If you want my help also... Pm or email/iChat (same address) [email protected]
I was just asking for somebody to sort of test one of the methods on the forum so I can attempt to make a root kit like/with the help of hauss's kit that seems to only work on 3.29.
So ya,
Dk
im interested in rooting also, and my device is running the new update 3.30.651.3 which method should i use?

Pm or email me and I will give you a full run through. I sort of want a tester to build a kit. Just don't run any methods yet. I will give you full credit as a tester if we succeed. And yes, I think I know what I'm doing
Pfft, it's been released already. I've even mirrored everything. Files and some not-so-detailed (as to prevent lusers from spreading stupidity) instructions can all be found at:
http://goo-inside.me/evo/hboot_2.02_root
Great link. Like the instructions say, not noob friendly. this the tutorial I planned on using. I will give a noob tutorial for anybody who wants it. I would really love a tester. I scratch your back you scratch mine right? I will help you successfully root.
But isn't there talk about the late 003 hardware having bad blocks and difficulty in loading custom roms besides sprint lovers and stock? My gf just got an 004 hw white EVO and I'm guessing that people have had more success with the 004 hw? I've just been reading into these hboot 2.02 s-off developments before I start rooting hers. I have an 002 nova from the early days that was rooted using toast's methods so haven't had the need to stay updated on 003 and 004 root methods until recently. Studying up on the current guides before I get a chance to sit down and work on her phone, probably this weekend when I have more time to dedicate. Good luck to OP.
any other thoughts on this procedure?
reading along the forum very excited with the new white EVO same build, for you guys that already done this one and feel like sharing some of ur knowledge
Thank you guys

hi, guys. i just got my evo on august 6th. i tried using neckface's root method but got the message 'main version is older - failed'. can i still root my evo?
these are where mine stands now:
firmware version - 2.1-update1
build - 1.47.651
software - 1.47.651.1
pri - 1.40-003
i'm a linux user and comfortable with the command line so i'm happy to use any method you guys suggest and i'll even be happy to get my feet wet with adb.
please let me know if there's any way to root my phone.
thanks.
This is a question, therefore it belongs in the Q&A section.
i'm sorry. i'll move it right now.
It does belong in a different section, but to answer it, you can use Simpleroot (found in this forum) to root a .1 phone.
There are many ways to root your phone. Simple root will work as well as doing toast 1 and 2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701245
This can give you some directions. Also most of the main guys that develop on the Evo are on #htc-evo freenode.net chat room.
Yep. But Simpleroot's the easiest way for a new user, which is why it's the only one I mentioned.
Before we shove the guy over to Q&A, maybe his phone could be used to extract the PRI 1.40. Especially since the Op has Linux knowledge.

Only ones ive tried are toasts and simpleroot.. use simpleroot bro. Have fun with ur evo

i'd be happy to help any way i can. let me know what i can do.
I have the same specs as the first post.
Just my PRI is 2.33_003
I am also using windows 7
I am comfortable using DOS and all that.
I just never have rooted a phone before, but this is a phone i bought that was flashed to work with boost mobile.
When I hold down the power and down button it shows S-OFF HBOOT 2.10.0001
Thing is....when i install titanium back up or wireless tether....it says i am not rooted.
from what i know revolutionary won't work with my hboot version and simple root is next to impossible to find now since all the links are broken to download the needed files.
can i root my evo, what is the best way? I have the 2.2 version. plz leave a link
phone details
kernel 2.6.32.15
software 3.29.651.5
I heard you can now root the evo for ppl who has the 2.2
you can use revoked 3 to do it. I hearing mix things about unrevoked cause problems and you would not how to fix your phone yourself if you have problems.
What is a program can i use to back my original system that came with my phone
i heard of the full system backup.
thanks im just trying learn alot about rooting before i actually doing. Ive been reading since July... I had to wait for 2.2 root to come out.

