If something's not working (and you're not at fault, which you're obviously not here), that means it's time to call up T-Mobile customer support and exchange your G2.

Thanx

I am having the same problem all of a sudden

Mines functions properly now..all I did was give the speaker a few taps n it started back working
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

I saw the Teardown photos of the G2 the other day.
After seeing those, it's clear why this happens. The speaker is basically one piece attached to the back plastic panel with simple contacts built into it. The mating contacts are soldered to the mainboard. When they assemble the phone the contacts just press together. So really it can be very susceptible to dust, drops, bumps, or even slight moisture.
I work in a semi dusty environment though, and I haven't had any issues with mine. But with winter here now I'm sure it will see a lot more moisture so I'm crossing my fingers.

Screen lifting up

So I just got my evo last week and I noticed the screen lifting up above the bevel and I can see the backlight from the soft keys. I read about this on the net and apparently they fixed the issue with the new evos. Does any body else have this issue???
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
sux, dont it...
got it bad on my hardware 0002 refurb...
I believe mine is one of the newer ones (got it as a refurbished replacement a month ago.) The screen actually sits slightly below the bevel on mine. It feels kind of awkward at first but I guess it is good to have as it would help protect the screen in some instances. How old is your evo? Just new, or is it refurb?

Mine is a 004 I'm taking this ****er back this weekend for a new one. I'm still in my 30 day limit ill take it back and exchange it everyday for a week if I have to. There's no excuse for this. Now that I did some research its really starting to bother me. There should be a higher standard to be achieved when it comes to smart phones. Especially flagship devices
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Hmm I say return it asap. Sometimes products that aren't top notch do make it out in market, that's usually just something getting past quality control. I didn't have any problems with my other evo until the USB plug came unmounted from the motherboard. This was probably because I was using a Nokia USB cord that latched on to the port a little too well. Have you had any other problems with it?

Bro inlaw had to exchange his EVO for the same reason! Mine was good though...
Yep, if you just got it, definitely take it back. The problem will only get worse. My launch day evo had the same problem, and after 3 weeks, the screen came completely apart from the phone. Took it into the store in 2 pieces to have it replaced.
I talked to a techie from Sprint last night and they said they have never heard of this issue before. Jack asses. How does everybody using xda know more about these phones than an official technical support member??

It's a light leakage problem that Sprint has NEVER admitted. You can go with a link on the issue to their repair department.
Here it is acknowledged on Engadget:

That is the email for the CEO. Last time I emailed them the first week I had the Evo from launch about battery issues, I was CALLED the next day. Albeit from his assistant but that's pretty impressive. Try it. They might flag your account to get it replaced.

I have a 0003 and had no problems with mine at all. It's about 6 months old. It works well with all the sense 2.0 roms as well. hope this helps.
I just looked at mine and noticed the leaking light. The screen isnt coming up, yet (knock on wood). Mine is a 0003 and I have a stuck pixel (2 weeks old) I was worried about returning it because I didnt want a 0004. I heard 0004 was not as good, who knows! lol
Just to clarify a few things for some people.
I had a 0002 release date Evo. I didn't have any screen separation while some other people did. Some were bad. Like complete separation of the screen from the body itself. You could pull the screen off. That was obviously a defect. In dark environments I had "light leakage" from the bottom like in the Engadget picture. Not noticeable in the light.
I got my phone replaced for free cause I hosed my RSA keys. Now I am on 0003. It didn't have any heat spots on the screen and it didn't have any screen separation.
The differences was a brighter screen and a lower volume speaker (guess they got tired of blown speakers). As for the differences between the 0002 and 0003 for flashing purposes, there wasn't much. The differences are between 0002/0003 and 0004 due to the camera among other things.

Personally I like having a second phone to quickly and easily show off something cool on the new phone via video. I had a d2g that had a bad esn (I thought I could use it in Europe, but was locked out there too) and I used it a lot for that.
Also I use it when going abroad, as it will work in Europe and the states.
Also, I love using my old phones as alarm clocks. You'd be amazed how many days an old BB Curve will last with all the radios turned off. I'm guessing a Dinc2 would be good that way too.

Two questions. Could it be a GPS without a data connection?
Also, does anyone know of an app that makes your phone networked attached storage and / or plug it into a hard drive and act as an interface for NAS?

I know GPS will work without data, but if you need to pull up directions for navigation, you need to be on WiFi to download the coordinates. After that if you don't make it re-route it will work. As for the 2nd question.....idk

really on all these ideas. I still have my Eris (though the trackball still scrolls left) as an emergency backup, mp3/Pandora player for in-house and garage (anywhere WiFi reaches), and white noise machine for sleeping baby.
Sometimes wish it didn't have that trackball issue so I could use it more efficiantly, so a fully operational DInc2 laying around would be an awesome thing to have.
What did you end up getting?
Thanks for the advice. I also like the idea of an experimental unit, now that I do not rely on the device daily, I can check out the jellybean rom and try out google now

Yea, I used up all the paper in the house. It only lasts for a short while now, but it does work for a little (usually). I even replaced the trackball with a blackberry one. I was thinking about trying just caking the area around the trackball/circuit board with JB weld to prevent flex which I think is causing the intermittent contact issue caused by the location of the charging port in relation to the trackball.
Ah well, either way it is extra and it wont be the end of the workl if I destroy it!
Yay for extras!

