Once the Thunderbolt comes out are we still gonna get luvin from the devs??

I rooted my phone a few months back and now I seem to flash a new rom every day. I was just wondering since the new hotness, HTC Thunderbolt, is coming out in a few months, will the devs continue to support the Dinc??
I had a DX and swapped it for a Dinc specifically because there is much more dev support.
Thanks!
I don't think you have anything to worry about for a while. I believe the higher cost of 4g service will possibly delay the move of some people to a 4g device.
I'm excited about the first thing to come and that being the porting of the thunderbolt rom and it's Sense 2.0 to devices like the DInc. I would have to imagine that with the dump of the Thunderbolt being dropped a few days ago that it is already going on behind the scenes. I am a Virtuous user myself and I remember RMK stating that his next big change would be when such a rom dropped, so that he could incorporate the new sense.
If the iPhone comes to Verizon, I won't be here much longer... lol
There will still be plenty of action, there are still plenty of new builds for the Eris.

I had an iPhone for 2 years and then I went to college and AT&T doesn't even have 3G here... I switched to Verizon but I've always loved the iPhone. My incredible does an ok job to sate me, but it's definitely not an iPhone 4 (so sexy...)
If you enjoy this modding stuff, say goodbye. You will be bored.

In regards to the iPhone, I came from one to the DInc also. Mine was even JB 'n but the DInc is a much better phone if u want themes, or even just plain options.

I'm a troll? Are you retarded? I love my Droid Incredible, but I like the apple eco-system, and I am not a huge themer/modder.
So... Shut the hell up.

The G1/Dream came out 28 months ago and it's still being supported by developers--even though it's been superseded in every possible way by almost every Android device that's come out after it.
That said, as long as the Evo is supported and/or Koush has a DInc, there will plenty of cross-flashing material for us anyhow--I wouldn't worry about it!

Koush no longer has a DInc. CM has new maintainers for us, slayher and CUViper.
I'm happy with my Incredible and it will stay in the family - I'll let my wife and daughter duke it out and winner takes it <grin>. The Incredible is a very capable smartphone and it will be that way for a while. I have faith that the devs will do what they can to support it.

I'm not really a dev but i'm a theme designer i guess that wouldn't fall under dev lol
anyway, i'll be making themes for both devices (as seen in my sig)
not to mention since skin.apk's would be compatible with both devices thanks to the new Sense 2.0 it will make them universal across all Z/HD/ThunderBolt ROM's

Is The Evo 4G Gonna Get Left In The Dark?

I don't know about you guys but I'm starting to think we are gonna get treated like the HD2 was......I mean HTC and Windows gave there dedicated users a great device with the ancient Windows 6.5.....and while we may be running Android 2.2 (which is beginning to become old news) we are running an ancient UI (HTC Sense 1.0) while the new phones are getting Sense 2.0+.....sounds familiar to me with the new Windows 7 devices coming out and the HD2 stuck on 6.5......I really think froyo will be the last major update for the Evo....at least until Q3 or Q4 of this year......What do u guys think???? Id be happier with either Gingerbread or the New Sense or a combination of both......
Its still Sprint's flagship smartphone. The epic doesn't get any love, and I really don't see the shift overtaking it. Does it even have a named replacement yet?
We'll at least get new sense, if not gb soon. Didn't we just see a sense gb rom dump...I lost the thread, but HTC is at least working on something

I think that the evo will get 2.3. more apps would sell if the evo got 2.4 also...i would not be surprised to see sprint request 2.4 from htc but ill settle for sprint requesting 2.3.
contact sprint if you want to push for an update to 2.3
I dont remember, maybe one of you folks know.
What was the time delta between Google's release of Froyo bits and Sprint/HTC's release of the 2.2 OTA upgrade for EVO?

Sprint is not releasing new phones as quickly as compared to other carriers so I think the EVO will be a flagship phone longer than most other phones.

I don't see how that is possible when from my knowledge that phone is a GSM phone that supports HSPA+, not WiMax, not CMDA.

You're correct, it is a GSM device.
optimus came out as a gsm phone to, and not after long it was on all 4 carriers
Well I really hope it doesn't come to Sprint. Knowing them, they'll get it and think that they don't need another flagship phone and we'll never get our EVO 2. Besides, we sure as hell don't need another gimmick phone since the Echo will be the reigning king in that department.
evo2 would be nice, but in all fairnest optimus 3d is pretty good phone. hdmi, dlni, 3d, dual core prosessor, 4.3 inch screen etd. has pretty impressive packege, and would be good addition to sprints line up. about echo I really dont know what they was thinkin. phone looks like its ben desined on a launch break. lame
Well Sprint can ask for HTC to upgrade us to a 2.0 Sense but I doubt that will happen as HTC is more focused on their new lines coming out which is fail on their part.
Sprint needs to learn how to push harder for updates out of HTC and remove the bullcrap from their shipped ROMs like their bloatware.
LG & Sprint have not really faired well together imo. Lutus & Lotus elite = garbage, Optimus besides having Android 2.2 is really no better than the sanyo Zio. The best phone they've had for Sprint was the Rumor 2.
I work at a Sprint store & I see the LGs come back all the time broken & not working right. Keep the 3D on GSM & give me an EVO2 as well.
If you check out the htc community website, there was a response from htc about the update to 2.3.
Linky
Basically we have to wait and see if htc will allow 2.3 to be on the EVO in not at all by passing "quality standards".
This is frustrating...

I would probably wait for the nexus prime, but i guess i want something different now (aka non android based phone)...
I'm going to stick it out for another year or so until 4G handsets hit the UK. Still really happy with my Desire.

I'm attempting to get a sensation tomorrow as an upgrade without changing my price plan. However on the sensation thread there seems to be a good few issues but this seems to be the same with all new handsets.

