I have a Desire, A8183. Not rooted, no custom roms, just the standard Android 2.1 from Telstra.
I use HTC Sync 3.0.5481 on Windows Vista x64 Sp2.
My computer can recognise the Desire, HTC Sync will recognise that a Desire is connected. Desire recognises that it it plugged in to a computer.
However, nothing will sync. In the two attachments, see in the overview page, that "Sync Now" is greyed out. I cannot click on this.
In the calendar page, I cannot click on anything. Clicking on the "off" button doesn't do anything, and all the options are greyed out, unable to be clicked on.
I have tried uninstalling HTC Sync and the driver, and then reinstalling both, but this did not work.
I tried plugging the Desire into different USB ports, this didn't work either.
Not sure how to disable USB debugging mode, as I can't find it in Android 2.1.
Disregard the last synced date in the general screen, as HTC Sync says one thing, and my Desire says last sync was 4:34pm 17 November 2010.
I have created calendar events in Outlook 2007, but they have not been synced across. I have created events in the Android calendar, but they have not been synced across.
The thing is though, it used to work.
What can I do to make it work again?
Last, but not least, yes I tried searching, but I tried all the suggestions but they didn't work. Unless of course my search-fu is not so good.....
similiar problem here. i went back to version 2
So I downloaded HTC Sync 2.0.40 just then.
It doesn't even recognise that my Desire is plugged in. The Desire itself says that it cannot find HTC Sync on the computer.
Is there a version between 2.0.40 and 3.0.5481?
not to my knowledge is the desire being picked up in device manager?

Yes it is.
But now it does work with 2.0.40. Very strange.
Edit: So apparently I also have 3.0.5481 also installed. I checked with 2.0.40 to find updates, downloaded a driver update file from HTC. This was USB Driver 3.0.5481, not HTC Sync 3.0.5481. Maybe this updated driver has fixed it.

Desire uses 2.0.28 it is on root of SD card
Are you using 64 bit or 32 bit Windows 7?
I had similar issues in 64, and needed to manually place the HTC drivers in the Program Folder.
You can download the HTC x64 Drivers from here:
http ://www.multiupload.com/86L5JXTK0S
Just place them in the HTC directory (i.e. "C:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\" or where ever you choose to install HTC Sync. And then just reinstall the version that is located on the SD Card that came with the Desire.
Hope that helps, it worked for me.
had no issues with my W7 x64 Ultimate laptop and drivers - installed first time using HTCSync on the SD card

Well You probably did not noticed that on the root of SD card is a new version of HTC sync 2.0.28.
So as I wrote, he only need to intall this new version 2.0.28 from SD card. Old version 2.0.25 comes with Legend and is not working with Desire.
in each section of this forum..i find the same question, whoever gets a new phone..come here ask HTC SYNC & WIN7
kinda funny

