how can I modify stock rom and some other questions - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

* english is not my native language so sorry for my english *
Is there a way to modify stock my stock Desire ROM? I know there are lots of good ROM's but I just want to delete some stock apps nothing more..
cookmyrom.se there is a stock htc desire rom in this webpage but, I can install this only if I can update my android with this, there's no version information in this page.
I read somewhere that I can update my android with custom roms, but is it possible with stock htc desire rom? Like the one in cookmyrom.se .

Best thing is to root and then just use a Windows program called Android Commander. You can then connect and remove apps. It's basically a GUI for the ADB commands. Nice and easy to use
http://androidcommander.com/

Thank you but I don't have any pc with windows installed. Are there any alternatives for this on Linux?
Can I do this on linux with ADB?

Yes you can, just means needing to learn the commands...

Can I update my android after rooted it? Or do I have to install another ROM to update?

Porting Android ROM to Diamond

Hi all!
I've been part of your community for the last few months and am just beginning to get a grasp of how things work.
To sum up my situation now...I had the diamond, but it was broken and then bought the hero not knowing the diamond could be fixed. When I got my diamond back from repair though I thought about, you know, doing a little hacking on it.So I've been flashing ROMs and,of course, have tried android.
I know some of you will say "Why not root the hero and flash a custom ROM on it too?".BUT!I want to keep my hero stock, mostly because of warranty issues and cause I don't want to brick it (always possible, right?).So,having the diamond available for everything and having loved android after hating WinMo,I thought about trying to port an android ROM to it.I've tried all possible android "installations"(so to say,it's never actually installed) and have liked Myn's Warm Donut most of all. Then the idea crossed my mind...As there are so many wanderful android ROMs,why not have one on the diamond?
I am thinking about trying to port either Team Villain's SuperHero or Exit93's Kimera 1.8 from hero, but I haven't got any past unzipping the ROM file!
So,what next? What do I do?If anyone wants to help you're welcome! After all I have thought of it as a community work product!
flashing an android rom isn't possible..for now...but if you want to port an android rom you should start from a rom of the g1...then if you want to do system.sqsh you need a linux distribution and sqsh tools..to use it in a ext2 partition i don't know
I am aware of the situation my friend!I know that, unfortunately, android can't be flashed on the diamond...I just want to make it run on the diamond, through haret!
And for the other thing you said about my PC's OS,I use Ubuntu mainly(much better than Windows, believe me!) and Windows 7 once in a while...So,where do I start from?

the why i don't know but we can only flash a windows mobile rom..maybe there are some troubles getting working linux without using wm...anyway the developers like babijoe and phhusson are working to make this possible
is there a superlite wm rom that just contains the essential stuff to run android?

if you run haret.exe to start android, the WM will be completely shut down. wm is just used to initialise the stuff for android. u can use a full WM, no need to have an extralite one

This is in progress. I managed to get it running till boot animation and this - unfortunately - is relooping. But I've uploaded ito to the dev (=Myn) so he can perhaps fix this
Did you check with adb logcat ? The last time I had some loopings I had some wrong permissions on /etc/dbus.conf.
adb shell , chmod 755 on the file fixed it
Don't know guys,I'm not an expert!
One thing that has come to my attention is that your SuperHero ROM vatoloco might have problems only because of the Sense UI.Try deleting Rosie.apk and Rosie.odex from /system/apps and try again.Haven't tried it yet.Not that I don't like SuperEclair, but wouldn't it be better to have two nice Android Roms instead of one?

