Help!!! Email (MS Exchange server) wont push or auto download! - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

So I set up my email on the TP2 and everything works ok except for the fact that I have to click on Send and Receive to retrieve my email! I have another Gmail account that downloads every 5min but the Exchange account does not have that option and the mail is not being pushed to my TP2. Any ideas? or is there a way to set the MS exchange account to also auto dl every 5 min??

oh forgot to mention that my iphone has no issues with the mail being pushed to it

If you are having your device connect every 5 minutes, this is not push e-mail. This is called pull e-mail. Push is when the server side sends the mail to the device. Pull is when the device connects, checks and grabs new mail. Pull is more resource intensive and drains the battery much faster as a result. Push isn't determined by the device you are using, but by the service you connect to. If your exchange account isn't supporting push, then the device won't either.
As for your iPhone doing push, it isn't the same. Apple maintains an IMAP connection to the mail account for you on their servers and push new mail to you when they see it.
This is a VERY simplified explanation of what actually happens, but hopefully you understand. An easy alternative to having a similar push experience to your iPhone is to use SEVEN. It works in the same manner I described. They check your e-mail for you, and push it to your device when new mail arrives.

application to setup hotmail as push mail

i successfully set up my hotmail in my X1, set the sync frequency to As Items Arrive, intending to activate push mail.
but now everytime i have new mail, i am not notified at all, not even showing of the numbers of new mails in the Today Screen.
i still need to manually go Menu > Send/Receive to update my mailbox.
any1 got solution or what application i need install?
thanks
yes: GMAIL lol
This would be a workaround, but it would work.
1. Create a Gmail account.
2. Forward your Hotmail to Gmail.
3. Set up your Gmail so that you can reply using your Hotmail account. (yeah you can do that...nifty eh?)
4. Go to your Outlook on your phone and set up "gmail-sync" as your push mail account to retrieve from. It's in beta right now but is working 100% perfectly on my Kaiser. (I'm in here because I'm getting a SEX1 in a couple days ) I frickin' LOVE IT - it pushes IMMEDIATELY as soon as the mail comes in. Instructions here:
http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=winmo
5. Now all your e-mails will be stored to your phone permanently too, instead of the inbox getting wiped every time you send receive, or whenever you have your timing set up for that.
6. Forget about Hotmail and start using Gmail lol. Just kidding...but if you set it up that way, you can still use your Hotmail completely, Gmail will be practically invisible to you. (Or is it the other way around? lol)
Seriously, Google's free push e-mail service is amaaazing. I am LOVING it.
ohhh pls tell me how to fwd mails
in aol /hotmail pls
Syncing frequency to As Items Arrive works perfectly for me.
I confirm that both hotmail and gmail works as a push mail on my XPERIA.
For hotmail, you can just use windows live connection setup and choose/set "as items arrive" and set the time as "always". For gmail, you can use the activesync feature on outlook mobile as have been told by deezy7 above.
Or else, you can use the feature from Emoze service.
hi all.
thanks for ur advices.
i did add my hotmail using the Windows Live program, did set to "as items arrive" and did set for "always"
but nothing ever appear in my pjone for new mail unless i do it manually using "send/receive"
i prefer to use my hotmail acc ley.
any1 pls help mi.
thanks

If you would like to have a free account for push mail service you should try Emoze. I have been playing with Emoze and honestly it helps me much to get my XPERIA have numerous mail account which works as a push mail ....
Ok, I did some workaround, created another gmail account and forwarded all my accounts to that one, and I receiving only that one.
Maybe not the best solution , but I prefer not to use online services like mobipush and such where u leave them your user name and password for each account u have...
As an alternative to Emoze i use Seven Beta. It provides near realtime push on most types of account.

Hey icbicb, in response to your other question as well, my suggestion would have been to do what you already did, which is create another gmail acccount I also prefer not to use any other online services, and was very happy when Google came out with Gmail Sync, since I've already been using my gmail account for five years, and don't have to give out sensitive information to yet another company
To those here using other services, I'd suggest you give Gmail Sync a try. Deedee, I noticed you said that Seven Beta provides you with near realtime push. I've noticed with Gmail Sync, and having my Gmail open at the same time on my pc at work, that Gmail Sync pushes in actual realtime! I'll hear the notification on my phone first before my page refreshes to show me my new e-mail! Also, I should mention that I am using gmail plug-ins to autoupdate the screen when new e-mails come in, and the Gmail sync sends them to my phone simultaneously or even before my page refreshes, thus, I know that it is actual real-time. Just like blackberry's service! I'm in love with it right now
icbicb, I'm glad it's working out for you , loyjwe I hope you are able to give this a try...
it's a good solution, but if i transfert the mail from hotmail to gmail they will be of the hotmail box...
And it's a probleme for me...
do you have a solution for that
(excus me for my bad english)
Big advantage of Seven Beta is that it works for almost all POP3/IMAP email systems and it keeps all the accounts separate so that replies from your PPC keep the correct return address.
I have it working on Gmail x 2, Hotmail and a POP3 account and all four accounts are independant of each other.
I said near real time sync as i didn't want to claim real time in case it wasn't. I rarely use the web interface since starting Seven so haven't been in a position to check. As i tell the BB users at work if you have time to compare the two delivery times then maybe you don't need a BB.

