Porting Android ROM to Diamond - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

Hi all!
I've been part of your community for the last few months and am just beginning to get a grasp of how things work.
To sum up my situation now...I had the diamond, but it was broken and then bought the hero not knowing the diamond could be fixed. When I got my diamond back from repair though I thought about, you know, doing a little hacking on it.So I've been flashing ROMs and,of course, have tried android.
I know some of you will say "Why not root the hero and flash a custom ROM on it too?".BUT!I want to keep my hero stock, mostly because of warranty issues and cause I don't want to brick it (always possible, right?).So,having the diamond available for everything and having loved android after hating WinMo,I thought about trying to port an android ROM to it.I've tried all possible android "installations"(so to say,it's never actually installed) and have liked Myn's Warm Donut most of all. Then the idea crossed my mind...As there are so many wanderful android ROMs,why not have one on the diamond?
I am thinking about trying to port either Team Villain's SuperHero or Exit93's Kimera 1.8 from hero, but I haven't got any past unzipping the ROM file!
So,what next? What do I do?If anyone wants to help you're welcome! After all I have thought of it as a community work product!

flashing an android rom isn't possible..for now...but if you want to port an android rom you should start from a rom of the g1...then if you want to do system.sqsh you need a linux distribution and sqsh tools..to use it in a ext2 partition i don't know

I am aware of the situation my friend!I know that, unfortunately, android can't be flashed on the diamond...I just want to make it run on the diamond, through haret!
And for the other thing you said about my PC's OS,I use Ubuntu mainly(much better than Windows, believe me!) and Windows 7 once in a while...So,where do I start from?

the why i don't know but we can only flash a windows mobile rom..maybe there are some troubles getting working linux without using wm...anyway the developers like babijoe and phhusson are working to make this possible

is there a superlite wm rom that just contains the essential stuff to run android?

if you run haret.exe to start android, the WM will be completely shut down. wm is just used to initialise the stuff for android. u can use a full WM, no need to have an extralite one

This is in progress. I managed to get it running till boot animation and this - unfortunately - is relooping. But I've uploaded ito to the dev (=Myn) so he can perhaps fix this

Did you check with adb logcat ? The last time I had some loopings I had some wrong permissions on /etc/dbus.conf.
adb shell , chmod 755 on the file fixed it

Don't know guys,I'm not an expert!
One thing that has come to my attention is that your SuperHero ROM vatoloco might have problems only because of the Sense UI.Try deleting Rosie.apk and Rosie.odex from /system/apps and try again.Haven't tried it yet.Not that I don't like SuperEclair, but wouldn't it be better to have two nice Android Roms instead of one?

i dont see a super hero anything.. jus hero... can you send me a link to the one your using? like can u upload it somewhere?
what i did was download android 1.5, then downloaded super hero build and replaced files in android. then replaced again with the jackshero ski1.6. this method should give you all the files you need and also be the most stable. for me anyway. you will want to extract the resources.zip. it will make a media directory on the root of storage. then put everything else on the root of storage outside of media folder. then simply run heret.exe.

Edit your default.txt
If you want a different LCD density, add an option lcd.density=xxx after the ppp options. 160 is default, 128 was the old "hiRes". Google Maps only works at 160.
If you don't want it to connect to data, add an option ppp.nostart=1.
I dont know if everyone has this issue or only myself....
My screen seems blurry, especially on linux boot, I attempted the lcd density adjusment as per above but can not seem to get it as clear as it used to be when massey started the project.
anyone have idea's? Am I possibly making a mistake? is everyone running into the same results?

you have to have the latest pointui installed. then enable it in today settings and then after it boots up disable it. then install the point sense suite cab. re enbable pointui in today settings. then switch themes in the pointui settings to point sense.
http://www.pointui.com/products/home-2 download point ui first and enable it in today settings let it boot up and then disable it
Do you install it to main memory? Seems like too huge for main?
ive been testing this new Xrom build for a few hours and it has hero theme with clock/weather widgets and runs very smoth and fast. i recommend trying it.
all you should need is the latest mission package zip (includes android 1.5)
http://code.google.com/p/vogue-andr...e=mssmisonpackage.zip&can=2&q=&sort=-uploaded
then replace the system sqsh with the one below
http://code.google.com/p/vogue-andr...system-xrom1.4r3.sqsh&can=2&q=&sort=-uploaded
make sure to put everything on the root of the storage card
then run haret exe
you can download as many free apps and widgets as you want from the marketplace app. Also you can add as many pages as you want to the UI.

In fact, I read the forum for the whole day and what I have found so far is that all touch pro 2 android 2.2 ROM did not fix all problem yet. Therefore, I am asking for any ROM that works for all function even 2.1 ROM.
As far as I know, HD2 has launched the 2.2. ROM with all function working, don't know if that ROM can be applied on Touch Pro 2?
Thank you

The ROM itself has no impact on hardware functions working, and those are all kernel issues. It doesn't matter if you put the same 2.2 HD2 ROM on your phone (which is easy to do) the TP2 kernel is more advanced than the HD2, and therefore further behind.
I have android running on my TP2 (verizon). Its nice to have both OS's on 1 phone, but its still very unstable, no sound, gps, cam, bluetooth, screen goes black 1 out of 3 times, phone still Lags. Im pretty sure these guys will get it right in a near future, so big ups for them!

