I've got a UK Touch Pro 2 from Orange with the official latest Windows 6.1 (!) ROM on it, and transferred about 10 songs from itunes onto it earlier. So far, so good.
I then decided actually I don't wat those songs, so I managed to delete them from the storage card, but they're all still showing up on the 'Now Playing' list along with little exclamation marks as if to say it (obviously) can't find them any more.
Does anyone know how I can clear this list??
Many thanks!
Hi --
I've been spending a lot (read "too much") time with the TF3D audio app recently, loading lots of music, so I have experience with your issue.
Basically, the Now Playing list will not reset until you "make" a new one, i.e. until you choose to play something else and thus have something else "Now Playing." Strange, but that's how it works...
The easiest way is to go into the Library, and choose one of the following that DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY OF THE DELETED SONGS: 1) an album; 2) a playlist; or 3) an artist. Then select any song from that category. The music player should now bring you back to the Music tab home screen, and you'll notice that only the songs from that category will be in Now Playing. When you go back into the Library the deleted song listings should now be gone completely.
Thanks jasmithers, a very useful tip - I shall give it a try!
The Touchflo music appears to be quite worthless. I cannot get the app to identify any artists, albums, genres, etc. I have approx 1400 songs in the sd card and it finds nothing.

If you mean that the tracks don't show up at all, perhaps they are in a DRM format, e.g. iTunes' .aac, that the music player can't read?
If you mean that the tracks show up but the artist/album/genre ID doesn't show, perhaps the data hasn't been entered into the tracks? On your computer, right-click on one of your music files, choose "Properties," and see if it brings up any info. If not, you can manually enter it (although it's a time-intensive process).
The TF3D music player keeps losing the indexed list of songs by artists, albums, genres. I will go to Winmo media player and scan for songs. The TF3D music player uses the scanned list from media player but it seems to lose the list after some action that I have not identified. Should not be this difficult.
Hi folks,
in videos I've seen phones that have artist pictures on their Zune livetile and in the music hub.
I have my phone for a week now and listening to music every day but the live-tile always stays the standard zune-logo and the hub background is only black.
Is this because I have no Zune pass and just listening to music I transferred via Zune? Or is it because Zune doesn't want to show faces of Death Metal bands? What am I doing wrong? Data connection is always on, location services are allowed...I don't know what else I could try.
It's because you're in a country where Zune Pass isn't supported, basically if you want it you have to hard reset the phone and use an account with US/UK details
You don't need the Zune Pass.
I don't have it and the Music Live Tile works fine.
At least does Zune display the artist in the background?

No, not even a artist's photo in the music hub. Nothing.
But all my music is perfectly tagged (with Windows7 Media Center) and has album cover pictures. Zune is allowed to add missing information, so everything should be fine.
Maybe I should try to set to "overwrite all song information" but I fear that my whole music database will get wrong genre information (or worse) then.
Seems to be hit and miss this. Will work for me with some artists and not others.
Couple of things that may help. Make sure under settings/applications/music & Video the connect to Zune is switched on and also doing the find album info on Zune on the PC while phone is connected.

Seems to be
I tried very commercial music now (Linkin Park), updated the whole album online via Zune and I still don't get pictures.
It doesn't matter much, I was just wondering. Maybe the pictures are coming anytime
I haven't tested this. Here is how my library started and maybe why my tile has artist pictures..
I switched from itunes to zune in advance of WP7s launch. When I did that I realized Zune went out and grabbed all the artist artwork and images, which I thought rocked! I have looked at my files and I don't see where they store this extra artwork, must be in c:\program files\zune or something.
Now when I transferred these albums / songs over to my Focus, all that extra artwork came with. So maybe look at the music in Zune on a PC and see if you can tag / download the artist info from the net (through the software) then copy it over.
I have not tested this with a song that didn't come from my PC first.
I think it just varies.
Works for some bands and not for others.
For instance, Nightwish will show up, but Dream Theater doesn't, even though they're more well known.
What annoys me though is when they use a low-resolution image for the Zune player background, it ends up looking very pixely. Funeral For A Friend for instance.
I posted this in the other thread ages ago, but I worked out how to get this to work.
1) Play your song
2) Click on the artist while it's playing
3) Press the double down arrow under Marketplace
IF your artist is tagged with the right name AND the artist has a picture (and most do) then this process will store the image to the associated artist and the picture will display anytime you listen to a song by the artist.

