or need more info? I would love any light into this issue. I have read WiFi issues with this phone but most seem to be with the quality/connection to the adapter and my signal is very good. Thanks all!
Just a throwing one in there, have you tried different browsers?

Thanks for the reply, Sorry for the late response but i wanted to give a few browsers a day to test.
Same issue on FF/Dolphin Browser/ Default
One thing I notice is that under Settings>WiFi>(My Network)>"Link Speed" shows only 2-6 Mbps. Running speed tests get me often .5 - .8 DOWN and 5.1 UP.
WiFi boost is enabled on the phone as well.

Try disabling the WiFi boost.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Search function is down right now, so please excuse me if a similar question has already been asked!
For some unknown reason my WiFi started crawling. My other devices when connected to the same network are getting anywhere from 9 Mbps to 25 Mbps. My OGP is getting .01 Mbps to .04 Mbps (yes, the decimals are in the right place).
I've tried restarting the phone, the network, and all of the devices on the network, but the crawling speeds on the phone still stand.
The phone is running stock right now, and had been running OK up until yesterday...
I'm wondering though if maybe some program I installed yesterday (free app of the day, droid of the day, etc...
) might be the culprit. I installed a few apps from the Play Store yesterday morning, but the slow down didn't show up until later in the evening. If one of them is the cause, would uninstalling it/them typically undo the damage?....
Any thoughts as to what might be going on, or how to fix it? The only thing that comes to my mind is to reset the phone to factory stock. Is there some way to reset the WiFi portion of the phone or OS without having to reset to stock?
Hello all
I have an I9195 LTE, the download speed on 3G has been very slow for the last month or so. I don't get 4g so I cannot test it out to see if that is ok or not. The upload speed is seemingly a bit better but still slower than normal. I have tried two different networks, UK based so GiffGaff and EE (T-Mobile) and the problems is identical on both operators.
A while ago I updated to a stock rom which advised updating the Modem at the same time as the original was causing low signal levels. I did this but have now restored the phone to a newer rom and updated to Modem-I9195XXUCNH5. Currently I have CM11 installed (although it makes NO different whether it is a stock, or a custom rom - the speed problem is identical on both).
A video is attached to demonstrate the problem. The problem occurs on two independent speed checking services (the second one was an awful awful app, but done to confirm it wasn't just speedtest.net playing up). Downloads from the play store are slow (max of about 150kb/s) and this is shown to speed up significantly when connecting to my wi-fi (100mbit) showing it isn't an overall problem with the phone hardware.
My theory is something is physically broken in the phone as I have done everything I can to test using different iterations of software, baseband, custom roms etc and even restored the phone back to the original stock rom it had when I purchased it (the speeds were fine then).
Can anyone shed any light on this?