I understand it's entincing to point him directly to search, however he is a brand new user and it's his very first post, so I think a little slack should be shown.
In any case, OP... you'll want to go here for a lot of your questions.
However, to root, please visit this thread. Hope that helps.
thanks
thanks he could cut my some but ur links really help me
I know nothing about rooting. Last phone I ever flashed a rom on was a touchro 2 aka rhodium. I just purchased my evo and its the newest model with the latest software. Is there a easy guide out there that I could understand? i been searching for a few days but I dont understand some of these methods. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanx a lot fellas......When I get to step 10 It says device offline. Any idea's as to why I get this error?............
::EDIT:: Nevermind I figured it out...Im rooted Thank you for the help fellas!!!
I officially love this forum! Was about to post this same exact thread and it suggested me here to keep from spam... NEVER have i seen that in a forum, so this is awesome. following instructions on that link to finish this up:-D
ive tried atleast 5+ different rooting methods but cant seem to get it.. i rooted my samsung moment easily as well as others but when it comes to this evo i cant do it.. i bricked it 2 times and to the point where i couldnt even flash the stock ruu anymore but luckily it was only 2 days since buying it so i was able to do a brand new swap and now i have my new evo #2 and havent touched it yet unless i got a fool proof rooting method.. Im not trying to go thru the bricking of this one to.. any input is thankful
I have never rooted my phones (HTC Hero now HTC EVO) but after I the update on my phone, it added Blockbuster and Nova to my phone and I can't delete either. And Nova is not even the full game, its a limited version and asks me to buy the full one.
So I would like to root my phone if possible to remove this bloatware crap.
Do I have any options via a one click method that will allow me to root and do this with a permanent root effect?
Thanks,
Whiteice
no one clicks. look in the dev forum for the fly like a kite method though. easy enough.
UnrEVOked is releasing their new version for hboot 2.02 versions very soon.
heh and we just got the new 2.10 hboot. are they compatible? probably not. if htc is going to take the time to update, it is going to have some new features.
Ack! I didn't know that updated the HBOOT too.... *grumbles about accepting update*
Unrevoked 3.21 is not working for the evo's latest release. Gotta hold tight untill some one can root this build
Looks like unrevoked has version 3.22 out. Any word on that?

3.22 has been out for a few weeks. It only fixed things for the incredible, not the evo.

^Seriously...I've been trying to find a quick root guide, but the quick root guides are not so quick lol. In order to know what you are doing, you have to do so much research to know what the heck they are talking about. I used to do customer ROMs and crap all the time with my Touch Pro 2 Windows mobile phone, it was SOOO much easier. And this is coming from a Sprint Service Tech, I've been messing with phones for quite awhile...
Personally, i just started all this root & mod stuff recently. Its interesting but very time consuming. Like you said the method may be quick but we have to do an hr's worth of reaseach to make it make sense 1st....
**Headache.....i know**
Again, i am offering a step by step walkthrough. Macs too in case those pc methods have you stumped. People deserve root! Heh. No but seriously, I will help...
Hi i have a mac with HTC evo 3.70 need root please help
I need some help in how to root HTC EVO please someone that did it , i dont want to brick my phone is the first time i am doing this. I have search in the internet but almost everything is in PC and not on a mac
i second that also i need to know how to root android 3.70 there has to be an easier way to do it than doing it the old fashion long way, help! thanks in advance!
I HAVE A THEORY THAT REQUIRES NO ADB WHATSOEVER AND I NEED TESTERS! pm or email me and i will tell you what i plan. it is as simple as using rom manager to pull a fast one on z4root then using unrevoked forever. PLEASE HELP MY CAUSE...
Have no fear guys...the new Unrevoked should be out soon. The developers have been updating their twitter page daily...and their updates look promising
www.twitter.com/unrevoked
This new update is said to work with software version 3.30 as well as the new OTA 3.70.
I'm also too chicken to try the multi-step method so I'm just patiently waiting for the new Unrevoked to be released
I'm right up there with you. Successfully rooted my hero (adb) although I'm still not sure what I was doing. I'm still trying to get all the clockwork, RA recovery stuff clear in my head, and now I'm trying to root my new evo with 3.70 ota. The new headache begins!
Hello everyone!
Stupid Questions! I had the Evo since october and it was when it had the old hboot. I am getting a replacement evo because on my old one the screen broke. Now i have done some reading on the new Hboot and it seems that it will root using unrevoked. now, some of the stuff i read was from january not to old but sort of current one thing that caught my attention was that it said on the new unrevoked3.3 the super user app for root acces and permissions was having some issues is this outdated? since now its been more than a month. was wondering if there was no problem rooting my new evo because i would hate to give up some goodies of the use of root. so would i be able to root my phone normally and have no problems what so ever and use it the way its supposed to be?
thanks for your help!

You will be good to go. Unrevoked works good on all hboot versions now, and you should have no issues. I've used it a few times recently, on all different versions. There are also a few other root methods out there that work, if you're interested. Check the development section, one thread is called autoroot, and is by xhausx, the other is 'there will be root' by zikronix. You have to sacrifice nothing! happy rooting.

^^This is all good although I would say the best method and thread (although all the other methods are great) is the one by zikronix simply because he helps you back up your RSA keys as well as helps you fix broken recoveries or even unroot should you need it.
Thanks for all your help guys ! and yes endeed happy rooting to all !!!