Again, I've found this to be hit and miss.
It's strange, this method worked for me updating Zero 7 but Ocean Colour Scene, James and Groove Armada, who are more well known won't play ball!!
OCS and James, who have tons of albums available for download through Zune, don't have a pic under "artist" in the marketplace tho...I wonder if thats the problem. (edit - just re-read your post and this could be the problem..although these artists are very well known!)
Groove armada does and shows when I'm streaming Zune marketplace but I can't get it to show when playing Groove Armada from "my collection"??

That could be the problem for OCS and James, for Groove Armada it might be because of your tagging. It is a bit strange the artists the do and don't have... here's a list of artists on my device that DON'T have bg images:
- B.o.B (because the Marketplace tags it as BoB)
- Beyonce (because I'm missing the accent on the e)
- Bobby Brown
- Cheryl Cole (No image available, which is strange because she was artist of the week in the marketplace... with a marketplace bg image)
- Chris Brown (no image avaliable)
- Eazy-E (no image avaliable)
- Far East Movement (no image avaliable)
- Gwen Stefani (no image avaliable)
- Ice Cube (No idea why this doesn't work)
- M.I.A. (again probably something to do with the .'s)
- MArio (no image avaliable)
- Mario Winans (no image avaliable)
- Stromae (no image avaliable)

I noticed the same, with the same exact bands.
Also I can't have any picture of Sparklehorse, even if this band is also well known. What happens?
Regarding The Clientele, it's weird: I can see the artist picture in the background when I click on the Artist name. But the artist picture disappears when the track is played.
Also I stopped trying to update my album infos with the ones suggested by Zune, because often they were wrong, and it messed up everything in my library. For instance Zune replaced all my "(smog)" albums by "Bill Callahan". Sorry, but Smog is Smog and Bill Callahan is Bill Callahan.
Anyway, Zune really need to be improved. The display ot the artists in the background is really erratic and random. Totally not reliable.
Okay, I know found out something new. Since I am not having a Zune pass I never used it to search music. But the point is, I can't even search for music -the option simply isn't there.
If I press the search button inside the music hub, I just can search the marketplace for apps -not music.
Then I tried at my desktop computer. It's the same thing, I just can search and download apps and movies -no music possible, there isn't even an option for this.
So I think it's regarding the country I'm living in (Austria) that there is no such option or it could be because I don't have a credit card added to Zune so the option to search for music simply is blanked?

Yeah, I've read it...but I wasn't aware that this means that I don't even have the possibility to search for music.
It's strange that I cannot use the basic functions of Zune because I am living in Austria and my neighbors in Germany, with the same language and all, can use it
It's okay for me, if that is the reason I'm sure MS will get things straight in future. Now that Zune becomes popular they will set it up for Austria too anytime
For NOISIA it is showing RBL Posse..any help plz...Im happy with NO picture, but WRONG picture...NOOOO..plz help me...i tried deleting the song and then pasting it again...no use..
Look for a program called "Zune Social Tagger", there's a thread here with a link but Google might be easier.
It will scan your library and match songs with their equivalent on the marketplace. That should give you most of the artist backgrounds available on Zune.

