[Q] Both app and theming questions regarding MIUI - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I just got my second EVO yesterday (first one was stolen in August ), anyway I was most excited to install MIUI on it after I got this bad boy rooted. I love this rom, it's beautiful, it's the smoothest one I've ever used, but I just hate how the only way to delete something off of your home screens requires an uninstallation... like the iPhone.
Is there any sort of app drawer where I can find all my apps on this rom? If not, are there any apps I can use to just hide these from my home screen?
Lastly, how do I theme this rom? I know I have to download themes for my specific version, but do I just flash it via recovery or what?
Thanks!

Since there is no app drawer, there is no default location for all your apps besides your homescreen. You can arrange everything into folders to keep it all organized. If you really miss the app drawer you can still use a home replacement app like LauncherPro and then you will have an app drawer.
For themes, like you said you need to find one that is made specifically for your MIUI build, and then flash it from recovery.

Awesome, thanks!

[Q] Apps icons showing without labels

Hi
I'm wondering whether there would be a hack so that Apps icons are showing without any label underneath (as it is the case for widgets). I'm looking for this feature for Froyo+Sense rom on my Desire?
Thx
Surfinette
this is one of the settings in ADW launcher. I think launcher pro allows that as well.
If you have one of the CM ROMs, you should already be able to do this (i don;t use CM roms, so i can;t tell you how to).
If not, you can download ADW launcher from the market and that will allow you to do it, along with all the theming as well.
Thx
I'll give it a try

[Q] Moving programs/apps from one ROM to another

I'm a beginner, but I've been trying to read up the various posts/wikis around, so I think I have the basics down. I have root and started playing around with various Sense ROMs (because I was familiar with the default Inc ROM, whatever it's called, stock ROM or something?) but a friend has been raving about how he loves Cyanogen (albeit he has a DRIOD) so I tried it out, and liked it.
I really liked the combo weather/clock widget that is included with the HTC Sense UI though, and I was hoping I could somehow copy the .apk files over to the SD card, and then install them after flashing a non-Sense ROM. I've found a few that look promising, like weather.apk and com.htc.WeatherWidget.apk, but after copying them over, nothing would show up in the app or widget menus, so I think I'm either missing files, or it just won't work.
From the little I know, I'm guessing it's perhaps because there are some system files or calls or something specific to the Sense UI that the widget requires to run?
I saw in Titanium backup that certain apps appear to be tied to certain ROMs, for example TB won't let me install "cyanogen settings" on a non-cyanogen ROM.
Is there just a fundamental difference in the code or somewhere that will stop the weather widget from working? Or can I edit or copy enough files to get this to work? Are there replacements for the weather widget? I saw several posts about something called beautiful widgets, but I also heard that it's either no longer available, doesn't work well, or has other problems.
Less importantly, I also prefer the sense keyboard, calculator, and dialer to the cyanogen ones, can any of those be ported over? Or do they have the same problems?
You cannot use Sense widgets with launchers other than Sense. They are tightly integrated.
There's nothing wrong with BW. It's highly customizable and functional. It's definitely still in the market and definitely still being supported.
Cool, I'll go get that.
Any ideas about the calc/dialer/launcher? I don't think those count as widgets, but maybe they're integrated into Sense also.
They are integrated, with the exception of the HTC keyboard. Search for HTC_IME.
If you want your sense items, you will need to run a sense Rom =/

DialerOne
DialerOne will allow for speed dialing in an AOSP ROM.
If you used that feature w/ the Sense-based ROMs, that app is a nice way to get speed dial back. Note that it will replace whatever stock dialer is on the ROM.
Also, the only other place I know of that gives the cool clock/weather for AOSP ROMs is BeautifulWidgets - a paid app from the market.
FWIW - the HTC Flashlight does work in AOSP ROMs.
hth
Fancy Widget Pro
You can skin Fancy Widget Pro to look like the Sense Flip Clock. This is the closest thing to it.
Thanks, I guess the short answer was basically that I just need to get replacements for everything, or learn to like the AOSP versions. Did get Beautiful Widgets though, looks good.

Clean up a Rom?

What I meen by that is for the new Rom for Droid incredible with the ring for the lock screen 3.0? Idk
But I was wondering if it would be hard to take things out of it?
Like I think that app draw looks like booty but Idk anything about Rom making/editing and I don't want to bother any devs lol
So would this be hard for someone new?