If you would read a little bit you would find out this doesn't even install to your internal memory(NAND), it installs to your SD card, hence why you can dual boot......

Well a quick tip is don't read the HD2 forum for a TP2.
There are people that use this with stock ROM/Radio just fine.
Many thanks....Im playing around with the Andriod ROM with my TP2 now....quite fun
Hope that the final version is coming soon~~
Is there any such thing as a "final version"?

[Q] Question

So i currently i have cyanongen 6 on my kaise but i want to put on it
Scoot CyanogenMod 6.1 but i dont know where 2 find a haret fully configured fo it
because my settings make the scoot s android just 2 boot and black screen whit notification bar
and something whit the sd that cant be read please help me
i use the phone fpr iternet games and stuff like these
What kernel are you using in HARET? The latest CM roms such as scoot's and mine require a .32 kernel. It will not work with a .25 one.
i dno
man i relly dont know i think i have the old one can u pack the haret in a zip and uploda so i can donwload it ?
Thats the thing, there aren't different versions of HARET really but HARET can use the different kernels. There isn't a different HARET for every kernel. You need to get the latest kernel and use it with HARET. You can get the latest kernel in the Kaiser kernel thread that is stickied and you can refer to an android install guide on how to update.
man i really dnont know what 2
download dont u have msn yahoo mesenger or anithing else so we can speak?
i really dont care if is youres or his i just want a good rom that has the cyanongen mod setings

Oh I don't care what you use, I am just a firm believe in Cyanogen Mod. Scoots is more or less a full featured where mine is cut down with bloat for speed and stability. Both have their uses and I would use scoots if I didn't need a fast and rock solid phone for my job, I work as an independent networking contractor so I need to stay in touch with my various clients.

Check out the chef central forum on this site. There is a kitchen that can be useful for modifying existing roms. Also, there is a topic titled "some advice" by cyanogen. That has some links that will help you get started. You should look into running some flavor of Linux (i prefer ubuntu, but you aren't limited to that distro). What is your experience so far?

I have no experience with any Linux distribution. Years back I always wanted to get into it just never did.. I'm good with taking pre existing code and learning it and adding to it.. I know I'd be going with a sense based rom, and try to add some functions from other existin told..
I will have to check out the chef forum here. I've never clicked over to it , bit it definitely sounds like it will ne helpful.. much thanks..

Remember be patient while you are making your ROM (some trial and error, best to work on a phone you dont rely on for important calls)...I have made my first ROM this weekend...I swear I had to cook it 50 times to get it working properly with what i wanted to change and add...so 50 ROM flashes=alot of time you wont be able to get calls... just a heads up. No, don't post in the Development forum, as this isn't Development (yet) - it's still a question.
I'll download your file and see what's going on.
EDIT: Well first off, the ROM is WAYYYYY too big. Did you remove anything from it? Did you set up any symlinks to the Data partition to make up for the space the EVO lacks on /system? How exactly did you port it? Did you only use the tools in the kitchen? Not only won't that give you a complete working (or booting, even) port, but you'll end up having duplicate files, for multiple devices. What kernel are you using? There isn't an ICS Sense kernel for the EVO, so I'm curious to know how you were able to mod the existing GB Sense kernel code (or maybe the modified ICS AOSP code?) to get it working.
EDIT 2: I see you're using the build.prop from the Sensation, which will cause problems. Also, the Sensation is a qHD device - did you resize anything for our WVGA screen? You're better off starting with trying to port the new Primo leak, but even then, you'll never get it to boot without an ICS Sense kernel.

No. If you're just starting out porting, it's best to start with something that actually has a chance at working, so that you can understand how everything works and what everything does. Technically, you don't even need the kitchen to port a ROM - it makes it about as easy as it can, while recognizing that it's an experimental feature with limitations.
There's a thread about porting different versions of Sense that should help you with the files that you actually need to move, and the content in the (now closed) kitchen thread should help out if you have any issues (sd card won't mount, sound doesn't work, etc.).
I recommend you first try to port something close to the EVO, like a Shift ROM. Try to get Sense 2.1 working on the latest OTA. I bet that'll take a whole lot of work, if you can do it at all (different versions of GB). If you do, you'll definitely have some skills/tools that can help you in your quest for ICS Sense.

Take it from someone who had cooked and posted literally hundreds of rums for multiple devices, and don't post anything until you've built at least 20 different (semi-)working roms for yourself first. You are opening the door to major criticisms (*****ing) and a lot of support work (which you may not be ready for) if you make your work public too prematurely.

One major problem is there's not a fully functional kernel to boot ICSense soooo that's the first issue here, next would be if the dpi and images haven't been resized to match the evo's resolution there will be major visual flaws and possible won't boot, if you really want to start porting roms I'd suggest starting with a GB rom since they are stable and there's alot more info and tools out there to get it ported
