Road sms (free samsung app from app store), is being charged for in android market by "rayman50".
http://www.appbrain.com/app/road-sms/kr.touchsoft.samsung.roadSms
I hate when people do **** like that, charge for apps that are meant to be free. I would like to ask him to stop distributing it, but I can't see any contact details.
Here's an idea: The app was created by rayman50, who reached an agreement with Samsung that allowed them to distribute the app for SGS. He can still sell it if he wants to.
Just like Asphalt 5 - created and sold by Gameloft, but Samsung give it for free to SGS users

Um, thats a possibility sure, and if true I'd completely apologize.
However, it seems pretty unlikely when you look at all the other apps he's distributing on the market, some of which I am 100% sure are not developed by him.
Gallery3D (made by cooliris iirc)
LG Home (LG)
LG Memo Widget (LG)
LG Calendar (LG)
Call Mum (HTC)
He hasn't even changed the internal name of the package kr.touchsoft.samsung.roadSms. If you consider asphalt, the package has "gameloft" the author in it. This has "touchsoft" in it so I'm inclined to believe it's developed by touchsoft http://www.touchsoft.com.au/TouchSoft/Home.html
So most of the apps he distributes are just dumped from various devices, and he wouldn't have permission to distribute. I think that's pretty shady, but doesn't really bother me as long as they're free (as they're meant to be, and can be acquired on xda/other sites anyway).
But when you charge for a free app made by someone else, that is immoral and against the spirit of the android community
Imagine if you paid for the app, and then realized that you weren't even paying the real author, and that it is freely distributed (and legally) elsewhere.
EDIT: I have emailed him to peacefully ask him to stop charging. I'm not trying to be anal here, I just hate to see this kind of thing happening.
Hmm.. If he is doing something dodgy then I suggest you send a complaint to Google then Samsung. They have lawyers on leshes ready for blood
No I wouldn't go that far, it's not my problem really, I just don't want people in the community to get scammed. So I've asked him to do stop charging in the email.

what i wanna know is he actaully getting paid $1.23 for every one of them sold? it says there are 100-500 downloads... so he made at least $123 doing this???!!!
If so, where do i sign up!
Well it says he originally released it to the market for free, so how many of those downloads are paid i don't know... But it's likely some of them were eh..
If that's the case, flag it in the market. I just did.

The final devices just got announced, devs will probably take a swing at it, AND ive seen some wm7 dumps going around the forum. sooooo... what do you all think? i'd love to have a play with this, just like every other ZOMG-NEW-UI-I-GOTS-TO-HAVE! guy here haha
is there already some work going on?
Zero chance, It would be illegal to do so as the license is sold with the device,
Just for fun?

I don't want it on my phone... WP7 has the ugliest UI I've ever seen. Some animations and transitions looks cool but other than that it just makes wanna throw up!
im more into it for the social interaction, the way facebook integrates and everything, it looked pretty good in all the demos..

when you buy the phone you pay the licence too... android phones must cost less then a wm phone...

First of all, I believe the phone manufacturers still pay a fee to Google for the GApps.
Secondly, it's all about profit margins - Android is attractive to companies like HTC because they likely make more money per unit than they would if they use WP7.

If a website has an apk file for an app that normally costs money, do I still get charged if I download it from the web through Astro?
So, if I find Root Explorer ($3.87 in market) can I download the app from the web to my phone and not be charged?

What would the point of piracy be if you still got charged? Yeah, you can do that, or you can just purchase the app for a mere $3. Show some support to the guy who created it. The more you pirate, the less people want to produce paid content, and all of us suffer for it.
Aside from being frowned upon, there are also other risks involved....

The beautiful thing is that Geinimi only targets those that truly deserve to have their phone infected.
Seriously, if you're so cheap that you have to steal a $3 app, then you probably don't need to be shelling out the dough every month for a smartphone with data.
As already mentioned, pirating apps alienates devs and hurts the community as a whole. Additionally, the pirated apk can either be packaged with malware or request unnecessary permissions. And, of course, there is the fact that pirated apps aren't updatable- if an updated version is released that contains security enhancements or new features, the thief is stuck with the older version.
In summary... don't be a douche. Just pay the measly three bucks for the app if you want it, or use a free alternative from the market such as Astro or ES File Explorer.