No I did notice that and that what I used and if you read point out. I was simply giving a piece of advice that worked for me in with the problem that I had.
It works fine on win7 x64, never tried on 32 but i assume its the same.
I posted a download link if you were like me and a few others whom deleted it by mistake. I was lucky i have two HTC Desires so fished the software of the other SD:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=661397
When you install the software it asks to restart i think, you dont realyl need to do this. When you connect your phone it will detect device etc, install drivers. Once done disconnect the phone from computer for a second o two and then reconnect it, this time the HTC sync should appear on your phone. IF you do not select htc sync it will not appear as connected in the htc sync software.
Thanks for the driver link, i didn't find them on the htc site, well i thought win7 would download them automatically just like any other device i've connected to it.
w/e now i can use my outlook contacts and calendar thanks again.
EDIT:
Don't know with older versions but with latest HTC Sync 2.0.28 that's in your phone SD you don't need those drivers.
On my Windows 7 64bit when i plugged the phone a driver installation error pop'd, so i removed the sd card, inserted it in a card reader, copy'd the app on my pc and installed the htc app manually. After the installation i tried again but windows gave me the same driver error, so i just started from scratch.
Unistalled htc sync, reboot, reinstalled it, reboot, plugged in the phone in htc sync and it worked
So probably you've to first install HTC Sync then plug the phone in HTC Sync mode to get it installed correctly.
EDIT 2:
Ok nothing again...
After the first sync i unplugged the phone, now if i try to replug it i get the same driver error and the device can't be recognized. Meh i really don't know what to do.
EDIT 3:
This just sounds retarded, i plugged the htc cable directly on the back of my pc w/o using an extension cable and now it works flawlessly. Gonna play around with it more to see if that's really the problem.
hTC Sync PC Connection Issues
hTC Sync PC Connection Issues
If your hTC device (mines the new hTC Desire “Bravo”)
has connection issues with your PC – You will receive an
error message on you hTC device saying PC not found etc.
Simply check to see if you have your hTC device plugged
into a USB2 port and not the older USB1.1 port … Vista+
should have atleast 1 / 2 USB2 ports. I have 8 ports on the
rear of my PC and 2 on the front. I had connection issues,
but discovered the 2 ports on the front are USB1.1 and
norrowed down the USB2 port which was on the rear of my
PC! Plug your hTC device cable into the USB2 port (may
need trial & error to find the port, but you can check to see
if you have a USB2 port, by looking in your
DEVICE MANAGER on your PC. Open the hTC Sync
programme and then plug the cable into your phone. Select
hTC Sync on your device to do a Sync or select Disk Drive
on your device to transfer music, pics, etc. Any problems
feel free to contact me @ [email protected]
Press F8 when you start windows
Select the option that alows 3rd party drivers
and then let it boot into windows...
I think once you are in there is an option to allow 3rd party drivers.
Evan if teh drivers are from microsoft win 7 will do the same thing... odd but It's theer for a reason !
Sorry I hope this is not off topic and I don't want to hijack the thread but the people using laptops can they check if the laptop will go into hibernation mode with HTC sync installed. My XP netbook wont hibernate and I have to uninstall it after every time I use it, just want to check if it is a driver conflict with my netbook or a generic problem with HTC Sync.
Hey, glad I found this thread. I have been having trouble with HTC Sync from the outset. I have an unmodified Evo with 2.2 and an Asus netbook with Windows7 Starter. I was wondering if it might be the W7 Starter being limited in some way, but it sounds like the problem is across the board. I have managed to sync a couple of times but the phone and computer don't seem to recognize each other reliably. Right now the only thing the phone will do is accept a charge from the computer. Occasionally the computer will recognize the phone enough to install the driver but that's it. Anybody have any new news on this one?

Already installed three times.
No luck so far. Please help. I try this three times everyday since I got my desire. Don't know what am I doingwrong. Installed/re-installed HTC sync on Vista laptop multiple times. Each time restarted computer. Connects device, USB device detected and installed successfully. HTC Sync option selected on attaching USB to device and computer ....... after trying for 30 seconds, gets msg on the device that "unable to find HTC sync on your PC". Though it is open in front of me.
Can you mount it as a disk drive? If you can it at least proves that the usb drivers are working?
You might also want to try disabling any firewalls and virus checkers.
You also need a USB 2.0 port -How old is the laptop?

It easily mounts as a Disk Drive.
Disabled firewall/Antivirus too.
Got USB 2.0 ports. Its Sony Vaio with Vista, less than 2 years old.
Umm..............
Are you loading HTC Sync twice. It sits in the tray. To sync you do it all from the desire. Plug in USB lead, switch from charge only to HTC sync, after 20 to 30 secs it should connect then press sync now.
im having exactly the same trouble, let me know how fixing this goes!
I feel like crying. 2 weeks since I got the Desire. No progress with HTC Sync. Even downloaded the newer version 2.0.33, which supposedly metions Desire as a supported device. Tried all possibilites but phone doesn't find HTC Sync on computer. No problems in using it as a disk drive but it is just sync which doesn't work.
This is pushing me to the wall and I'm seriuosly thinking about going back to WM/ HD2.

