I was hoping someone can confirm with me if their G2 is working 'properly' with this option enabled: Location & security settings \ Use wireless networks (checked)
Test would be to see if your Google Map (or other apps that needs your location like some weather apps) can find or track you rather than being fixated at your last known position.
Mine seems to only work when using a Wi-Fi network or when I switch to EDGE cell network (2G). Never have seen it work properly with WCDMA (which is HSDPA default) and I have been using Anycut to view the Phone's info to see this portion of tidbits. BTW, I don't have 4G in my area just yet.
Is this just my phone or something in common with all G2s. My G1 does not have this issue at all.
Thanks to anyone that can verify with me.
i can confirm that my g2 has the same issue
hey try using the app gps settings to download agps data. It worked for me in finding my location via the network so it should work for you as well.

The way it works is this; the tower ID numbers are sent from your phone to google. Google then looks up the coordinates of that tower in their tower database, and sends the coordinates back to you. You then have your approximate location. If the particular tower you are connected to is NOT LISTED within google's database, then they will be unable to determine your location.
BTW, I don't have 4G in my area just yet.

Congratulations, neither does anyone else since there is not a single service provider in north america that has begun rolling out 4G (despite lies to the contrary). You will be able to recognize 4G by the speed -- 100 Mb/s down, 50 Mb/s up. Your phone is NOT CAPABLE of anything even REMOTELY CLOSE to this.

Could be a glitch in the software, I suppose, but more likely you are connected to a different tower.

Hi...
I installed WM6.5 to my TP2. Worked great and it showed my home city under the flip clock and in the weather tab.
Removed it again and went back to WM6.1 but now I've installed WM6.5 again and now it's showing another city as My Location. I can add other cities in the weather tab but I can't change the My Location city.
And I can't remove the city...
My home city is Frederiksberg and that's the city which was shown the first time I installed WM6.5. Now it's showing another city and I can't even add Frederiksberg in the weather tab.
I'm running a stock ROM on a European unlocked TP2. Not branded by any carrier, just stock version from HTC.
Can anyone help ?
try in a different room/location. mine shows a city in bangkok (gmt +7) in one of my rooms and im in a beirut (gmt +2). if i try updating in another room or go to the balcony, problem is solved. also trying disabling htc location and enabling it again.
how to Fix "My Location" with Google Maps. (workaround)
I just got a handle on the Google maps "My Location" problem with the USA version of touch pro 2.
the cell tower triangulation only works in GSM mode (meaning GPRS/EDGE network). it does not work with 3G.
It appears that Google does not have the active towers maped. it has the old towers, but not new ones... however since I do not have an android device I can not confirm whose fault this is.
all I know is the workaround: turn off your 3G connection either with a modified Comm Manager, or the tedious way:
go to settings/ Personal/ Phone; select the BAND tab, and change the network from auto to GSM.
This will disable your 3G network and start EDGE instead. then Google Maps will be able to triangulate your position.
Hope that this helps... not really.
Hopefully, T-Mobile will resolve this issue with Google soon.
also, I can confirm that we are expecting a 6.5 update soon, although they did not give me a an actual date. My guess is January as sheduled (by rumors)
Thanks for the info, now my location is within 600 meters, it was within 43,000 meters under 3G in NYC area.

My home is well within the Sprint 4G coverage area shown on the coverage maps. When I turn on 4G (from the Settings screen) it connects to the "Sprint Network" and obtains an IP address (Signal strength = Good).
BUT:
None of the applications which require network access (browser, Market, email, YouTube, etc) can connect. They'll open up, but they can't access the network. If I uncheck Mobile networks in Settings > Wireless & Networks and then re-check it again, it reports "Service unavailable" despite the fact that the 4G Settings screen still reports Connected to Spring with "Good" signal strength and I still have an IP Address.
I should add that the phone has been doing this since I got the phone in November, but I figured it was due to the "unofficial/testing" status of the 4G coverage. I also installed the new 3.70.651.1 update hoping that it would fix the problem, but it had no effect.
After telephone support ran out of things to try they issued a Ticket # and sent me to a Sprint repair location this morning. That location couldn't test the phone on 4G because the store isn't in a 4G coverage area so they just replaced it with a brand new one (not a referb). So I get it home and try it on 4G before I make a single configuration change and the new phone does exactly the same thing as the old one: Good 4G connection but no service.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Did you find an answer for it?
Thanks!
Pete
Note: All apps seem to work fine when I'm connected to 3G.
Additional info:
For the record, switching back to 3G after trying 4G results in the battery dropping like a stone. aLogcat reveals a flood of those damned <DC Connect> failures going on in the background. Thankfully, powering the phone off and on clears the problem until I try 4G again.
Two things of note:
It doesn't matter whether I use the 4G widget or the Wireless & networks screen.
Removing the 4G widget has no effect.

I'm running my Captivate glide on Orange network (device is unlocked).
I rooted it following all the steps shown in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378082 (BTW, works great thanks).
I kept AT&T rom, but issue happens also with Rogers rom.
This happens only on 3G/3G+ connections.
WiFi works great.
The issue looks quite simple: data connection drops (very) often.
No more email push notifications, ...
Have to go to Settings > Network > Airplane mode : switch it on and then witch it off to get data connection back.
It is not an operator issue. My other phone(s) are using the same and data connection works.
Is this a radio rom issue ? Is there a fix ? (didn't find a thing related to that issue).
Anyone having this issue ?
Depends on how strong your network is, I have experienced this a few times.
I keep getting this now that I have had more experience with it, anyone else experiencing random sharp drops in data speed/connection?

