When I make a phone call, my phone vibrates and 3g turns off, in the middle of most conversations, 3g comes back on and turns off the call. The only way around this is if my phones plugged in. Then it just vibrates and 3g turns on and 15-20 minutes later it vibrates and 3g turns off.
Any help would be appreciated. If I HAVE to go back to the stock rom I will, I'm just at my ends with this.
I am currently using Fresh Evo 3.4.01, and it was installed with a fresh wipe. Before that I was using Damageless 3.6. This problem occured both times.

You can only use one at a time. It sounds like you have an app that's trying to force your 3G to turn on and is dropping your call as a result.
Do you have a lot of apps with root permissions? They shouldn't be able to do that otherwise.
I have no apps besides wireless tethering that uses root permission. I have superuser 2.3.6.1 installed.
Ok so I just want to double check here, with the EVO I can multi-task like crazy -- even during a phone call unless it is an application that uses 3g/4g/wifi settings?
Thanks for the quick response, I intend to buy you a beer in about 10 days.
I just wanted to confirm. in my "bar" at the top.. the 3g is supposed to GO AWAY when I make a phone call, and come back when im done?

Yup, WiFi and 4G should be able to work when you are on a call but the technology doesn't allow for both 3G and Voice at the same time. Once you make a call your 3G icon should disappear and then come back once your call has ended.
And thanks for the beer It's always appreciated.
3g will turn off when using voice on a CDMA network. WiFi / 4g should work while on a voice call.

help me please, my phone is not connecting to the internet, it wont let me get 3g. i have mobile network checked but it still doesnt go. please help me.
Clearly your series of tubes are clogged.
IN OTHER NEWS:
How about you give us some details? Can another Sprint device in the same area get online? What ROM are you using? What kernel? PRL? Is WiFi/4G working?
Same problem. Well I can get on 3g if I keep clicking and unclicking the mobile network settings. It will just randomly get off 3g and give me no internet. My wireless works great. Even doing a restart of the phone, it will go to 3g for a sec and then drop. Looks like its trying to sync but the sync icon flashes one and off.
I'm using Baked Snacks 1.2.5, Kernel BS #2 (3.7.6b based off 2.6.29), PRL 60669, PRI 1.34_003

funniest one yet... first to have made me laugh out loud
i am using no rom, i never rooted or did nothing to my phone, i was messing with some settings and i went to sleep with wifi on, and i turned it off in the morning and i cant get 3g on my phone, i am running android 2.2-i have launcherpro but i tried on sense but still nothing, i have never installed any rom of some sort, i just updated my phone to android 2.2 on aug 3.
EDIT: i found a solution. i was snooping around google and came across this.
Hard Reset the phone:
1. Turn off the phone
2. Press and hold the volume rocker ( up or down )
3. While holding the volume, press the power button. You will be put into an admin screen.
4. Using the volume rocker select Clear Storage, then the Power button to select that option.
5. Volume UP to confirm your selection
Once the phone reboots, try going through the Hands Free Activation ( mine failed ).
I then updated my Profile and PRL by going to Settings>System Updates. I was able to update my profile and PRL with no problem. I now get my full data services.
i take no credit for this and just to let you know it deletes everything on the phone.(hard reset)
Did you try to Google Nav to the address???
Sorry...that's what initially went through my head when I saw the post =). Did you mess around in the EPST any? It sounds like you have some settings changed around. I'd give sprint a call (don't use chat support...those guys are morons) and they should guide you to the ##3282# and give you the information that goes in there. The only reason I say this is it sounds like something that was going on with my wife's hero a few weeks ago. Hard resets did nothing and it wasn't the ROM I was running. It was that little setting in the ##3282#.
OK, I found some other threads, and they have said to reload the rom, and go through the apps that were installed previously to see what is causing the issue. I've done that and I've gotten all my apps installed no issues for the last 1-2 weeks. My phone went dead and i rebooted now the 4g is turned on by default again. I rebooted again after turning off 4g and it is turned by default again. Is there a settings or some config file that I can change to prevent this from happening.
HW Ver: 3
Sw Ver: 3.70.651.1
ROM: Calkulin's EVio 2 v1.8
Kernal: HTC #15
PRI: 1.77_003
Some applications may affect it. Last time I installed call blocker and 2 other apps (don't remember which 2 right now) and 4G start power up on restarts. I just restore my nandroid backup and that is how I got rid of it. After that I installed call blocker itself and everything is fine.
Did some testing... at end just tried to enable and disable 4G. After that 4G start automaticly on phone restart. So its not any app, it is calkulin rom itself... once you start 4G no metter if you disable, on every next restart will start by itself. Hope fix is coming soon because I hate this, and I dont want to change rom.

