Audio stuttering at the end of each track - Windows Phone 7 General

Hey all,
got my Omnia 7 the other day and so far its definitely made me drop my iPhone 4, even with all its apps.
that being said the audio is making me second guess that decision. Each track played, the last 10 seconds or so stutter. This is tracks on the actual device and not coming streaming zune marketplace.
This is every track and its more than annoying.
not sure if this is omnia specific or windows phone 7 OS issue.
anyways, besides that little hurdle im very happy with it so far, the omnia comes highly recommended from me besides a couple of bizzare hardware decisions. ( sync/charge port on the top of the device being a notable stupid decision.
hopefully someone can help but feel free to ask any other windows 7 phone / omnia based q's.

did you use zune to pull the iTunes music? maybe try ripping from a cd and then loading it to zune? maybe also try changing the quality of the audio up a bit and get it to reconvert? worst comes to worst... try a hard reset?

the music is a mix of ripped cd's and music bought using a zune pass direct from Zune, I can't see it being the source material. More the player at fault.
I will try a hard reset when im at home and can back everything up.
Thanks for your answers.

hi
i have a htc 7 mozart and have a little problem with sounds as well. more often than not when i get a text come through its like the sound stutters for about 1/2 second then carries on and may play a couple of notes. i contacted htc and they said and i quote "try changing the tone. if the phone still sounds like its juddering/skipping. there maybe an issue. but it could just be the way the tone works. "
Now this has done nothing at all but i cant see there is a hardware fault as its only when a sms comes in that is the problem.

the only issue i have is a small pause at the end of each track, after the brilliance of the zune hd (whoever stole it should burn) i expected more esp as they said it was full zune experiences yet there is also no artist bio (i used to love reading them)

the gapless playing is an issue but not a massive one for me.
losing bio and in particular "similar artists" is really annoying, was a great way to find artists you hadnt previously heard of.
this stuttering is starting to annoy me, pulling the battery and restarting seemed to have resolved the issue but then every now and again it will happen.

I'm looking at an artist bio on my phone right now. When you select an artist, the "tabs" should be albums -> songs -> bio. Perhaps its just there because I am using a Zune Pass trial?

Is the audio/video in sync?

I'd be grateful if a few folk could try the attached (very short) video clip on the Desire and tell me if the video and audio are in sync - watch the drumsticks!
This clip does not play in sync on the HD2, but it is perfect on a PC or a Touch HD so there's no reason for it to play out of sync and there must be some sort of flaw with the HD2. It doesn't seem to matter what player is used. Someone suggested it might be a Snapdragon chipset issue, hence the reason for my posting in the Desire forum.
Please let me know how it plays on the Desire - thank you.

The video really isn't long enough for me to tell properly whether it is in sync completely, even when watching the drumsticks. You need something more substantial to properly notice whether it is out of sync, not something that ends in 6 seconds.
It does look out of sync to me but as has been said, it's not really long enough to be sure.
Thanks for having a look - I appreciate your responses.
If that first video was too short then how about the following? It's a direct download from YouTube, no conversion on my part. Again it plays fine on the PC but is slightly out of sync on the HD2. The audio delay is small, and probably less noticeable than the original video, but it's definitely there, at least on my HD2. If he was just talking and not playing the drums you wouldn't notice it.
So is this also slightly out of sync on the Desire? If so, this is looking like it could be a Snapdragon chipset issue.
Second clip totally out of sync on my desire, haven't looked at the first.
Seems video on these things is not good at all.
Guys, i have to say I'm really worried about this issue. I super problem for me and for the device itself. I strongly suspect it's Snapdragon. This is why:
I have a huge video collection, being an iPhone and iTunes user. I have tried many formats before but today I have an optimized one - the Handbrake "Universal" profile is marvelous. It looks great for TV (using AppleTV or iPhone out), great on portable devices and size is good not to take much space. I can use these files in ANY device: PC, Mac, iPhone (even 2G), PSP, PS3, Zune HD, HTC Hero etc and all can play just fine, no issues at all. Perfect. Even some iTunes videos non-protected is also playable - encoded by Apple, not me.
But on the Desire, all of them has video/audio out of sync. Some more than others, but all of them. And to prove it's not the files, ALL youtube videos have same issue. Want another proof?
I used same files and tests on the XPERIA X10, also Snapdragon. Guess what? Out of sync. I don't want to believe, but adding to HD2, we have 3 different phones, 3 different OS (Android 1.6 on X10, 2.1 on Desire), 2 different manufacturers, ONE common chipset -Snapdragon - same problem.
I sincerely hope HTC can fix this with a software update (even if they have to add audio offset to video playback, I don't care), or else it will be the biggest flaw I've seen in a PERFECT device - the Desire is everything I ever wanted an iPhone to be. But it needs to simply play videos
I sent an email to HTC telling this whole story, if there is a reply I'll post. Crossing fingers, because if I have to return this phone I'll cry.
I emailed HTC about this issue several days ago and still not had a response.
Just noticed http://www.htc.com/uk/support.aspx no longer has a link to contact support by email or phone which was there about 3 hours ago when I checked. http://www.htc.com/europe/support.aspx support link is still available, just not on the uk site, only on the europe one, my mistake.
I`ve had lip sync problems when converting via handbrake, I`ve also tried a few other programs for converting and the lip sync problem went away. Have you tried red kawa for example?
But yes its strange that its fine on a pc and not on the desire.
Just got a reply from HTC re video/audio sync issues, looks like they are saying there is no problem.
Thank you for contacting our Customer Support Center. We are dedicated to providing you with the best quality service and answering all of your questions and concerns.
In regards to video sync playback, we can help you with that.
We performed a test in our HTC desire and there is no fault while playing the videos. This could be a software issue or bug in the OS and we recommend to perform a hard reset on it(make sure to back up all your data before the reset) if this doesn't work then contact us and we will book in your device to be repaired. HTC Desire with snapdragon processor was highly tested to play videos or and other functions from the OS.
I hope that this resolves your query and thank you for contacting HTC.

