[Q] Syncing with Exchange 2003 - Windows Phone 7 General

Help! Unable to connect Windows 7 Phone to Exchange 2003. Message said "Not compatable with your version of Exchange". Any ideas? Several people I know connect to Exchange 2003 and are comtemplating a Windows 7 phone. Looks like they may be disappointed!!

seems the responce accepted was check the SSL

Love it when people try to drum up a fury when they can't even use Google.
Hotmail uses Exchange 2003 ActiveSync protocol so I knew this was going to be full of misinformation before I opened up the thread.

i'm no hater of people asking questions, but simple things like typing "windows phone 7 exchange 2003" on google/bing really does bring up things to try first before hitting up a forum. others have bound to have his issue. If you have tried it, that's good, but then when you post, you should say what you've tried and what you believe isn't related to the issue.

A question regarding upgrade possibility

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could help confirm something for me. I've been toying with the idea of trying one of these mouth-watering WM6 ROMs, but I don't think my current situation will permit it.
At home I sync to a WinXP SP2 machine running ActiveSync 4.2. On that setup, I sync my calendar and tasks with Outlook 2003 ... should be no problem.
But at work, I have a W2K SP4 machine running Outlook 2000 SP-3. Obviously, I also use AS 4.2 at work, and I sync with my Outlook Calendar and tasks.
If I were to flash up to WM6, from what I have been reading, it seems I would need AS 4.5, which I believe requires Outlook 2003 as a minimum, so if I went with WM6, I would lose the ability to sync at work.
Am I correct in what I have gleaned from these forums and Microsoft's AS Pages? Do I need to petiton my employer for an OS upgrade for the PC at my workstation?
Thanks to anyone who could confirm or deny these observations. And MANY thanks to the fine geniuses who are giving us the cookware and the recipes
-pvs
You're right. You would have to go to OL2003 if you want to retain the ability to sync at work.
Thank you for the quick reply!
Ahhh, that's what I thought. Too bad I really wanted to try (at least) one of those ROMs. Oh well.
Maybe I could arrange for my office PC to die, so I get a new one. They ARE replacing malfunctioning desktops with WinXP machines running Office 2003.
Nahh ... I'm too honest to do something like that. Maybe if I just ask REALLY nice, they'll agree to upgrade the OS on the machine I'm using.
Anyway, thanks again for the confirmation. I really do appreciate it!

There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-synchronize all i

I have upgraded to oficial WM6 and I use Windows Vista 64, with the latest Windows Mobile Device Center.
From time to time I keep receiving this error:
"There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-synchronize all items on your device. Please perform a manual sync."
If I accept I lose the changes made in my P3300.
What should I do ??
I am afraid of syncronizing and loosing every change again
Thanks for any help

I have also updated my Artemis to official WM6, and syncronized with Vista without any problem. But I use Vista 32; maybe Vista 64 with WMDC would be the guilty. Try change to 32b version.

Claudio
PS.: até aqui nos encontramos!!!
Pois é
Pois é... até aqui.
I cannot believe we all use underestimated 32 bit software in 64bits systems because the softwarehouses doesn´t care to create 64bit programs...
Well, I am still trying
Thanks anyway

They are lazy
They are lazy or think consumers arent interested in 64b.Who to blame?
Before a total flame war agains MS is started, I'd like to say that I had the same thing with the 32 bit version and the latest WMDC.
I think you can go ahead safely (I did, and I didn't lose any files/information). The message only says that it has to do a full synchronisation. Nothing is really deleted, it's just checked extra or overwritten from your computer. If you have a new B&B installation this shouldn't be a problem since you don't have anything on the P3300
How the error appears
"There has been a change made on your server that requires you to resyncronize all items on your device. All changes made since your last successful sync will be lost. Do you wish to continue" Yes or No
I don´t know what to do !
No problem
I've had this same message a lot of times..... well, exactlly every time I made a full restore from a backup after fooling arround with my p3300. And the point is... if you've made changes IN THE P3300, you'll loose them, as it's going to make a complete 'download' of messages and contacts from the server (Exchange in my case)... so you're safe to accept it (if your exchange messages and contacts are ok, of course)
Salut
Bak
It happens frequently
I have just accepted the error, and it is fully syncronizing.
But it happened before, and it keeps happening randomly, not if I do something big in my p3300 like a backup restore...
I would just like to say we have been investigating this problem with Microsoft for the last 4 months. Still have not found the cause of the problem. It happens with all of the Windows Mobile Devices independent of WM 5.0, WM 6.0 or WM 6.1. Also it happens with all brands Samsung,HTC, and HP I have seen it happen.
It is to do with something with the settings of the Exchange server but we can not be sure what it is. Our best bet is the Antivirus program causing the mishap on the synchronisation but I have to say we do not have any actual proof
No Exchange Server here...
Well I'm not using Exchange Server. I get this every so often too. I just use a USB.
I'm not exactly sure about this...but I don't remeber that I got this on XP.
I thought it was some software that I installed.

