I know nothing about rooting. Last phone I ever flashed a rom on was a touchro 2 aka rhodium. I just purchased my evo and its the newest model with the latest software. Is there a easy guide out there that I could understand? i been searching for a few days but I dont understand some of these methods. Any help would be appreciated.

ive tried atleast 5+ different rooting methods but cant seem to get it.. i rooted my samsung moment easily as well as others but when it comes to this evo i cant do it.. i bricked it 2 times and to the point where i couldnt even flash the stock ruu anymore but luckily it was only 2 days since buying it so i was able to do a brand new swap and now i have my new evo #2 and havent touched it yet unless i got a fool proof rooting method.. Im not trying to go thru the bricking of this one to.. any input is thankful

I've had my Evo for about 3 weeks now and am now wanting to root now that I see cyanogenmod is coming to Evo. I've rooted my Nexus and G1 with no problems but it seems the Evo is more difficult, what is the easiest way to root my Evo? And would someone be willing to help me with rooting it via IM or something similar?
There are tons of threads in the android development forum to show you how. Not to mention there was a one click root at some point if I am not mistaken, although I have no idea if it still works.

Yea, I've seen all of them and they all seem tedious compared to Nexus rooting. Which is the best method to go about rooting? I want to use Amon RA recovery if that helps. I'd really appreciate if someone could help me too.
Can anyone help?
Simple Root is 3 clicks & you're rooted & nand unlocked. Running win7 x64 & worked great for me.
I was reading up on it, do I need to uninstall HTC sync and the HTC drivers to get it to work??
I believe for unrevoked you need to remove those items ( the last time i checked at v2 ).
Versus Simple Root... I believe those are all required to get it to work.
What Version is your phone it would be much easier to know

Its 1.47.651.1 I'm going to try the 1 simple root method, but just have one question, am I supposed to have it on charge only or disk drive?
Charge-only
Awe crap, I forgot to put flash recovery, was I supposed to do that first or can I do that after step 1 or something???
Ok, so I got to part 4 and it just says starting part 2, thats it, it doesn't do anything more. Did I do something wrong, or....? Please help.
So could someone please help me???????
What method are u using? Try unrevoked 3, its very simple
*This was posted from my Evo 4G*
I had to do this after the using simple root method.

Thanks for replying guys, but I got it to work finally late last night. Anyways, I can't get wireless tether to work. It keeps force closing. I know I have root and everything because I was able to make a nand backup and I flashed Damagecontrol.

I know about these exe files. They are the sprint ruu files, and are common knowledge. The problem is, I don't have a pc. It would be great if I got a Mac fix.

Hello everyone!
Stupid Questions! I had the Evo since october and it was when it had the old hboot. I am getting a replacement evo because on my old one the screen broke. Now i have done some reading on the new Hboot and it seems that it will root using unrevoked. now, some of the stuff i read was from january not to old but sort of current one thing that caught my attention was that it said on the new unrevoked3.3 the super user app for root acces and permissions was having some issues is this outdated? since now its been more than a month. was wondering if there was no problem rooting my new evo because i would hate to give up some goodies of the use of root. so would i be able to root my phone normally and have no problems what so ever and use it the way its supposed to be?
thanks for your help!

You will be good to go. Unrevoked works good on all hboot versions now, and you should have no issues. I've used it a few times recently, on all different versions. There are also a few other root methods out there that work, if you're interested. Check the development section, one thread is called autoroot, and is by xhausx, the other is 'there will be root' by zikronix. You have to sacrifice nothing! happy rooting.

^^This is all good although I would say the best method and thread (although all the other methods are great) is the one by zikronix simply because he helps you back up your RSA keys as well as helps you fix broken recoveries or even unroot should you need it.
Thanks for all your help guys ! and yes endeed happy rooting to all !!!
I'm really frustrated with my phone since the gingerbread upgrade and i have been looking for links to help me root my Evo, i've heard i need to downgrade or use gingerbreak so i'm confused. If anyone knows and takes the time to provide the links it will be greatly appreciate it.
IM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM DO I USE GINGER BREAK OR DO i need to downgrade FIRST PLZ HELP
Not ready yet.
I've been looking for a while about rooting the Evo 4G 2.3.3. It's not possible yet. You can try the downgrade and such, but it won't work (tried it). Just stay on this site and check the boards every few days. Once it's possible, thee will be a massive sound around the world of cheers and other....unsightly....sounds.
My friend isn't tech savvy so he had me try to root his on the ota update, so i tried gingerbreak and it sat there for at least 30 minutes not doing anything.
Root for GingerBread, EVO
I read something about revolutionary-0.4pre3, that was supposed to be a fix for that,,and also tried RUU_SuperSonic File to try and down grade, but no such luck, got a Boot Loader error,,,uuuugh,,,not happy right now--

ok, ok put the stones down....DOWN. yes Im a newb, but im not an idiot. I have spent the last hour tonight (as well as searching a few times over the last 2 weeks) searching, not just this site, for a way to Root my MT3GS. and apparently its currently impossible.
Yes I am aware of these threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1181214
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108316
and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1189485
however none of these fully explains anything and after reading all the replies in these threads it seems that theres conflicting comments, which are confusing me to no end. so Basically I have 3 questions:
Can I root my MT3GS what is currently running the OTA push of 2.2.1?
IS there a way to get S-Off working on it?
Can I Put any new Rom(could very well be using hte wrong word, if so it should be easy to understand what i mean) on the phone so that I can remove all unwanted stock apps, install any marketplace app I had before, and (drum roll please) get NETFLIX to work on my phone?
thank you in advance to anyone who can help me. but please, please please don't just refer me to another thread, because odds are A) I have read it and it didn't explain it well enough for me to understand and feel comfortable doing it, or B) it didn't provide the needed programs or only discussed part of my question and didn't seem to fit up with other threads which covered the other areas.
in short:
1- yes, you can root it. i've done it 3 times on my phone
2- as far as now, no, unless the new method posted today actually reverts the hboot
3- yes, although there might still be some apps that are on the rom that you do not want.
hey txdeathray, thanks for your reply. I found eckres original post on a different site that was much more elaborate, but from what i read still doesnt specify the S-off problem. last post: forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/28205-stuck-on-step-8-rooting/
SO basically, if I CANT get s-off working, then even if I put cm7 or whatever other version i find, as soon as I reboot my phone, it will undo everything I did and ill be stuck with 2.2.1 again.
Have you tried the unlockr.com way to do it? Their page has a vid following you thru the process.. id post the link but im mobile at the moment

Last I looked a couple days ago there was no way working method on unlockr. heck last week the only method involved goldcards, and my firned who rooted his droid refused to touch it.

No. You don't need S-OFF to keep a new ROM. And you won't lose root with S-ON.
To my understanding, you only need S-OFF if you want to be able to manage some things without having to reboot your phone into recovery, or to get to some system files you otherwise can't with S-ON.
I have not seen the need for S-OFF for my personal use of my phone.