htc/Verizon asks that you place your inc2 on end of barrel of a 12 gauge, insert 3in slug, make it rain incredible flakes. now your inc2 has been officially updated by Verizon
Like someone else mentioned, the phone could be used as a VOIP home phone. All it requires is a Google Voice account and an app called GrooveIP (there's a free version, but the $5 full-featured version is definitely worth the money in my opinion). I also take it with me when I travel, since most airports and lots of hotels offer free WiFi, which allows me to make as many phone calls as I like without running up my minutes. I've been using my Inc2 for this purpose for awhile now, and it's very nice to have. I keep the phone in a dock and also use it for streaming music when I'm home as well as for my alarm clock. Just because the phone isn't activated on a wireless plan shouldn't mean that it can't serve a purpose.
Only other piece of advice; I would steer clear of ICS/JB based Roms if using it as a VOIP phone. I had nothing but trouble with the audio settings on GrooveIP. But the stock Rom, or any GB-based Rom should work fine. I use MROM (which is CM7 based) and it works exactly as expected.

Sudden low wi-fi signals

For the past few months, there was no issue with the wifi reception of the phone whatsoever.
But liked for a few days now, I've been experiencing low signals lately.. At home, usually, the connection is excellent. Now, it's just too good to poor.
I don't know what's happening. I've tried reflashing the rom, flashing the kernel, and its still there.. Any insights?

[Help] Water Damage

I have gotten my note 2 water damged. I have dried it out and cleaned it and everything, but there is still one lingering problem. There is a water bubble in the rear camera. I have unassembled it and dried the lens but still its not working properly. So the problem is there is water in the actual rear camera and i wanted to know how to fix it without replacing it.

Considering the fact the radio, kernel, and OS are pretty much interchangeable between the t889 and n7100, I'd say it uses the same driver. ....... meaning same hardware. Looks identical, same connector, and same drivers...... you think it wont work why?
Both use the tolte kernels and build tree as well.
Besides, I cant imagine Samsung would make multiple camera modules that are all different.... but look alike..... that wouldnt be very cost inefficient for them.

Based on my stated reasons, the same website list 2 part numbers and 2 different prices.
And to cost efficient why do some have wireless charging and we have to mod ours. The s3 had a thread just like this and you know what, there was a slight size difference they caused it not to work. Will this one work, I don't know I'm just looking at details and made a comment. By the way I'm talking hardware differences. It can be the same core hardware with difference shell causing it not to fit

BURRNNNN!
For future reference i would take each advice with gratitude and not trying to prove one person wrong. Have an open mind. He is right if you did a little more research you would see he is right.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
First of all... the only thing I was wrong about was that the tolte was n7105..... for that, I stand corrected.
HOWEVER.....There is no burn as I am not wrong. Hardware wise the devices are identical as they use the exact same drivers for the cam.
Much like you can use the same driver made for a dlink on a netgear, or belkin wireless card, as long as they all are the same interface ( pci / usb ) and run on the same chipset. Same concept. Different part numbers but the same driver and connection = same device period.
Proof? Refer to this thread... you can port any n7100 rom to an n7105.... and since n7105 is tolte...... as is the t889, all drivers are the same.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018411
Partitions are laid out differently. ..However....you can modify n7100 roms to work for n7105 and i317. As such, that means the firmware to run the camera module should identical...also meaning the camera hardware is using the same components.
Now.....Since we do use the international note base in some of our t889 builds, ( JediX to name one ), that means the n7105 camera is the same as the t889 at least driver wise.
As long as the connection to the motherboard is the same, which it appears to be, and it has the same driver to control the hardware, he should be good to go. Ill order one next week just to try ......
Never go 100% based on part numbers ... I worked for Ricoh as a field technician ( digital imaging + digital copy equipment ) ...we used the same 5 photo sensors for 30+ machines. All had different part numbers but were all interchangeable. Part numbers were different so there was accountability for which models used sensors more.
One more thing. Some one also documented that when they tore down their phone, there were multiple models printed on the ribbons and other hardware ( i317 , n7105 etc ). Im willing to bet that there are n7100 parts in some of our phones anyway.....

Also, I'm not going by part number only. In your rant you missed the fact I said we had this exact scenario on the Verizon s3 and there was a slight difference in size that didn't allow it to fit.
But go in with your Internet gangster self, you're a bad man and the smartest person here.
I'd like to remind you on one thing though. You're talking about the RON being interchangeable. The"drivers" are in the kernel, which is not interchangeable. Try a TO3G kernel on your phone and let me know how that works out.

Bluetooth problems

I have problems with my bluetooth headphones. It will connect and I can hear music for about 1 minute then it stops, my phone becomes unresponsive then it will usually reboot but get stuck. I usually have to pull the battery to restart.
I'm curious if there is something that I have flashed in the past to cause this.
The headphones work fine on my wifes 4g touch and my galaxy tablet as well.
I've even unrooted and went back to stock but still no luck.

You can get used E4GTs all day long for under $100 in good condition on Craigslist where I am. I usually see them running $50-$75, but I paid $30 for the last one I bought.
I would suggest buying a new one, and selling the defective one on eBay for parts. If the shell is in fair condition someone will buy it.
The other option, if you are not under contract, is to consider an upgrade to the s4. I have seen some $0-$50 prices so far this holiday season.