Hi there,
what version of Windows are you running? Is it 32/64-bit?
Did you try different USB slots on your computer? Cured the connection issues for me.
Hello,
I use this
http://www.htc.com/fr/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=933&news_id=631
She works fine with my Desire with W7
Ensure your phone is setup to recognise HTC Sync:
1- From the Home screen, press MENU, and then tap Settings -> Accounts & sync.
2- On the Connect to PC screen on your phone, tap HTC Sync and then tap Done. Your phone attempts to find HTC Sync on your computer. Wait for a few seconds for the process to finish.
3- If your phone displays a message indicating that it’s unable to find HTC Sync, try disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable, and then repeat step 2.
4- When the Phone Connection Wizard is displayed on your computer, click Next.
5- Enter the name you want for your phone, and then click Finish.
Check the HTC Sync icon at the bottom-right side of your computer screen. If it appears green in color, that means your phone has successfully connected with your computer and HTC Sync recognizes your phone.
If you still are unable to connect, please try the following (On a Vista 32-bit computer):
1- On your phone go to Settings -> Applications -> Development and turn USB Debugging ON.
2- Turn OFF your Desire and OPEN HTC Sync on your computer.
3- Connect USB cable to computer AND THEN to your phone.
4- Turn ON your phone again.
5- Now you should see a sync icon aside of the USB icon on your Desire's status bar. Pull the notification bar down and click on the sync icon and follow the steps in the HTC sync manager on your computer.
If still unresolved, try this:
1- Navigate to c:\program files
2- Create this directory structure underneath \HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Vista_x86\
3- Unzip the uploaded zip file to that folder http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VCAV799X
4- Plug Phone into Computer via USB
5- Under Notifications Mount as USB Drive
6- Navigate to Storage Card\HTC Sync Tool_2.0.28\HTCSync_2.0.28 an run
7- Reboot
8- Open HTC sync, plug in your phone and follow the Wizard
First time I install HTC Sync( on my PC with Vista(32bit), it can not connect the Desire. I read the help file again, then I stop anti-virus software and re-install HTC Sync, and then it works fine.
@ Mastoid. Thanks for detailed reply and your help. However, nothing worked yet. Your file at megaupload is "unavailable" and therefore I haven't been able to try the third option.
OK - I was in the same boat and thought I had got one step closer but now back at square one::
Windows 7 32bit - and a 1 week old install so as clean as it gets - on a 1 yr old usb2.0 dell. Brand new desire - likewise.
Initially installed HT Sync from web site - no luck despite all the usual shutting down of firewalls (zonealarm & Windows) / AV (avira) / multiple reboots of PC & Desire.
Uninstalled HT Sync and associated driver.
Installed the version that came on SD card.
Rebooted Desire & PC.
Plugged USB into a different port (in case).
Win reported "android phone usb device - ready to use" but still couldn't find HTC Sync.
Then I disabled Avira AV and eureka - I connected.
Renabled AV and couldn't connect again.
Disabled it and connected again - left the default "My Desire" as device name and seemed to be paired with the PC.
Rather than syncing there and then I decided to check I could replicate the connection so I unplugged the desire without syncing.
WITHOUT CHANGING ANYTHING with the previously successful setup I immediately plugged the desire in again and ... no connection and cannot find HTC Sync.
I have now spent another hour plugging in and unplugging rebooting enabling disabling and I simply can't get a connection again - DAMMIT.
One thing I do notice though is that regardless of the fact I have turned off the annoying "usb debugging" in settings/apps/developer (that box is thouroughly unticked) it continues to run whenever I connect via HTC sync (HDD mode is fine btw).
It was running when I connected successfully though so my first thoughts that this was responsible somehow seem unfounded.
I'm now wrestling with a new OS on my PC and my mobile and am pulling my hair out - any thoughts / suggestions (other than "HTC Sync is ropey, unstable and doesn't play well with other apps) would be a blessing.
Tnx, M1
@ Mark, I am still in that boat with a hole.... sinking. No luck with HTC Sync. Tried all suggestions/advice. Both versions 2.0.28 and newer 2.0.33. Disbaling antivirus, all processes, multiple re-boots, multiple usb ports ....... I have given up.
Currently focused on Drivers and that "usb debugging" mode that just won't turn off.
Just got a Desire, had a Hero before. With the Hero HTC Sync found the phone, but with the Desire it just stays disconnected, and after the Phone has finished searching for HTC Sync a message pops up saying it didn't find it. So anyone know how to fix this? Running latest HTC Sync 2.0.33.
Am able to open cmd and type:
Code:
cd\
cd AndroidSDK\tools\
adb devices
And it list a serialnumber for the phone while the Phone is in HTC Sync mode. But still haven't got HTC Sync to find my phone.
Got Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
Thanks in advance.
i had to uninstall and re-install HTC sync after changing the ROM, to get it to pick up my desire again. have you tried that?
Did a reinstall, though also plugged the phone into another USB port, worked now. Though ofc not sure if it was the reinstall or other USB port that helped, but anyway thanks.
Remove your old devices in your htc sync and reconnect, if that doesnt work you may need to restart your machine (maybe even device) ive had it a few times after flashing a few roms.
I just down loaded HTC sync from new and it does not reconise my desire either. It is flashed with frost 9d. Will that make a difference??

