Hi all, quick and easy question.
I know the desire has a bad battery, but is it better than the battery life on the original diamond? Ie will a desire outlast a diamond with similar use?
They're comparable
For me, the difference between the Diamond 2 and the Desire is non-existant to marginal.
But the older Diamond did much worse.
yep this is the older diamond. i find it acceptable, so i guess the desire can only be better, which is good.
I had the original Diamond before I got the Desire and I noticed a big improvement, especially when using wifi.
For some reason wifi drained the battery in no time on the Diamond, with the Desire you can have wifi always on, it even drains the battery less than 3G data does...
good stuff, thanks owzie
I had a diamond and a touch pro, battery life on desire is much better

in my experience too! I have wifi always on and my desire lasts much more than the diamond with wifi on only when needed

Hi All
My Diam100 has the worst battery life of any HTC I have seen and is far worse than my Diam140 - which makes no sense unless it is the HSDPA part of the radio stack.
Also, My diam100 drinks the whole battery on satnav GPS inside around 3 hours. (I am using CoPilot Live 7.0)
I am running the european release ROM:
RUU_Diamond_hTC_Asia_HK_WWE_1.93.831.1.exe
with the 1.00.25.05 radio stack
any thoughts here? I wonder if it is worth turning off HSDPA?

search before you post
your not the 1st or will be last to start a thread like this
try a cooked rom...with the tweaks mine is now lasting 4 days
thanks, buddy
Will-do. I would dearly love to understand why the GPS is so power hungry and why HSDPA empties the battery so quickly.
I'll certainly try a cooked ROM or two now I have it unlocked and HARD SPL'd
Thanks for the advice
Yours
Leon

I have the same ROM and Radio ROM but mine hardly lasts 1 day ... probably too much WiFi searching?
Using 3g od HSDPA really drains the devices battery. I only use G (unless I'm doing some serious surffing - so My batter lasts nearly 3 days - mainly 2 though...
Cooked roms like Dutty's v.1.4 has tweaks to increase battery performance. And if you are not using the HSDPA or 3G services just disable it so you can save battery. Well I am happy with the battey life because it is better thn some Nokia's battery's/
Agree with all above:
Battery does suck.
Disable 3G, BT, WIFI, Beam when not using makes my batt last 2 days without making too many calls. Which imo is not that bad.
Last friday i used all of its features (heavy usage), 3G, GPS, WIFI and etc made alot of calls and the batt died about 10hrs later.
you sound surprised??!!
the diamond is one of the most powerful phones on the market at the moment being put up directly against the iphone 3g which has terrible battery life as well.
weigh it up, you have a 900mah battery over 520mhz processor vga screen oh yeh its less that half the size of an iphone.
i think it does ok

well said.
too right you are - I'll take one of these over an iPhone any day
since we are hot on the topic...
anyone tried the extended battery yet?
1350mah or the 1800mah from china?
i've heard that the .03 radio rom should spare the battery life a bit more than the .05., at least within europe.
I am just curious to know because im interested in buying the DHD but i've heard that the battery life is just awesome (insert sarcasm here), so if anyone knows, post a reply please
no It doesn't fit otherwise HTC would have supplied such battery
battery life is not so bad either, it lasts a day with a good amount of usage if you know what you are doing , improved with the 1.72 OTA update

Hello
Since one week i'm having 16hours battery till it drains completely, before that i got 1day and an half to 2 days, i'm using this phone for 1 year and i've never experienced that, so i decided to make a hard reset and see what i got, it stills drains in 16hours
i guess my battery isn't in it's full capacity maybe it's time to change for a new one
i'm in panic, its that a possibility that the phone become faulty or is just time to change for a new battery ?
Thanks
Edit : I'm using HTC Desire with Android 2.2 Stock Rom
HTC themselves IIRC made the announcement that after a year of battery cycle battery might need to be replaced.

