[Q] Cyonagenmod Installing problem.. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to Flash Cyanogenmod onto my phone, but every time I go to install the zip from my SD it starts with "Installing" and then it does a few things, runs down a little list and then it says "Installation Aborted."
I don't know what to do, I did a full wipe, deleted cache and all that jazz, so I don't know why I am still having a problem flashing this rom. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it! I am really looking forward to this ROM!

.zip file may just be corrupted. Delete it, download a new version and try to reflash.
Latest nightlies can be found here: http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?type=nightly&device=supersonic

also needs to be in q&a

I don't understand though, it's straight from the Cyanogenmod download section of the site..

if you are installing RC1 you may need to downgrade your bootloader to ENG hboot 0.76
otherwise, flash one of the nightly versions from the teamdouche mirror as they do not have bootloader version checking.
personally i'd go with the latest nightly & flash away! be sure you get the new gapps from 11/14 as well
but yea wrong section, why the hell start a new thread when the cyanogenmod thread is right in the same forum? at least post in Q&A if you feel you must start a new thread, but again what makes this worthy of a new thread?
at least you wouldn't have been flamed if you followed the rules & showed a little common sense

Of course, he or she will be flamed because people here are Mod-wannabees and have nothing better to do. in any case, next time just post in the appropriate section and for your plight...CM6 wont install because of the bootloader check and the keys. so just flash the nightlies from the website NOT rom manager. it seems to be behind by a couple.

Thread moved to Q&A.

Flashing ROMs

Can anyone tell me how to use Cyanogens latest CM6 for the Evo? I have my phone rooted via unrevoked and I have rom manager. Do I just use rom manager with Cyanogens file he released? I have posted in the 135 page thread with no help so I figured this would be the best place. Also what about gapps?
I'd like to know as well. I have never put a custom Rom on a phone before and am waiting for Cyanogen's release before trying it out for the first time.
My EVO is rooted with Unrevoked 3 which uses ClockworkMod recovery. I have rom manager as well.
Any step by step instructions for us newbies would be great. I don't like bricks.
thanks
gapps is a basket of applications that the phone uses for basic google integration, including the market. you'll need it for accessing several things, including the market.
gapps = google apps
right now the only cm build is a nightly, which means it isn't perfect, and may not have all of the functionality you want.

Doesn't take much to read through the Dev. threads (most of the guides there consists of ROM flashing tutorials).
Regardless, nobody is going to answer your question if you posted in the CM6 thread since it is about the ROM...not about how to install it.
Anyways..dumbed down, drag/drop ROM into sd card root, "install rom from sd card" in rom manager, find rom, backup current rom if you want, clear/wipe cache/data, flash gapps (same way as rom).
I tried that but it gave me error 7 when I tried to do that. Then it asked me for update.zip. Gave some weird error then.

Are you fully rooted? I'm not aware if Unrevoked unlocks nandroid.
I dont know if it gives me full root. Probably not if im having that problem. How do I unlock nand?

Have fun.
Might be a easier way now, but you'll have to search if there is one.
Main Version Older! Error. Dunno what that is.

Well I am pretty sure I got it rooted as I can use Shootme now and I wasnt able to before!!
Next question is how do I install this ----> [ROM]CM-B2_Supersonic-XV a.k.a [email protected]$T(SuperMOD) UPDATE#5
Here you go
This should be in the q&a section not the android development.
Not 100% sure but took a quick look and seems its based on CM6? so I assume you need the ENG Bootloader with extended commands, a recovery (either Clockwork or Amon_RA - you can download ROM Manager from market and that will install Clockwork - but there is also an option to install Amon_RA at the bottom), download the necessary zip files (ROM, radio/wimax updates, themes, whatever), put those on the sdcard and use the recovery to flash the new ROM. You will prob have to wipe data/cache/dalvik cache before you flash. I do not use this ROM so I don't know the specifics of it, I would suggest you to look at the post for any instructions and/or issues other users have come across and also post in that thread if you have any questions about it.
I just kept watering my evo, it grew its own roots..... wait what are we talking about?

Your obviously genuinely new and innocent. But read the forum stickies and rules first.

In english please??
Act as if you're replacing a motor on a car (do it yourself style ). Research it, watch videos, read read read, then do it all over again until you know the lingo. Then if you feel unsure, ask again. Just read man. That's the best answer your gonna get here.

[Q] Cyanogen Nightly not Working ???

