[BOUNTY] For Supercurio to fix SGH-T989 Screen Issues + more!! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Donations is completed and supercurio has successfully received the phone and he is currently working on the kernel drivers for the fixes so stay tuned and make sure to fallow his twitter account for more updates. Thanks to everyone that donated and supported the thread. I'm pretty sure supercurio is also thankfull to you guys.
Use this thread to discuss about the fix and also to chit chat about anything related the screen problems on our SGH-T989.

i think you missed the point
Supercurio said Samsung should send him one, not us
he didn't ask us to pitch in for a device
he asked us to contact Samsung and have Samsung send him a device.
found it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19142874&postcount=220

Note: I received a donation but when I tell "I don't have a device" the goal is not really to ask you to pay for it − especially since I have no idea if I'll get results eventually.
I firmly believe it's manufacturer's role to fix it. And the manufacturer here is Sam.. err no; it doesn't really works like that in the US. Manufacturer is T-Mobile.

I didn't not know about this sorry. I guess there is nothing wrong with the community to pitch in for a device....Samsung might not send him one. This is a heck of great community so I'm pretty sure we can all get him the device faster than Samsung.

there fixed your tittle

How do we go about asking Samsung to do this? I can't just say "hey give supercurio a T989" they wouldn't even know who I'm talking about.
Someone wants to organize this?

i vote for Surfacet to lead this, since he started this topic

The thing is I never done a thread like this before. This is my first thread ever on xda. This thread got sticked? I thought it got removed or something lol.
Lets see supercurio's response. I cant send him a message since he got it disabled
-Algamer
Contacting Samsung was kinda your idea...My idea was to make it a bounty and donate to him for the cause

Social media is a great medium.

Spam Samsung John and Carla anyone? Let's do it.

I'd be willing to donate. Just look how fast the other devs got their bounties, I bet we could get him one in two weeks or less.

Quick note: Galaxy S II audio hardware is not Voodoo Sound capable.
I work only on Super AMOLED plus, awaiting better quality audio chip in the future generations of devices (Voodoo Sound is still in development for supported devices)
Allgamer: if people want to raise funds to send me a device why not. It will always be soon enough to cancel the process if Tmo/Samsung does, and will also demonstrate users determination.
Feel free to contact Samsung reps but please avoid spamming them, it would be severely counter-productive.

As long as you are okay with that, then by all means lets turn this topic into an official [BOUNTY] for Mr. curio

WHERE DO WE DONATE?
The link in Sir Curio's signature is for donating to his Voodoo project, do we need another link for T989 screen issue only, for easier financial consolidation?

There should be another donation link but not sure if super has it or not. I'm waiting for him to give us the link to where to donate so I can put it on the OP.

As written in the bounty guidelines, I would suggest counting first and then, later, sending the donations.
Its easier than refunding everyone if its canceled for some reason
As I cannot buy this device in France, it would be pretty nice to choose a trusty well known peer who would receive the donations, buy the phone and post it (shipping costs about $35, something like that) in my direction.
I'm listening.

I own Gigahertz Computers in Warner Robins, GA. IV never done any business in the marketplace here but I have an associate with a tmo sgs2 for $400 that is new (opened and played with but spotless and is in the box with receipt where he paid full retail from a walk-in tmo store 2 weeks ago. I have a PayPal account and would be more than happy to take on the responsibility of taking the donations and getting SC the device. I have an eBay account with 44 recent transactions (mostly phones) that is spotless everybody can checkout. Mountdenizen is the screen name. My business is a Mac / mobile device service and support shop and the eBay transactions have been done because of it. Allgamer, I'm not real sure how this all works but IV seen the thread for awhile now and have seen people talking about starting a pot for the device... just thought we may need to take the bull by the horns here. I in no way feel special or entitled to do this, just willing. I'm listening as well. My email is [email protected] and that's also my PayPal account. I'm on here on and off all day (kind of Android obsessed here) so you can contact me anytime. I do think we need to keep everything public and in the forums to keep all parties involved as transparent as possible. Off to bed, ill check back in the A.M.

