Hi...
I installed WM6.5 to my TP2. Worked great and it showed my home city under the flip clock and in the weather tab.
Removed it again and went back to WM6.1 but now I've installed WM6.5 again and now it's showing another city as My Location. I can add other cities in the weather tab but I can't change the My Location city.
And I can't remove the city...
My home city is Frederiksberg and that's the city which was shown the first time I installed WM6.5. Now it's showing another city and I can't even add Frederiksberg in the weather tab.
I'm running a stock ROM on a European unlocked TP2. Not branded by any carrier, just stock version from HTC.
Can anyone help ?
try in a different room/location. mine shows a city in bangkok (gmt +7) in one of my rooms and im in a beirut (gmt +2). if i try updating in another room or go to the balcony, problem is solved. also trying disabling htc location and enabling it again.
how to Fix "My Location" with Google Maps. (workaround)
I just got a handle on the Google maps "My Location" problem with the USA version of touch pro 2.
the cell tower triangulation only works in GSM mode (meaning GPRS/EDGE network). it does not work with 3G.
It appears that Google does not have the active towers maped. it has the old towers, but not new ones... however since I do not have an android device I can not confirm whose fault this is.
all I know is the workaround: turn off your 3G connection either with a modified Comm Manager, or the tedious way:
go to settings/ Personal/ Phone; select the BAND tab, and change the network from auto to GSM.
This will disable your 3G network and start EDGE instead. then Google Maps will be able to triangulate your position.
Hope that this helps... not really.
Hopefully, T-Mobile will resolve this issue with Google soon.
also, I can confirm that we are expecting a 6.5 update soon, although they did not give me a an actual date. My guess is January as sheduled (by rumors)
Thanks for the info, now my location is within 600 meters, it was within 43,000 meters under 3G in NYC area.

Not sure if this is old information to you guys, but today I was able to get my location on google maps working on the Cavalier.
Here are the steps:
1. Turn on Wi-fi, (you don't have to connect to a network just make sure that wireless networks are AVAILABLE)
2. Run Google Maps and click the number "0" and VOILA my location within ____ meters :-D
I thought this was cool because you can get it even if you are not connected to a wireless network, I was on the road today and it was picking up lots of wireless networks (Secured and Non-secured) and it was working.
I imagine this wouldn't work in rural areas but it worked fine with me today in the city and in the suburbs!

Surely this just works via GSM triangulation the way it always did ? Or am I missing the point ?
No, it actually works via WI-FI triangulation instead.
For some reason, GSM or cellular tower triangulation does not work on the Cavalier
Is there anyway to get the Weather to update on Edge or 3g? It will only update when I am on WIFI under the "My location" feature.
I came from 2 android phones and I had this problem on there but after a few hrs it would start working.
This has been for a couple days... I am using a custom ROM but it did it on the stock rom too.
Anyhelp is greatly appreciated guys! Thanks!
Are you able to come out on internet via Opera?
I need to manually change my connection settings every time I hard reset. Look in settings/connections/connections/advanced/select networks.
As standard it shows my wap-connection.
Everything functions as normal without WIFI and even the weather on pre-selected citys.. Like Los Angeles, CA But on the My Location weather is only updates under WIFI.
I looked under the settings and it's on T-mobile Data and My Work Network.
Funny, I was just about to ask a similar question!
I live in Norway, until yesterday I was using "NetCom" as my operator. My location worked fine - loved the feature! But when my company decided to switch to another operator "Network Norway" the feature stopped working.
The thing with this operator is that it is roaming on "Telenor" network. Mabye the roaming thing is the issue here?
I would like to get my weather back without having to find my location by myself... As you know, the automatic "My Location" finds even the smallest place, even those which aren't in the predefind list.
Another thing, when My Location is not working, I don't get the weather on the main screen either.... HELP US, please....
The Doc
Glad i'm not the only one...
I believe My Location requires either of these radios: 4.49.25.05 or 4.49.25.17. If you don't have either of those radios, it won't work. Hope that helps you
That did the trick, thanks so much! And now I know.