Hi titeloo...bad english is okay lol, but, I don't really understand what you mean by "they will be of the hotmail box..." need further explanation!!
@Deedee, gmail does that also....so... for example, when you get mail forwarded to your gmail account, if it was originally sent to your hotmail account, when you reply on the phone, it will reply from the hotmail account. Gmail's set up pretty good that way. I believe right now though they have a limit on the number of accounts you can send mail from, not sure if it is 3 or 4. So it's pretty neat that Seven Beta keeps all accounts separate ...btw very nice avatar
Seven is only restricted by the number of accounts that can be set up in WM, think it's 8 in total, that includes your ActiveSync/Exchange and SMS accounts.
Thanks for the compliment. Always prefer to use real piccies for avatars where practical.

why doesn't my email sync??? HELP...

i've got my own beautiful desire.
wonderfuk thing, but i've got a problem.
i've got 3 email accounts from hotmail and 1 gmail in my phone.
it all works great, and i like it very much.
except for 1 thing, if a delete a message on the server, my phone still saves it.
i want it so sync and delete the messages that are removed from the server.
i check my mail during the day with my phone, at night i check it on my laptop.
there are often emails in my inbox that are rubish, so i delete them.
usually i do this at night (don't know why, but i just like to do my paperwork at night).
so when i want to check my email during the day, my phone syncs with the account i select but still shows all the email i deleted.
so i have to manually delete them from my phone.
i hate this stupid way they made this.
why in *****'s name would i want to save a message that i deleted from the server?
does anybody have a solution to this problem?
because there aren't a lot of good email clients for android.

+ 1 here; my deleted emails are also shown :-(
What type of email you have setup?
POP3, IMAP?
POP3 will not delete emails (if you delete an email from server, it will stay on the device, and vice versa).
In IMAP, if you delete email from server, it will be deleted from the device too (or vice versa -> device-server, on the next sync)
like is said, it's hotmail so it's pop3.
who came up with the brilliant idea to sync imap and not sync pop3?
again, one of those things i so ****ing hate with software.
why does my windows vista mail program (on the laptop) sync beautifully with my account, but not my android mail program?
is android just to retarded to understand how to sync with pop3?
the day somebody comes up with a program that just works.....
it just pisses me off that nothing with the desire is made to be just right, every little rotten thing needs tweaking to make it work right.

..hm I came from a windows mobile device and I synched the same account; deleting an email in outlook has been also deleted on the device - and vice versa!
It's not about android, Desire, or Windows XP. It's how POP3 works.
Even if you setup the same account on 2 different PCs as POP3, you wont be able to delete emails from one PC to the other.
What I suggest is enabling IMAP on gmail and see how it goes.

If it's a gmail account and it used to work on WM but not on Android, then I would delete and re-add the account. My gmail account works great. I delete or mark as read an email on my PC or webmail, and the same goes to my Desire on the next sync.
If we're talking about personal domain (not gmail, hotmail...), then during setup in the Mail application choose the IMAP protocol.
that still deosn't solve the issue with hotmail on the desire.
hotmail is pop3, doesn't do imap.
but it works great with windows mobile.
on android it works like it's just rubbish.
I don't know about that really, I don't use hotmail.
I use gmail, and personal domain/server.
I hope someone else can help you with your hotmail issue.
so nobody knows anything about this?
they can figure out how to get the bleu led to switch on and off, but nobody can make a tweak so hotmail gets synced properly?
I think it's because in the WinMob email app you can tell it to download emails from the last 3 days and anything older disappears automatically.
The Android email apps don't do this but you can set them to delete emails from the server so if you delete the email on your phone it will delete it from the server but you can't do it the other way round.
has anyone found a solution for this.
Starting to annoy me now as well

Push Email client

Hi,
Does the email client on the android device is push client,i have an yahoo acoount, i think it does not have push client.
Yeah I wish.
It seems blackberries are the only ones with PUSH from other providers. Plus the built in both GMAIL and MAIL apps confuse the **** out of me and make my desire less desirable.
Try seven beta version, its not in the market place and u need to register online but its free and its really good. Just Google seven Android.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
You need a mail client which supports IMAP idle. Most people recommend K-9 Mail.
The Gmail application supports push mail but can only be used with gmail accounts. The HTC mail application also supports push mail but only for exchange accounts, not IMAP.