You guys won't regret getting this guy the device. He will unleash its power. He is one of respectful developers on xda. Check out his work.

I'd be happy to donate a few dollars. I love super's work on the vibrant. Voodoo and voodoo sound just made it top notch.

Collecting money for Cotulla to purchase Samsung phones

Hi everybody!
Recently I've spoke with Cotulla and he agreed to try to hack Samsung handsets to create a custom ROM. I think it's a GREAT NEWS! The only one cons - Cotulla don't have any Samsung handset. So, I've decide to collect money to buy used Samsung handsets on ebay and send 'em to Cotulla.
I've checked price for used Samsung handsets on ebay and got about $160-180 for used Focus and $260-270 for Omnia (Cotulla asked for two different handsets - I beleive he knows what he needs!). EMS shipping will costs about $60.
The agenda is:
collect $550 using ChipIn service;
buy two Samsung's handets, Focus and Omnia;
send these phones to Cotulla via EMS or FedEx;
rest will be donated to Cotulla;
All money flow will be open and clear; I'll post a receipt scans and periodically will report progress (ChipIn service is already open and clear).
The backup plan (if we can't collect desired amount during month) is:
if we'll have money for one Focus, I'll send Focus only to Cotulla. If not, collected money will be donated to Cotulla.
I hope the xda already has at least 50-100 generous Samsung handsets owners who want to get a "ROM freedom", so
WBR, SeNS
P.S. Just tried to make a first donation by myself but I can't because ChipIn is wired to my PayPal account BTW, I'll donate anyway!
P.P.S. Project finished, will publish project's statement later.
*********************************************************************************************
P.P.P.S. Project's financial report:
HTML:
Total donated: $161.00 (13 contributors)
Cash collected: $151.19 ($10 - PayPal fees)
Samsung Focus: $163.61 (bought on ebay, price with S&H + MA tax)
Shipping to Cotulla: $ 11.39
Grand total: $175.00
(my donation) $ 23.81
Maybe I'm missing something, but why not ask the seller to send the phone directly to Cotulla? Oh, I see he is from Russia... maybe you can get someone to buy and send a phone from Germany to him? It's about 200 Euro in Germany, brand new. Maybe ebay.de will find you something cheaper even.
Yes, we talked in XDA PM with sensboston about ability for DFT team try to "unlock" Samsung devices for custom ROMs
Usually we working only with HTC devices, but why not try new?
Actually, We need few days to do static analysis on Samsung ROMs to finally confirm that DFT take this project. (Maybe Samsung devices are too strongly secured so it can become very hard work )
something in case you didnt know yet.
just Omnia7 Sales are already above 5,000 at Taobao a month in China.
so large Samsung handsets owners...
Charging Paypal via Alipay we usually used is inconvenient.
ChipIn. More difficult ..for chinese . i think..
from wpxap.com
I will donate next month something.
Personally I own a Samsung Omnia 7 and its a pretty beautiful device, but what will happen with Custom Roms?
It would be simple fing awesome.
I owned the Xperia X1 with Custom Roms and the Samsung Omnia itself.
DFT you're making a awesome job for the community.
I'm looking forward for your Samsung roms.
I'd donate if they it was for CDMA based models (I dont have a Samsung phone a HTC but, a CDMA one). THey don't touch CDMA because they dont have phones and that's with HTC..
Verizon Trophy and the Sprint Arrive is what I am talking about...
Good luck on the quest...maybe someone will start one for us...
Edit: Maybe a few people have some used ones for sale, sending them 2 used ones over 1 new one would be more usefull on testing (incase they brick one in testing), Just a thought to help. As long as the phones work, are in good shape and are not blacklisted it should be fine for testing....Unless they said they only will take new ones for donation.
Just a thought....
I'm afraid we collect nothing at this rate
C'mon guys, don't be so cheap! I'm expecting xda members not a children/teens only with mom's birthday gift - fancy expensive handset...
As for adults - donating $5 - $10 is nothing, you've spent much more to pay your monthly bill or even usual tips to waiter in restaurant!
Lets appreciate Cotulla's hard work for community, don't be cheap!
yeeah and after Samsung only LG is missing ,waiting for DFT LG roms ^^ Are there som plans or have LG users no Luck ?
And Cotulla/DFT you re bringing back the wm feeling with your roms