Thank you for the answer, i've noticed that gsm only mode is the cause of abnormal consumption, i can't explain why since i have no apps installed, i did hard reset yesterday... now i'm testing with gsm auto prl and is saving a lot of battery but 3g network don't suit for me, it's very unstable here...
My desire is now 22months old. I've upgraded to BCM ICS. Stable enough to be pretty sure it'll reach a polished and reliable state over the coming months.
I've trialed ICS and it's great but the battery life often leaves me with a dead phone when out for the day.(highly annoying). This starts to hamper my use of the phone because i'm mindful of it running down.
My dilema is whether to upgrade my handset. I want the newer functionality of ICS and if I can get acceptable battery performance out of Desire I'll keep it for another year or so. I have just extended contract for another 24months sim only - got a great deal.
I'm trying to work out if a new battery will bring a decent (ie 30%+) improvement to the battery life.
There are plently of anecdotal threads about battery life such as this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1478267&highlight=replace+battery
Many people on this thread are claiming 2 days+ use which i have never seen. In fact using say just using navigation will flatten battery from 100% in around 1.5 hours.
But these threads are irrelevant since there are too many varibables ie usage and network.
3 Questions:
1. So i've tried the AnTutu tester and scored 391. Anyone else used this - please post your score, age of phone and max CPU speed?
2. If you are aware of a more popular battery testing util which has lots of stats for desire users please let me know
3. Has anyone replaced battery stock with stock and used some testing software to compare performance? What did you find?
I just replaced my two year old battery with a new HTC battery. And even on the first charge I got at least one hour more screen time. So if you're gonna stick with your desire its definitely a good idea to get a new battery.

Thanks. I guess i'd be interested to know if you measured the battery vs the old one with an app so i could compare. (my old battery may be in much better condition than you old one so replacing may not improve things much.
Where did you buy your official one?
Bump.
Anyone?
Hi, i'm planning to get DHD by exchanging it with my HTC One V.
Is it better than One V?
How is the battery life on ICS, i smwhr read it last for max.6hrs.
And r games like Temple RUN, GTA 3 and other HD games works smooth?
Please guide me.
I'm not sure how accurate these lists are but they show the specs for each phone.
HTC Once V
HTC Desire HD
I've not used the One V before. I still thoroughly enjoy my Desire HD.
I'm not really a gamer (on the phone), so I don't know about gaming performance.
With a bit of tinkering you can get a full day of heavy use and GTA3 runs great.

DHD 4life, imho it's better coz the 2 harware are similar but dhd has a much better cover and design!

It depends on which rom you are using and also depends on ur phone. . .
If u want a ics rom with more battery life try Ice cold sandwitch . .
Its a no sense rom with more battery life(2-3 days avg usage) and less bugs for me. . .
What should be for a year old DHD.

Isn't the One V just a repackaged DHD for the most part?

I've used both phones and If battery life is what you compare between the two you will be really disappointed with the DHD!

There's not much of a comparison between One V and Desire HD - http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3468&idPhone2=4575
Screen - Both same resolution, DHD has a bigger screen and a bigger backlight, so more battery usage there. One V screen is smaller, but is SLCD 2 which compared to DHD's LCD is better.
CPU & GPU and Chipset - Exactly same. That's why in my previous post I said the One V is just a repackaged DHD.
RAM - DHD has 768 MB, One V has 512 MB.
Camera - DHD has 8MP, One V has 5MP, but we all know that doesn't matter. See the link above for sample shots. Don't know which is better. DHD has a dual LED flash (extremely bright) while One V has a single LED flash, so the DHD has even more battery drain when using the camera with flash.
Battery - DHD has a measly 1230 mAh, whereas One V has 1500 mAh.
Now considering that for the most part they have the same hardware, especially the stuff that constantly uses battery (CPU & GPU), the One V has a smaller screen and a bigger battery than the DHD. Of course it has better battery life, there's nothing to discuss regarding that. That said, I prefer my DHD because I love it's build quality and the overall look and feel of it. Battery life is not an issue for me because I have 3 batteries that I keep with me when I'm outside, so that's 3*1230 mAh = 3690 mAh effectively. When doing a direct comparison of battery life, the One V will be much better, but something to consider here is that it doesn't have a removable battery. Once it's drained fully, you'll have to charge it. I just swap the battery in my DHD - makes life easier than having to run around looking for a charger.
So what you should buy comes down to these 3 things -
1. Bigger or smaller screen?
2. Heavy user or medium to light user that can make do with non-removable battery?
3. Software upgrades - The DHD will not receive any more upgrades from HTC, so your only source of the latest software is this forum and all the custom ROMs here. The One V will receive at least an upgrade to JellyBean, so you'll have a fully working version of the latest software without doing anything (if that's what you want).
I haven't spoken about the camera because I don't know how the One V camera is. You'll want to check that out too if you're a major camera user. The DHD camera is good.
And not to forget dhd has so many android choices from 2.2 to 4.1 while one v only have ics roms
