While I have a lot of linux experience, I'm new to the smartphone world. I just got an unlocked Desire 8182 set with the North American frequencies. It is running Firmware ver. 2.1update1.
I believe it to be a telus phone with just a sim unlock. I've put my ATT sim card in and it works on their network. I want to upgrade to 2.2 but when I search for updates I get the "There are no updates available for your phone" message. I'm guessing it's looking someplace other than HTC's server for this information.
I downloaded the OTA_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8-1.21.405.2_release4dua3bcrut4wrv30.zip which is what one of the guides suggested, renamed it update.zip, backed up the phone to my local box and moved it to the sd card. I then went through the steps to recover using update.zip and it errored out with a fingerprint error and produced: "Error in /sdcard/update.zip Status 7
What's the easiest option from this point on to get just the stock 2.2 on the phone? BTW
Build number is 1.29.661.1 CL198499 release keys
Baseband version is 32.41.00.32U_4.08.00.09
Kernel version is 2.6.29e5576724
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Wait for Telus to put the OTA update. It was due to mid-October ... they probably will offer the update this week... you can follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819960
This way...you won't avoid your warranty and get a clean version of froyo
or you could root your phone and install any ROM that you'll find in this forum OR
unbrand your phone with a gold card and get the update directly from HTC ota.

hey
I have an orange phone which a while ago i flashed with a generic rom and rooted. because of this i was unable to install the OTA so i did a manual upgrade to this rom:
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
This installed fine (it seems), but as i am on orange, when i rebooted the phone it was network locked. I read that flashing an older radio solved this problem so i went and flashed this radio:
update-bravo-radio-32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11-signed.zip
This now makes my phone boot and work fine with no lock, HOWEVER, the software version still says it is on 1.15.405.4 and not the updated version!!!!
I have tried testing one of the bugs that was fixed in the new ota (i sms'd myself from skype and it still says it was sent by a facebook contact) and so that fix clearly wasnt present and the upgrade just hasnt seemd to work. Can anyone shed any light on this? could it have anything to do with what is installed on my phone during step 1 of the root? the root package i am using is called r5-desire-root-alt
Thanks for anyone who can help on this
Rooting the phone puts the 1.15.405.4 ROM back on your device, if you want 1.21 you'll have to then buy an unlock code to free up the device...
There is an update ZIP in the ROM dev forum which updates the system but leaves the radio alone so might wanna try that...
thanks for this, but the only update i have been able to find in the dev forum is the one on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
but there is a note at the top saying they all contain radio updates
do you have a link to one without the radio update?
Didn't look hard did you??

thank you sooo much, this has finally sorted out my problem
To make a really long story short, after Sprint's recent ota 5.07.651.1 (the update that came with the Sprint connections optimizer) was installed on my phone, I could no longer download or update ANY apps on the android/google play market while connected to 4G. Went to the Sprint store to get it fixed, they tried and failed, got a new replacement handset with ota 5.07.651.1 already installed, same exact issue. Reached the conclusion that the update screwed things up. Downloaded and tried to use this RUU file to revert back to the old build right before this one (4.67.651.1):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1484240
This was unsuccesful as the error message it gave me said:
ERROR [140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR
The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone.
Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again.
My hboot is 2.18.0001, is there a version of the above RUU file that is compatible with my bootloader version?
What is it you're trying to do?
If you unlock your bootloader, you can downgrade your ROM.

If your phone isn't rooted and your bootloader isnt unlocked, then you shouldn't be here. You should be in a sprint store politely asking them for a phone that works. I would get a working phone before you even try rooting/unlocking your phone. It may have larger issues that sprint wont want to fix after you root it.
Hi all,
I'm looking under about phone and i don't see anything about update profile or prl? Does anyone know how to get to this?
Thanks.
i've wondered this since acquiring the PRIMOC but have just assumed there isn't a way on VM. It was so easy on Sprint/Gingerbread, Eclair, or Froyo, at least with a Stock ROM
you probably figured it out by now but if not...search xda for the latest prl for your carrier, put it on your SD card, and then use EPST to update it. I think the code was ##775# (have your MSL ready).
To update profile (this assumes you are still on virgin mobile), just *228. If you flashed it to another carrier... PM me
If your phone's ROM is the official ruu ...
Phone inside usually upgrade information ...
However, if you use the ROM production ...
You will not havethis option ...
I have the same problem with my old phone Cricket which was active before they went to AT&T. I'm trying to use it for qlink but theres nowhere to 'update profile'. Can someone plz help me.
Hey all. This is my situation. I have a GT-5110N wifi only tablet that I purchased 2 years ago in Canada. The motherboard recently crashed and the repair place put in a SIM enabled motherboard Model SGH-I467 with Android Jelly bean 4.1.2 I wan't to upgrade to 4.4.2 as I had with my previous motherboard. With extensive searching I found out that this is an AT&T tablet. I try to use the OTA update on the tablet but it says I have the latest version. The AT&T website says there was a OTA update to 4.4.2 in October 2014. I've called both AT&T and Samsung for help. No dice. What can I do?? I checked on sammobile and they only have the 4.1.2 version. However, the SGH-I467M through Telus contains 4.4.2 Can I download that?? I'm new to rooting etc. Do I need to unlock device?? Please help.
Thanks
Unfortunately, there is no firmware available for the sgh-i467 4.4.2
I recently got my 4.4.2 rom rooted and extracted the rom components - but I am trying to find someone who knows what to do with all the stuff to create an odin flashable rom.... but we are not there yet... hoping someone can help out.
If you keep watching here on the forums, it may happen at some point.

