Enable JIT on Defy? - Defy General

Has anyone enabled JIT on their defy yet?

You need 2.2 for jit... did yours come with 2.2?
Also, this thread is development. Not for asking questions.

Enabling JIT is a development question so shove off.

Did some testing with JIT enabled.
Good points
Quadrant went from 1117 to 1214
Linpack went from 5.9 to 8.2
Phone did seem snappier
Bad points:
Had 3 force closes within the space of an hour or so, I had not had one before this since getting the phone
My conculsion:
Not stable and I have reverted back

Motorola China will bring DEFY to Chinese market in Jan 17 with 2.2,as far as I know.

hm der is a jit activated dalvic VM in the Xperia X10 forum.
but how can i compile these things 4 Defy?

You don't needs to compile anything, just need to copy some files to system/lib + System/bin and add add a line in build.prop

could you explain that further?
Id like to try that, too.

I was going to do a tutorial but as it was not stable that is why I didn't bother, however all the info/files can be found by using google, there not a "device specific" method of doing it as such. I have the links I used a reference saved at home so I'll put them up for you.

What about the files 4jit from the x10 device, can we use them on the defy? On x10 they are stable. See the 0.99.1 customizer thread from x10 android development forum.
What does not fuction on error? Can i copy back the original defy files or can this brick the device?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

if anybody succeed to have a stable JIT on DEFY?

if some devs can tell me whats the risk, i could try the X10 files.

There is no risk. Back up your current files and when you get force closes after installing jit revert back. Because you will get force closes. Or if you are lazy like me just reflash the firmware

[Voodoo Lagfix] : Play Voodoo with STOCK ECLAIR / FROYO kernels! - UPDATE : JM9 , JPM

Sorry for being so late. I've been extremely busy recently..
Thank you very much.
-----------------------------------------------
I've made a new update.zip
This is 98% identical with the original Voodoo lagfix-only 3.0.
the only differences are
1. loading modules on booting.
2. using stock JM8 kernel
Thanks ^^
# to users who are using the previous voodoo-with-stock kernels
-> Overwrite it!
##########
THANK YOU SUPERCURIO!!!!!
##########
### EDIT ###
1. updated JM9 support!!
2. FroYo JPM support : just remove the ".zip" at the end (Only for Odin flashing at the moment)
Sound interesting.
What about Benchmarking and battery life?
Thanks for developing.
Quadrant scores? Pros and Cons over VooDoo??
How did you modify the JM8 kernel? I thought we were limited to using the source provided by Samsung for the kernel (which is probably not the exact same as the ones used in its firmwares). Anyway, great work! Off to read more about NILFS2 now

Any chance for a JH2 or JM5 kernel as well? Preferably with EXT4! I don't like NILFS2 myself, since it feels sluggish.

This is great news. Could you post a version that uses EXT4 with the JM8 kernel please? I'd like to use the stock kernel rather than one compiled from source like in voodoo because I assume it's better optimised. Could you also post the files you used and some instructions on how you did it? I'd like to have a look at how it's implemented. Thanks!

Not to say the results would definitely change, but the benchmark itself is fairly useless for the SGS.

So this is only a repacked zImage with nilfs2.ko kernel module? To compile the kernel module you still need the kernel sources, right? Just asking because you mentioned in your last thread (if i remember right) that you are working on a froyo version...

Ah! Awesome! I must've missed thar thread.
Been using this for the past 2 hours, and the phone is flying! Sure I get a low Quadrant score but my phone has never been this fast and responsive. I must say, it's even faster than the ext4 voodoo fix.
But does it keep taking "snapshots" every now and then or have you disabled this feature? 'Coz I wouldn't want excessive reads and writes on my internal sd unnecessarily. I had low expectations for this fix considering the snapshot "feature" of the filesystem and the benchmark posted earlier in this thread, but now I'm amazed by how fast this is!
On rfs, loading apps like xda or gallery for the first time resulted in 3-4 seconds of black screen. With ext4 voodoo, about 1 second for xda and 3-4 seconds for gallery. But now with this one, xda opens up instantly and the gallery loads up within a second! Very impressed I am. Thanks for the wonderful work

Emm, is initramfs_data.cpio.zip the update.zip ? Cos from what I understand its not. Than where the original file is?
Never mind, managed to look at it just as it was reuploaded =)
So, should it be alright to disable voodoo, flash any other kernel (to remove lagfix), remove disabling file, flash your kernel?
EDIT2. Do you mind uploadng the stock JM8 kernel for reverting, since you have it?

Where is your "Meta" folder? Where are the files that hold the order of the capacitive buttons? Where are the files that will make it to where the Defy MIUI will work with the Bravo MIUI?
is there a way, on miui, to turn off icon labels on homescreens? they're kind of obnoxious and i'd love to get rid of them!
Easiest way is download miui for defy.. wipe data cache
Update in recovery.. then you will get bootloader error...
Now flash my rdannarfix.sbf with rsdlite in first post and it will fix the
Bootloader error. The sbf flashes are kernel and devtree and some other core files to get it to work. I used the sbf splitter and took out some files then repackaged it.
If you run into problems just post them and i will help you.
My plan is to let people know how to do it so someone can take over the rom development. I only have this phone until October then I'm getting an atrix. So i plan on porting as many roms as i can to help out bravo community. Anyone can use my roms to build there own and post them. Just give the proper credits to the people i ported from
Reboot and miui will boot up.
You will have service but not 3g. You need to replace files in system/etc/motorola/bvpn
Jorgon posted the signal fix files in his thread.
Then you are done.

