[Q] Change answer/decline call method? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just switched back to sense using the Desire HD rom. but I'm remembering the biggest thing i hate about sense: swiping up and down on incoming calls. Obviously I keep my phone in my pocket and locked most of the time, so getting a call and pulling my phone from my pocket answers or declines the call for me depending on which way its sitting in there. why htc decided to use this, I dont know but it sucks.
My question would be: has someone figured out how to change this to the standard form of answering/rejecting calls? Even the galaxy s phones uses vanilla style but we get the crap up and down bar.

Use a root explorer program and delete the htc lockscreen, under it is the vanilla one, the one where you slide left and right

I tried that on all the standard sense roms and that only changed the lockscreen for me, but not the incoming calls. also, on the Desire HD rom, I can't even delete the apk because it causes bootloops for some reason.

Deleting the lockscreen apk has no bearing on the phone apk.
To answer the OP, there is currently no way to disable the slide to answer function that I am aware of as this question has come up repeatedly in the dev forum. Deleting the phone apk causes some fairly significant issues, as you can imagine.

yea I thought so. I figured it would have to do with phone apk calling up the function from android.policy or services.jar wasn't sure if anyone knew how to change it.

This is the reason I will never consider switching back to any Sense based rom. I have accidently answered/declined a call more times than I can remember. Thank god the rebooting issue was figured out for the AOSP roms.

I don't understand the workaround with No Lock. This application in not to unlock the device with a button?
I've installed Easy Answer Button. It doesn't work perfectly, and I have the same problem: the case answer or cancel randomly a incoming call
Thanks!

Same for me i need to change this method of answer call , i've tested Easy answer button , tedd droid tools but it's really what i want.
I want to slide on the left or on the right in order to answer or reject a call.
Someone can help me please ?
Edit: I've found what i want with cyanogen mod , it's perfect now .

That was my big problem with slide way answering a call too, but it's not anymore due to SimplyLock app that I found in market.
Hope it will help all guys who ran into the same problem.

I searched a few hours for a solution of this problem and finally found one i will try now.
The App I installed is called HD Caller ID and is free.
So for you, looking for a solution try this App. Maybe it´s good for your belongings.

Can you have seperate wallpapers for portrait and landscape?

Hi guys.
I did try searching but didn't find anything about this.
I miss having separate wallpapers for portrait and landscape like I had on my TP2.
Is it possible to do this on a G1, with 1.6, and no root?
(Please don't start the "why don't you root" stuff, at this point in time I will not get any benefit from it, I don't feel like changing all my settings again, and there seems to be no definite guide for UK DRC92.)
android has no built in feature that allows you to do this but there may be a home replacement app that will do this, not sure though

I was kind of hoping there was an app that'd allow this with the stock home, every home replacement I've tried has either been laggy, FC's a lot, or is just useless in general.
I am not aware of any such feature. It's not doable in the stock home screen or any home replacement I'm aware of.

Dual Wallpaper allows the user to select two different wallpapers to be set when the phone is either in Landscape or Portrait mode.
When the orientation changes, the application will automatically change the wallpaper.
For 2.x phones only
Does NOT require root.

Pls recommend call log app

I'm running a CM7 based rom, and the call log does not fulfill my needs.
What I require is a call log that shows me how long I was on each call, as opposed just the time the call started.
Any ideas people?
EDIT: Also, bonus points for anyone that can recommend an app that allows you to set a countdown timer. And this needs to be simple to use, and retain the countdown time remaining for when I next make an international call (which is the whole reason I'm being so anal about timing).
Try some for your self. People have different opinions one stuff, so you may get something someone reccomends and you hate it

Not possible for an AOSP ROM (which I presume you're using).
That answer screen is part of the Sense framework. To port that over would mean to port over the entire framework, which isn't possible.
Thank you, no kind of alternative huh?? She really likes that "iphone" stuff.. but unfortunatelty.. she's stuck now with the TMOUS leak , unrooted.. until there's a downgrade.., everything else is perfect, except she's tired of the slides.. which is dumb IMO same process right?

I don't believe there is an alternative, though I could be wrong. The AOSP answer screen is part of Phone.apk and I don't believe there has been an alternative to that.
You can use alternate dialers like DialerOne (http://www.appbrain.com/app/dialer-one/kz.mek.DialerOne) which changes the dialing screen, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't change the answer screen.
Sliding or pressing to answer calls doesn't matter to me, sliding just requires a tiny bit more finger effort, lol. Tell her it's good for her finger muscles lol.
I did notice that if the phone is "awake" and someone calls, you get the "push to answer" option instead of the slider. And when it's locked, you get the "slide to answer" option. Makes sense because they want to make it harder for you to answer a call on accident when the phone is locked and in your pocket. So if someone modified Phone.apk to always present you with the "push to answer" screen, then your problem would be solved.
If you're familiar with ADB, have you tried the downgrading thread over at the development section? Supposedly you can downgrade and root any G2 with it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055581
Then you could just load up an MIUI or Sense ROM onto her phone and she'd be happy

Lol that sucks. I love Sense and MIUI ROMs but they're a little too slow for me. I've had the most success with the InsertCoin ROM. Pretty smooth, not as smooth as CM7 though... Of course that's just my opinion.