Weird as the AT&T website says there is.
I can't post the link yet but its there. I'll cut and paste

How to verify the update
From the home screen, tap Settings > About device.
The following information displays:
Android version: 4.4.2
Baseband version: I467UCUBNI2
Also, the same model but Canadian version has the update SGH-I467M
Yes... there is a firmware available via ota... fota is firmware over the air update...
The only way to get it is to be on att cellular network. It is not available to download any other way as far as I know. If you find a way to do so, please report back to us where to get it.
Also, the i467M is the Canadian model and it has different firmware... it is not the same as i467.

oh ok. Now I understand. Thanks man. I tried to get AT&T to help me out. If I had a US IP address, would the wifi update work?? Or am I required to have an AT&T sim card installed?? I guess you kinda stated that already.
I had to have an active att sim card to get it to work on my device... wouldn't work any other way for me.
Thanks
Thanks dandroid. I guess the next time I travel to the US I'll see if I can get a hold of and active SIM card. Let me know if you hear of any other solutions. Thanks again.

Dandroid: If I request AT&T to unlock the device, will that help me?? Another question, would the firmware upgrade file from sammobile for the equivalent Telus device work then if I unlocked it from AT&T and then used odin??
Att will only sim unlock, which makes the device useable with other brand sim cards... mine was already Sim unlocked by att before I tried to update to 4.4.2, but in still needed an active att sim to update it.
Trying to flash any firmware other than sgh-i467 will brick your device - doesn't matter if it is unlocked or not.
Thanks again

Thanks dandroid. I guess I either wait and update on my next trip to the US (who knows when) or try the AT&T gophone option. $5 sim card and $20 refill. Activate it and hopefully it recognizes it then lets me do upgrade via wifi or Kies. That should work right?
That sounds like the easiest option to try... if you can get a cheap Sim card it might be worth a try.
I love this tablet, but I hate this locked bootloader bs...
Dear community,
I am the proud owner of this superb phone. I have it in completely stock mode, never unlocked or rooted (sorry to say that, but the days of flashing new roms every week are history for me for some years already).
I have bought it in EU from official partner (no grey import!), the HiSuite installed the build number DUK-L09C432B189 (Android 7) as the latest version, which is odd, since I know this device has been rolled out with Android 8 and will get Android 9 soon, even in EU.
I have downloaded the Stock ROM with January 2019 patch set, build number DUK-L09C432B378 directly from honor cloud.
I have tried all the possible combinations of uploading the files to the SD Card and flash it this way (create dload folder and put UPDATE.APP inside, tried also uploading zip files, tried to store them directly to root without dload folder etc.) but none of them worked for me. Always got to 5 % and then "Software installation failed". The dload/UPDATE.APP was the only combination going forward via *#*#2846579#*#* menu and SDcard upgrade, so it rebooted into flashing mode, all the other combinations failed with "no firmware found", etc.
Anyone has any bulletproof idea how to continue? I have even found somewhere an information, that particularly C432 are unable to be flashed via SDcard... Why would just this region be such limited?
I have spent last 8 hours trying all the possible combinations and need a push to the right direction.
Thanks in advance for any help guys.

Get a new phone. Huawei seems to have just forgotten that this phone exists. And this is high time you move to a phone more customizable and popular with all the trade wars going on. If you had the Bootloader unlocked you could have just flashed the Ota rom updater zip with the update folder inside. Alternatively you can use firmware finder but this includes changing your dns server. All the best. Don't expect a lot of replies, this phone along with it's user base is basically dead.
Yeah, I would love to get a new phone. But the only option to get the same features is leading me back to Huawei again. (I use mainly GSMarena to do the comparison of features, and verify on other sources as well.)
So instead of buying another one, which (with the knowledge of the situation of US/CN trade war, is currently a walk into a dead forest) I would just keep this Honor 8 Pro till it works.
And it's not really true Huawei has forgotten it totally. Why would they rollout Android 9 to it then?
Let me rephrase the question a little bit: Is there anyone who has successfully upgraded their Honor 8 Pro with C432 region via SD card? If so, how?
Thanks.
So I have written to Honor support and they seem to have my phone enabled for the updates, since I got the latest update finally today. Thus SDcard method is not required anymore.
Hi @gabriel31337 - i have exact the same problem. Whom did you contact to get the latest version OTA enabled?
Hi @UFO-waRhawK, I have wrote to this mail address: [email protected]
Ok, whoever faces this problem, insert a valid SIM card. Once i inserted my SIM, i was able to update to the latest version immediately. You can still download the update via WLAN, but using only WLAN without a SIM will let you stay on the old version.
