Hello
Since one week i'm having 16hours battery till it drains completely, before that i got 1day and an half to 2 days, i'm using this phone for 1 year and i've never experienced that, so i decided to make a hard reset and see what i got, it stills drains in 16hours
i guess my battery isn't in it's full capacity maybe it's time to change for a new one
i'm in panic, its that a possibility that the phone become faulty or is just time to change for a new battery ?
Thanks
Edit : I'm using HTC Desire with Android 2.2 Stock Rom
HTC themselves IIRC made the announcement that after a year of battery cycle battery might need to be replaced.

Thank you for the answer, i've noticed that gsm only mode is the cause of abnormal consumption, i can't explain why since i have no apps installed, i did hard reset yesterday... now i'm testing with gsm auto prl and is saving a lot of battery but 3g network don't suit for me, it's very unstable here...

Hi All,
When i look into (almost) all roms i see the problem with the battery drain problem.
To bad i do not have the knowledge to find out what to do.
But i think that some smart developers work together to find a solution about this battery drain problem.
So that's why i start this thread so we can discuss this

Thanks, but i don't like the interface.. want have the sense feeling
Drain
Tested a lot of roms with froyo and sense. The roms based on 2.06 base are draining relative more then the roms based on 2.04.
Above is not scientificly tested.
Charge to 100% , go to recovery , advanced , wipe battery stats. Enjoy greater baterry life

I had NONE battery drain problems on any of ROMS 2.1 or 2.2, and i did try alot of them.
Maybe theres something wrong with your phone itself (battery).
But definetly try wipe battery stats in recovery.
Since 08:00 morning had WiFi on.. network Data of... and now 12:02 battery is now 90%. DId have play with config the Tasker Tool (Great app).
Tomorrow i will do the test again but then with Network Data on and WiFi off.

people are having mixed results on the battery perfermance of adam's sensefroyo rom. i experienced a poorer battery life compared to eclair (i used Amer_v4 and the battery was excellent) but can still manage to last a full day usually. haven't tried out the froyo roms though.

btw aren't you're using opendesire?
I've changed about 8 roms, mostly used 4, but can't say there was a huge difference between them. 2 days of normal use, 1 day of heavy use.
Possibly shadowfrost and DeFrost 2.4 had the best battery life and I had the fastest kernel installed...
I would think that - some isolated problem aside - mostly it has to do with some applications/settings

sometimes my E-Mail application is consuming most of the cpu. It keeps the cpu at max frequency. Even if i try to end the taks with the app "system panel" it wont solve the problem. I have to go into the app and make a manual sync.
i also found out that automatic brightness is using loads of battery. since i set it to static I'm experiencing almost 2 days of battery life with moderate use.
I'm on Defrost 2.1
Hello again everybody,
Yesterday whole day online by WiFi. Using phone couple of hours and my Maildroid Email was active without prevent sleep mode.
Battery was empty after almost 17hours. (+/- 5% every hour)
Today. Wifi on. Maildroid now with prevent sleep mode ON.
Have unplugged the phone 4 hours ago and battery is at 75%
Tomorrow i will test this with Network Data on.. and without prevent sleep mode of Maildroid. And day after with prevent sleep mode.
I know for sure.. the battery will drain very vast for both situations...
BUT Ill let you know
EDIT 26-07-2010: Battery was empty tonight on 1:30.
NOW I do the whole test again but now with network data on and WiFi off
Ive had the opportunity to own a Nexus One at launch and a HTC Desire...I always found Android OS to be the issue whenever i had excessive battery drain.
Ive found my issue to center around the OS 'calling home to sync' (whether 'sync' option is selected or not)Initially, the problem was resolved by deleting all my sync funtions...but that was obviously not practical........ so now I keep my GSM data connection running and I get about 2.5 days on Open Desire (non HTC Sense).
AdamG seems like the guy who knows what hes talking about - His changelogs for OpenDesire actually hint at him having done some battery drain tweaking...whatever he did, he has definitely fixed it
Cheers