We've been waiting for the same thing since the launch of Zune. Don't think it's coming anytime soon.
Deactivate Zune live-tile?
Hello, I have the exact opposite problem:
I was happy with the Zune-tile showing nothing but the Zune logo.
But now I made the "mistake" of downloading my first song over Marketplace directly on the phone, a song from Simon + Garfunkel. I never downloaded music on marketplace before, I use iTunes as a Macbook user.
Now the F***ING Windows Phone shows ALWAYS the faces of Simon + Garfunkel on the Zune live tile! Doesn't matter, which band I listen to, even podcasts... always the Zune live tile & the Zune main menu has this arrogant looking faces on them.... it drives me nuts!!
I do not want to replace it with another artist picture. I listen to a lot of German local bands about which Zune doesn't even know and thus has no artist picture of them and I don't want it to show only the pictures of the "famous" bands in my playlists. Either all bands or none of them, which in my case means: none of them. Thus I want only the Zune logo on the tile, please, just how it was before I made the mistake of downloading a song from marketplace!
I even de-activitaded the "connect with Zune" in the Settings. No change at all!
How can I delete it and make it show NO Live tile, but only the good old Zune logo again?
Please help, I got a Mac, is there any chance to do this without Windows?
Is there really no other way than a clean install?
Its becouse zune isent suported in your region, as it was reporter above here..
I live in Norway and i did used to use my phone with this region(norway) and it never displayed anny picture anly the album art! not the backround! so i did reset it and used the US region and now all my suported artist from zune displayes the backround image =)
Alright, so this has been bothering me first some time now.
When I go to my music app, I've noticed a bunch of my songs being labeled under "Unknown Artists".
Now, it never use to do this so I don't really understand how it happened.
I checked my SD card and everything in Root Explorer to see if there was any data corruption, but everything looks normal.
Has anyone had this problem before? What would you guys recommend? Thanks!
Another weird thing: I try to go to change the tags so I can put in the correct artist, but the Tag already shows the correct artist. The library just displays it as "Unknown Artists"
This has appeared on multiple music apps btw
The tags on the song aren't done correctly. Happens a lot on torrented music.
Download any of the countless album art/ artist finder apps and fix it.

Well, I don't know. The tags USED to work, and app finders are led to believe the tags are correct except in any Music App.
I'm having the same problems. I spent a few hours making sure all the tags were right using media monkey and still, my epic does not pick up the artists. picks up album art, albums, song names just fine. I think it may have something to do with iTunes. I used iTunes and converted all my music to m4a's (iTunes AAC format) and I read somewhere else that the android uses ID3v2 tags? Correct me if I'm wrong but thats the next step for me... converting everything to ID3v2 tags (if they aren't the same that is).
EDIT: Yes. I just converted one artist from .m4a (aac) to a .mp3 using iTunes and that solved it for me; that band now shows up under the Artists and not under Unknown. Hope this helps others.
If you need help I can post more.
More proof that ITunes is the Devil...?
I'm curious what the general consensus seems to be on WP7 users being forced to use the Zune software (as opposed to whatever they currently use on their computer, such as itunes). Do you think this creates an obstacle that may prevent some potential WP users from buying a WP7 device?
Zune software, for me, has been pretty buggy, sluggish, and problematic. The microsoft zune website only installs the 32 bit version - there's no option for the 64 bit version. I'm not sure if that's the reason for the app running so lamely on my computer and sucking up 20% of my i5 cpu.
Also, using the Zune software requires you not only to reorganize your music library, but to re-rate everything differently due to it having a completely different and limited 'ratings' system.
If Microsoft is interested in making things easy to use, adapting to their software should be as easy as possible. Zune is too big a change from the big music players currently being used by almost everyone.
Zune has been the best transition I've made in a long time. Windows media player is buggy and kinda does what it want, iOS is ram-hungry and too... Apple... i don't know how else to put it. Zune as a whole has been a clean transition and the first music player that almost seems like it knows me.
The transition hasn't been hard for me neither. But my music library is only around 7 gigs big.
My problems with the zune software are the following:
- Autoplaylists not as robust as in itunes. Cannot organize to your liking (only by some of their options).
- Autoplaylists refresh visually (they flicker every 5-6 seconds) and if you scroll down too far in a playlist, items appear as "not found" until the playlist refreshes itself and finds the files. This may sound confusing, but I'm basically saying this: Autoplaylists are very buggy.
-Uncustomizable UI (big fonts, lots of unused space, tons of marketplace links hogging up space).
-App takes up around 170mb, compared to 80mb for itunes. It also hogs your cpu (my i5 is at 15-20%, no matter what 'display' setting I have enabled)
-Cannot sync with anything but a zune or WP. Now that zune is discontinued, this software is officially only good for windows phones.
-Cannot tweak playback volume of individual songs, like you can in itunes.
-Cannot set start/end points, like you can in itunes.
-Cannot edit MANY id3 tag fields, such as comments.
-UI is sluggish compared to the basic text-based itunes UI.
-No global hotkeys - aside from next, previous, and play/pause, there are no shortcuts you can hit when the app is not in focus (such as change media player volume, fastforward, etc).
-When minimized, app toolbar flickers between song name, artist, and album. This is distracting. It should simply display the song title in the toolbar, and thats it. No blinking please.
-No minimize to notification area feature.
-Scrolling up and down too fast or too far is slow and stuttery. I've tried this on different computers that are more powerful and this is just how it is.
-The rating system.
-Disliked songs shouldn't play in a mix unless you manually click them (similarly to unchecked songs in itunes).
-Liked and 'unrated' songs are considered the two positive ratings, while dislike is the negative rating. this is weird but fine. However, if you sort songs by 'rating', it sorts Liked->Disliked->Unrated. What sense does this make?
-The 'check for updates' button doesnt work. Sends me an error. I've reinstalled the app twice now.
-Cannot show date of song, date added, etc columns in ANY of the apps views, other than the 'songs' view. Really irritating. You cant change the order of columns in anything other than 'song' view as well.
This probably isn't the place for this, but thought I'd flesh out why Zune isn't ready to be a proprietary app for a leading smartphone. Zune fans may put up with this, the same way itunes fans put up with itunes on Windows. But the masses won't.
Itunes works great on macs. Zune should work great on Windows. Instead, it feels like I'm using a flash app on a website.