Well, I have 4 out of 5 bars... Signal looks strong enough to me.
If I use the same SIM card in a HTC MyTouch 4G slide => Works great, no data connection drops at all !
Looks like it depends on what programs are running and using the data connection:
- email push - connection last long enough.
- when I'm running Bejive (IM) - connection last a bit less (before the 1st drop).
- when I add Skype & LoudTalks : almost every 5 minutes connection drops.
I also noticed that after a voice phone call, sometimes data connection doesn't (cannot) restart by itself ...
Here is an idea :
Is there a way to tweak Operator connection like it can be done with HTC phones : GSM + CDMA, CDMA Only ?
Because when you switch the phone to CDMA only, it uses different frequencies and allow to keep data connections while talking on the phone.
Didn't find that option in Captivate Glide settings ...

Settings --> Wireless and Network --> Mobile Networks --> Network Mode
Didn't make a difference for me using HSPA only.

I just checked ... I don't have the "Network Mode" option in "Mobile Networks" section.
I have Roaming, allow data connection, APN, ... but not Network mode.
Weird...
I checked the operator info. Nothing out of the ordinary there.
I'm stuck ...and it keeps happening. No solution for now.

Maybe try flashing the Rogers kernel and ROM since that's what I have?

Already did that, but that was a few days ago when looking for the WiFi tethering feature ...
I'll flash it back to Rogers kernel & ROM and test.
Update: Flashed Rogers rom.
Good news is I now have the Network settings back. (AT&T rom is not the right one, for sure !)
Data connection last longer. But the issue is still here.
Still investigating...
Anyone else having this issue ?
the day before yesterday, I went to the copier room in my school and stayed for about 2 hours (too many copying). before i get out, i have no signal (mobile network not available). I need to go out to have signal back or reboot.
It happened again yesterday on the exact same location, I'm going to be there again now.
I believe it might be location wise....in my case at least.

I checked, looks like it is not linked to a specific location. I've been travelling and issue kept occuring.
Once data connection is ok, it usually stays up for 2 to 5 minutes, then drops.
"4G" symbol is still displayed - but no more data connection. Web pages not available in browser, no email sync, no more IM, ...
While data connection is down, Cellphone still works, WiFi as well.
It may be linked to an APN issue ... Or definitely a Radio ROM issue.
I'm running Baseband I927RUXKJ5.

When I got the phone the AT&T rep told me there was a known issue with the phone dropping down to lower data speed. He told me if I experienced it to get a new SIM card. Doesn't sound exactly the same but maybe try that?
My GPS on google apps work fine . like maps ... but almost every other app I download off of the market when checking the GPS points my location to Cle Elum in Washington ...
I am literally thousands upon thousands of miles away from Washington ... WTF..!!!
and no I haven't downloaded any fake location apps of any sort ..
Do you have wifi on? For some reason if I have wifi on but not connected at work my phone thinks I'm in Nashville, TN. I work in St. Paul, MN.
I don't know what causes it.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium HD app
I do have it on and connected ...
I downloded two GPS apps . one points at my actual location , the other one in Washington ..
With wifi connected, it shows me in Chicago when I'm in Pittsburgh

Google uses WiFi networks to try and determine your location. If you can change the SSID of your WiFi network, try adding "_nomap" at the end of your SSID.
This will stop Google from trying to use that wifi network for location and might correct your issue.

Actually the Google maps works fine , its the other apps that are messed up like weather widgets ...
The Problem persists even After a full wipe and installing a different ROM ..
it is NOT a GPS problem , If I turn off network location (( Mobile Data , Wifi )) the location is accurate but gets missed up when I turn it on ..
Problem is many apps go off the google location service like Google + . how DO I fix that ?

I Think that might fix the problem , How do I change that ?
Google location services crowd source the locations of wifi AP's, so for some reason it thinks one of these AP's near you is located in Cle Elum. This only happens when you are in the same place, right? Like at home, work, whatever.
I find when I travel that I come close to AP's that Google thinks is in another part of the country or even the world, especially at airports. So for a moment I will be momentarily in Singapore when I am in Charlotte. I think in the airports it is seeing other people's portable hot spots (like my phone usually is for my iPad and laptop). You would think the location s/w would do some smoothing to prevent this moving thousands of miles in an instant, but apparently not.
Some apps allow you to select which location source to use, so you could try turning off network location and use only GPS. This is really only a test though, because the app probably won't work very well with network location turned off all the time.
You could also try to let the phone sit with GPS locked on in this place where you get the bogus location data every chance you get. Theoretically, that data should make it back to Google servers and correct the location of the AP that Google thinks is in Cle Elum right now.

I don't think this will help because the bogus location data is likely coming from an AP you can't configure, and it doesn't even need to be the one you are connected to. Location services uses all AP's it can see, so it could be one of many AP's in your area.

Hello, i am using the Sprint LG G3 and have an issue with my location services.
Setting are set to High Accuracy:Network,Wifi and gps.
However, in some areas my location is off by 10miles or more.
I used the Sprint Zone diagnostics tool and it shows my network location accurate to within 95000 ft and GPS accurate to within 65ft.
Changing network from LTE to CDMA did not help, but changing location settings to Device sensors only (GPS) fixes it (however i cannot use Google Now with only GPS enabled.)
It seems my phone is only using the network location even though GPS is more accurate, shouldnt the phone use the most accurate reading if it is set to use all 3 types of location settings?
This occurs in the stock weather app, Google+, Google Maps etc...
Any advice?
I can say I have similar issue instead of GPS not working the location service through 4G service seems not working since v10l firmware, for 3G seems working intermittently, even now I am using v20a it is still acting like on v10n