I've tried so many ROMS in the past few weeks to try to solve battery drain issues. On some, I could almost see the percentage dropping as I looked at the home screen! I even bought a new battery thinking I might have killed the original.
OpenDesire does seem to be the way forward re this problem if you're intent on the HAVS kernel. OD2.3a gave me almost two days of varied use.
However, and I know this is going backwards, an earlier DeFrost - the 2.1, is brilliant for me. I'm now at two days since unplug and still at an unbelievable 45% - yes, I know, I thought it was broke as well! For now, I'm sticking with this one. Everything I want works and I don't have to carry a spare battery in my pocket when I go out.
Hope this is of some help. Don't despair. You will find the one for you.
Cheers
I don't get why everyone says they have such a issue with battery.
I get about 2.5-4 days of use with DeFrost 2.2 and have done about so since DeFrost 0.9. I've had it up around five days once.
How are you actually using your phones?
It's not a "Froyo" issue.

It's very interesting to me how are YOU using your phone?
Come on, 4 days ? When i talk about 30m to 1h each day and using a phone little bit, i have at least 30-40% down.
u mean u only drain about 25% each day? are u actually using your phone ? wifi, calls, 3g ? or u have a expensive pocket toy just to show to your friends ?
Hi everyone,
So that's my problem : I've got some real battery life troubles on my HTC Desire for 1 month now. I'll quickly explain what I did back then and what I've done since then.
So my Desire is rooted and has S-OFF for 4-5 months now. I've tried many roms, starting from the stock one with root (froyo), RCMix S, CyanogenMod, InsertCoin, GB Roms, ...
I had a great battery life with the froyo stock rooted ROM, I could listen to music, go on Youtube, read mails, call, ... and my battery would last a little bit less than 2 days, which I find good for a smartphone.
When I switched to GB Sense ROMs, I lost some battery life, but I could still do a lot of stuff and have some 40% remaining at the end of the day. So it could last 2 days when not doing heavy stuff.
One month ago, I updated InsertCoin to a new version and since then I've got battery life troubles. I thought first it was obviously IC having battery troubles, but when an update arrived, it remained the same. I bought a new battery and nothing changed. Since then I've tried different ROMs like AOSP Cyanogenmod or stock rooted Froyo but the battery can't last more than one day even if the phone remains idle for the most part of the day (one call, 30 minutes of music and that's it... 15-20% at the end of the day).
I've tried to change the radio to an oldest one (5.11.05.27 previously 5.17.05.23), add to the stock froyo a powersaving pack (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997) which I think should be the lightest ROM available (stock froyo with old sense and a powersaving pack) and still can't have my phone survive the night ...
So what has changed in my phone and how can I have a normal battery life back ?
I don't expect you to exactly solve my problem, but it could be nice to give some advices regarding the battery or explain how exactly the modified kernels with smartass work or even the setcpu application. And how to monitor exactly what drains the battery !
Best regards
How long have you had the phone? And is it still the original battery you got with the device?

Did you calibrated your new battery? If not, here is a very nice guide for battery calibration:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/11823-battery-calibration-thread
Thanks for the link. I've tried to calibrate my battery, I'll see if it changes something, but from what I read, calibration only avoids your phone turning off at 10-15% of battery because it thinks the battery is empty. A lot of people say that calibration doesn't improve battery life ...
So I tried to find what really drained my battery. I spoke with a friend and he told me he thought our provider must have changed something in the network and that can use more battery.
So I tried to use my phone as usual but turning on and off the 3g network when needed or not and the battery life is back to normal.
It's strange though because one year ago I didn't need to do that to save my battery.
I'm wondering : if I try several radios, could I find one that uses less battery? So far I've used the last one available and the one that came with froyo 2.2 but I didn't try the other...

What most people forget is the tiny size of the battery Vs what we want the phone to do. If I were to only send a few text messages per day and maybe a 10 minute phone call it may last up to 3 days. As it is I have it checking Facebook, Google mail, my home mail and I leave wifi on 24/7. With this I can do 24 hours provided that I'm not putting the screen on to look.
Turn wifi off and don't look at the screen, battery suddenly lasts twice as long. The issue is that these phones are made to be able to access anything and your battery will die fasy when you do. Get a cheap £10.99 Nokia or Samsung that only makes phone calls and you'll save yourself the heartache of a phone that's a PC away from home.
Otherwise, swallow the bitter pill. You can't have both.

