[Q] Stock App removal on a NON ROOTED phone - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I was wondering if there was a way to remove some of the bloatware on a non rooted phone. With all of the issues I have read trying to root a 3.30 phone (I have hdwr 003 and software 3.30.651.3) is a pain in the butt and as much as I would like wifi tether I just don't feel comfortable doing it yet.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

There is no way unless you're rooted.

impossible. rooting is not very hard. if you have a mac, i am STILL looking for beta testers for my 3 command full root kit.

[Q] What is the "Best" root Method for Root-only App Use?

I have a stock Android 2.1 Evo rooted with Unrevoked3. I've been holding off upgrading to Froyo because I don't have a good handle on what my best upgrade option is. First of all, I really don't care about using custom ROMs or uninstalling the Sprint apps that come with the phone. All I really care about is that I want to be able to run Wifi tether and SetCPU.
Second, I want the rooting process to be as easy as possible. I probably wouldn't have bothered rooting my phone in my first place if it hadn't been for the initial unrevoked release making it so easy to do. Unrevoked3 was a bit more involved, but at least I didn't lose my existing apps or settings. So, all other things being equal, I'd really like to avoid having to backup and restore apps and application settings.
Third, I want the root to be reversible. Unless, of course, I've already irreversibly done something to my phone when I rooted it with Unrevoked3. (I haven't been able to find a clear answer anywhere that says whether or not you can "unroot" from Unrevoked3- just a lot of people asking about it and some people saying something worked for them and other people saying the same method didn't work for them). From what I understand, Unrevoked Forever willl irreversibly modify my phone, which makes me worried I won't be able to get my phone serviced under the warranty or TEP if I ever need it.
As far as I know, there isn't a way for me to upgrade to 2.2 without either 1) doing something irreversible (Unrevoked Forever), or 2) wiping my phone's apps and settings (flashing a rooted 2.2 ROM). Is that true? If I wanted, how would I flash a 2.2 ROM given my phone is already rooted with Unrevoked3?

switch between rooted and unrooted?

Just curious if it's possible to continually switch between a rooted and unrooted phone. I previously used unrevoked 3.21 and rooted, and then used the unrevoked S-ON and PC36IMG.zip file to go back to unrooted.
Is it possible to switch around between rooted and unrooted at will? Is it maybe just frowned upon/risky? Just curious.
Are you bored..?? I don't see any other reason to keep doing it..
Yeah, there shouldn't be a problem really. Unless you do it hundreds of thousands of times...you may wear out your memory, lol. I'm with jdmshoc22...unless you take it to the Sprint store all of the time there is no real reason to.
Cool just wanted to check. If memory wear and user error are the only real issues that stand in my way then that's not a problem.
I haven't taken my phone back to Sprint yet (knock on wood) but as for why I would want to go back and forth -- I don't know, I was just asking. I rooted and deleted the Sprint bloatware but then unrooted and applied the latest 3.29.651.5 update. Yes, I could have installed that as root from someone packages online, but how do I know I can trust what other people are posting on the internet? The 3.29.651.5 update is pretty slick too...made the phone very snappy!
Anyway, it seemed like more of a hassle to have root than it was worth. So what -- I could wifi tether? Not a big deal to me. I can USB tether without root access anyway. At least with an unrooted phone I can install the OTA updates. However, there may be something that comes along in the future that I really want which requires root. So I was just curious if I can root again some day without risking anything.
Thanks for the info...I'm pretty sure it will be fine.

[Q] unrevoked mobile app quesiton

ok, so i am fully rooted and tricked out, but my dad is still running a stock evo. he wants free wireless tether, but doesnt want to be rooted. i used a temporary root version of unrevoked that runs directly on the phone to do this when i first got the evo, and i am trying to do the same for him. i used the unrevoked mobile app located at www.unrevoked.com/m/ to do this for myself when i just got the evo, so i downloaded it and put it on his phone. when i hit the root button, it says it cant find the marker or extract the marker or something like that. i am aware that this uses the rageagainstthecage.bin exploit, and i know how to do it manually, but this would really be a good tool for my tech-deaf dad. does somebody know if there is any way to use this, or does it not work on the newest ota? thanks
dk
As far as I know, you can't use the wireless tether program without being permanently rooted. Or are you planing on temporarily rooting every time you need the wireless tether program?
i am planning on temporarily rooting every time. i know for a fact that this worked on the original evo 2.1 rom. i am just asking if it will work on the newest ota, and if it does, how can i get it to work for me, because it is not. thanks for responding.

Why Should i root this phone?

Hello guys,
Just traded my Galaxy S2 for a GN and am new to this phone.
Since i allready have android 4.0.4 IMM76I is there any need to root this phone?
What will it add or improve.
Please enlighten me with your extensive knowledge
Thanks in advance.
I still haven't rooted mine, after spending a couple years rooting and ROMing my devices. Love this phone bone stock.
Of course you should. Root gives you admin access to your phone. Do you own a computer and not have full admin access? Same situation.
Its up to what you can imagine and you can change it with root. Tweaks, theme status bar, system folder access, hide nav buttons, on and on.
root is a definite...flashing roms though, thats not entirely necessary since stock is still awesome
You should root it because it's a Nexus
Sent from my GNex {GSM} T-Mobile
The *only* reason I root is to install an ad blocker. The only reason I install custom ROMs is to get rid of bloatware. So for this phone, I rooted it almost immediately, but am still on stock ROM (Thanks, Google!)
Other people will give you other reasons why to root, but it'll all boil down to "I desperately want to [activity] but I can't if it's not rooted." If you have something like that, by all means root. Otherwise, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Because you can't use any of these apps properly without root:
Adfree
Adaway
Market Enabler
Quick Boot
Titanium Backup
Google Wallet (for those of us outside the U.S.)
Market unlocker
Light Flow
Call Recorder
Car Home
Chainfire3D
SetCPU
And, most importantly: StickMount
