Proximity sensor patch? - Desire General

Is there a proximity sensor patch for the HTC Desire?
Sometime i have to end phonecalls by pulling the battery or plugin the headset to get the screen back.

Your device could be faulty as I have never had this problem.

same here, the minute i pull the phone away from my ear the screen turns back on, it may be a faulty proximity sensor

Do you have ROM from Desire HD?

Proximity Sensor Problem
Hi
I am also experiencing this problem on my HTC Desire (2.1 Eclair) however I dont have to restart my phone or anything. It just doesnt show the screen after I pull the phone away from my face sometimes.
I have a Body Glove with Screen protector but I doubt its the screen protector that could be causing this - or could it? (its clear in colour anyway).

No. It has a regular Desire generic rom.

The screen protector is probably exactly what's causing it.
Official HTC screen protectors have a cut-out for the proximity sensor, even though the protector is clear.

Heads up on proximity sensor problem with Skinomi

This is a heads up for anybody else that starts having problems with their phone not waking up once the screen goes blank after taking a call:
I put a skinomi kit on my defy, and it works great EXCEPT it fools the proximity sensor thereby rendering the phone unusable! Once in a call and the screen goes blank, there's no way to wake it back up. Strangely, even the power button doesn't do anything.
I used a proximity test program from the market to verify the problem, and sure enough, as soon as I pulled the screen protector off, everything started working fine again! And no, there was not dust/dirt/smudges on the screen protector - must be just the density of the material...
i've to disagree with you ,,,i installed the skinomi kit on my phone maybe 3 months ago,and none of what you say happened even once, your skinomi must by yellow as hell, that's why its missing around with your proximity.just my opinion.
nopr, no yellow.just put it on a couple days ago-very clear.
does yours have a cutout for the proximity sensor? maybe just a hardware variation...
Nope,my kit is full body coverage, with no cuts,so either your proximity sensor is faulty or you got a skinomi knockoff.

I can verify that the proximity sensor has issues with skinomi .
Had the same problem ,and solved it with cutting out the part of the screen protector that was covering the sensor .
Since then ,no problem.
Just received a replacement from Skinomi. Same problem - no cut out and the proximity sensor does not work. Manually cut out the area with some scissors, and all is well (but looks bad).
Might be a hardware difference between different variations, but there's definitely a problem for certain models!
I've just received a new Skinomi skin. The area around proximity sensor is cut, so there should be no problem with it anymore. I have not installed it yet though.
Installed it. Works fine. Definitely looks better than bestskinsever I had on my iPhone. Bestskins had an orange peel, Skinomi is smooth. Installation is the same.

Can anyone identify this part

Just replaced the flex cable on my Desire and found this small rubber part on the desk afterwards. Anyone know where it should fit, I can't see anywhere obvious!
Thanks

Upps
I've never seen it before!
That might be the small plastic/rubber shield that separates the proximity sensor's emitter/receiver (as depicted in this picture). Without it, the proximity sensor might function incorrectly.
Source.
God save the Queen!
Further to the image above, that proximity sensor rubber is shown at 5:00 in this video:

Thanks for the responses - proximity sensor sounds like the culprit to me, particularly as I've had a few problems with it not working lately! Time to take my phone to bits again I think, thanks for your assistance
Looks like the piece that goes on the inside of the back cover which sits over the speaker? Could be wrong though...
Hi I know exactly what it is I had the same problem I did a massive fix on my desire a few months back.
It's the Mic or the rubber bit that protects it and helps the sound travel to the Mic look at the bottom of your phone. There are 2 boards I think the top and the bottom top having camera etc and the bottom having the processer sim.card etc. When you took those out it must have fell out if I remember correctly its just 2 bumps at the bottom next to the micro USB port on the right
Hope this helps

I had a second look it could be the proximity sensor rubber thingy lol that is mentioned above too
Lol one or the other I remember mine fell out when fixing

Thanks for your replies, it wad indeed the proximity sensor piece as suggested. The video and picture above were spot on, my phone is fully operational again
Thanks!

Phone goes standby when calling

Hi, I have a problem when I call someone and right after i put the phone next to my ear the phone turns black.. to go in standby mode or w/e i have to press the button for it to turn back on, but there is no unlock screen when this happens.. Anyone know what the deal is? Sometimes the phone won't even call when I put it up to my ear fast enough. really weird, please help. Also, when i put my ear away from the phone it turns the screen back on.
It's the proximity sensor, its meant to disable the screen so you don't press things with your face

Ya, but when I press "Call" And put it up to my face to fast the call won't go through.. Wtf is it because of the Screen Protector covering it? Having weird malfunctions like after calling and touching the screen once it will just turn off.

[Q]Promixity sensor issue (always returning 0 value)

Hi,
I think my promixity is having issues. Screen goes dark as soon as I make a call even though the phone isn't close to my ear. Downloaded an app called androsensor and my promixity sensor shows 0cm constantly there.
Is there anyway to solve this? :/ It is kind of hard to make phone calls without the sensor working properly. I can se the light but it is always on even when im not in call after it's been started...
You wouldn't have recently fitted a screen protector? I had a cheap one cause this.
If this is not the case, then take a screen shot of the 0cm reading and e-mail it to HTC and see what they recommend. It may be you have a faulty sensor and it needs a warranty repair.
It would fall under hardware fault so you should still be ok if you have unlocked bootloader.

[Q] Issue with Proximity Sensor?

Hi Guys,
Newbie here, wonderful forum and lots of tech stuff, kudos to every one who have contributed.:good:
Facing couple of issues with my NOKIA X, request your help pls!
Issue: Screen goes blank during a call, when using the phone without headset, & doesnt come back on, untill the call is disconnected by the caller at the other end.During this period, when the screen goes blank, it leaves me with no access to the menu, dialpad, etc and the call disconnect button doesnt end the call as well.
1) Turned off proxmity sensor in the "Phone-Settings" menu, it works properly.ie the screen stays "on" during the call and no issues with disconnecting the call, accessing the other dialpad options etc.
2)Also Turned on/off Automatically adjust screen brightness , observed that issue is intermittent.
Any leads would be helpful. Not sure about sensor calibration and tweaks
thanks
K
the screen supposedly to turn off during calls when it detect something near the proximity sensor ie your face when attending calls, this is to preserve power, and it should've come back on again when u bring it far from your face. this is default bahaviour on all smartphones nowadays.
but when it doesn't come back on again after u bring it far from your face after making calls, then thats a problem.
u use screen protector? a thick one and it covering the proximity sensor perhaps? from my experience thick screen protector that covering the sensor can interfere with its sensitivity.
the sensor is on the right side of the nokia logo infront of the phone. look closely and u could see it.

Yes recently i got a matt finish screen protector on.,let me try taking it off and then observe if the issue pops up..Yes its a little frsutrating when the screen doesnt come back on once its moved away from the face & will have to wait till the caller disconnects the line from their end

Thank you mdfzhi, i took off the screen guard (yeah it looked unusually thick :silly and it seems to work at the moment, will monitor and see if the issue pops up!:good:
thanks again!!
search for screen protector that doesn't cover the proximity sensor, or if u cant find one that doesn't, cut yourself a hole in place of the sensor.
i'm using a thick anti fingerprint screen protector myself but its not covering the proximity sensor.