[KITKAT] Evervolv's general and Q & A thread

This thread is meant for people with questions regarding my Kitkat ROM.
Why did I create this thread?
I want to keep my Development thread clean.
What can I ask/post about?
Almost anything, as long as it is related to me or the ROM.
Some examples;
"Does INT2EXT work with this rom?"
"Does supercharger work with this rom?"
"Where are you from?"
And so on...
Feel free to help each other out! And please, stop posting about this in the development thread.
Well I now feel officially obliged to apologize for ****ting in your development thread.

I had it installed on P11. You have to patch services.jar (there's a windows tool to do it for you here).
I had a lot of freezing problems before and after installing it. They weren't the same after I installed it; not necessarily better, just different. I have no way of knowing if it was supercharger or an app or some sort of interaction between two or more things.
I'm on 3.1.0p1 now and I have no intention of using supercharger because my Desire is more responsive and better at multitasking now than it ever was on Gingerbread with supercharger.
sorry to ask what exactly is/does supercharger?

I can't say, I don't use my desire. But.. If someone else here were to install Netflix (No need to login, just try to start) that'd be great.
Get me a logcat and I'll see what I can do.

adb logcat > netflix.txt <press enter> and start netflix. then upload it somewhere (like pastebin?)
I would ask for Aroma Installer with which we can be able to choose between different scripts (A2SD and INT2EXT) and misc.
And....what about trying Cyanogenmod settings to be able to customize even further?

Using Aroma = more bugs. No thank you.
Well.. That's Cyanogenmod and not Evervolv.
Hi Nikez, Just curious, any reason you use a2sd and not other scripts (d2ext, int2ext etc)? Speed, stability? So people won't ask and try other alternatives as you as dev explain the benefit.
By any chance, did anyone try endomondo on the new p1 release? On p11 I had a problem that every time I tried viewing the map, the phone froze.. not sure if it was some issue with gapps. Anyone hit anything similar?
@nikez thanks for the awesome JB ROM. My Desire is still kicking along after nearly 2.5 years!
I have just installed the latest update 3.0.0p11, flashed the 4.1.2 version of google apps (gapps-jb-20121011-signed) and setup app2sd.
When I view the available space using Titanium Backup I only have 36.8kB free in System Rom partition. Is that normal on stock Hboot?
Also, I installed the latest Google Calendar update from the Play Store. I now have two calendar apps installed. Has anyone else tried this yet? Do I need to remove the other one from /system?
I would like to thank you deeply for this amazing ROM. I've been searching a perfect rom for a long time, but I think I am very close to end my search now while using your ROM. Very fast, very versatile, almost stock ROM. I love simplicity and this is absolutely perfect.
The only problem I had was a problem with camera - I know this is an annoying issue with many ROMs and it's probably not very well made in the Android itself. Do you think it will get better? I understand that it probably does not depend on you, but I believe this is the last thing that is truly missing to your ROM. (But I am no power user, just a casual user).
And again, thank you for (imho) the best Jelly Bean ROM available here, and I am seriously considering a donation. Keep up the good work!
Have anyone here got flash player working good on all webbtv sites with this ROM?

[Q] Is the stock rom "good enough"?

I'm taking over a friends old R800i next week and I'm really looking forward to it since I've wanted one of these since about when it was released.
What I'm looking for is a rom that gives me all the usual stuff - GSM connection, working 3G, wifi, gps, sms, mms, camera - but, will a custom rom give me better performance for emulation?
I want to be able to emulate all kinds of consoles without losing too much performance due to the rom - nor do I want my battery to get drained while the phone isn't in use. I'm of course ready to try a bunch of roms and I have looked at some of the threads, without learning much to be honest. I'm not even up to date with who's roms are the stable ones or which is the highest SE provided rom for Play either.
Looking to emulate N64, nes, PS and sega genesis, mainly.
If you root and debloat the stock rom, you will get excellent gaming performance. I went rom using custom roms and went back to stock as it provided the best performance all around.

Have a quicklist of which items to uninstall? Is there timescape and other such stuff on the Play?
Also, which android version do you use? 2.3.4?
Was waiting for a thread like this,
Visit Gene real and take a look at the Ace xp setup,

Well Pizza_dox is an asshat refusing to answer on relevant questions in the thread he made for "the perfect setup", so I need a reliable source to go after since I have no idea what following the guide he provides will actually do to the phone (and I'm not going to learn by failing, hence why I ask questions which she/he refuses to respond properly to)
Dude sorry... But I might have been bussy and forgot to check the thread...

Please act respectful: PizzaDox has opened many manu threads, and he can't be repling at all of them.
Anyway debloating a rom is simple and can be done by everyone that wants to, by extracting the system.sin from your .79 ftf, dumping its data with flashtool in order to make it a yaffs img, extracting it with a yaffs extractor and then removing the apps located into "app" that you consider as bloat
