Can someone help? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed mikfroyo 4.5 and I'm trying to install some of the sprint stock apps (footprint, etc...) I keep getting "application not installed" I'm using root explorer. Any suggestions? Thanks

You have to use the push command in adb. If you do a search you should find the parameters, I don't know them off the top of my head.

adb push /pathtoapk /data/app/
I think you could just use something like root explorer, es file explorer to accomplish this also.

You can use the above methods, or put the apk file on the root of sd card, go to your file manager, and install that way; works for me at least.

Also, if you have conflicting files they won't install either. Like, you can't install new versions of swype with old ones in

(Q) how do I make a zip file into a adw open app?

Sorry I'm new I am trying to get visionary back through obrian's post in devolmnent one click root, anyway it comes in a zip file so how do I get that to open like a normal app?

It's not actually a zip file; it's an apk that windows opens like a zip. You can either use adb on your computer to install it directly, or load it onto your sdcard and run it using an explorer like Astro or Root Explorer.

[Q] How to install apps?

How do I install apps? I looked on in the htc evo wiki and other q&a's but couldnt find it. Im new to the evo, so i dont know what im doing.
I download a com.[app name].apk file from my pc. I allowed unknown sources, now i dont know what to do.
You'll need a file that you can open the .apk, I use linda file manager (which you can download from the market).
Do you have root explorer or any kind of file reader app installed

thanks it worked great. So I'm guessing this is the procedure to installing apps.

Any apps you download as .apks you will need a file manager to run. Astro works well as well. If you are rooted, use root explorer.
Think of it like Windows. To install something you have to use Explorer and run the .exe.

[Q] busybox

Hi
I have a htc desire root with unrevoked 3.2
whenever i try to install busybox from the installer i get an error than there is insufficient space. it shows that actual space is 1555kb and required is 1000kb.
then why is this error??
also i tried accessing the system/xbin and system/bin folder through ES file explorer...and i found out that these folders are still not writable..
is this why i am not able to install busybox??
You have to S-off your phone first to make system/... writeable.
And next, you need a file explorer from the market, which supports root access. I recommend "root explorer", it's easy to handle and clear.

+1 for root explorer, no other I have used is as intuitive or feature rich, plus root explorer actually can access everything it says it can!
Have you tried installing bb from titanium backup? Just install the free version and hit the "problems" button and it should install. Unless you are out if space in /system - root explorer would also be able to tell you this.
Hi yeti.p , stringer7
Thanks a lot for the help..i'll try the aplharev.nl
I also tried installing it from titanium..and i was successful..but still i was not able to use certain apps that require bb as they were not able to find bb on my device.
Finallly i uninstalled titanium and tried installing all the bb versions from bb installer.

VVM question

Anyone have anyother workarounds to get VVM working? I have tried several methods and cant get any of them to provision. I am running CIUI which is a CM7 base with a MIUI theme. I tried installing the apk and then composing a message to [email protected]... it wont provision. I have also tried a couple different flashable zips iv found on here also with no luck. I have double checked the location of the apk and also made sure the permissions were correct.

If its cm7 u should just be able to flash gapps with vvm, right?
Yep, or add it to the zip before you flash it
will this work even if i dont have a tiback up for VVM data? my nandroid with my vvm is a clockwork nandroid and my Amon-ra wont restore it.
This fix worked for me, but you have to use Root Explorer (paid app)to get to a hidden folder. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547780 Good Luck!

You can use any file explorer with root access, such as astro file manager and es file explorer, both free, and es file explorer being my app of preference.
SOLVED: CLOSE>>>
All i had to do was flash GAPPS modified with sprint VVM and BOOM as soon as i rebooted it provisioned... i composed a message to myself and it came right through.

In es file explorer go settings>home directory and change "/sdcard/" to "/" and you can access system folders.

Need to change root file permissions

Hi, I need to give read and write access to a couple little files in my root directory, but I can't find a file manager app that will do this. Among the ones I have tried are Root Explorer, which was recommended, and File Manager Root from Fdroid, but neither work. Can someone recommend an app or another way to do this? Thanks!

In modern android versions the /system partition is read only. Either you create an overlay with magisk, or you boot recovery. Twrp has a file manager or you use adb shell.