Got the same issue on my HTC Legend. Tried a bunch of different encoders, encoding settings, video players and videofiles - no difference. There is also a strange effect - if you watch a video and then rewind back a bit, it kinda starts looking in sync
And it's exactly the same situation with the built-in YouTube app.
BTW, if I remember correctly, Legend doesn't have Snapdragon.
What about hard reset? Have you actually tried it? Anyway, please inform if you find a solution.
Xperia X10 Delay
When I playback video on my computer that was recorded on my Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 (SO-01B), there is a delay between audio and video of approximately 7 frames worth of NTSC video (the audo is delayed). (Note, I converted the MP4 files to avi files to identify the delay, the delay was present in the original MP4 and the converted avi.)
Further, I cannot get any drum or piano app to play without a noticeable delay. The screen graphics reflect my finger taps, but the corresponding sound is not played through the speakers until a short delay has passed. Seems like the processor cannot keep up?
Similar issues getting the camera to start or switching between video and still cameras. Or stuttering when Timescape or MediaScape launch.
This is my second device from DoCoMo. It appears to be a hardware issue. Very frustrating.
Anyone else having similar issues? This forum is the first I've come across with anything remotely similar to the issues I have experienced.

Gapless playback in Zune??

Hi all
Had an HD7 for the last week, great phone. I've found a couple of little bugs (eg if your browsing in IE and go back to the home tab, use some other apps then go back to IE, theres no way of going back in the browser as the back button just takes you back to the home page or previous app?)
Anyway, onto my question, does the Zune player on the phone support gapless playback of tracks? I've got a lot of albums of live concerts etc that would normally playback seemlessly on my old iPhone but have gaps when played on the Zune. Couldnt find any options anywhere to change it. Does anyone know if this is supported or not?
Thanks!
I know gapless is supported on the ZuneHD. But I know even then some people had issues in getting it to work, and it is all based on how your albums are tagged in the ID3. Once I get my HD7 I can confirm if albums that played fine gapless on the ZuneHD do so on the HD7 and i'll inspect the ID3 to figure out what the appropriate tags are.
Thanks! All my music is imported into Zune from iTunes so maybe iTunes hasn't tagged the music properly? Or Zune can't read the itunes tags?
Gapless works on Zune HD as long as there is no DRM...thus, if you bring your own tracks with no DRM, gapless works perfectly...however, if you have a zune pass, funny enough, gapless does not work...
This is a known issue for many months but MS has no fixed it so far...(people seemed more upset at the lack of apps for the Zune HD than fixing core music related issues)...
Thanks. I seem to get this from my own ripped CD's as well as music bought from iTunes and music from my Zune subscription.
I might try re-ripping one of my CD's in Zune and see if it works.
Gapless playback seems to be a massive missing feature of an audio device?!
A big one for me is this. I've got 200 or so live/dj mix albums, so not having this feature has pretty much made my new HD7 worthless to me.
All my music is in .M4A format and was ripped/converted in iTunes. I also tried ripping a mix CD to .MP3 format, but got the same result.
I just don't understand why MS haven't implemented it. If there are no plans to add this, then my HD7 will have to be returned.
I know this is an old thread, but I've noticed something when using bluetooth and my music...
I use my HD2 (WinMo7) when I'm down the gym and a lot of my mix tracks often jump at the mix point, some even have some stuttering...
However I've noticed that when I'm streaming via bluetooth to my car stereo, the same tracks don't jump or stutter and play virtually continous. There is only the odd tiny space on some tracks...
Beatles USB gapless
My Beatles, Abbey Road Remastered 2nd side sounds great on Zune on WP7. Very slight breaks between songs, but nothing objectionable to me.