Thanks for the answer. I'm not asking for one week battery life though. I'm just pointing out that one year ago I had Froyo with root and now I'm back to Froyo with a brand new battery after trying some other ROMs but I can't manage to have my old battery life back. What I'm saying in my other posts is that I'm not using my phone a lot, I just write 2 messages a day and listen to 30 minutes music, I don't go on Youtube, I don't have push notifications for exchange etc etc ... Last year I had all of that and the battery lasted more than one day !
Cheers
What is the part number of your new battery ? Is it 35H00132-06M
I have got such one and results is very surprising

Nop, it's not very far, it's 35H00132-05M.
BTW, meantime I've switched to sebaastian15's ROM Runnymede, removed everything I could (Twitter, auto sync off, Exchange manual update, etc ...) and I'm very satisfied with the battery life And the Beats audio enhancement is very nice with some good headphones !
I'll just suppose that Android 2.2 + uses more battery than the old ones and if you want the same battery life, you need to turn off some stuff. I also think that Sense 3.5 is more battery friendly than 3.0.
Cheers
Hello im on cyanogenMod 7.2.0.1 stable build.
i had a lot of rom's before and always the phone shut off in 20% i read and Implement most of the guids here on how to calibrate and do stuff to fix it but without any succes, if anybody have idea it will be great thanks!!
I had the same problem,I think it was due to the battery itself being worn out, a new one was bought a couple of weeks ago, I've not run the phone down below 7% yet to see if it reaches 0, but it's already much better than before.
Before buying the new battery I tried various calibration techniques and apps, none worked.

I have used the "nexus one battery calibrator". Someone posts a nice how to. Search for "Advanced Battery Calibration for HTC Desire and Nexus One on NON-SENSE KERNELS". The important spot is ... "Make the calibration permanent (thx to user "theGanymedes"):".
Needs root.
Before it shut down at 10%. With a calibration it will be at 1/2%. It works for a half year, then you have to do it again.

Hi there,
so i gotta HTC one x last week, my first android..and I've gotta say that so far im hugely disappointed.
The phone has been draining battery like crazy ever since I got it. I've been charging it more than I've been using it, while it runs for no more than 4 hours when fully charged and heats up quite quickly. The battery usage options shows that the battery is being used mostly by Android OS and Android systems (over 85% for the former).
My friend suggested that i install a custom rom because it might be that the OS is corrupt. I bought the phone brand new and it came packed with an ICS stock rom. In the recovery mod the phone states that it is an S-off, with a CID #111111.
So i flashed the phone last night and installed a Jelly Bean Bindroid rom but the problem still persists. The phone drains the battery even when on stand by.
The phone runs fine besides the battery running out way too quickly issue.
Could anyone please help me with deterring what the cause of this problem might be and if the S-off thing has anything to do with it? and if so, how can I solve this battery problem? could it be a hardware issue?
Please help me. Im a NOOB at this!!!
Thank you in advance.
Might be a faulty battery. Look for a replacement OEM battery.

Check task manager too see which apps are running. Disable background sync if it's enabled, delete htc sense account if you have added it in account settings (it's a real battery hog).
Also, try to charge the phone to 100% battery 2-3 times and then check the battery performance.
Use BetterBatteryStats (search on here for the apk and instructions on how to use it).
Or, factory reset.

I have the same problem
Battery works normal only if i turn on 3g/2g its fell down from 50% to 0 in seconds.
I had this problem too about two weeks ago. My battery had been going empty quite quickly for some time already but it got really bad, and the battery even bulged, so the back cover wouldn't really close anymore. Obviously my battery was about to die, so I ordered a new one on ebay for 15 euros, because I was thinking of getting a new cellphone altogether, but decided to try just getting a new battery first. It was something with polarcell, but it's a decent battery and I can use my 3g again.
So I'm thinking you should try getting a new battery altogether, they're not really expensive, but the stock one lasts about 2 years or shorter in most cases.
