VVM question - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone have anyother workarounds to get VVM working? I have tried several methods and cant get any of them to provision. I am running CIUI which is a CM7 base with a MIUI theme. I tried installing the apk and then composing a message to [email protected]... it wont provision. I have also tried a couple different flashable zips iv found on here also with no luck. I have double checked the location of the apk and also made sure the permissions were correct.

If its cm7 u should just be able to flash gapps with vvm, right?

Yep, or add it to the zip before you flash it

will this work even if i dont have a tiback up for VVM data? my nandroid with my vvm is a clockwork nandroid and my Amon-ra wont restore it.

This fix worked for me, but you have to use Root Explorer (paid app)to get to a hidden folder. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547780 Good Luck!

You can use any file explorer with root access, such as astro file manager and es file explorer, both free, and es file explorer being my app of preference.

SOLVED: CLOSE>>>
All i had to do was flash GAPPS modified with sprint VVM and BOOM as soon as i rebooted it provisioned... i composed a message to myself and it came right through.

In es file explorer go settings>home directory and change "/sdcard/" to "/" and you can access system folders.

Installing non market apps

I've a bunch of apps on my PC which are no longer on the market. Is it possible to install these on a rooted sgs? I currently have a g1 which is rooted and enables me to do so but am changing phone in a few days time
You shouldn't need to root it (unless they are cracked/protected apps), there is an option on the phone to allow the install of non-market apps.

this is by far the easiest way
wifi FTW
Easiest solution infact imho is using ES File Explorer from market.
with ES File Explorer you can just install them through wifi lan.
Once you share the folder in your pc, you can always access it through wifi and with one click install, copy etc. anything.

[Q] voicemail on cyanogen

hey guys ever since i flashed cm6 i lost the sprint voicemail app. I tried using google voice but for some reason it cannot authorize my phone because the provider i have is unauthorized to use automated vm system. I assume the provider is cm6, not sure on that one. I found this link to get the sprint app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731637. From the forum theres the download update and then the apk. I assume i need the apk zip file. What I need to know is if i have to extract it or copy to my sd card before i go into recovery and wipe the dalvik cache and then flash it. thx
If you are using the apk, there is no need to wipe and flash. Just put the apk on your SD card, use a file explorer like astro, and install it. This is the easiest way to do it, when I did it though, I just pulled the apk out of a stock rom. Works great.

If you use a file explorer to select it you should get an option to install it..

Which file explorer?

Very sorry, this is a bit of a newbie question. I've updated to revo HD 2.1 and recently put on the power notification widget add on.
It says you can edit the widget.txt file in system/customize.
Well I got there but using root option on estrong yet I cannot see or edit the txt file. I've accepted superuser access etc. Selected Hiapk, didn't see it, selected cryogen and that didn't see anything either..
I also tried atsro and root explorer with no luck.
What file explorer people use to edit root system files?
Thanks for reading.

Why don't you edit the txt file on your pc before flashing the mod? ES file explorer should do fine...
Doh, I think it wad titanium back up causing problems, I reinstalled it and everything looked fine.
Out of curiosity, how do I explore system dir when on pc?
Thanks for quick reply.

Answering to your first post I will recommend ES File Manager too.

You can do it using adb, but you would have to work in the terminal (unless there's a GUI for it I don't know off?)
Regarding your first question: I would recommend Root Explorer, works like a charm

i think that ES file explorer is the best of the explorer
I use ES File Explorer and sometimes AndroZIP for unzipping archives.
Isn't he asking for a file explorer which will let him edit /system/customize/widget.txt?
I think the thread title is misleading.

Cannot move files to the system directory.

I downloaded a new boot animation. I'm trying to move it to /system/customize/resourses but es file explorer and Astros say file cannot be moved. I was able to move the original file out. Now I can't even move the original back. In ES I made sure the root explorer and mount file system boxes are checked. I have the permissions checked but still nothing can be moved in.

Does either of those apps have root permissions? Idk cuz I don't use them..but its easy to just use adb to manually push the file
I've never used adv to do this. Is there a how to somewhere?

I'm pretty sure that this app can accomplish what you're trying to do.

Use Root Explorer. So worth the $2. I don't use astro or ES, but if you can't copy or move anything in or from the root directory then / is probably not mounted as r/w. Look for an option while in the root directory that says "mount as r/w"

Yep root explorer is your best option. adb push can be used to, but its command line only.
Well I know what caused me to have this issue but I do not know the details why.
I was running the Mikrunny Odex ROM with the Red theme. I wanted to give the Coredroid theme a try so I installed the theme and this issue started. After many hours of trying to fix this I restored my backup from a couple weeks ago that has the red theme and all is good again. To reduplicate the issue I reinstalled the Coredroid theme and the issue returned.
I use es file explorer and i have no issues moving things to the system folders whenever I want. If its not working you may try to uninstall and reinstall the app and then go to the settings and make sure you check browse as root and mount system as r/w.

I did try this a couple times but still could not get files to move.
Hmm.. have you tried to delete es file explorer from your allowed super user apps and then open es file explorer to give it super user permission again.

Yep, did that too. I think it had something to do with a theme I installed. When I restored a previous backup I could use ES just fine to move the boot animation file.

That's what i was telling myself. However, after restoring my backup, I installed the theme again and once again I could not move files into the system directory or any of it's sub directories.

[Q] Trouble with hacked 4g hotspot opening certain web pages

So here is my problem.
When using my hotspot on my Win8 computer, it wont let me click through certain webpages like cashback websites like bigcrumbs and ebates and gets stuck on the redirection pages like "anrdoezrs.net" when tranfering me to a specific website. It won't fuly transfer me through to the store I want to gain cashback at.
I recently got the new computer with Win8 on it. Now that I have have tried my hotspot on multiple Win8 computers with it not working, I'm assuming it must be the problem. It ran perfectly with Win7 beforehand.
I am currently running [ROM]Phantom's Blazer Rom[Yo][8/2/12][v0.1.5][FF18]
I did notice on the tethering options of my phone that it did not list that it supported Win8. (Yet it does work for mostly all of the websites except the ones I'm speaking of).
Is there a way to fix my problem with the Rom version I'm running right now? (I know its a little outdated).
Do I need to update to a newer version of the Blazer rom? Or should I get a different rom?
(I need to have a rom that has the 4g hacked hotspot and it need to be able to be used with my PS3 for online gaming as well).
Thanks for listening
Do you have adblockers on your phone? This may be the problem.

Blazer rom has it built in. Delete system/etc/hosts file (filename is hosts) with a root browser. If you need it back, I posted an updated one here:

Root explorer is my personal choice as well as many others.
What TD meant, a root browser that will properly read the root directory. Some file browsers fail at that.

Root Explorer on the market is $3.99. Anything free available? Right below it there is a "ES File Explorer File Manager" which is free. Will that work?

Can't figure out where to go still.
I downloaded Rom Toolbox Light.
Then went to system, then to etc, THEN I get the option between "HOSTS" and the one under it is also "hosts".
They both have similar files in them, "text file, image file, music file, video file, zip file, APK file, script file"
Where do I go from her now? And what do I do?
Bump!!!

Bump some moar? Read some moar?
Seriously though, it's a text file. Just delete it or delete its contents.
Also, I believe using your phone as a hotspot without paying for it is violating your TOS. It's a good way to get kicked off the network.