Yes. No Sense, no sync, no way. Pick between Sync and Froyo ROMs.
Hello,
I run into the same issue: HTC Sync doesn't recognize my Desire.
I have Windows 7 32 bit OS. I installed HTC Sync v 2.0.33 and the drivers included in the package. Then I plugged my Desire and selected the HTC Sync mode. It worked for 2 mins, then it has disconnected. I unplugged, plugged, ... and now, it keeps displaying : Can't find HTC Sync on your PC.
Then, I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, and it worked in the same way: disconnected after 2 minutes. I also tried to plug the phone in another USB port, without any success.
Does sb have any idea to fix this ?
Julien.
Mine is the same - it's never been recognised, either when stock or after rooting and flashing. Tried 2 versions of HTC Sync, rebooting, reinstalling. I have now given up.
Does your OS detect the device is connected when you connect it via usb in htc sync mode or even in usb storage mode?
Same problem. Not ROM Related, but USB port related
I had the same problem.
After flashing a new ROM (R4_Evil_D with AS2D) to my device, I had no problem with HTC Sync.
After Update to HTC Sync v2.0.33, it stopped recognising my HTC Desire.
Tried everything, but plugging it into another USB port fixed it for me.
Hope this helps.
I hope this question will fit this thread. I've noticed a new app in apps list on my phone. It is listed in "downloads" tab and is called "HTC Sync". The problem is i didn't download it, but it appears in downloaded apps section. How could this be? Even more pressing on it i have an option to uninstall it. I know it's a silly question, because there is no real alert about the device, but i would like to know everything about the device and especially about things, that are going on inside without my "authorization" if could name it like that. Anyway, what is this app and what is it for and what happens if i uninstall it, because it isn't listed in the marked to reinstall it...
Thanks in advance!

Bump for my question.
HTC released the newest version of Sync that includes music syncing and other features that weren't included in the previous version of Sync, which is why i haven't started to use it until now, I am having problems though getting it to work with Virtuous 3.1
It works absolutely fine on my Windows XP laptop, but it refuses to work on my Windows 7 x64 PC, I have Android SDK installed on the Win7 but not on my XP laptop
the only thing i can think of is, SDK is somehow causing it not to work with Sync.
Anyone have a solution for this maybe?
[Solution found!]
It seems by default even after reboot, Android SDK ADB server automatically turns on with each boot, so it must be manually turned off when you want to use HTC Sync.
the command to do this is:
adb server-kill
once i did this, HTC Sync showed up on the phone as Connected, then HTC Sync found the phone.
This version of Sync is much improved over the one in Europe since it actually lets you choose internal storage or SD card for syncing.
I hope this info comes in handy to those that use SDK and Sync in the future.

Install latest HTC sync manager from HTC website
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
Yes installed latest HTC Sync Manager however problem still persists.
man do you use win xp or win 7 ? if you are using win 7 you should have no difficulties installing the drivers and the latest htc sync manager.
Here is the link for the latest sync manager anyways : http://www.htc.com/www/software/htc-sync-manager/download/
My question is not about HTC sync manager.
I was able to connect to Internet-pass through with I was using ICS 4.0.4, after upgrading to JB I'm unable to connect to Internet pass through.
The error which I get is latest HTC sync application is not installed, I'm not talking about HTC sync manager here.
I've installed HTC sync application Version: 3.3.10
However this is not getting detected in my HTC One X ... I've also Installed MTP device driver...
I used Windows 8..when the problem occured, I downloaded the latest HTC Sync for HTC One X, which is 3.3.17..
But unfortunately the HTC Driver Installer that included was failed to be installed..
So I took a radical move, I reinstall my Windows 8..and tried to reinstall HTC Sync..
wal-lah, the HTC Driver Installer was installed successfully..
And the best of all I can use Internet Pass-through again! Cheers to my office internet speed, 1gbps..
I'm also on JB ROM right now..hope this will help you..
I have the same problem any solution guys?
Mine works perfectly well /: Windows 7 64-bit, latest Sync manager.
Same problem, phone is not detected in newest HTC Sync.
When I first plugged my phone in I didn't have Sync installed, I just wanted to copy some files on the phone. Even though Windows 7 popups said that driver installation failed, the phone showed up in file explorer and worked.
I am guessing I should somehow return everything to the state before I plugged the phone in, but how do I do that?
Cant pass through Internet
Mine is XP 32bit Pro.. Already Install HTC latest Sync.. Still Cant pass through... Any way to fix it ???

Solutions provided by HTC international call centre: a) JB doesn't work with HTC Sync any more. Uninstall it and replace with HTC Sync Manager (http://www.htc.com/www/softwar... b) Internet pass through still available but buried in a new sub-menu: Settings/Wireless and Networks/More/Mobile network sharing/USB network setting/Internet pass-through.
This worked for me!
Hello,
I have HTC Desire X, and the same problem was with me,
May this help you, same as me
Disable USB Debugging
Select charging mode when popup appears
Now check Internet pass-through from Settings > More
I'm on win 7 x64 and was unable to make internet pass-through work even after installing the latest HTC Sync.
So, after doing an extensive search over the internet, I found a solution which worked for me.
I manually installed 32-bit driver for MTP device(displayed in device manager) from the htc sync folder in program files(x86)(filename: WPDMTPHW.INF)
and internet pass-through started working.
Hope this might help!!!
