HID Bluetooth ? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know that sense blocks HID Bluetooth, like a wiimote and most Bluetooth key boards and all of that. As of right now I am rooted and am using the fresh evo Rom, I like the feel of the sense UI for now but would like to get a wiimote working as well as a Bluetooth keyboard can someone please point me in the right direction. And I am sorry if this has been answered but I really could not find an answer in my searches.

Right now, here's your only option.
Flash CM6.
Sorry. It's not that sense blocks it, it's not even included by HTC.

Thanks I guess I'll just wait a bit till CM6 has wimax working I live in a 4g area and use it all the time hopefully something comes out that is exactly what I need but for now i'll live without the Bluetooth devices

There IS a program in the market and 1 specific keyboard that will work, but it doesn't use the HID profile. The app uses SPP.
Probably NOT what you're looking for. It's not what I'm looking for.
BTW, hid stuff works on CM6. I flashed it just to try.

CM6 Bluetooth HID... Is it in his rom?

I'm using CM6 stable and want to pair my mighty keyboard (apple) to my Evo for note taking during my 6 hour lectures in microbiology class. I did some google searches and found that it is supposed to be included in CM6 buy when I try to pair and it doesn't work. Can anyone confirm this?
Is there an app that will trick the pairing process and not require a pin?
I really would like this because my Prof. rambles and my hands are getting tired trying to catch up.
By the way I found this link but assuming I comprehend what I read this only works with Android Dev phones. Maybe someone can figure something out by reading this website.
http://i-miss-erin.blogspot.com/2009/09/connect-bluetooth-keyboard-in-android.html
Why would it work on a dev phone and not a release phone? What makes it different. I'm tempted to try it even though it says dev phones only but I don't want to mess up my phone. Any have brass balls?

I am using a Apple Bluetooth mouse and keyboard no problems On cm6.
My only problem was to disable Bluetooth on my desktop to keep it from auto paring.
Do u see it in the list?
Yes I do but when I click on it it doesn't pair. I've tried 0000, 1111, 1234. They don't work. Are you using CM6 Stable or nightlies?

I'm also using an Apple Wireless Keyboard. I believe first you type a code on the keyboard, then you type it in CM6. This was the trick to getting mine to pair, at least.
Not sure if you hit enter after typing the code on the keyboard.
/edit: Using CM6 Stable.
That worked! Thanks! Any note taking app you recommend besides Evernote?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Well, I do use mine for taking notes in class, but they're all for math courses lol. So I use an app called "VerbTeX", which is basically a LaTeX file editor. Pretty great, if that's what you're looking for.
If it were just for text, I'd probably use something like GDocs.
I always used a tape recorder (10 years ago) and sorted it out later. Maybe a voice recorder app or a digital recorder would be better.

MAC keyboard

I'm wanting to get a Bluetooth keyboard and I know the MAC wireless keyboard is Bluetooth. Has anyone use one or is it compatible?

I use my Apple Mighty BT Keyboard and it works perfectly. I'm using CM6 and I know that ROM had an upgraded BT stack. I'm not sure if other ROM's have it enabled.
BT keyboard + Evernote = WIN

Same here, the IMAC keyboard and mouse both work with CM6. Mouse is not much use now, but it does work, just don't orient the device horizontally, last I tested, CM6.0 it doesn't alter the mouse directions with the display.
CM6 is the ONLY ROM currently that will allow you to use it. It won't work stock, or with any other custom ROM. There is one other AOSP rom that someone was working on, but it had the same flaws as CM6, i.e. no 4G, HDMI, FM radio etc.
I would go with CM6 if you wanted this.
so me running fresh 3.1.0.2, that keyboard would not work? only CM6? :-/
Ideas on another keyboard? Id want to keep my phone horizontal with the stand and use it to take notes on in class. It would keep things simple than taking a netbook with me to class
Nope no other way. There is an alternative though which requires you to be at a computer but lets you tour from the pc and display on your phone.
Check out AndroidCentral.com its on the front page. It must likely won't help but its a cool read.

I thought that was only with the new sense (htc desire series).

Has anyone tried?

Just wondering if anyone has tried any Bluetooth keyboards and if so what models

Actually, for some reason, the gmail button doesnt work :-/ But the other back, home, browser, etc buttons work
Microsoft Bluetooth mouse and keyboard both work. I'm going to play around with the keyboard layout files and see if I can improve it but it works as is.
I've tried to connect my microsoft keyboard and it doesn't get seen, did you do anything specific to get it to connect?

Any specific ms models? I'm going to my local best buy in the morning... doubt they will have accessories but I'll see... I may end up with a xoom keyboard or a genuine sammy kyb if they have them in stock tomorrow...
Freedom Pro keyboard works
I decided not to link all the threads I found for bluetooth devices... A conservative count would put the number of bluetooth device threads at about 1:12... that's pretty good odds that you did not search, let alone read before posting.
Just a thought. BTW, it helps to put a topic in the thread title.