Make sure that when you select the music, you select the Play All or Play Album selection. Don't try to play the 1st track and expect things to go uninterrupted.
Definitely the Abbey Road playback is different than the first side, which has song-to-song gaps.
Enjoy Windows Phone 7!
-e
I've been digging around recently in trying to get some gapless in WP7.
I then finally notice that the Zune PC software doesn't even do gapless! The gap is shorter, I suspect due to the more powerful hardware, but it's still not gapless.
Windows Media Player seems to emit a slight click
Winamp and Foobar both seamlessly transition to the next song.
But, back to WP7. It's now apparent that either MS needs to fix this (they didn't in Mango, so they probably won't for a while, if at all), or a third party app that doesn't use Zune could be created, (or ported).

Playing music on the Wildfire S

Hello, long time WFS owner, first time poster on this site.
Ever since I've owned the Wildfire, I've been rather perplexed by the music it gives me. The sound quality itself seems decent, but the controls are... odd. Almost every time I press play the music starts, then after around 3 seconds there's a notable pause, before it starts up again. It's not a big deal, but it makes me wonder whether this is a normal thing on this handheld, or if it's a problem with the SD card I'm using. I managed to get a 32GB class 10 micro SD on sale, so I hope nothing's wrong with it. It doesn't seem to miss-handle any other files I put on it (except for some pictures that turn all black sometimes...)
I tried to use some alternatives like Player Pro or Power Amp, but these actually made the problem far worse or introduced all sorts of new bugs. On P.P. instead of a gap of silence at 3 seconds I get this high-pitched screech. Once the music starts playing it's OK, it doesn't do it at the beginning of every song, just occasionally (and certainly more often than I would like) when I hit the play button and start the music. Another thing both P.P. and P.A. suffer from is buggy lock screens and buggy screen rotations. I remember both crashing a lot while music was playing when all I would do is turn the phone on it's side.
Has anyone else noticed problems like this?

I have no problem with any music player,it must be something wrong with your card.I still use the 2 GB stock card. For the best sound quality use PowerAMP,much better than stock player. And also better headset would be recomended.
i use poweramp and have no problems.
also, if you change the settings to "no fading" under the audio engine settings, change buffer size to "huge(+750ms)", and keep audio priority at "+2", you can get gapless playback on standard mp3 files most of the time....occassionally you'll still get that slight blip between tracks, but it's way better than anything else i've tried without having to re-rip everything to a totally different format. (p.s. don't set it to "crossfade" or "cut silence", as i've found this makes it worse for some reason).
i used to hear what i think you're describing as a "screech" sound, i think it sounds more like you can hear the processor working between loading songs or something, but to be honest, i only ever heard it between really quiet song endings/beginnings and only on the stock headset, while listening in my totally silent room, at night...
currently using a cheap-as-chips smartphone headset adapter/mic connected to my KOSS pathfinder "plug" style headphones, using the EQ settings of PowerAmp, and it sounds amazing. The headphones bock out all outside noise, and give plenty of bass and still great mids and highs. to be honest, this is the best setup i've heard on a phone, if you need somethign better, you'd have to get a standalone mp3 player (and this sounds better than most of those, without going for somethign that's speficically designed for high quality audio, as opposed to some cheap and cheerful generic mp3).
No, it's not usual, you should uninstall your player and maybe download another one, if all your mp3 files have this problem then it mustn't be the music files.
And Set your phone back to factory spec is the last choice