I am guessing you are not a Zune pass user... Cosif u use zunepass you will never feel the need to edit id3 tags.
And the concept behind loving or disliking a track is to make ur personalized picks more accurate... The more tracks u like, more accurate picks section become...
UI is visually based and not font based... Gone is ur need to edit fonts... UI is designed so that u browse collection by album ar

I never said I'm against the rating system. I'm saying its got only 3 levels whereas a normal rating system has 6 (the 5-star rating system).
Also, I edit IDv3 tags for songs I already have because the Zune software is only able to sort auto playlists by idv3 tag data.
This will be the case for other people who are importing their entire library from itunes/winamp/whatever to Zune.
That is the whole purpose of the topic. People moving OVER to zune.
Also, the pass is not an option for everyone depending on where you live. Again, this is not itunse - Zune has no right demanding proprietary status imo. It's not up to the task, especially for users outside of the US
Browse albums by their art covers...
You can arrange songs/albums/artists alphabetical or by date added added... There com the date you were asking for... I don't know if it shows exact date or not.. But if you select arrange by date added.. Than your most recently downloaded album is on top...

To you above 4 replies, about the 'sorting'.
This is basic sorting that has been around for forever. Sorting by date in album view is not new, nor not at all what I was talking about. Perhaps reread the post so you're more informed with what I was saying. That would be a good way to go about responding to a topic
Does anyone with some experience with other music management apps have anything to say?
I personally find it brilliant, looks really cool as well with a nice easy UI e.g. big chunky text and its really smooth.
I like the way on the now playing screen you have a giant wallpaper of your albums etc.
Half of those things in that big list someone mentioned sound utterly pointless to me, I mean no global hot keys? Who really needs that. I thought thats what a mouse is for.

I once had over 70g of nicely organized music UNTIL I got a 20g Zune mp3 player and was forced to use the Zune software...now I've got 120g of mixed up crap.
Zune's a piece of junk, I prefer to use MediaMonkey.
Why you need the 70g of music stored on your PC when you have it all nicely organized on zunepass cloud system for you and you can get it anytime you want and delete it back again...
I don't think Zune desktop is a music collectors device... Its an application to play music, not store and organize your music collection..
I threw away my 60GB of old tiesto collection once I found zunepass... It already has a better better music collection than why I had collected from torrents...
Subscribe to zunepass... And you will see that you are spending more time in listening to music than organizing and collecting it.

Not sure I don't mind zune but my issue is not being able to sync with Outlook. I hate the cloud and would perfer to keep my contacts and calender info on my computer not out in the air for any hacker to find on microsoft. I use it because I wanted to upgrade to WP7. If there was a way to sync with Outlook(not Outlook Connector) I would.