In-Call Recorder

I know there's been posts about this already and I've tried about 3-4 different apps already attempting to gain this functionality, so far with no success.
My old Tilt2 running Windows Mobile 6.5 had a BUILT-IN ability to record BOTH side of the phone call simply by pressing a menu button and then selecting "Record" DURING the call, which means I could choose exactly when I wanted to record, I didn't have to know in advance and I didn't have to record the whole call. I could go back to that same menu and "Stop Recording" just as easily and then the recording would show up in the Voice Recorder app file list. (they were saved as .amr files)
I have yet to find an application (free or paid) that provides this same functionality (and preferably the same ease of use and simple features) for the Android system, and I've been looking since I first got my Epic 4g back in May with Froyo 2.2 on it. I've got GB on it now, are we ever going to get an app or a build or rom that has this feature in it?
Thank you.

Background on this topic:
In previous threads on this topic in the Epic forums, it has been stated that it is against the law in some states to record a conversation without notice to & consent of the other party/parties.
That said, in all of those threads since the Epic's release--I've yet to see an app recommendation that panned out for those seeking such functionality.

My old PalmOS Treo had that feature, and it was perfect! Have been looking like you for that would work on the epic with no luck.
It was helpful when recieving important info while driving and not having to pull off to the side of the road and try to write things down with pen and paper!
Wth are people up to that they need to record their calls so badly. Are you guys creepy stalkers? Don't trust your gf/bf? Dump them. Jeez. Are you the damn dept of Homeland Security?

I have only used my recorder on my Treo twice in 2 years. But the times I did use it was when someone gave me super long instructions on something I can't remember, so instead of saying to the caller, call me back when I at home in about an hour (which is an inconvenience to both of us) and when I am by my computer and have a pencil and paper, I simply continued the conversation. Then when I did get home I just wrote that information down at my convenience.
It's like have All Wheel Drive in a car, most of the time you don't need it, but it sure is nice when you have it.
Obviously you have never had a need for anything so mundane, as you are always in the perfect situation, so why the heck do you need a wireless phone? Stick to your corded phone, that's all you need, oh wait, you probably have a wireless phone. You must be one of those creepy guys too!

Not creepy, trying to be SAFE while driving and when someone is giving me instructions, or their address or phone number or when I'm on the phone with HP tech support and at the end of the call they want to give me a really long case number, there are a thousand legitimate reasons to need to have the ability to record portions or the entirety of a conversation while on the phone. When you have a 2hr commute each way to work and back, you spend a lot of time on the phone and frequently get information that needs to be written down, which I can't do while driving...not SAFELY at least.
Why was this so simple for the OLD Windows WM6.5 to accomplish yet the much more improved Android can't? Is it the OS or the phone manufacturer's that are preventing this feature???
~Z
I think it's a built in function in the MIUI ROM. I'm pretty sure on my last call I saw that feature...
Edit: yup, just checked and it's there. It's a stable ROM, you may want too check it out.

I could use this in several aspects my business dealings... I would live to be able to confirm verbal contracts over the phone, create action items during conference calls while in the car & to capture confirmation #'s when paying bills over the phone just to name a few. Essentially, some of u just don't get it & automatically think the worst which shows your train of thought and personality all to well.

Well, I'd say we've confirmed that there's definately a market for such a program on our device, if not others. I guess the trick is, and unfortunately I'm not a phone or android expert, I have to revert back to one of my original questions to see where to go with this. The developers here are pretty damn good and usually fill in whatever requests are out there for apps/mods to satisfy our requests. So is the reason why there isn't already a call recording program then the fault of the phone's themselves? I've heard that some people have had complete success with a program, but only with a specific model of phone. Others say that they get only microphone input...
Is the hardware truly limiting the ability or can we find a really nice and good dev who could get around any hardware limitations (at least on the Epic) and get this ability working finally?

S Voice? Well, it depends

Hey guys...
Just heard about S Voice. It sounds even better than siri. So I gave it a try on our device with CM9 alpha2.
So here it is:
The major function is OK, concerning listening and giving answers. Mount Everest's height can be found, weather OK, and even silly questions.
But the problem is here...
First, it is not quite responsive. Sometimes the button does not respond. However it can be worked around by re-launching it.
Second, the integration with local data does not work. Whenever I tell it to create a new task and/or calendar event, it crashes.
Third, it is not customizable. When you try to change the wake up phrase, it crashes. Worse still, you have to clear the data of the app to revive it.
Na.
Well, just asking if any developer is interested in making it work in our device?