Up. C'mon guys, we need another $100 - at least for one Focus for Cotulla!
Up again. Let's collect money at least for one Samsung Focus (will cost about $200 with shipping to Cotulla), developer can't do a hack without real hardware. Please, donate!
P.S. Sorry, guys, for reposting, but forum moderators are ignoring my requests to pin this topic to the top for a month Also it moved here, to "General" but seems like people here don't know Cotulla (and didn't appreciate his outstanding job!) and not interested in custom ROM's Most topics about how good/bad WP7 is, complete blah-blah-blah... But (I believe) with custom ROM's WP7 can beat Android/i-fancy-Phone etc.

Keep the good work up guys

To 'DEV' or not to 'DEV'.....

I just wanted to vent off about a trend that is starting to p*** me off greatly.
It is these so called 'Devs' that are 'cooking' ROM's and claiming to be Developers, then expect some form of payment for their 'work'.
Now before I get flamed, I am not talking about the recognised Developers on here who do some fantastic, complex work. I am quite willing and often do, donate as a token of my appreciation for their work and to help cover development costs.
I am talking the 'chancers' who take either a Stock ROM or AOSP (or indeed, another Dev's ROM), theme it a bit, add in some fixes and apps from other developers, then release it as a fantastically named ROM and ask numerous times in the first post for a donation.
This then leads to a thread full of posts asking the 'Dev' for fixes, who usually reply something like, "I'll look into it ", then wait for a real developer to make a fix elsewhere, and then include it in their ROM, inferring that they have fixed it.
I should state here that the tipping point for me today was a cooked ROM I saw, where the guy is not asking for donations per se, but has a 'wish list' on Amazon, a 'wish list' for f*** sake.
I know the Mods on this site have more than enough work on their hands, but couldn't we have a sort of two-tier system, whereby the submitted work could be scrutinized and a decision taken as to whether it has been 'cooked' or 'developed'. Then the person submitting could be advised as to whether they can call themselves a 'Chef' or a 'Dev'. Also some advice could be given about donations.........
lease report any abuse of the donation rules to us so we can deal with it appropriately.
Thankyou for raising some very valid points as well. Unfortunately though it's simply not viable to evaluate all releases.
Sent From My Fingers To Your Face......
Problem is you cant make it so only Recognized Devs can release ROMs either because there are so many good devs that are not recognized
Of course you are both correct. It would likely discourage people from trying to create ROM's and these guys (whether they cook or code) deserve all the plaudits they receive.
I should take a deep breath before sounding off .
That's what happens when you have to work over the holidays!

I saw that too. I think the only reason I didn't report it was because I was so flabbergasted! (Ask the mods, I'm not shy when it comes to reporting stuff )
The thing that really got me was that it was mostly stuff around the $40-$60 range, some more! If it were things like USB cables and screen protectors that were only a few quid a go then I could accept it, but not the stuff he was asking for.
Edit: Found it and reported it. Let the mods decide.
I never ask, in fact I'm dead against it. If I do something its for my phone. Of course I will share it, but I did it for me. A few people have asked so now I include a charity link in my work. That way I don't know who donates and I feel no obligation to them to do more, or edit it to there wants, also I might be doing some good in the world. I feel this is the way to go. I rarely donate for fear of abuse of the system. And yeah, I recently saw a guy post a unworking ics port. Let other guys in the forum fix then ask for donations.