That's hardly push is it! You still have the delay while you wait for gmail to poll the POP server. No better than using the phones mail client.

well actually it saves you battery, gmail checks the pop roughly every 10 minutes, and your phone will only do any work when a mail is there i.e. its pushed.
if you use a normal mail client your trying to "pull every 10 minutes" it will use way way way more battery than gmail pushing the same result.

The checking time on Google's mail fetcher service is dynamic. If you generally only receive a few mails per day then it will only check a few times per day. In Google's own words,
"Gmail checks individual accounts for new messages at different rates, depending on previous mail fetch attempts. At this time you can’t customize the frequency of automatic mail fetches."
I use POP mail and don't find any great difference in battery drain with it on or off. I understand that this could be an issue for the more battery anal though. I think the real benefit of your method is bandwidth. Polling every 5 or 10 minutes can quickly eat in to a monthly data allowance. This is significant to those who only get a few MB every month. Going through Google's push mail service is a much more bandwidth efficient method.

Yeah i have done that, and i hardly ever receive an email, before that i just check my yahoo.
I have downloaded k-9 mail, hope it does the job.
I never got on with K9 myself.
I get emails all the time with gmail handling all my accounts every 10-15 minutes, oh well each to their own.
Too bad I cannot POP my yahoo with gmail... the asia trick doesn't work anymore.
If anyone does have a method (not upgrading to mail plus ), please share it!
I just had a play with K9 and comparing it to Seven I was not impressed. Its push pull and when i delete a email on my phone it does that on my account too.
I can recommend
since yesterday i have not received a single mail on yahoo through k-9 mail, i think its just does not work, gmail app is wonderful, but transferring my yahoo on gmail doesn't work as well.

I just did some quick research on this. It looks like yahoo don't support standard IMAP IDLE. Instead they have their own custom Push IMAP protocol. You will have to use Yahoo's own mail client available from the market place to receive yahoo push email.

I don't think Yahoos Android client supports push either. I have a very seldom used Yahoo account which I set up on the device, and when I sent an email to it, the application took an age to pick it up.

Email in the phone

Guys
I am using an Android phone. I have the stock email program and I have also K9 and Enhanced Email all running at the same time.
I have an Gmail account but don't use it for email or for nothing really dont trust the cloud/google.
My problem is all the email apps work great BUT when I open outlook then they all get removed form my phone. So basically the only emails I am left with are the send ones(in my phone). This happens with my POP and exchange accounts.
My question:
1) is there a Mail App that will make a copy of the email in my phone so when I open outlook they wont get sync and disappear?
2) If number 1 is no then is there a easy way to full your phone to keep the emails.
Thank you

A properly configured Exchange server usually doesn't allow the local device to retain the message data, it's all accessed real-time from the server. Its possible you have what I call a Half-Ass Exchange, which means you have a central address directory, but the IT department set up Outlook and Exchange to store messages locally on the PC rather than on the server. This would lead to what you are experiencing... Outlook takes all the messages off the server, leaving your phone with nothing to see when it connects. There's not a whole lot you can do about that unless your IT guys will move your email data to the Exchange server. Or maybe they have an IMAP access option. (See below)
With pop3 accounts... You have a similar problem, except there is no way to for two different devices to access the same data. The closest you can get would be to configure both devices to leave messages on the server after downloading them. Any emailed replies then can only be accessed from the device from which you sent them.
If you have the option, switch your pop3 accounts to IMAP. All user data is kept on a server (just like GMail), and any device that is connected to that account automatically syncs with the server, including access to deleted messages and sent messages sent from any other device.
All that being said... The stock email program kinda sucks. I would stick with the 3rd party apps like K9.
This is a new issue to me. I came from a PRE WEBOS and i did not have that problem. I believe the problem is in the way ANDROID OS handles emails. Basically all its changed is the device all else remained constant. I believe but not sure that if i was run all my mail thru gmail this will not be an issue. Its that true?
Thanks

