Is it at all possible to mod rosie.apk to display in landscape when rotated? I know now the Desire Z has this function. I'm just hoping we can get it to work on our Desires with HD roms (or even without?).
So far i hear that if you modify rosie.apk then you need to resign it. But what if you modify it, then add the modified files from modded rosie.apk to a clean rosie.apk. Would that still break the signature?
Also mentioned is that it will only work if it detects that the hardware keyboard has been slid out. I'm sure there must be a way to "lie" to the launcher when it hits landscape mode to think the keyboard is always out?
I'm looking for thoughts on this from anyone but especially people who know what they are doing. I have decompiled rosie.apk and haven't a clue where to start. Just having a look at all the .smali files has headfucked me.
Thanks.
Some interesting info on the subject.

(please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm still pretty new to android)
I was thinking exactly the same.
I don't think you can replace modded files in rose.apk, because they would be signed different and cause rosie to crash...
The "lie" option is a possibility I think.. But we would have to make a widget to switch.... or a set vice which checks the phone's orientation and changes the value when the phone is turned.

I was using Apk manager yesterday and I saw an option for modding system .apk.s and keeping them signed if that helps with the signing.

I don't think the problem is just signing rosie.apk i think if you re-sign rosie you need to resign all of its widgets and other .apks it uses.
I think the best option would maybe "tricking" the phone into believing the Android keyboard (hardware) is open. We would probably need a Desire Z port in that case too doh!

Just pushed Z's Rosie.apk in my HD rom, and as expected, the result was a bootloop
This means that even if the Rosie.apk will be successfully modified, it will only run on a Desire Z Rom, unless someone manages to mix those two Rosie.apk's (the one from the HD rom and from the Z rom) up and makes them work.
Pardon me if I am wrong, but ephumuris I think this Landscape Rosie is associated with the sliding keypad of Desire Z. Isn't so ? Well if we start modding it, wouldn't it happend that we got remove and add many associations of Rosie specially related to Hardware and furthermore we will have to associate the Hardaware sliding rotation to the Accelometer Sensor. I think it's quite painful task.

No, apparently if someone works out a way to trick the desire into thinking it has a slide out keyboard that has been activated then it could work. The other problem is that a lot of other.apks have to modified for the landscape feature, its a complicated task.

the problem is i follow what they do and it doesn't work i think the problem is that it doesn't actually have home installed on it i've looked thru all of the applications and its not there is there anyway to install it?
Why would you get a desire and NOT a nexus one if you don't like sense?
Find Launcher.apk, Launcher2.apk or one of the launcher replacements in the market (ahome, openhome, home++) and install them to replace the sense homescreen.

You could try installing Launcher2.apk from Nexus One. Some people report it working fine on their phones. It didn't work for me though. Maybe I had the wrong APK.

Complete Android noob here please explain
In overly simplified terms, Sense UI is HTC's home screen, where as Launcher2 is Google's home screen for N1.
All programs on Android come in APK files. That's like a CAB installer on WinMo.
So all you need to do is search Nexus One forum for Launcher2.apk, download it on your phone and install it. Then when you press home button, it will ask you which home to launch. Choose Android home (or something similar) instead of Sense UI, but DON'T make it default just yet as it might not work.
If it does, next time you can make it default an voila - you have yourself a "Nexus One".
Though Sense UI will still be running, so you don't really save any memory or anything.
I have posted in this forum how to turn of Sense on the Desire. Search 'How to turn of HTC Sense' or something.
Since in that clip there was ACTUALLY a Desire being used, it should work. From what I remember:
Go to settings, all programs, search HTC Sense, turn it off.

i've just downloaded launcher2.apk and now just to finish this phone call then i'm gonna test this out will report back. i feel like a crash test dummy lol
You could also try to install the Helixlauncher2 app from the Nexus One forum. It's a modified Nexus One launcher2 with a lot more features. I already made a thread in the Desire Themes and Apps forum since I'm curious whether it works flawlessly or not on the Desire. Maybe you can crash test that launcher too?

should be HTC_IME_hi22.apk and Clicker_hi.apk (which i think is the settings or something)
i ran that file and then added this cyan color scheme on top of it
if you want the "lower keyboard" button you have to disable smiles in the settings
I still get force closes with any of these apk files. Anyone have better luck?
looking for this too, anyone with the stock HTC IME with the arrows, pls let us know! thanks
CM6 is non-sense. if you want sense, flash a sense rom
Flash one of the new DesireHD ports. You will no longer need the arrow, since it has that iPhone like feature where when you drag your finger through a text field, it magnifies your current spot.
Just a suggestion...not a good one though because you lose Camera, 4G and HDMI stuff...

