I had an app called "Apps Installer" that could install apk files from the sd card without needing to do any extra stuff. But it only works with 2.1 and doesn't work with 2.2. Is there anything else like this?
I think any file manager, but astro at least
Hi.. Market Place> ASTRO> find your .apk using ASTRO> Open App Manager> Install (Top Left)> Install.. you are done..
laterz..
Thanks, Astro worked perfectly!

How do I install apps? I looked on in the htc evo wiki and other q&a's but couldnt find it. Im new to the evo, so i dont know what im doing.
I download a com.[app name].apk file from my pc. I allowed unknown sources, now i dont know what to do.
You'll need a file that you can open the .apk, I use linda file manager (which you can download from the market).
Do you have root explorer or any kind of file reader app installed

thanks it worked great. So I'm guessing this is the procedure to installing apps.

Any apps you download as .apks you will need a file manager to run. Astro works well as well. If you are rooted, use root explorer.
Think of it like Windows. To install something you have to use Explorer and run the .exe.
http: // forum. xda-developers. com/showthread.php?t=926910 how do i put this on my phone? i deleted mine by accident and the phones file manager says "problem parsing the package". it doesnt even show up on my astro file manager. i have tried .apk installers from the market too too.
You should have an app installer built in.
Just download to your sd card. Allow in Settings>Applications to install from "Unknown Sources".
Then browse to the .apk using file manager or astro, and click on the file to install.
did all of the above still nothing....
You need this for Eclair / 2.1 ?
This one worked for me on Eclair, it is the Froyo version patched for Eclair.
thanks antibyte. works perfect.
I flashed mikfroyo 4.5 and I'm trying to install some of the sprint stock apps (footprint, etc...) I keep getting "application not installed" I'm using root explorer. Any suggestions? Thanks

You have to use the push command in adb. If you do a search you should find the parameters, I don't know them off the top of my head.
adb push /pathtoapk /data/app/
I think you could just use something like root explorer, es file explorer to accomplish this also.
You can use the above methods, or put the apk file on the root of sd card, go to your file manager, and install that way; works for me at least.
Also, if you have conflicting files they won't install either. Like, you can't install new versions of swype with old ones in
I'm running the gingerbread 2.3 and for some reason now I can't install apk files. My phone was acting up so the sprint store set it back to factory; I installed astro file manager and appinstaller but when downloading apk files from the evo itself, I keep getting the content unsupported message. Before I was on gingerbread, I had a different apk installer but I can't seem to find anything else in market other than the appinstaller (using the new market) and unknown sources is checked under settings
any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm having the same issue. havnt yet rooted my desire hd, dunno if this is my prob, only new to android, previous winmo user. can u let me knw if find a solution, and visa versa. cheers man
I use Super Box. It's an app in the market with a number of different tools such as apps2sd, apk installer, apk uninstaller, wipe cache, memory/cpu/battery logs, etc. One of those tools is an apk installer. It scans your whole SD card and displays all the apk files it finds so that you can easily select which ones to install. I'm not sure if you're having a system issue or an app issue. Try Super Box and see if you get the same message.
By the way, I used to use Astro all the time but have since switched to Ghost Commander for my file manager needs.
Edit: If your phone isn't rooted then you wont be able to tamper with any files within your root folder.
i downloaded the system dump, copied the SamsungWidget_ProgramMonitor.apk over to my sd card. opened up super manager (enable root funtion is enabled) copied the file and pasted it in system/apps (i aslso tried data/app). i scroll down to it, click on it and click install and it says not program monitor not installed.
any ideas?
no one knows how? :[