Not really until current projects are still in development. I'm not upgrading to a device lacking a nice selection of custom roms from trusted developers. It would be Pyrrhic victory imo.
Thought I wanted to upgrade, when I first began reading about the Pyramid/Sensation... But as others have said, I am happy to sit this one out and hang on to my Desire. Just having too much fun with it at the moment
I'm going Evo 3D. Need a bit of novelty value!
Seems a decent phone too.

Not for now i have no needs for something bigger and better.
Not for now. Probably upgrading in Q1 2012 - when a bunch of new phones will come out.
Stick with desire, same reasons as given above... basically;
1) wait for the nexus whatever to see what that's like (and see if htc do a spin-off of that to see what that's like too)
2) wait for an ICS phone (HTC or not - i assume this will be part of #1 though)
3) wait for 4G
4) wait for quad core (rumour is early 2012)
5) my desire is fine as it is at the moment
I can wait till Sep/Oct to see if I am still sticking with Android or jumping ship to iPhone 5, or I could just keep the Desire and get the next-gen iPod touch instead

with apple supposedly 'stealing' features from android (notification/widgets) etc. why would you go to apple?
That said - I can see a reason to go for an iPod Touch a year or so ago... but I'm actually happy with my Android-choice and I think it's only going to get better.

Heh, because history teaches us that apple steals things then makes them better...that's the way they work. Don't get me wrong, i'm just a consumer, not a shareholder, so i'm quite fine with that
I'll be waiting till end 2012, very happy with the desire, there isn't much it still can't do.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Same here. I'm pleased with the Desire and would probably wait it out for another year until the next wave of Android phones to hit the market.
If I had to choose what I want to have after the HTC Desire, then I would choose Samsung S2 Galaxy, maybe I'll have the opportunity when my subscription runs out, which I have to march 2013 or will be an even more interesting possibility. In any case, I would not go on any other system
regards
Take away gaming - Can you think of any app that the desire cant do, that the other phones can?
I cant Desire is still right up there with the best, spec wise no but still a great phone
I've had my S2 for about a week now - at first I didn't really like how big it was and how light it feels but kept with it for a few days and grew to like it more and more - that's without even rooting it yet.
Tbh I was still perfectly happy with my desire I just had the opportunity at next to no cost so took it - now when I pick up the desire it's hard to believe I didn't notice the difference at first - everything about the S2 other than the standard keyboard is well advanced (which you would expect to be fair).
All i'll say is don't try the S2 or sensation whilst you still have your desire or you might not be able to hold on for the next gen phones!

AFAIK, as soon as analogue TV is sitched off completely later this year, the frequency spectrum will be auctioned off for 4G licences.

I upgraded also to Evo 3d but no s-off for Aussie Hboot 1.49.0012 and 13. It is a great phone , looks and works well. But with root but no s-off not much better than stock. Sold mine and will stay with Desire and wait for next gen Htc or Galaxy Nexus and Dev support.
I stepped off desire too .
Now got a htc 7 trophy!
Great phone man it's far better then desire! 720p recording is damn smooth and the phone rocks! only blife drains quite a bit but not big deal

Don't know why OP didn't chose the above, but there is some straight forward reasons:
sensation: This phone has proven very problematic, and have had quite a few issues. Compared to the competition(galaxy s2) it won't be a proper choice.
samsung nexus:
if you mean nexus s: This is 1 year old and is outdated even though it still receives updates.
if you mean galaxy nexus: this isn't out yet(self explanatory).
Went with the 3vo because it is the newest out in Australia through my carrier...also I so like sense and I'm not really looking to hack this phone.
Happened at a good time though as I was over the constant changing roms and never having anything that was truly stable.I'm happy with the 3vo as the internal storage is fine I have the newest sense ,and will in the near future get to experience ics.
But once again thanks for all the help with my problemsand all the devs for their tireless voluntary work

Droid DNA all the way. I want one so bad. The question is really wether you want sense or AOSP.

Just my opinion....go Nexus. No more waiting for mythical updates :/
I would expect the DNA to be just like the Inc2.....the best device upon release, but a year later its a forgotten device. Nexi are guaranteed 2 OS version updates.

Well they both don't have microSD slots so you would have to spend more for the 32gb nexus
I'm so fresh you can suck my nits...
I ended up buying a Nexus. I never have really cared about the latest or greatest spec'd phone, but updates and roms are what make a phone in my opinion. I previously had an OG droid which was awesome for that. I was kind of let down with the inc2 since I got it late in the game and most developers had jumped ship already. The Nexus has a great community behind it with fast updates. Feels like home again.

I recently had a Dinc2 and bought a GNex outright for 200 new. Best decision ever.
I wont buy HTC ever again, just because they dont update phones as fast. I dont know how much longer the GNex will be supported, but at least it officially runs 4.1.1 and there is no need to hack bootloaders and such.
I also prefer AOSP and love that there is minimal bloatware on the phone.
The DNA is new which is nice, but no sd card (probably all phones will go to this setup) and no removable battery. On a 4G phone? No thanks.
Oh, and I kept my unlimited data...which I dont even use that often (maybe 1 GB) but I dont like Verizon telling me to spend more and get less.

This screams me. I just wish there was a newer phone like the Galaxy Nexus.
I could go on and on about how I feel about Android phone hardware...but that is for another place, another time.

A lot of people have posted their upgrade decisions with reasons in this thread.
I've started a thread over in General that is similar to this.
It can be found here:

I would appreciate if you could post your upgrade decisions there.
I want to 'index', if you will, upgrades from the Incredible 2.
This may help people with their decisions.
Also, congrats to OP on his/her new phone!
Thanks,