I don't think it exists. At least, if it does, nobody is paying close enough attention to the question, because all of the IME mods I've been told to try lack the arrow keys. The closest thing was Swype, since it has arrow keys.

I'd love to see this too, what keeps the stock one from being ported over?
Is sense really that embedded in every little thing htc puts out?
It would be awesome if the arrows could be made to take up a little less space as well... this seems to be the only complaint I have heard about them anywhere.
Devs? Some of you have to appreciate the added benefit the arrows offer.
I just switched back to sense using the Desire HD rom. but I'm remembering the biggest thing i hate about sense: swiping up and down on incoming calls. Obviously I keep my phone in my pocket and locked most of the time, so getting a call and pulling my phone from my pocket answers or declines the call for me depending on which way its sitting in there. why htc decided to use this, I dont know but it sucks.
My question would be: has someone figured out how to change this to the standard form of answering/rejecting calls? Even the galaxy s phones uses vanilla style but we get the crap up and down bar.

Deleting the lockscreen apk has no bearing on the phone apk.
To answer the OP, there is currently no way to disable the slide to answer function that I am aware of as this question has come up repeatedly in the dev forum. Deleting the phone apk causes some fairly significant issues, as you can imagine.

yea I thought so. I figured it would have to do with phone apk calling up the function from android.policy or services.jar wasn't sure if anyone knew how to change it.

I don't understand the workaround with No Lock. This application in not to unlock the device with a button?
I've installed Easy Answer Button. It doesn't work perfectly, and I have the same problem: the case answer or cancel randomly a incoming call
Thanks!
Same for me i need to change this method of answer call , i've tested Easy answer button , tedd droid tools but it's really what i want.
I want to slide on the left or on the right in order to answer or reject a call.
Someone can help me please ?
Edit: I've found what i want with cyanogen mod , it's perfect now .
That was my big problem with slide way answering a call too, but it's not anymore due to SimplyLock app that I found in market.
Hope it will help all guys who ran into the same problem.
I searched a few hours for a solution of this problem and finally found one i will try now.
The App I installed is called HD Caller ID and is free.
So for you, looking for a solution try this App. Maybe it´s good for your belongings.

Is there ANY vanilla lock screen.apk's out there that are just the .apk NOT an entire ROM, and ones that WORK, not ones that are "half ass" done? I realize developing anything can be difficult, I just want to find one that works correctly. The search filter on the site is junk you type in Vanilla lock screen, or any thing lock screen .apk and it just brings up every ROM that has a vanilla lock screen in it, can anyone help solve this "puzzle". I really like the one from Warm 2.2 BUT its jacked up/ wasnt properly developed and is just pointless to use unless youre using it with that ROM.

I hear you can just delete the sense lockscreen and it'll use the vanilla one. But, I believe I also heard that screws up your alarm. Not sure where the sense lockscreen apk is though.

well its "thinned" out, it sometimes double screens, as in you go to weather or alarm, and a blank screen will quickly slide up showing a half assed weather/ alarm screen, the lock itself is perfect, but what ever else he put in that apk file was terrible, i hate to *****/ trash on a dev since he has done really well, but i think it needed more work before releasing. as far as the apk file yea i knew you could change it to a .bak, only problem is, when i go into the root file explorer and locate the file to rename it, the second i try to rename it, it says "insufficient permissions" and i have no idea how to fix it, in this case google nore the forum was my friend lol any ideas?
ok fixed it, figured it out, and was able to change it, next step learning how to create apps LOL.

I'll have a look at this in the morning. I intended this to be more of a development thread as I intend to be able to work this into something to include in a rom. would be a good addition to the dev forums. Its so much easer to use on devices like the evo 3d and sensation xl, We should be able to change this with a bit of knowledge about the coding
Why?
Its only 5 screens, and all it does is spin you back to the same screen you were on. I don't want mine more senstive than it is really, otherwise it will be kicking off at random when I don't need it.
Sense 3.5 and Sensation based roms such as Virtuous Unity 2.39 seem to have much more sensitive carousels (1 full screen slide = spin). Its just the official HTC RUU 3.06.405.1 roms such as Revolution that have really difficult to spin carousels.
I'm pretty used to using the carousel to spin 3-4 screens, even though its probably slower... (But at least its just a full swipe and a tap, instead of 4 half slides)

Its 7, and even on sensitive roms such as VU and sense 3.5 roms, its pretty difficult to activate without trying as you have to slide around 75% of the screen somewhat quickly.
