www.toonel.net
toonel.net is an experiment in a technique for conserving network bandwidth. If you are paying a fee based on the amount of data you transfer (e.g. 3G/GPRS/DSL/CDMA) and have monthly download limit, or if you have narrowband connection (e.g. dialup modem) then you are most likely to appreciate the service toonel.net offers. There are number of toonel.net client application packages. All solutions are 100% Java based and therefore this service can be used on any platform with an installed Java Runtime Environment, including mobile phones.

I have a Q, Im running the CM RC-2 and Wireless Tether isnt working, but if i go into setting->Wireless & Network Setting, on the bottom it says Tethering and Portable Hotspot.
If i Connect via USB and activate it, WILL I GET CHARGED thru Sprint ? Or is like using Wireless Tether program other then its being connected thru USB and not a Wifi Hotspot/Router.
I personally have UNLIMITED DATA for my Evo, I have the Everything Plus Family Plan which has Unlimited Data.
Thanks
If you don't have the $30 hotspot, the native tethering will usually fail.
If you don't have the $30 hotspot and want to tether anyway (usually "free" in that Sprint doesn't do anything about it at this point in time), and if you are rooted, you can use Wired Tether for Root Users or a few other apps, such as the ones for non-rooted users.
If you aren't rooted, your selection narrows to PDA Net, EasyTether, and a few other select choices, often where you're required to install software on the computer you're tethering to and these apps often range between $10-30 for the full version (allowing HTTPS), or free/cheaper for HTTP only.

Thanks for the info but that does not really answer my Question. See pics below. If i check one of the boxes, Will i be charged anything ??? Its like a integrated Tether i guess ??
CyanogenMod's tethering (via the Settings>Wireless networks) is 100% free unless Sprint decides to start doing some DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) on all cellular traffic, which is seriously unlikely given that the technology for that is extremely expensive, and Sprint needs to be focusing on rolling out more 4G towers rather than getting special hardware to watch what you're doing online.

Does that apply to both USB Connected and Hotspot/Router ??
Thanks I appreciate Everyones help and quick answers
Here's the story.
My wife has a mobile G2, unlocked/rooted/etc, running CM7.1, currently with no data plan whatsoever.
I would like to get her on the dumbphone data plan so she could check weather and email
Question: how can I do this without AT&T finding out that it's a smartphone and forcefully adding the 300mb/$25 monthly data plan?
Considering the fact that they haven't yet added on the data plan, they didn't associate the phone's IMEI with the fact that it's a smartphone.
However, I am afraid that they will find this out if she starts using the web by scanning the TTL field of the IP datagram or perhaps by other ways.
I think that perhaps if all traffic was encrypted through a home ssh tunnel and TTL is spoofed, they will have no way to tell what phone this is.
I have this in my guide post but thought it needed its own post. If you have a capped data plan then you definetely need to check this out.
It has basically turned my 4GB plan into a 20GB plan!
The SuperUser's Guide: How To Extend Your Data Plan
Onavo Extend lets you get more out of your data plan, so you can do more web browsing and apps, consume more music, video and photos on 3G without breaking your data cap.
After you install Onavo Extend you can go back to using your phone or tablet as before. In the background, data usage from all apps and web browsing is compressed so that you do more with your Android’s mobile data month after month. And, if you travel abroad with your phone, the money you save could be substantial.
IF YOU'VE INSTALLED A CUSTOM ROM:
Some ROMs and kernels are missing important networking support that Android 4.0 APIs, and Onavo Extend, rely on.
If you've received a message saying your version of Android is unsupported, or if the application always says "service paused", please contact us via the "Feedback" menu item so we can help.
Trying a different ROM or kernel should help as well
This is confirmed working on AOKP
Not to fond of having a VPN on my phone...
VPN = all data traffic is passed through your server which could easily be picked out, filtered...etc...
The great thing about it is that you can turn it on and off at will, and it does not run when on wifi.
So basically for normal day to day use you can save your data plan, but if you have sensitive info you can use your secured wifi or turn off the service.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Hi All, i had a quick search but couldn't find the answer.
I moved my phone tariff to Giff Gaff - which is great btw.
I also own a WiFi tablet. so when out and about, using my phone as a wifi hotspot is the obvious and convenient choice. My Desire is on CyanagenMod (which includes WiFi Hotspot built in)
Apparently if Giff Gaff see you tethering they will remove your Unlimited internet, for the remainder of the month.
The reason is obvious, that they want more money out of you and want you to pay for a separate tariff for the tablet. I think this is unfair because not only would i now have to pay for a new dongle, but I have already paid for unlimited internet on my phone so should be entitled to my unlimited internet how i see fit (i'm not a big downloader, just surfing and emails). ALSO that's the "whole" point to a wifi hotspot - to use the 3g from the phone and extend it to another device.
I read somewhere that a rooted phone gets around this issue and the isp can't see that the data is tethered, when used in this way. Is this true? i'm already rooted. If i browse from my tablet over the wifi AP will Giff Gaff see it and stop my service?
Many thanks in advance.
Kev
I have no idea how mobile operators can detect tethering, maybe by browsers on the PC exposing the User Agent.
This app for example claims a separate tethering plan isn't needed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.tether
Probably the encryption provided by the VPN tunnel hides such activity, so mobile operators can't read the data or how it's being accessed. But use at your own risk
There's a Tablet plan on GiffGaff that allows tethering - £5 a month. It's perfect for me as I don't call/sms much but probably wouldn't work for you?

Giffgaff will know your using tether no matter what app u use. I am also with giffgaff but after talks with them had my tethering granted whilst using £12 goodybag. I found out they use a system that detects names of devices your tethering to. For example your PC name is steven-windows.. They detect name windows and block you for 30mins. However fooling the system also does no work if you have just Steven as windows name the giffgaff detection system will still block you because it is unable to detect the system your tethering to. Change it to Stevens-iphone and you won't get blocked. This is tested by me and works 100%. I however am immune to tether blocks as a deal has already been arranged for me to tether as much as I like on my current £12 goody bags for life. Become a valued customer and tether blocks can be removed from your account. I also use tether to get my xbox online which I will discuss in later YouTube videos

Reason = OP's problem is now resolved.
Seeking advice for the most efficient WiFi Access Point configuration on the vzw m7 - native CM11 WiFi AP vs. the Mobile Hotspot in NuSenseSIX; optimal CPU governor and other kernel options, etc.
I'm doing an experiment to see if it's feasible to use my vzw unlimited data plan and HTC m7 for all of my phone and Internet usage (personal and business usage). I work primarily out of a home office, and my LTE service at home is very good. It actually has more bandwidth than my landline ADSL+ service but with higher latency.
The problems thus far:
battery usage - it drains really fast and charges very slowly when using the mobile AP (kernel optimizations, etc?)
latency issues tend to annoy VOIP applications (can this be tuned or is it just what is?)
AP setup and teardown - since the AP needs to be active when in the vicinity of my home office, but ruins battery life when I'm out and about, I'll probably look to use tasker or something to fire up the AP when needed - suggestions welcome on the best approach
I'm not convinced I can cut the proverbial cord yet, but it's feeling like it may become possible soon.