I have the same problem with XP SP2 and Active Sync 4.5 and my ATT Tilt running WM 6.1
This really stinks since it does erase all changes made to the phone contacts!!
Who has a solution??
i had the problem with my treo 750v and it keeps on with my new samsung i780.
it is very annoying. there is no data lost because simply all items are being synchronized again but it takes so long!
i have more than 1000 contacts and many many calendar items.
i still cant imagíne how that problem comes.
in another board someone told that this error occurs when the synchronisation is being interrupted.
i am gonna observe that. maybe that is the problem.
Problem Solved
The solution is at this thread on Microsoft... http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/.../thread/014c27ad-b7ec-43e8-b39f-908e0a88f25c/
However, some people are still experiencing the same problem after following the instructions... and you will! The first time you sync your device AFTER you have received the error message about the re-sync requirement and AFTER you have changed your settings, you will STILL get the same error message. Once the device has been synced (and, yes, after you've lost all your current information that you struggled to enter into your device while driving 60MPH on the highway while talking on the phone)... the error message will no longer appear the NEXT time you sync.
This is the case with my HTC Touch Diamond anyway.
Good luck.
which of the tips provides a solution. i read the linked topic but didnt find any
See here for a possible solution:
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsmobile/thread/d709054c-24a0-4b47-a29d-043aef6b14f3
i finally found out that its definitely the disconnection during syncing.
if you avoid that, the error doesnt occur.
and for resyncing all items you better deactivate touch flo. then it takes only a few minutes.
wm6 activesync, gmail push email, and error (support code) 0x86000106
Same thing is happening with my CDMA Sprint/HTC Touch Pro. I enabled IMAP on my gmail and set up push email on my phone for my gmail account using activesync. After a while, my phone activesync kept popping up a message saying, "There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-synchronize all items on your device. All changes made since your last successful sync will be lost. Do you wish to continue?" Under 'Attention Required' it gives Support Code: 0x86000106. I allowed it to re-sync, but the message kept popping up. So as a last resort, I did a hard reset on my phone, but hard reset did not solve it.
After a while, I figured out that the problem was that I had chosen the "Sent Items" folder on my wm6.1 Pocket Outlook to be synced with my Gmail, but the problem is that no such folder exists in Gmail. Actually, Gmail does have such a folder/label, but Gmail calls it "Sent Mail," and this name difference misses up the wm6.1's activesyncing gmail accounts to give the above-mentioned error code. I also noticed that a new label, unbeknown to me, had been created on my Gmail called "Sent Items," so this may have been the reason that the activesync stopped synchronizing Pocket Outlook's Sent Items folder with the Gmail's Sent Mail folder/label.
I deleted the Sent Item label on my Gmail, and I think that I may now be able to start syncing Pocket Outlook's Sent Items folder with Gmail's Sent Mail folder/label, but I am not brave enough to take the risk of going through all that trouble if the error message shows up again. So I am now only syncing the Inbox folders on my Pocket Outlook and Gmail. What I don't understand is how did the Sent Items label get created on my Gmail account to cause all that miss? I did not create it, so my guess is after a while wm6.1's active sync may trick Gmail into making that label and cause all of those problems.
Many people have had this problem and Sprint, HTC, and Microsoft have no idea what is causing it, but I'm pretty sure I have figured it out. What a shame because so many people have reported this problem on various forums and reported not help or resolution for it although some got the error while trying to sync their phone with their computer's activesync 4.5 whereas my problem was using wm6.1's activesync with my gmail account directly to get push email--a service that Gmail began for Windows Mobile users since around Q4 of last year.
If anyone has a solution for this name difference on the two folders in Pocket Outlook and Gmail, please let me know. I hope the info I have provided will help.

connect to my websites email?

does anyone know how to configure windows mobile 6.0-6.1 to connect with my websites email?i have spent hours trying to find out. other than an exchange server is there a way?
You need to tell us what type of email, it is most likely a POP account, so grab the details from your providers and just add them in one at a time in the accounts panel on your device.
i am new to the 'website' stuff, so i am not sure. I just started it a couple weeks ago. in my outlook on my PC, under accounts, it says MAPI. Outlook on PC connected perfectly, but when i use outlook on hermes, it says i need to put in settings manually.
Okay what you need are basically the following details:
username
password
pop server name
smtp server name
The above details you need to setup a basic mail account however look at your PC outlook account connection and copy those exactly.

Hi James,
Thank you for contacting us at Microsoft Office Live Support regarding your Microsoft Office Live account.
My name is M. Srinivas and I have created the Service Request # 105892****, for this case.
I understand that you want to configure your Microsoft Office Live account on your Windows Mobile version 6, to send and receive emails and you need to incoming and outgoing server information. I comprehend your concern and realize how this is important for you.
I regret update you that with the current version of Microsoft Office Live we do not support synchronization of Microsoft Office Live account on Windows Mobile of any version. This concern is with our Product Development Team and they are working diligently on this.
Alternatively, you cannot synchronize your Microsoft Office Live account with the Windows Mobile, however, you may sign-in to your account and view your emails. Still, there is a condition, that the internet speed and the Windows Mobile settings should match the system requirements of Microsoft Office Live.
For more information about system requirements you may visit the link as mentioned below:

lol you dont need to pester M$ about this it sounds like they didnt understand the issue anyway.
First thing to do is to take a look at the settings under your account in outlook (on your PC).
As the post said above you need the username, password and the incoming/outgoing server addresses.
on your device go into messaging>menu>options>New Account....
fill in the details it requests and also how often you wish it to check for new mail. Its a pretty simple process dude
the problem is i dont know incoming/outgoing server. IT IS NOT IN MY SETTINGS. If i double click my account settings, it gives me the 'outlook connector'. the ONLY info under settings for this account is under 'type' it says 'MAPI'. there are NO other settings, no way to see incoming outgoing server addresses. This is a Microsoft hosted website, hence their reference of my "Microsoft Office Live account". so it connects with outlook connector. WHICH i cannot get for WM6. please if YOU don't understand the problem don't flame for me being ignorant.
hahahha......hahaha, way too funny.
anyway, i've never heard of this office live mail thingy, so i did a little looking around about it on google, interesting stuff. all i can suggest is to use windows live and try and see if you can sign in and sync ur email with that, cause i suspect that this office live thingy has to be somehow related to windows live.
Mate people are trying to help you not flame you. I can see this is frustrating you so what you need to do is get the details from your provider. Who are they? If you put your providers name down somebody might be up to the challenge to working this out for you OR maybe even have the same provider thus can assist you.
You just need to gather some information then people can make a better and informed decision about what you should do.
MICROSOFT is my PROVIDER......
hence the microsoft office live.....
I believe I have stated this more than once.
and I can log into my mail server using the internet, but I need it to update automatically. And I cant do that with outlook in WM6. It is a situation that would take someone 'in the know', maybe someone who has had this exact problem, and figured a way around it. If someone is smart enough to figure it out, that would be swell too. But most likely it will need to be someone who has faced this problem on their website, and figured a way around it.
To learn more about my 'provider' plz see http://www.officelive.com/
Let's get something clear, you have Microsoft Live account (Hotmail), and you want to make it download emails automatically? If that is the case go back to your Outlook and then go to setting to set the "Sync Option" it is on manual so set it to something you want.
Hi
I've no experience of Office live but there is a thread I have found that may be of use to you. Hope it helps.

I have a live Office Basics account with a web page and 3 e-mail adddresses and have not been able to get my phone's Live messenger to receive or send my e-mails. When Live Office first came out, You were able too send and recieve e-mails with your phone, but they changed servers and is a NoGo as of right now. I am 99% sure with Windows Mobile 7, they will integrate it.
ugh... figures

Get MSN email on my phone.

Hey guys. For the past couple of months ive been trying to find a solution to this problem and its been driving me absolutely crazy. I have my email @msn.com and its been there for the past 8 years. It would be EXTREMELY inconvenient to change it to somewhere else. Well anyway, i want to be able to check my email from my phone, and be notified when a new message comes in. So i tried to set it up using the Mobile outlook, but apparently msn email isnt compatible with it(which i find to be one of the stupidest things ever). So then i thought to forward all my msn email to a gmail account or something, but msn only allows you to forward email to another msn or hotmail account. So then i found the Windows Mobile Live program, which i gotta say sucks to all hell, but apparently works with msn email so i thought id give it a try. Turns out though that my internet connection (the tmobile proxy hack which only allows me to use port 8080) doesnt work, and theres no way to change the port for Mobile Live. I was hoping someone out there might have a solution or an idea. Thanks in advance.

thats not a program, but a webpage through pocket IE. The problem with that, besides the fact that it sucks, is that it wont automatically download new messages and give alerts. i was hoping for a program based kind of thing. thanks anyway though

Newbie Question

I am thinking of switching to this phone. I will be comming from a palm centro. My question is do I have to use outlook to sync? I have vista 64 but dont have outlook. Is there a program (non web based) like palm desktop I could use to sync?
Thanks in advance
Dug13
P.S. I allready love this forum and dont even have the phone yet.
Welcome, dug13.
I think this question has already been asked, but never mind. I have tried it myself, I wanted some software that could run on Linux. Have a look at:
1. Finchsync. I managed to sync my Universal with Thunderbird and Lightning (both on Win XP), but thats been some time ago. Don't know if this still exists.
2. Funambol. Is a server of its own, managed to sync with Evolution (Linux), but I read a few reports about sync only working one way/only sometimes etc.
I ended up without sync, I use PIMbackup for... well, backup! and have my phone contacts on my device and my mail contacts on my laptop. Hard times for Linux users...
My 2ct, Gby.
hmmm
Thanks for the quick reply.I dont have or know anything about linux but thank you for the refrences. I dont want to spend the money for outlook so i guess no deals. I thought i heard u could use windows live?
I just want to sync the cal. contacts, memos or notes ect.
Vista 64 does not come with Outlook Express?
I think it's a free download from Windows Live, on Windows 7 a lot of stuff is missing and you get it free from Windows Live.
Outlook has never been needed to synch.
Now if you wanted to synch email you can just use gmail or similar and not need to synch e-mail.(it allready set up on phone just enterd user pass on mine Ta-Daa!)
