[Q] does evo latest ota support bluetooth keyboards - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

do evos or android 2.2 in general support text input with bluetooth keyboards like this? if not is there a way to patch/fix it to allow them?
btw i mean latest ota as in fresh 3401 rooted unlocked, not regular stock unrooted locked

The answer to your original question about ota update and bt hid, I found the answer to be no. This is something I look forward too. Cm6 is the only Rom I'm aware of that supports bt hid and I tried it myself and it worked very good.
As far as the rest of your questions I don't know.

Changing bluetooth stack

Is there any way to change the bluetooth stack when rooted? Or do you need to find a rooted rom with an alternative bluetooth stack already installed?
The reason for asking is the default 2.1 and 2.2 desire roms have a bluetooth stack that prevents bluetooth keyboards being connected. I gather some rooted roms with alternative or modified bluetooth stacks allow it to work, when using an app like Bluekeyboard JP.
So ideally I would be able to use a 2.2 rom with an alternative bluetooth stack.
I'm having the same problem, only my intentions aren't so noble as a keyboard. I want to be able to connect a Wii remote to play games. Apps like wiimote let you do this but problems with my 2.2 leedroid htc bluetooth stack mean it won't see it. I believe the problem mainly affects senseui based roms, which are the kind I prefer :S
Can anyone help please? I'll be very impressed if someone can figure this out because I believe its something HTC have done, not a 3rd party
Is there a fix for this?!
No fix.. and it is not possible. You need to use unofficial no-sense rom.

Are there good no-sense froyo roms out now? Or is it a case of waiting for a version of the official froyo rom to have sense hacked out?

Read it? If you had you'd see I've already searched for, read and replied to that post...
*Bump* Has someone managed this?

HID Bluetooth ?

I know that sense blocks HID Bluetooth, like a wiimote and most Bluetooth key boards and all of that. As of right now I am rooted and am using the fresh evo Rom, I like the feel of the sense UI for now but would like to get a wiimote working as well as a Bluetooth keyboard can someone please point me in the right direction. And I am sorry if this has been answered but I really could not find an answer in my searches.

Right now, here's your only option.
Flash CM6.
Sorry. It's not that sense blocks it, it's not even included by HTC.
Thanks I guess I'll just wait a bit till CM6 has wimax working I live in a 4g area and use it all the time hopefully something comes out that is exactly what I need but for now i'll live without the Bluetooth devices

There IS a program in the market and 1 specific keyboard that will work, but it doesn't use the HID profile. The app uses SPP.
Probably NOT what you're looking for. It's not what I'm looking for.
BTW, hid stuff works on CM6. I flashed it just to try.

[Q] Do apps get affected by going from 2.2 to 2.3

Hey guys (and girls?), I got my EVO 4G and clearly loving it running froyo. I am thinking on going to gingerbread but I'd like to know if apps get affected by that. Does it depends on the app or is it generally the same?
Generally speaking, no, they do not. Happy Easter.

Some apps are not yet compatible with Gingerbread. I haven't had any issues yet, though.
i've never noticed any issues. just make sure you backup apps with titanium backup, NOT SYSTEM DATA, and wipe when you flash over. may i reccomend cm7?
Ran into my first non GB compliant app the other night. I use the Xfinity TV app (Comcast Cable) and when I am on MikGinger it doesn't work. It automatically closes itself as soon as it starts too load. Then I saw some reviews and people said it didn't work on GB at this time.

Titanium's latest update makes it broken on gingerbread, but okay on 2.2.
They'll fix it soon, but until then, find a prior build and use it.
I'm running the 2.3.3 gingerbread leak on my Evo, have been for about a week now(since TMartin put it out on XDA) and so far all my apps still work. My Xfinity TV app works fine. I actually just set a recording using it a few minutes ago. But I have discovered that the front camera no longer works in yahoo messenger video chat. However I'm not sure if this is gingerbread related or not. I posted a thread about it in the general section to see if anyone else if having the same issue.

Really? Thats weird. The Xfinity Mobile app works fine, can set recording etc off that. But my Xfinity TV app, the one that changes channels, will close immediately after signing in.

Broken in what manner? My TB works great with the gingerbread rom I'm using (Salvage-Mod 1.21).

I have found that Orblive doesn't work. It doesn't even show up in the market.
The only problem I had when I switched to GB from froyo was TB wouldn't restore my txts but other then that I had no issues

Bluetooth keyboard

I am going to test out a menotek keyboard tonight. I am posting to see if anyone else has had any luck with a bt keyboard on our phone. Thanks.

Sadness. I tried to pair this using the native driver and Teksoft drivers, with no luck. Teksoft looks okay if you are willing to shell out 10 bones for drivers.
If anyone finds a keyboard that works, or has better luck than me I would love to hear it.
Android 2.x doesn't have the HID bluetooth profile. 3.x apparently does. Supposedly someone hacked in the profile for 2.x somewhere but I forget where I saw this. Chances are we won't see this on phones until the merge of the 2.x and 3.x branches.
Thanks, that is really helpful. It would definitely be a nice accessory, because I do edit the occasional google doc on my phone.
I know this because I looked into it myself I've started to see some nice compact folding keyboards for iphone and ipad that worked through bluetooth and I was curious if any worked with Android. Sadly, all the reports I saw were for the 3.x tablets.
Well, hopefully this gets fixed with ice cream sandwich, which seems a long way off.
By then, I will be rooted running CM.

Maybe it will work on CM7? I know at least with the first incredible, some Bluetooth functionality like using a wii controller for emulators, worked on CM7 but not sense.
It's possible, but may still require some hacks. The key thing needed is HID (Human Interface Device) support. This is where are our keyboard and mouse drivers come from.
BUMP.
Now that we all have root - anyone know how to get the right kind of drivers to make a BT keyboard happen?
Try CM7. It's supposed to have a Bluetooth stack that supports HID stuff.

[Q] My Epic as just a Android PMP?

So I will be upgrading my phone in Sept and want to give my son my Epic. I'm currently running latest ACS rom, but was wondering if there was a version without the phone / Messaging software installed or if there was a safe way to remove these features myself? Reason being is because when I give him the phone, it will be deactivated.
Thoughts?
Thanks!

Install the free Applocker and lock it along with Settings so he can't uninstall it without a password or code.
LOL
You could flash the midNIGHT BYOR ROM. It comes with only the base and you have the option of either installing "standard" apps or just the ones you need. Fast, stable and based on EC05.

If you're rooted, just uninstall (delete) Messaging.apk and Phone.apk from /system/app with root explorer or just use uninstaller for root and delete phone and messaging.
I want this too. But if u don't find a way to turn off the radio the phone will constantly search for a signal. And when in airplane mode u can't use bluetooth

Right... Searching for a signal will kill it. Airplane mode is interesting and I doubt at this point my son will need bluetooth.

Actually he could really turn this thing into a game machine with bluetooth and sixaxis control app from the market as well as some emulators.... about 3 hours of play time overclocked to 1.2 and smooth as if it were really that system

Sorry to revive an old post, but I find it interesting that there is only this one post on taking an old Android phone and making it into a pure PMP. I'm currently looking to do this with my old HTC Aria and was looking for suggestions for apk's to remove once I get a lean ROM installed.
Also, I noticed in an above reply that someone said BT wouldn't work with airplane mode on. It does work with my Aria.
Thanks for any suggestions
I can confirm that bluetooth works while in airplane mode on CM7
