How can i turn the Security back on? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so i need to return my phone and i want to make it as close to factory settings as possible. How can i turn the security on the phone back on and where can i get Current Stock OTA?

You need to run the ruu but before that flash s-on. Links are in the wiki that's located in the incredible general section I believe

You need to be bone stock to get upgrade, but you can and should have s-off from unrevoked forever. Use my sig link if you need more help.
Thanks....i've got s-off so i downgraded back to the original 2.1 and everything that comes with it. Now the waiting game begins...
Good Luck with the waiting game, I'm waiting myself
I was told you just need to be on 2.1 with stock recovery and radio. Removing bloat is fine. You want to apply s-off so can get root again the update.

Still no way to root successfully on new OTA?

I see people having problems with every method going. Just wanted to make sure I am not missing a thread somewhere as I can only view on phone app right now. I want to update but wont risk losing root.

If you're rooted just flash a rooted rom, there's a few out already.
And: post in the right section.

My bad on posting in the wrong place, im on my phone and figured someone in this section would be the first to know, I appologize. I flashed a rom already with the new ota but I want to update the radio and 4g too and I read that aside from the possibilites of having 4g connection issues via bad mac addresses the new radio will cause problems with my old hboot and once I go to the 2.10 version rooting is not possible. I was just looking for any info saying otherwise but its a bit hard on the phone app to scroll through everything. I'll just wait until someone gets the root working and then unroot via s-on ,ruu back to stock 3.29 and dl the ota via HTC software update. Thanks for the time.

How to get back to stock?

How would I go about getting this phone back to stock, unrooted, so I can sell it?
Go to dougpiston.com

Download THIS FILE (172.5MB) and place it on the root of your SD card. Reboot your phone into HBOOT (Bootloader, NOT RECOVERY!!!). Once the bootloader checks the image, it will ask you if you want to update. Select Yes and let the update run. After the phone reboots, you will have a stock, factory Droid Incredible running the November update.

Gingerbread update OTA update and rooted question

So my wifes phone is rooted with s off. When she receives her update will she be able to update and then I can just reinstall Su and CWM correct?
Thanks

CWM will stop your phone from updating from the OTA.
It downloads fine, but when it tries to reboot to apply the update it looks for the stock recovery. You'll need to go back to stock recovery before you update.
Going back to stock requires that you use the RUU found here which will bring you back to stock recovery correct, but you will still retain S-OFF.
Running the RUU WILL keep S-OFF. But on dougpiston's site there is also a stock recovery you can flash in hboot if you don't want to run the RUU. I haven't used it though. So I can't really say anything about it.
That should work, S-Off/S-On settings are only changed by Unrevoked apps.
The RUU should restore your bootloader, OS, and recovery back to factory.
If that doesn't work, I use the zip files off of dougpiston.com to recover my phone.
Final question. If I apply the RUU will it wipe her phone or will she retain all her apps and such.

The RUU will wipe EVERYTHING! It takes it back to factory settings. Out of the box. Minus S-OFF anyway.
I have a ROM Manager restore point with stock froyo, but rooted. If I restore to this, will I be able to get the OTA gingerbread update?
Why do you all want to receive the ota? Just wait until a devs gets it and makes a rooted flashable zip. Updating the ota will s-off and make you unrootable. Then your gonna be stuck with the crapware Verizon tries to force down our throats. The will be nothing special with the ota except the 50 mb of wasted space for crapware. Just hold on to your shorts and let the devs do their work!

that won't do anything to recovery, you must flash the RUU, or something similar to get back to stock and for it to work.

benefits that i mainly want is the tv out (no real use for that anyway, since i'm not the kind of person who watches tv, let alone 80% of the time i moderatly use my phone.
I'm sure there will be a way to get the tv out being rooted.

S On but still rooted

About two weeks ago I was going to unroot my EVO but I changed my mind, but I had gotten as far as turning my s On. But it's still rooted I have since changed roms and downloaded root only apps does that need to be off? and that its still on will it mess up anything or charge me for hot spot? And if so how do I turn it off? When I turned it back on I was running froyo 4.5 now I'm running Mikk G 2.5

If you want to regain s-off, it's simple. Download the unrevoked forever zip & flash it through recovery. Having s-on will prevent you from flashing unofficial PC36IMG zips through hboot, and possibly keep certain apps from working properly.

If you have S-On but a custom ROM you are fine. Use your hotspot for free

In order to unroot you need to RUU the phone. either the PC36IMG.zip or the RUU.exe which ever you did the first step which was the s-on patch now you need to complete the process by ruu'ing back to stock....
edit: sorry I obviously didn't fully read your question... just flash unrevoked s-off patch to gain back s-off but everyone is right your fine
Thanks for all the info guys it is greatly apprehended