1. zunepass isnt worldwide.
2. if it is proprietary, then it MUST be up to the task of managing your music library, since it will be replacing itunes, wmp, winamp, and so forth.
3. Cloud requires constant data connection. Again, you're missing the point and living in a bubble.
This proprietary software doesn't have any business being proprietary. It's a great piece of software but it is not up to the task of being run worldwide on people's computers with full support and features.

even so, email by defintion is cloud. when you email someone their contact and email info is whittled away to the cloud. The cloud is just a fancy term for how modern computers work anyways. So if you're worried about hackers on MS servers, you'd best not use the internet to communicate as any sort of data set over the internet can be intercepted.
well... you DONT have to use it.
i got a windows phone and sometimes i use it but usually i use jetaudio, the only reason for using Zune software for Windows Phone its for updating windows phone AND drag and drop music i want in my windows phone. after that i only use it because i want to.
i use it because its nice, it got a nice interface, and of course its not like you have to use everything from it, like, i use mp3tag to fix some music tag i got. but still you could find tag info from internet with Zune.
but only because you have Windows Phone, automatically you cant use some other player. its only for synching and updating not for playing music or fix tags if you don't like it.
If you want your mp3 player to be synched to your computer, with the same playlists and everything, you have to use the same program. WP doesn't allow you to sync with your winamp playlists or itunes playlists or so forth.
Yes, you could just plop files into your WP in an unorganized fashion if you like. Clearly that isn't the point of view of this thread. Come on now
Smart Playlists in Zune kind of suck compared to iTunes
Someone said to place all new music in internal and then it will be recognized.
Another way is to clear app's data.
Really? No refresh option? Cmon Samsung.
Well I had started the phone over at the time of my prev post..right now thats 3+ hrs ago and that shutdown / startup was after a total data clear in the apps settings Samsung Music app storage, and a unmount of the ext sd.
I just think it is interesting to see the difference in the Samsung indexing compared to the vlc indexing for my music. VLC takes upwards of a half hour. Samsung however has taken over three hours and is not nearly done yet. Of 7 or 8 newly added music folders, still only 3 have showed up (folders tab allows for sort by recently added).
It looks like a 6 hour indexing job or at the very least 4. Probably 6 as I just happened to look down and saw the tail end of some kind of toast notification of passing the first 10000 song point of loading.
Pretty tarded app. REALLY needs a refresh button if it is this slow to index.
But it does look good scrolling thru all the albun covers.
Just had a thought...hope it isn't screwing with my custom created artworks. That would be totally uncalled for.
No checking on a jpg file it remains at its original shape and size.
I have been watching this indexing of the music by the Samsung Music app, very closely.
It returned both positive quantities and negatives so far.
I consider this to be one of the best sets of native apps of any phone so far, but the music app being the only AOD enablable app for lockscreen music has me baffled and disappointed. Though not entirely.
On one hand it is really blows it in that it has taken over 6 hours so far and only 3 of 8 of my newly added folders have been loaded.
Additionally it misses the ball on SEVERAL of the artwork configurations which VLC (not supported in AOD) picks up easily.
First the pro column, it looks good in album view and scrolls real smooth, without using 7 GB for APP Data (which is what vlc takes to run my music collection) (where is it storing the data? is my question here); refer to screenshots 1, 3 &4 &8.
However, there is a small number of album arts missing, and more than expected albums in the 'Unknown Album' position of the 'U's in the alphabet. Which indicates to me that there could be some id tag misrecognition or unrecognition someplaces;
refer to screenshot 15 &16.
Finally the Samsung native music app sees the artwork as different in albums where different songs have different artworks, but only in instances where those arts and songs are nested in separate folders. Such as my version of the Pulp Fiction soundtrack.
In cases where the artworks were embedded separately in the songs of a compilation to show their original album arts, which is how I did the Word Of Mouth compilation, (which I also screenshotted here from the Samsung file manager which displays that in the file manager we can see the individually embedded songs embedded arts in its little file manager thumbnail) there is no individually embedded artwork recognition in the AOD enabled samsung music app. The lockscreen displays show that VLC will have these Word Of Mouth albun arts as different.
Seen in the remaining screenshots:
It's not the only AOD enabled music app. Good play music works just fine as do others.