If you truly want this to be your flagship phone that turns the companys smartphone sales around, you better unlock the bootloader.
Ive already seen hundreds of people turn down this awesome phone because of the locked bootloader. you are severly limiting your audiance. I think this decision is a very bad one.
No on is interested in you guys limiting what we can or cant do with our property and or waiting for you to roll out updates. especially when we could just do it ourself.
From what i can tell, you have nothing to gain by having a locked bootloader. the only thing it does is make us wait for updates, ie newer versions of android software. which might i remind you is has been out for sometime. why should we have to wait for yall to make it an update?
Unlocking the bootloader also would relive some of the mass emails im sure you get about "when the next update is comming out"
Please, Please concider this. it would truly make the optimus g a great phone
I doubt that LG cares about a small, handful of people that want to unlock the phone. But don't worry, the bootloader will be unlocked *very* soon thanks to the devs
I think the first step would be making sure your email at least sounds professional...all those typos notwithstanding (which look awful btw), the email comes off as a rant from an angry, uneducated customer.
They won't budge if their complaint emails all sound like yours, no offense.

@squshy - none taken....yeah...i probably should have spell checked it, lol
despite how my email or others may sound, they really only have two choices. either unlock the bootloader or get their software hacked.
either is fine with me.
squshy - "They won't budge if their complaint emails all sound like yours, no offense. "
Not sure on that one. on one hand asking nicely may help .....or get totally disregarded. on the other hand if they get a bunch of angry customers asking to unlock it, they probably will.
Ive seen things like this go one way or the other very easily.
However as mentioned, the devs will have this worked out soon enough

[Q] Project: DroidSourced

Hi guys,
I have received multiple requests to support and create rom's and firmware guides for the M8 (and other phones but the M8 was the top requested).
Background: As many of you may know, I make stock based rom's and guides to simplify things for new and advanced users alike. It's all about information consolidation while keeping things up to date. I currently support the N5 and the HTC One M7.
After doing this for a few years now... I have come to realize that people really appreciate this unfortunately, I cannot support some devices (or only support them in a very limited manner) since I do not have the hardware to work with. My philosophy is not to post anything unless it has been tried and tested thoroughly by me - this makes sure that everything works!
All this led to idea the idea I had for Project-DroidSourced
It's pretty simple:
- The community pitches in (kickstarter-like) to collect funds for the device they want supported
- We purchase the device using the crowd sourced funds - all receipts and pictures of bought items will be shared publicly
- The purchased device is used as the testing bed for rom, firmwares, bootloader unlocks or guides (depending on what is being developed/supported)
- Finally, the device is GIVEN AWAY back to the community as a raffle/contest after a period of time (likely near the end of the device's yearly cycle).
Note:
- I am not doing this for any monetary gain myself. I do not accept "donations" for what I do - knowledge should be free and should be shared.
- This is just an idea I had seeing a large community interest from my previous work - no need to take anything negatively.
This is the first place I am sharing this idea - and the M8 will be the first device in this program if there is interest/uptake.
Feel free to ask any questions or share ideas.
Thanks
Where I think it could work, but you'd have to have like 1 master paypal account [one you create] in this scenario.
Secondly, you'd have to keep a book, xcel sheet, to basically keep tabs on the money supported, and then tell people, when you spend their funds, to what device it went to. It'd be a self kept treasury log. Additionally, perhaps use a public google drive file so it can be viewed at any time. I say view only so it isn't tampered with, but the transparency is there. Then again, that part would have to voted on as people may not want their names | contributions, even if by xda name.
Lastly, you'd have to figure a way to give it away randomly, or give the device randomly to the people's funds that went towards that particular device.
It's not a bad idea, but with the above, I think it could be managed correctly.

Agreed with all those comments. Each supported device would have an upper donation limit and would be it's own sub project.
A public excel sheet with donation amounts/users would also be setup. I want to keep things transparent.
I am also thinking of building a team for this so we can cover a larger range of devices also could lead to a ROM series

Well, when you say upper limit, I think it should be explicitly stated that it'd be a tiered system [regarding 'eligibility' for raffle device]. Cause i could see some quick mutinies when a guy who gave 1$ gets a device and a guy who gave 50$ didn't get anything. Again, not saying it's shady, but just to clear up front.
Regarding teams, I think that would be required, but a dev team member shouldn't be entered to win the same device they work on, cause it may same they are getting special treatment.

Yes, all great points. Noted and agreed.
What I meant by upper limit was the total amount donated (to cover the device). Users are free to donate as they see fit.