I'm not really sure what you're asking but it isn't difficult to take things like apps out of a rom, but if you're talking about changing the appearance of it (as in themeing) that can be trickier. You should be able to change what you need with a different launcher or themes, mods, etc.
He does not like the pages in the app drawer and wishes to know if it is hard/possible to remove parts of a rom such as the app drawer. My suggestion is that he looks at one of the alternate launchers like launcher pro. It doesn't seem that hard but it also seems like to remove things like the rosie will cause fc and boot loops.

+1 Go with one of the different launcher in the market. They're very easy to use and should give you all that you need.

Lock Screen mod?

hi there, nobody posted any lock app thread yet so here it goes.
I tried Go unlock but i think it hogs the resources over time and become laggy.
anyone else can recommend a sturdy one to install?
or any good rooting mod for this to make it 100% smooth?

Try the MIUI lock screen. They made it free and available through Play Store. You have tons of styles, themes, and all you ever wanted from a lock screen..
thanks, tried MIUI just now.
It has the 3dot menu on the lock screen after setting lock screen.
so i suppose the 3dot menu mod will get rid of this.
still feel bit un-smooth with MIUI tho.
some reason the sense one is the best so far
Try this.

Does someone know a metro-style lockscreen that runs stable and hasn't got the 3dots menu enabled? I just tried a few but there was none that really worked. Unfortanetly, for I love the tiles' look alot.
Another question: is it possible to change the icons of apps on WidgetLocker? And is the 3dots menu disabled?

I run widget locker myself, lets you have all sorts of different unlockers as well as run widgets and separate wall paper, umoung other features, all on the lock screen.

Hello,
I use widgetlocker on my One X. Yes, you can change the icons af the apps. Also there is no "3dots menu".
When you install adwnotifier you also get notification-count numbers on the lockscreen like in the normal sense lockscreen (for telephone, SMS, Mail[GMail and K9]).
I like it very much and use it in combination with apex launcher on stock rom without root.
Only the sense3 lockscreen from widgetlocker is a little laggy at my phone.
Thank you. I've installed WidgetLocker now and I like it. One problem though: I've got some icons in .png format that work great with Apex Launcher. But if I try to add them in WidgetLocker, they'll get a black background instead of a transparent one. So, how can I use these icons?

Hello all,
I am about to get the new moto z play as the seller has not shipped it yet, and in moto z play after coming from htc one m8 with its good sense ui and classic/freestlye layout themes, i will not want to use/keep the stock feel. Just want to also tell that I will never root it. So no answers on custom roms, etc needed.
Will highly appreciate the answers. It may help many more too!

Some say it is not as good (as it was,) on Marshmallow.
Edit, sadly I just realized wallpapers do not work.
No so, on our phone, albeit has one minor issue not showing all of the bottom row of app drawer icons. So the labels get chopped. For this I have a work around. Folders work, backup and restore and everything else.

Action Launcher 3 Pro is love <3
Stock launcher is actually fairly nice with little to no bloat. That being said I loaded Nova Prime since I had it already and love the tweaks it allows.
I personally use T-UI (called Shell launcher on the Play Store). It is completely different from the stock launcher and is lag free, but unless you like using a linux terminal you will not like it.
Action Launcher 3 Pro, Nova Launcher.
I have paid Nova with a live wallpaper and a white line icon pack to go with my black theme, and even with animations at stock speed and using the transition animations in Nova, it's super smooth.
I've been using Smart Launcher for awhile now.. find it to be really smooth and unbloated

Nova. I believe they have an offer/discount for the premium version on the playstore

Please forgive me for quoting myself.
I do not think most of you realize what a great launcher this is.
Let me count the ways...
Instantly sort apps by date, most used or name
Migrate browser favs which I have saved to many home pages, in various folders, after a FDR or to others phones. This is part of it's backup feature.
It is fast.
You do have to put up with a black only wallpaper and an app drawer that hides some of is bottom row. Which you can work around by touching the icon to see the whole row.
See pics.
Snip rant...
Action Launcher 3 Pro. Without a doubt one of the best launchers I've used and loaded with features. It makes it easy to replicate a Nougat look too.
Commented about lag in another thread on stock rom. Glad I'm not the only one.
If there is any way to make software fast instead of smooth please lmk. Every animation is off and it still chokes on a single factory widget.

Evie Launcher is the best. I think
Evie Launcher is free and adfree.
No lags... light weight with lot of features. better than default Oreo UI
Nova launcher here for the past 5 years fast smooth and very customisable.