Bluetooth keyboard

I am going to test out a menotek keyboard tonight. I am posting to see if anyone else has had any luck with a bt keyboard on our phone. Thanks.

Sadness. I tried to pair this using the native driver and Teksoft drivers, with no luck. Teksoft looks okay if you are willing to shell out 10 bones for drivers.
If anyone finds a keyboard that works, or has better luck than me I would love to hear it.
Android 2.x doesn't have the HID bluetooth profile. 3.x apparently does. Supposedly someone hacked in the profile for 2.x somewhere but I forget where I saw this. Chances are we won't see this on phones until the merge of the 2.x and 3.x branches.
Thanks, that is really helpful. It would definitely be a nice accessory, because I do edit the occasional google doc on my phone.
I know this because I looked into it myself I've started to see some nice compact folding keyboards for iphone and ipad that worked through bluetooth and I was curious if any worked with Android. Sadly, all the reports I saw were for the 3.x tablets.
Well, hopefully this gets fixed with ice cream sandwich, which seems a long way off.
By then, I will be rooted running CM.

Maybe it will work on CM7? I know at least with the first incredible, some Bluetooth functionality like using a wii controller for emulators, worked on CM7 but not sense.
It's possible, but may still require some hacks. The key thing needed is HID (Human Interface Device) support. This is where are our keyboard and mouse drivers come from.
BUMP.
Now that we all have root - anyone know how to get the right kind of drivers to make a BT keyboard happen?
Try CM7. It's supposed to have a Bluetooth stack that supports HID stuff.

[Q] bt keyboard INC2 with evervolv 3.2

Hey All,
As the title (I hope) indicates, I'm looking to get a bluetooth keyboard to hook up to my INC2. I (suppose) foolishly bought a keyboard already (Motorola Xoom) and I thought no prob- updated software, bluetooth is bluetooth, and I should be good to go. Not so. I can pair them, but I cant get they keyboard to actually work as an input device.
Also, I cant seem to pair that keyboard (successfully) with my PS3. I dont think I'm just bad at pairing things, as I'm able to do it with tons of other stuff, so I'm looking for advice. Did I pair it wrong somehow? Do I need to get a different keyboard? Will the INC2 just not work with keyboards?
Thanks so much!
Sleepraider
nothing?Any thoughts? Is the keyboard crap? Is this a obvious thing that I missed? Any keyboards known to work that are relatively inexpensive?
See if you can find an app on the market that supports bluetooth keyboard support, Most often what you need is a substitute keyboard app, kind of like when people hook up PS3 remotes or wii motes to their phones. Here's a link to an app I just quickly searched up as an example. I can't personally vouch for it though.

Alright.. I'm giving it a quick try right now. Had thought I tried that app, but I tried a ton w/o any success., so I'll try again.
FWIW, this is one of the most important features for me at this point, so I'll do any ROM the INC2 can handle if it means making this work.
Sleep
Tried it.. and pretty much every decent looking app I could find in the app market.
Testing now to see if I can pair my new keyboard to my desktop via bluetooth and if that works. Maybe the keyboard is actually dysfunctional?

I'm back and I wanted to supply more info. I connected the bt keyboard I just bought with my desktop.. it works great on there.
I connected my desktop BT keyboard to my phone-- same prob; it pairs, never connects. Looking much more like a phone/software issue IMO.
Wondering if this is the phone (shouldnt be, right?) or if this is my ROM. If its the ROM, any ROM that might work? Any solution....at all?

The only way you're going to know if it has any possibility with working is if you can pair it on the stock official (or close to official, ie...andybones stock) software. If it doesn't work there, it's highly unlikely that it will work on any rom. If it does, then you'll probably have to just try each rom one at a time. I don't think that's a highly sought after feature for other people though, so it's unlikely much development has been put into it.

Sadly, I think this is true and I just need to find a different solution. I'm a grad student and where I work blocks my gmail, which was the main reason I wanted the keyboard, so I could type well formed responses while at work when not busy, and not have to wait to do all my "student work" when I get home from work. I guess I'll likely end up finding another solution. Perhaps I can use my netbook with my phone and get a wifi hotspot going to be able to answer emails? I guess I need to toy a bit more.

I've tried all of them.. there's nothing wrong with them.. I just dont like them. I'm an excellent typist with a typical keyboard, but I admit I just suck with touchscreen keyboards...
No worries, I just played around a bit and was able to easily set up my netbook to use for gmail while I use my phone as a hotspot. If anyone has a good app recommendation that will allow me to track how much data that actually uses, I'd love that. Seems like a much easier request than the BT keyboard request.

Now I'm thinking about it.. what if I installed Ubuntu.. which would likely have the drivers for bluetooth. I'm a very experienced linux user and have 5+ years of ubuntu experience. Perhaps using ubuntu on my phone is the workaround I've been looking for! Do we know if you can use USB keyboards (I'd expect this to be true) when you install ubuntu alongside? Anyone done it well on a DINC2?
Don't know if you found a solution yet but i found this