I am of course speaking of the following always on display as seen in the following screenshot
(though I haven't tried those other apps) ...and not the screenshots in my prior post which are lockscreen shots.
Meanwhile after a decharge today from 100% down to now 44%, it has still not indexed my music files completely as at least one folder is still not seen atop the latest folders list. Most of them just showed up in the last hour or two though. About 24 hours so far since it started.
Presumably it must be storing all these artworks in the system, they are all there as I scroll the lists.
As my sd isn't formatted to the phone but only external.
Man, just buy a better sd card and dont blame the phone for this or atleast try to format this one and try again.
Man. Maaaaan haha. Don't tell people what to do. Aggression indicated stupidity thats just stupid you know. Literally. Loser. I bet you don't even keep any music on your phone. Probably using Spotify. Not me I'm from a different generation. We used to buy physical copies of our music albums, and carry them around with us. The music then was better too.
The phone must be using some sort of sdcard block by block scan eh. It still finding items on the thing. Not exactly a normal method to find files. I'm guessing it locates the head folder, but in my case it's a complex tree.
So if it is the sdcard being 500 GB card. That's a pretty good sized card anyway.
But it is still finding stuff screenshotted it then left it over night (after charge and restart) and it added some 10 more albums or so to the list.
It's not about size of card, but read/write speed, the slower the card the longer it takes for the phone to update the album arts.
I have no problem with this app. I have 6 GB music files in my SD card and it loads all albums and album arts immediately when I open the app. My SD card is Samsung Evo+ 128GB.
Slowly now. Latest rate appears to be finding about 1/hr. Samsung card. Singly written. Couple months old. EVO.
Also it is really fast to load those arts once it finds the absolute block in the SD cards file system.. VLC has always been ultra slow at loading all the music. If one were to attempt to enter an artist heading in VLC or album heading, it could take minutes to resolve the artist or album.
This app has its negative points, but it also has its positive points. I am not here to criticize the app. I am here making a point to observe it. Really pleased with the Samsung apps as I said in the op. The keyboard and the file manager I especially like. The points where the music app slips in finding some arts are probably gonna be repairable by changing out the few non functional music files on a case by case basis.
Seriously fast app for loading the musics and arts. real time jump anywhere in the list by track or albun. Very pleased.
VLC vs Samsung data usage stat for 300 GB of music. this app is like a window to my SD card.
Samsung s native music app is trash honestly.
I would recommend a alternative like vinyl player or black player.
Not pleased again. Used Smart Switch to do a phone backup, took out the sd card, put back in, restored the backup, and now it is re-indexing the music again. So once again my latest added folders are not here. Once again can't listen to my newest adds like Madonna's GHV2 for example, if I wanted to (with the Samsung music app, at least). Which blows.
I thought once it built its music index it would store it in the permanent. now back to square 1.
I'm glad i don't mess around with this stuff any more. I uploaded all my music to Google Play Music and never looked back. Available anywhere, on any device with internet and i can always download music from Play Music if i really need to. I don't have any need to carry thousands of albums in my pocket.

That's cool. is that a sharable playlist or what? I can't say as I've heard of that one how does it work? You pay a subscription fee or what?
I have purchased a few albuns off of Google play store but I don't like the feeling of staying connected to the internet. So I can't rely on the internet.
Really ridiculous this app is slowly reloading those folders again. This all started cause I heard from the Samsung store that they could replace my carrier version of the software with something from Samsung. Which they then failed to do. Not something I would do very often.
Massive deceleration curve for this indexing thing. Been screenshotting the progress over the past several hours. The window over thr albums holds it's viewpoint above the list. Say it was started in the 4th quarter of the Alphabet (by albun population) at album number 1200, after 400 albums are added it enters the third quarter by going through first the T's backwards from Tzolkin Date to T Rex.Then on into the S's rising towards the top but staying at a viewpoint of album #1200 in the list, which now would have over 1600
While the population happens over a graph of time on the x axis. The y axis charts the speed of albums added. The curve is hyperbolic deceleration over time.
Last time the indexing was being completed, I saw a few albums still being added. (before the restart happened today).
Between 5 or 1 (guestimated but def. odd numbered amount) entries appeared sometime after noon today as shown in the following two screenshots. Seen by the shift of the Title on the upper left into the right column. This happened around 60 hours after the start of indexing Tuesday evening.
I think send feedback to developer of app and till they fix the problem try another app , i use Poweramp for years for all my music needs
