Update Notification from VZ when on 2.2? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I keep getting this message saying that theres an update from VZW and when I try to install it, it says waiting to reboot and it never does... even if I do a reboot, it doesn't do anything it just reboots into the regular OS... I'm running Uncommon sense ROM.... so its v2.2 what is it trying to update?

Yes thats the message I get - so how do I get it to install? This is the question I am asking.....

I'm not exactly sure, I only know how to block it lol.

It's not an important update.

You don't want to install this update. Not all updates are worth installing. This is one of them IMHO. You can, as stated, modify a file to prevent it from bugging you.

Swype keeps force closing

I think that I'm allowed to post this...but I recently downloaded a cracked beta 2.10 version of Swype HVGA I think? There were two choices HVGA and WVGA, not sure what the difference is?
It was working fine for a day, and then about an hour ago I was replying to a text and I couldn't even get it to type the word I was trying to type, or any word relatively close for that matter. It should be noted that when I turned my Evo sideways to landscape mode that I would recieve and error message saying that it was not the right size for my phone as well. After this happened, I tried clearing the data and uninstalling-reinstalling. When I would click on the text box after re-installation, swype would just keep force closing.
Any ideas of why this is happening?
hah you do know they are on swype 2.6..... right now right? either way, google is your friend. i also googled it and found.... nothing. i believe i am using hvga right now with no problems. if someone more knowledgable knows the difference, an answer would be much appreciated.
and also, maybe 2.1 was just locked. they do that from time to time (swype bastards)
I use the wvga version and haven't had any problems.

Actually they are on 2.10 right now...that's what I'm using. WVGA is the correct version for the EVO. I haven't had any issues and I've been running it for three days.

honestly, second choice, just need the right words
and its 2.6 theyre on, 2.1 is wayy old
That link was good but the hvga wasn't the right one. Wvga is better and it doesn't force close.

ditto, still using the 1.60 beta. Is there any advantage to the newer version or do they both work about the same?

It's not 2.1...it's 2.10.52.13753.t100, which is newer than 2.6 and includes voice to text. The numbering is a little confusing, as it should be 3.** if they had gone by the normal build numbering system.

Where do I find this greatness you call 2.10.52.13753.t100?

I did a youtube tutorial on how to get 1.6 for the evo lol. The newer version has a few more little options but I don't notice a difference.

No, they just released 2.10 beta.
Just a heads up
It makes no difference to me but there are some MODS around here that are really uptight about posting links to Swype. Just giving you guys a heads up so you don't get banned.
I get it! 2.10 not 2.1 or 2.1.0. Version numbers work different than decimals I guess. Could someone pm me (or email, [email protected]) a link to the 2.10 wvga? Thanks
Just a random thought that came to mind, but since Swype isn't technically ported specifically for the evo or it's screen size more specifically, wouldn't this greatly affect the accuracy of it?

The accuracy in 2.10 is amazing on my Evo. The betas that they release seem to be for various devices. WVGA work perfectly on the Evo.

Yeah I was previously on a much older version of Swype and since updating to this 2.10 now that it is working correctly I'm astounded how effortlessly and stress free it is for me to type. Easily

Gingerbread update lose root?

When the gingerbread update comes out, if I update to it will I lose root? I rooted using unrevoked3 then flashed unrevoked forever.

Just wait for a dev to cook a rom based on gingerbread.

As a rule of thumb never do OTA updates. You could potentially lose the ability to root forever.
Just check on here when the update cones around. The devs will most likely have a modded rom within the same day.

From what I understand it gives you permanent NAND access, but I still wouldn't update.

I doubt the Evo will get Gingerbread. I believe the phones will only get one major upgrade, thus Evo started with 2.1, then went to 2.2. I think we will see the Desire Sense come to the Evo though to get the phones on HTCSense.com. This is just my opinion. Sprint will come out with a replacement phone for the Evo which will come with Gingerbread and it will be almost the year mark for the Evo which is about the timeframe of phone life.

I have no idea what you are talking about and not sure you do either but the evo will get gingerbread and I'm certain cyanogenmod will bring it to the evo long before HTC and sprint.

Who cares if Sprint puts out a Gingerbread update for EVO? Just flash a rom that does. They should be ready within about 2 weeks of the release. This stuff only encourages users to root.

Update question!

Ok so i had a question about the update that was sent out a couple weeks ago with slacker and VCAST apps...was wondering if i plan to root my phone will this update prevent me from doing that? I thought i had read somewhere on here a couple weeks back that a few people were having issues with either rooting after update or something like that...i could be wrong but thats y im on here asking the professionals lol. Also does the phone still run well after update? Just seems like added stuff thats not necessarily needed...THANKS

You can root it using Unrevokeds newest update. I don't personally know if the added applications affect the performance of the device in a noticeably negative way or not, since I have not updated. Maybe someone else can chime in?

It could be a very very long wait seein as there are a bunch of new phones for them to pay attention to while ignoring the Dincs.
Go ahead and root, tons of us applied the update manually to 2.2 without issue.
I have a family member working for a Verizon as a DM, I try to get information out of him, all he told me is that the Inc is "supposed" to get 2.3, had no timetable when.
When the Evo 3D comes out and the source code gets released for Sense on 2.3 hopefully the guys over here can make it work on the DInc.
I agree with Ben. Root and get 2.3 now. Why wait for a buggy IT'S when we've been building and debugging the source already.

If VZW releases 2.3 for DInc, XDA ROM-ers will do loads of stuff with it anyway...