[Q] Rooting Driver questions&some flashing questions & also some rom questions
i readed this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824396
Question 1: but i can't understand what is the driver thing
do i install HTC sync then uninstall it
or i just download anything wtf
just tell me and explain me the driver thing
i just can't get to understand it
Question 2:when i download my ROM
do i just put it anywere in my Memory card?
Question 3:what is the fastest rom avaliable i want it containing the following features
Android GingerBread 2.3.5 or 2.3.4 or 2.3.3
over clocked(over clock increase cpu right??)
nice looking
no bugs
every thing works fast and nice
and maybe
a drop down menu
and a speed dial
and making me able to increase or decrease desktop pages xD
Dude, first tell me this - Are you on Android 2.1 or are you on Android 2.2.1? If you are on 2.2.1 that guide is pointless because it wont work.
1) It's just what it says. Download HTC Sync, Install then Uninstall. Uninstall will remove the program, but will not remove the HTC Drivers, which is needed for the process to be used further.
2) Just paste it to your memory card. Preferably, not in any folder or subfolder.
3) I use Cyanogenmod 7, and I would think it satisfies all of your needs EXCEPT speed dial. The same goes for other Android 2.3 AOSP ROMs as well. You can refer the list here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
(If you are on Android 2.2.1, you will have to use Revolutionary to get S-OFF. You can find an overview of the process in the thread above as well)

I am on android 2.1
and is the nightly Rom contains the features that i want??
or Joker one
or that hellfire one that i can't find its download link
All of them actually, since, in some way or the other, they are all based off Cyanogenmod 7 RC / Nightlies.
As I stated though, I am using Cyanogenmod 7 Nightlies, and am extremely happy with it.
But, dont forget to take a Nandroid Backup though, before flashing a ROM, because, if it turns out that you don't like No - Sense ROM's, you will have an easy way to switch back.

project alcatel ot 995 2.3.6 or 2.3.7

dear XDA i have found source files for this phone, i gonna try make a cm 7 rom for this phone.
I have a full clean back up, with a few apps: rom toolbox pro, busybox, script manager, v6 super charger(script), xbmc for android, snappz market and black mart, adw launcher ex, super user
there are a few basic apps (like everything form google) but everything is possible with rom toolbox pro.
I choose as a standard launcher for adw launcher ex it works fast as hell, i configure this back up to work fast as possible, v6 supercharger is standing on multi tasking this is the fastest mode for this phone i discoverd
i also changed the boot logo to blue matrix its nice xD
this clean back up has -->mistercheese<-- fixes as wel installed
the clean back up is rooted and as clean as i think its possible if anyone can do it better go ahead.
you can unroot with super onelcick and alcapwn exploit.
the battery life of this back up goes 1,5 to 2 days with out recharging and you can get it under 15% without automatic shutdown of your phone.
with this back up you can run n.o.v.a. 3 and shadow gun at maximum performance (if you like to game on your phone)
i can make a gb 2.3.6 or 2.3.7 rom i think, with all the information i have. its gonna be my first rom wish me luck!!
it will be finished when i upload it.
i dont think its possible to make cm 9 or cm10 because other more experience people than me has some trouble on making it
You can't bundle in paid apps like adw launcher ex and ROM toolbox pro. And you probably shouldn't have black markets as that translates to warez.
Before releasing your ROM, you better get rid of those.

i shall remove those called warez and paid apps and replace them with the free version of those apps
ROM:
replace them with: rom toolbox like, busybox, scriptmanger (ads), xbmc, adw launcher and super user <-- (all free)
still in the back up: most of android basic apps
scripts: v6 super charger
removed: black mart, snappz market
Back-Up
full clean back up is coming without any pre-installed software except adwlauncher and android basics
problems
i have a little adb problem on my linux mint 13
it says after adb devices
????????? permission denied
on my windows 8 pc it is recognized
i even rooted again with adb commands in windows
after that still same results...
i think reinstall a linux dis and start over is my solution

I have an old galaxy ace with android 2.3 which I am not using for anything and I would like to know if is possible to install windows phone on it, not a rom or an ui style but the OS itself.
Since I dont use it, there is no problem if something fails in the process, its just for experimentations
So, is it possible?

Install custom rom on Nokia 5.1?

Hi all, I'm looking at a way to install a custom rom on my Nokia 5.1.
It's kinda slow so I wanted to either downgrade it to Android 9 or to install any other custom rom. Does anybody have a working guide to point me to? Unfortunately there are a lot on the web that simply don't work.
Thank you a lot!
Nokia did not share the device tree with us, therefore no ROMs are available
I also got automatically updated to 10 and it started choking itself, so I uninstalled every evenwell app via APT and switched from default launcher to "Rootless Pixel Launcher"