The Doc.
is there anyway to enable mylocation using the 3.45.25.14
My Location
I have tried to update my location weather on every radio avaible here on xda. The update doesn't work for me on any of them. But what I have figured out is that if I switch 3G off my Location updates, so thats my fix for now. Switch 3G off before I update My Location.
hello, I'm not new to the flashing scene but I'm usually on the CDMA side of things. My buddy lent me his ATT Tilt 2 to flash him a Leo ROM but for some reason out of any ROMs I tried (I'm on uDk currently) I'm not getting any GPS lock for the 'my location' weather, or anyrhing for that sake. I have it connected via activesync so there is internet access btw... Is this common or is there a GPS fix for the Tilt 2 like the keyboard one? I'm doing this without a SIM card since he is using it till I'm done with it.... Does it make a difference? Any suggestion would be appreciated.
The reason would probably be because there's no SIM card. AFAIK My Location does not use GPS, but rather triangulates your approximate location using the signal strength of the three closest towers. If you don't have a SIM, you're not on the cellular network, and thus can't use My Location. You have to use either 4.49.25.05 or 4.49.25.17 as your radio, if you're not already.
But IMO, you're not really missing out on much. My Location only seems to update whenever it feels like it, so the data is often old and irrelevant by the time I see it. I just added my city to the list of cities on the weather tab, and changed the home tab to display that instead of My Location weather.

htcs my location doesnt use gps, it uses googles location service. i try to tell people that but they never listen. you have to manually update weather with sense 2.1 but you can automatically update it every hour or so with 2.5.

thanx a lot for the reply. I'll try it out when he puts the sim back on. Oh and btw, I have been trying to make the home weather tab use a selected city rather than my location but can't find a way to switch it. Any suggestions?
thanx again

Just tap on the homescreen clock (the clock part, not the weather), and if you did it right you should appear at a screen with all your weather cities (but not on the weather tab). Simply tap the city you would like to use for time/weather so the radio bubble next to it is filled, and tap back. After that, you're all set. Keep in mind that you have to add your city to the weather tab before it shows up on that list.
yaaay!!! i updated my radio and i get an instant lock now, thanx for the tips guys
there should be a thanx button here....
I have an issue that I cannot resolve. I have read hundreds of posts, but no one has discussed this specific issue.
I am running the newest AT&T Tilt2 ROM and radio (RUU_Rhodium_S2_Cingular_US_2.10.502.4_Radio_Rhodium_4.49.25.95_Signed_Ship.exe). Before adding any cities to the weather tab, My Location on the Home tab correctly displayed all of the cities I was in at the time the weather updated (I have the Update setting at "1 hour").
After replacing the default cities with those that I wanted, My Location on the Home tab started displaying "5" instead of the city name where I live (Hampton VA). All other city names in my area display correctly as I travel except for "Hampton".
Anyone have any thoughts on the cause of this problem?
The my Location app wont work with the 3G network, it only work with Wi-FI... You have to click on the hour that will show you the locations that you have added and then you can select your location (that location will be display it under the hour of your home screen).
Aauatico69, you are the second person to tell me that, and I don't know why the perception is that the "My Location" feature of Sense does not work with 3G.
The feature works perfectly on my phone except for one specific location displaying as "5" instead of the city name. I only use wi-fi on my phone when I'm in a hot-spot location like in a restaurant. I have AT&T as my service provider, which is, of course, a 3G network. And as I said, My Location works great. As I change from town to town My Location updates the weather information under the flip-clock, and my wi-fi is definitely not on.
So unless I don't understand what people mean by "My Location doesn't work with 3G", I believe they are incorrect.
I was hoping someone can confirm with me if their G2 is working 'properly' with this option enabled: Location & security settings \ Use wireless networks (checked)
Test would be to see if your Google Map (or other apps that needs your location like some weather apps) can find or track you rather than being fixated at your last known position.
Mine seems to only work when using a Wi-Fi network or when I switch to EDGE cell network (2G). Never have seen it work properly with WCDMA (which is HSDPA default) and I have been using Anycut to view the Phone's info to see this portion of tidbits. BTW, I don't have 4G in my area just yet.
Is this just my phone or something in common with all G2s. My G1 does not have this issue at all.
Thanks to anyone that can verify with me.
i can confirm that my g2 has the same issue
hey try using the app gps settings to download agps data. It worked for me in finding my location via the network so it should work for you as well.

The way it works is this; the tower ID numbers are sent from your phone to google. Google then looks up the coordinates of that tower in their tower database, and sends the coordinates back to you. You then have your approximate location. If the particular tower you are connected to is NOT LISTED within google's database, then they will be unable to determine your location.
BTW, I don't have 4G in my area just yet.

Congratulations, neither does anyone else since there is not a single service provider in north america that has begun rolling out 4G (despite lies to the contrary). You will be able to recognize 4G by the speed -- 100 Mb/s down, 50 Mb/s up. Your phone is NOT CAPABLE of anything even REMOTELY CLOSE to this.

Could be a glitch in the software, I suppose, but more likely you are connected to a different tower.