This also seems to happen to me. Im running Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS5. I just turn off the 4g. And it doesnt do it all of the time, sometimes when it reboots, 4g will be active, then turn itself off and revert to 3g like it should.
When this happened to me I found out it was due to the notification bar widget controls
This happened to me on a stock Evo, not rooted. I took it to Sprint & they couldn't figure it out. Later, my 4g went out altogether, even without rooting the device. I still don't know why, but they gave me a new one.
After I updated to stock Froyo, my phone started muting during calls. No face pressing of buttons, and the mute button wasn't on. It just muted itself, and the only way for me to fix it was to turn speakerphone on and off. I thought rooting the phone and putting a custom ROM (Syndicate Frozen) on the phone might help, so I did just that. The problem is still on-going.
Does anyone else have this problem? Is there any solution? My Epic is my main phone and it's done this on a few very important phone calls a few times already. Before I take it into Sprint I just was curious if there's a simple, less having-to-deal-with-face-to-face-tech-support kind of way.
Thank you. I apologize if this has been answered already.
Is the phone muting your voice so that the caller can't hear you, but you can still hear the caller?
I had the exact same thing happen with my Epic and I ended up having Sprint exchange it for another phone.
Out of curiosity, what happens if you turn on speakerphone?
Ahh, yes that's exactly what happens. They can't hear me, but I hear them perfectly fine. Usually what I hear is, "Are you there? Hey, are you there?" a few times before I realized what happened, and no matter how many times I tell my mom to just stay on the line and I'll fix the problem in two seconds after it dawns on me what happened, she always hangs up in a huff.
When I turn on speakerphone they can hear me right away, then I just turn it back off and everything is fine the rest of the call. It doesn't even happen every call, which is the best part. I'll be in the middle of a 10 minute conversation and it will mute itself, then the next phone call will last 45 minutes with no problems.
Does the mute icon show it's on? Did you try backing up and simply switching roms? If there's too much trouble, odin ec05 and take it in to repair if the problem still exists.

Thank you for the tips, ya'll. I'm going to first update the ROM I'm using now (as there is an update out). If that doesn't help it's off to Sprint I go.
Thanks again.

when you go make sure its a corporate store they have the techs and tell them you already called customer service (dont bother calling them there gonna tell you to factory reset...........every time i have called i can hear that that most if not all are reading from a scrip) then the tech will try to get out of helping you by saying its the towers (bull sh$%) that the most popular answer you will get........ And for the bad news the phone that u will get is a referb
did you try to updat the PRL and profile?
AND FOR GOD SAKES if your rooted got back to stock 2.2 EC05
My phone did the same thing after the upgrade. It is random though. The phone mutes during calls randomly but mute button doesn't light and my face hasn't hit it. I've been trying to find out how to correct the problem, but my Epic was working fine until the upgrade.
I have I really annoying problem, when I use sense roms (only sense, not AOSP) my phone freezes almost instantly when going to sleep.
This results in the phone not ringing when people call me, and first receiving texts after i reboot the phone.
And the only way to reboot it, is to remove the battery.
If anyone knows what is causing this, please let me know how to fix it, this problem have made me miss many really important calls.
Thanks in advance
i had the same problem with official 2.2 sense rom (don't know with 2.3, i switched yesterday) , but only when i was on a place with bad network.. In big town like Paris no problem, but when i moved to smallest town with bad network i experienced same freeze...

Not anymore, because I had the same idea that that could be the problem, but it still freezes
Thanks for the reply
Today it has frozen 4 times.
And every time with massive battery drains, about 15% in a short period of time.
Anyone else having this problem? My E4GT's network randomly freezes. If I'm on a call and it happens it drops the call but I can't close out and end the call. If I don't notice it has frozen, I just won't get any calls or texts until I reboot. Data over wifi works fine. If it happens and I put it into airplane mode then off again I get the circle slash no network symbol. Nothing works besides a reboot. I'm running a stock kernel and stock rom on a rooted phone. Anyone figure this out yet? I came from an evo to a photon to this and the data speeds were horrendous on this phone compared to the other 2. With this issue the phone is almost unusable. I did an SCRTN reset on the phone and that took care of the data speeds. If I can get this resolved the phone will be great. Thanks.