End of story, and if you do pirate $3 apps, I hope you do get that virus. Then you can come back on here asking how to "pirate" a new phone...
I just wanted to know how that worked (whether or not it shows up in the market or if you can update it), like I want to know how a lot of things work, so you shouldn't assume automatically that I, myself, want to use the pirated apps.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
If you pirate it doesn't show up. Pirating isn't the worst thing ever but buying helps support the app and the community. Also a virus has popped up and others will follow suit so its becoming unsafe. If your gonna download online apps at least use an anti virus. I suggest look out. If you like apps please pay for them.

It is completely understandable to want to try an app, especially with the 15 minute return window. If you decide the app is worth it, purchase it from the market.

So I just did this and now have an app hub account!
And almost immediately I want to just give up after seeing all the rubbish I have to go through in order to get paid for apps. A long, complicated process involving my passport, snail mailing forms to some US tax department...

Getting the account itself is pretty straightforward. It's ensuring you can get paid without having 30% of what you make from apps disappear that's is hard.
Apple and Google pay from the local office. I fail to see why MS can't do the same.
(They could, but as usual MS doesn't care about people outside the USA).

Sideloading a game sounds like the game is being pirated. There is no supported method to buy a game then sideload it in the WP7 marketplace.
The only way that this is possably legal is if the OP paid for the game, then sideloaded it but, even then it's questionable.
As I am wondering how this works, it's stil a questionable in a legal aspect, so I will not continue the discussion.
Personally, this promotes piracy (with the DFT rom you can still get achivements off downloaded Xbox live games) and this thread should be closed...if not deleted.

And that makes it okay? Gtfoh, these developers bust their asses to deliver great products to us, and some of you guys believe the world should be free. It must be nice envisioning a communist society, some of you even live in one. But, considering I'm not a communist or socialist, I think the arguments to support piracy on this forum are ridiculous. I really hope those new encryption updates by Microsoft stop this BS and ban anybody's gamertag who used a stolen game.

In fact, the payment system records what games you have bought all through. Once you would like to install it again (on same Live account), they will ask you if you would like to installed it again now as you have already paid for that.
I haven't met the double payment for the same app so far.
Even pressing "buy" still doesn't mean you have already bought and paid, instead they will ask you if you really want to pay as there is no refund for it. You may have a try.

That still is not an excuse to pirate. Most banks offer pre-paid creditcard options for this type of stuff.
Now days if you open any checking account (at least in the US) you expect to get a debit card with a Visa/Mastercard logo on it.
As I 100% agree with you, everyone thought, Xbox live=Xbox points before WP7 came out. I would like the option myself but, it should not make you pirate.
If you can afford the collection of phones that you have had or have, I am sure you can afford a $2-5 game or app here and there. If you can not, sell your smart phone and go buy a fip phone. You should not be here in the first place.

Quick note: Galaxy S II audio hardware is not Voodoo Sound capable.
I work only on Super AMOLED plus, awaiting better quality audio chip in the future generations of devices (Voodoo Sound is still in development for supported devices)
Allgamer: if people want to raise funds to send me a device why not. It will always be soon enough to cancel the process if Tmo/Samsung does, and will also demonstrate users determination.
Feel free to contact Samsung reps but please avoid spamming them, it would be severely counter-productive.
As long as you are okay with that, then by all means lets turn this topic into an official [BOUNTY] for Mr. curio
WHERE DO WE DONATE?
The link in Sir Curio's signature is for donating to his Voodoo project, do we need another link for T989 screen issue only, for easier financial consolidation?
There should be another donation link but not sure if super has it or not. I'm waiting for him to give us the link to where to donate so I can put it on the OP.

Its easier than refunding everyone if its canceled for some reason
As I cannot buy this device in France, it would be pretty nice to choose a trusty well known peer who would receive the donations, buy the phone and post it (shipping costs about $35, something like that) in my direction.
I'm listening.
I own Gigahertz Computers in Warner Robins, GA. IV never done any business in the marketplace here but I have an associate with a tmo sgs2 for $400 that is new (opened and played with but spotless and is in the box with receipt where he paid full retail from a walk-in tmo store 2 weeks ago. I have a PayPal account and would be more than happy to take on the responsibility of taking the donations and getting SC the device. I have an eBay account with 44 recent transactions (mostly phones) that is spotless everybody can checkout. Mountdenizen is the screen name. My business is a Mac / mobile device service and support shop and the eBay transactions have been done because of it. Allgamer, I'm not real sure how this all works but IV seen the thread for awhile now and have seen people talking about starting a pot for the device... just thought we may need to take the bull by the horns here. I in no way feel special or entitled to do this, just willing. I'm listening as well. My email is [email protected] and that's also my PayPal account. I'm on here on and off all day (kind of Android obsessed here) so you can contact me anytime.
