How do I know?
you probably need the engineering hboot, a quick google search will bring up a whole list of ways to fix this.
Hey I got 2.02 and can't downgrade, i tried thru boot loader and flashable zips but no luck, any idea how i can do it?
Thanks that worked the link is here in-case any one needs it in the future.
Its the HBoot in the first post the name of the .zip is: EVO_HBoot_0.76.2000.zip
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752832
In order to flash through pc36img.zip, you need toast's mtd-eng.img flashed to your misc partition. Pm me for questions on how to do this if you have any.
David, haus, it seems to me like we are the only ones really working in this section. Hah I see our three names in every other thread. I have waaay too much free time on my hands.

Maybe you can run the 3.70 ruu and it may work. But from what ive seen you should run an ruu that matches your radio, prl, pri numbers. Then update to 3.70 (if you want) by ota.
Evo - Myn 2.2 RLS 3 - Clockwork - HBoot .76
Thanks guys I will try that and let you know.
Ruu worked great thanks guys

Hello all,
I'm trying to assist my nephew in rooting his Evo and flashing GB to it but am running into issues as this is my first time rooting an Evo. I'm a thunderbolt user and have adb/rooting knowledge.
I used the autoroot.zip method to root and get access recovery just fine. The problem I'm running into is when I try and flash the MikG's GB rom (the radio flashes fine via hboot), I get an assert failed: write_raw_image("/tmp/boot.img","boot") (also tried re-downloading the rom as well thinking it was a corrupt download or the md5's didn't match). I tried flashing other roms but to no avail. My guess is the issues are lying in recovery, but can't be certain. At this point today, I'm going to try and unroot, and then re-root using unrevoked.
Another question is when I re-root, will i have to flash amon-ra's recovery via hboot as well? Any direction would be much appreciated as I'm stumped as far as the above error is concerned and haven't found any real definitive answers relating to the error. Thanks!!
here is the link i have for the AmanRA recover.. put it directly on your sd root.. and it should flash it self..

i personally rooted my evo using the revoked method.. simple and easy..

Thanks gonna give this a shot tonight, but hoping I don't receive that assert failed error message. I'm really hoping my problem lies me not using an updated recovery. My nephew is still rooted, so now I'm considering if I should unroot then start all over or just try an updated recovery option.
no you dont have to do it via hboot if you unroot then reroot with unrevoked you can get rom manager and flash a different recovery from there its super easy

Hi all. I'm new to this world so asking a, may be silly, question.
I play with roms every now and then. Change my rom from one to another in couple of weeks. I found STOCK HBOOT OFFERS LESS INTERNAL SPACE THAN CM7 OR CM7r2 hboots for custom roms.
I haven't experimented yet with these things. Can someone tell me how to convert my hboot to cm7 or cm7r2? I haven't done anything with my hboot so I suppose I'm on stock hboot. Difference between cm7 and cm7r2?
Any drawbacks of doing this? And will be able to flash app2sd and data2ext normally as I do now?
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
The difference is that the hboot versions offer you a diffrent internal partition layout
you can look them up http://alpharev.nl/ <-- there
also you can download it from there
You can flash it via fastboot or via the PB99IMG.zip method or you simply use android flasher(recommanded, it´s selfexplaining)
Is there any chance of bricking my phone?
When I switch between roms sometimes I get stuck in boot loops. *no worries*
I just pull out the battery. Reboot in recovery and restore nandroid backup.
In this case I'm cautious because if I'm stuck where would I go because I'm playing with hboot. I think I won't be able to access recovery in that case, right?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
You can brick it if your downloaded hboot.img is not downloaded correcly
If you are in a bootloop you simply go into fastboot and flash the correct table(hboot) and flash your ROM
and yes you will be able to boot into recovery(if youre in a bootloop)

If your download was corrupt or you pulled the cable in the seconds during the flashing period then you'd most probably brick your phone, but during my time on this forum I have never heard of any such misfortunes occurring..
By the way instead of posting try searching... this is just common knowledge info and can be found with a quick google search or a visit to alpharev.. it really isn't hard and not really worth posting a new thread about.

Just asking for information. I'll definitely flash a clean new rom.

Will flash that rom again but then I'll have way more internal memory as compared to what I'm getting now.

It's written on alpharev that check MD5SUM after downloading the hboot.
How do I check whether it's correct or not?
Don't wanna brick my phone :-(

The nandroid needs to have the HBOOT you had, when you made that nandroid.
So if U had STOCK HBOOT when making a nandroid wich U like to go back to, then flash STOCK HBOOT - BEFORE - U nandroid back.
So for now... flash the HBOOT U want, and then right after the ROM.
And if U wanna restore your nandroid, then flash STOCK HBOOT, and then restore nandroid.
AND remember... U CAN NOT FLASH RADIO IF U ARE ON CM7R2 HBOOT,
that will brick your phone.
So flash RADIO before, OR do the procedure with ADB if U are already on CM7R2.

Alright so I read about the md5sum check got the software to check it as well, even though it didnt match, I still managed to get the cm7/r2 hboot & flash insertcoin. I want to know how exactly we know if md5sums have matched cos i want to change my rom & i want to know how i can check if the rom is compatible with the cm7/r2 hboot.
Insertcoin freezes a lot on my phone I have no idea why.

This is very awkward if you still managed to flash cm7r2 even though md5sum didn't match.
I haven't tried it yet. Will give a try tomorrow.
Every rom has mentioned which hboots are compatible. You can check it from there.

You do realise... the point of an md5 match is so that you know the thing that is uploaded.. is exactly the same thing that you downloaded... so... when it matches "hooray lets flash away"... when it doesn't "holy mother of god get the hell of my computer"... you sure you used it right?

Well you did root / unlock the device correct? Additionally, make sure you don't have a bad download of the file.
Must be "s-off"
Just spent the better part of a week on this one. I also could not get past "parsing". I know how frustrating it is! I wasn't having a problem with Amon RA 2.3, I just wanted the new one!
I am using Nitrous 1.5.3 and posted to that board and got some great support as always. raafeall informed me that I needed to make sure I didn't need "s-off". I did. I had rooted using htcDEV so I was watermarked and "s-on". I followed Captian_Throwback's thread to rool back and rooted through Revolutionary to get "s-off". As soon as it was done I updated to smelkus Amon Ra 4.3!

I have a recovery already installed along with the fact I've flashed atleast 50

Do I have to unroot in order to change to a different root method. Since I used HTCDev method should I un do it to go back and do Revolution??

Yes, you would be able to flash ROMS, Kernels, and 'some' Recoveries with the bootloader unlocked by htc, that is why they did it. You cannot flash different Baseband, Radio, Wimax, etc. unless you are "s-off". And for some reason (I am curious why, now I get something to research!), smelkus' recovery requires that level of permissions.

Yes, if you use Captian_Throwback's thread. It un-roots to a "s-on", "locked", un-watermarked state. Then, you will roll back your radio and baseband, otherwise Revolutionary won't work.
Good luck. The whole process only took me a hour, hour and a half maybe, and I was tip toeing through the whole thing.