It's not really a gap problem, and I personally like gaps between my songs. I often listen to songs on shuffle and it can be a little distracting when it seamlessly switches from soft classical to System of a Down rocking hard, lol. But yeah, it's really: The song starts, enough of it playing that I can recognize which song it is, awkward 2-3 second pause of absolute silence, then it picks up again. Not every time I start enough, but it does it enough for me to consider it a recurring problem.
All I can do is go buy a new micro-SD card I guess... I lent the stock 2 GB one that came with the device to a friend, so I can't exactly use that. I swear, all these bugs, combined with the fact that this thing seems impossible to Root (I have a GSM model) makes me sorely tempted to crawl back to iOS for my next model. I just with the iPhones didn't have such puny screens...
My old wfs use to do the same thing, play music for 10 secounds or so and then stop, idk why it did that but that phone was a problem, everytime I hung up from a call the screen would turn off for 3 mins everytime and the touch screen never works, so some phones do it and dont...but I got a new one and I love it Works great
HTC Wildfire S (VM) "s-off" "rooted" Stock Rom

[Q] Zune replacement?

My zune is on its way out with the audio jack starting to give me problems. seeing as i dont have the skills to repair it myself I was hoping to use a family members upgrade who doesn't want a new phone to grab this phone. From a quick play through with it the device feels pretty close to the zune music player. Can anyone tell me more about it as a media player? Also if i were to leave it in airplane mode what could i expect on battery life.

I have the weak but functional HTC Trophy for work because I wanted to learn Windows Phone 7 but not ready to give up Android. It has the Zune player on it but I can honestly say it is not a replacement. For one, we are limited to 16 Gig storage, so you for sure can sync more music than that. And as far as I know, you cannot make playlists with streaming ZunePass music. Plus, I miss the scrolling text, time, etc information as a song is playing like the ZuneHD does.

I'm not sure how you're using the phone for music, but when I go to play a song it shows me album art, time lapsed and time remaining as well as the time of day at top-right of the screen.
I have plenty of playlists, some auto and some not, that include zune pass music and they all work just fine.
I had the old Zune 120GB model and while it had more space I don't know anyone who actually needs 600 hours of music with them at all times, the 16GB has suited me just fine I have a ton of my favorite tracks as well as video/audio podcasts that I take to work with me at all times, it's great.

I was speaking specifically how it will cycle through picture(s) of a singer/band, with the letters going across the screeen, etc. The Zune player on a Windows Phone will not do that.
How can you make a playlist specifically for ZunePass streaming on the Windows Phone Zune player?
Thanks!

Odd bluetooth behavior since updatin to android 9

I've been experience a few issues with the new update. One of them, which is more a nuisance than anything, is my bluetooth connection to my car. It's a 2015 Mustang with MyFord Touch. The phone is a galaxy S8+. About 1/3 of the time when I start the car, the phone shows up named a bunch of random characters, instead of Galaxy S8+. Not a huge deal. My music player starts automatically (even if I close it, and kill the process). The thing that's weird is that the audio is kind of hollow sounding when it starts up UNTIL I turn on the phones display, then it kicks into a fuller sound. It's never done this before. Not only that, but it decides when it wants to display track information from Samsung music player only a small portion of the time.
If I'm playing music through Amazon Music, it updates the track information, no problem. If I switch to Samsung's music player, it just displays the last track I played on Amazon music, and never changes. If I start the car with the music player going, it won't update track information until it gets to the next song, and even that is spotty.
Aside from these issues, and the issues I'm having with the default browser, I think it's a pretty good update. But this music thing is really bugging me. For the record, I've tried rebooting the phone. I've tried changing through the AVRCP versions in the developer options, I've toggled Dolby Atmos on and off, changed the sample rate, channels, etc. Nothing seems to be affecting this problem.
On a side note, how do I close the music player so it doesn't automatically start playing when connected to bluetooth?
Thanks in advance. If this doesn't belong here, let me know.

Did you ever try to update your car's firmware or going to your dealer and ask for it? I think it's because Android 9 is "too new" for your car
I updated to the latest firmware about 6 months ago. No new updates since then. It would be kinda bogus if android 9 made a 4 year old car obsolete, but i suppose it's possible.

It could be possible that you have to expect for a new car firmware or ask to your device forum if anyone else have your same problem with android auto