Ah well of course.
Though i think you could treat the pot as a 2 for 1:
- [some] people will donate to a specific device, which their funds will go towards it
- others will donate just blindly, not caring; they get notified prior to, to take care of the remaining funds
That way you'd be almost guaranteed every device could be funded, and all relevant parties viable to get it.
Also, i'm heading out; I'll be back later when it's not now. Take care

I think its a great idea. There's nothing more comforting than seeing your new phone now has a ROM developed by somebody you've come to trust. If I bought a phone and saw the right developers (including you) asking for money to buy a dev device to speed up the development process, I'd definitely be willing to send $10/$20 dollars to ensure my new phone has quality support. Thirty guys per phone agree in principle at $20 a piece, that's $600 that can buy the phone to start development.
I'd suggest getting flar2 to mirror his ElementalX kernel to any ROM you develop by also raising enough money for him to support the phone as well. This is just my opinion for kernel support. Many android users like kernel options, especially stable options.

Verizon Note 4 Rooted!! Check description

As I was searching the Internet today I came across this! Can anyone verify it??

For some reason I have my doubts about this. Not just that, but there is no link anywhere, just screenshots, which can be easily faked. This kind of thing happens in the gaming console arena all the time. People just do it for attention. Until a recognized developer we KNOW (on here preferrably......hsbadr????) can confirm this, Im going to rule it as fake.

Although, he has some petty good video of startup, reboot, and maintaining root...as well as showing root checker etc. so time will tell.
The guys a FRAUD. The XDA mods locked down his thread cause he was posting lies about permanent root which he willfully failed to show verity upon request. He is only looking for attention by means of "Thanks." pay him no attention. He's a troll. lol

This looks like a waste of time...delete.
So there is no reliable system yet to root the Note 4?

Agreed. I don't understand why everyone is so uppity. What's the harm in just being patient and having a "wait and see" attitude, instead of calling him a fraud and dropping the ban hammer just because he hasn't revealed details yet. Unless we know for certain that he hasn't achieved root, then I don't think we should push him away, even if we don't like his methods. Keep in mind that there is a language barrier here also, so there may be some misunderstanding.
He already said many times he wasn't going to release it. He said it would hurt his business and Samsung would patch it.
Which translates to I've found something that will work on many Samsung devices so if I release it I won't be able to use it to make money in my business, because having a solution for only the Verizon note 4 is not going to do his business much good as he is from outside US.

All you have to do is look at his past post. He did the same thing with an LG device. Posting he has achieved root when he had not. When the mods finally asked him to provide proof he declined to answer. When he's been contacted on his site, his number, etc, etc, he declines to answer the question and left the LG community it's in a complete disarray. We don't need people posting root achieved notices just to get their thanks scores higher. The Note 4 community it's has been thru enough already. And if it was going to hurt his business to release the method, then why release I've achieved root. No thanks, the guys a complete fraud.
I can appreciate that reasoning, thanks.
Here a genuine question, not trying to be argumentative:
How is this situation with vnmobile different than the video posted showing the Galaxy S5 bootloader unlock?
http://www.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5-bootloader-has-been-unlocked/
It appears that this dev (beaups) does not plan to release his methods either, yet he is not treated with the same disdain as vnmobile. Granted it appears that beaups has earned respect previously, but at the end of the day the same question remains: what is the purpose of sharing the video?
This guy definitely a fraud. His real name is Ngoc Vu and he's running a business selling tech equipments in Vietnam. Let me throw a few things on the table here.
1) Language barrier issue - Nope I speak his language and had visit his website and his facebood page. Just full of shi...
2)Hurt his business if he released the root fix? Another bull sh... 2 ways he could make money. a) release the fix and collect over 20k cash from XDA b) Offer a service to root the phone with a fee. Guess what? none existed.
Summary - he just want to drive traffic to his web site, and make his business more visible to the world specially XDA where everyone interested in cell phone/tablet and electronic equipments. Case closed!
i just saw this post. And i confirmed he is a Vietnamese guys. like me. ^^
But i am so surprise, because he used the Booloader and ROM from "hsbadr" of XDA forum.