I used unrevoked to root my EVO-4G and put the nightly mod on the sdisk and tried updating in recovery by selecting flash update from sdcard. why didn't it work? Basically it started up the phone and would stay at the splash screen. I fixed it, but I would really like to flash some custom ROMs. I am now running 3.07 with radio 2.15 etc. is there something I am missing? I am somewhat new to this and all the info you can give me would really help.
ps: when I boot in hboot mode it says "Supersonic EVT3 ship s-off, HBOOT 2.02" on the top
You need to wipe your /data and /cache partitions before flashing. The easiest thing to do is download and flash the FORMAT_ALL.zip (search for it on here, I've attached it a few times) and then flash CM.
Here is a link to Calkulin's mods, the Format all zip is in the OP (origianl post).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785271
Also, if formatting doesn't work, try redownloading the ROM, perhaps you got a corrupt downlaod...

Quite right! An MD5sum can verify this. Just run the md5sum command from the command line, or if you're on Windows, use this:
http://code.kliu.org/hashcheck/
Thank you guys, I will certainly try the suggestions above. I did wipe all data/cache before flashing the first time. I thought that maybe the latest nightly ROM didn't have the propper radio version for my phone. Is this a possibility?
Alright, so I flashed the regular CyanogenMod the one that says "stable" because the nightly was just too experimental for me... lol. anyways, it looks the same as the Nightly did, I haven't noticed any problems yet, but how do I dl apps? I do not see a market

You need to flash google apps, which is not included in CM.
edit: here's the link from Doc's signature ... http://goo-inside.me/
Thanks guys, I am on my way... Just a few more questions
On the stock ROM they have a sweet VM app that allows you to listen to them without dialing. how would I do that with CyanogenMod? If there is a way...

If you're talking about the Sprint Visual VoiceMail, if you search in the Themes & Apps section, you can find a download. Otherwise, the most popular voicemail solution is Google Voice, which is what I use.
I dl it from on of the forums THIS ONE and it works great, but I now get a text msg every time I get a vm. is there a better place for me to dl it where this will not happen. I am not satisfied with just blocking that text number like they suggest
edit: and how do I remove this one to add the other one if you CAN help me find a new one that will not text me
Also, i cannot adb to my phone now that it is cyanogen, i uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled the adb/bootloader interface drivers with no success

[Q] Cm7 Nightly, or any rom nightly

I tried doing a quick search but didn't find the answer.
So I'm on cm7 7.0.2.
I want to do nightlies, but i'm not sure if that means I have to flash partition, cache, and dalvek?
If thats true, then that means i'm doing an equivalent to a factory reset right (obviously not factory, but settings wipe and apps gone, etc...)?
For that matter, what is the appropriate way to run nightlies?
Titanium batch then RM backup, then flash everything and restore only titanium batch or restore RM backup too?
I've read through some other forums and there seems to be a mixed bag of answers...

Just do the backup ("nandroid") using either recovery or ROM Manager (make sure to use version 3.0.2.6+ of recovery).
Then you can either flash the nightly using ROM Manager (don't need gapps then once downloaded, only select to wipe dalvik-cache NOTHING else and DON'T partition anything) or download the ROM, CONFIRM MD5HASH MATCHES and flash in recovery. Again, wipe Dalvik-cache (found in advanced menu) ONLY.
As you are not wiping data you won't lose anything. But the backup is done just in case something goes wrong.
If it does and you flashed via ROM Manager proceed as per recovery method.

Start with the most recent. Update them every time a new comes out. If something breaks resort to previous working version.
REMEMBER that these are EXPERIMENTAL and you MUST assume they ARE broken.
Read the thread every day, understand the risks, absorb everything mentioned and well done for trying it; I'm not keen myself.
Nightly thread? I performed the search on nightly through the search bar on the top right of the page.
I also read through the pages that the forum suggested before I posted.
What is this nightly thread you speak of?
anyway, this is exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks

[Q] Android market pulled a houdini

After flashing cm6 the market disappeared from my phone.
Current Train of thought nandroid restore, reflash gapps and cm6 (gaps first this time) and see if that works.
A lil help so i dont brick my phone would be appreciated thnx
ok that did not work, now i will try to re update the zip-esprig? and start from scratch there. Re-installing everything from scratch
Don't like CM7?
Also, are you using the right gapps?
EDIT: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version/Google_Apps You want the one next to CM6(Right.) and for it to be under MDPI.
"20110501"
"md5: c97b8375ca53148fb8281216a5e583ca"
EDIT 2: Another thing, I'm pretty sure you wont brick your phone just flashing. But do it in the order of ROM first, then gapps.
This is my first time rooting so i'm getting the hang of it. But i am going to look up cm7 to try to flash that. The questions is do i simply boot into recovery mode and flash directly or do i wipe the phone first, then flash cm7?

If you're flashing a different ROM(not an update) definitely wipe. Also, welcome to the rooting world! I'm by no means a 'pro', but I like to help out when I can.
If you want to get the hang of it, grab yourself a few roms(kernels too) and just flash and see what you like.
Make sure you're using the right kernels with the right roms. Pick up the latest radio as well, if you havent. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=923878