I access my pop3 mail just fine using K9 (again, I don't like the stock email program). Downloaded messages remain on my phone after they've been downloaded by my Thunderbird installation on my PC.
My current company doesn't have an Exchange server, so I can't speak to that with direct knowledge... My lat experience with Exchange was about two years ago, so its behavior could certainly have changed! My current company has 10 locations, and they are content to use a 3rd party pop3 solution for email. As an IT man, that annoys me, but then, I don't write the checks!
If you haven't changed any settings in your Outlook, then I would look closer to your settings in the email programs. K9 specifically has a setting that you need to check in order to download the messages to your phone (as opposed to just reading them off the server). I don't remember if it came checked by default...
Check to see if your phone email programs are set to actually download entire messages from the server, or just the message headers. In K9, there is a specific setting under account

[Q] K-9 Mail and GoDaddy IMAP Servers

I know this probably applies to a very narrow audience to begin with, but is anyone else having issues getting emails pushed to their phone/K9 Mail from GoDaddy hosted imap accounts? I've used K9 for my work email account for over a year now and never had any issues, emails would get pushed to my phone almost immediately after being received on our GoDaddy hosted imap account. However, about a week or so ago, I noticed that I would get Outlook desktop notifications well before I would get the same email pushed to my phone. After observing this behavior for the past week and testing a few things out, I've narrowed it down to either the way K9 Mail interacts with GoDaddy's mail servers, or GoDaddy's mail servers themselves.
On my phone, I set up two imap accounts in K9, one a gmail imap account and the other my work imap account (hosted by GoDaddy). I sent a single email addressed to both the gmail account and the work account and every single time I did this test, the email would be pushed to the gmail account almost immediately, whereas it would take at least 15 minutes for the same email to be pushed to my work account. This happens on both wifi and 3G/4G, which rules out network configurations as being the root cause of the problem.
As much as I would like a solution to this problem, I'm more curious as to whether anyone else has noticed this problem, and if so, they can perform the same test described above to see if they get the same result.

I had the same problem and had to upgrade my app. Made by the same people who made k9, there's an app called kaiten. That worked like a champ. Hope that helps! I had to switch for my email coming from my graphic design business.
Thanks for the reply. I've tried out several apps that include push support, including Kaiten, with the same results. The problem is either with K9 and the way it works with GoDaddy's email servers, or GoDaddy itself. I'm sure there's 0 chance of finding out which one since both can just blame it on the other.
Solution
Just wanted to follow up and not leave this thread hanging in case someone else runs into this issue, but the problem has been pinpointed and resolved. It turns out that when when you set the incoming server to imap.secureserver.net for GoDaddy-hosted email accounts, there are a total of four physical mail servers available and you are randomly assigned to one of them for access when you establish your imap connection. Two of the servers support imap idle ("push" email) and two do not, which is why sometimes push email works and other times it does not. It depends one which server you end up at when establishing the connection. To remedy this problem, instead of setting the incoming server to imap.secureserver.net, which will land you at one of the four GoDaddy mail servers, enter one of the two mail server IPs that DO support imap idle: 72.167.82.19 and 97.74.135.193
One thing to keep in mind is that on the off chance that the IPs for GoDaddy email servers change, you will obviously not be able to establish a connection and will need to reconfigure your email settings with the correct server address.
Full credit to Ashley Willis for finding the root cause and providing the solution, and Bernhard Redl for troubleshooting the issue as well, both of whom are devs for the K9 mail app.

so my company is hosting on godaddy and i got an email account with them i need for business, can you confirm this is still working? I will make the changes in my settings now and check to see if it works, what are your other settings?
I dont want to set my phone to check at set intervals every 1 minute is too much but what i need (ie push) but even every 15 minutes is too burdensome.
Would you mine running me through the settings for your phone?
btw im using the full paid version of aqua mail just recently and if there is a better app i can just refund this one and get another that will work. thanks
---UPDATE---
I tried editing my settings the first IP 72.167.82.19 would not take saying something about an incoming server error, the second one (97.74.135.193) did work but I am not receiving my emails until the 15 minute interval, Has anyone found a solution to this yet? or switching email providers is only way?
I've been using the 97.74.135.193 address for a nice long while now so I can't comment on whether or not the 72.167.82.19 is working still. It's possible GoDaddy has changed that mail server's address. After having used this "solution" for almost a year now, I can say that it works most of the time as far as pushing emails immediately to my phone as soon as they hit the mail server. What I've noticed is that when I'm on 3G, it will work as it should all the time, but sometimes when I get back to work and connect to the office wifi, my emails will only arrive at the set polling intervals.
My settings are as follows:
Incoming Mail
Username: user@domain.com
Pass: ************
IMAP Server: 97.74.135.193
Security: SSL (always)
Authentication: Plain
Port: 993
Auto-detect IMAP namespace: (checked)
Show only subscribed folders: (unchecked)
Use compression on network: (all three checked)
Outgoing Mail
SMTP server: smtpout.secureserver.net
Security: SSL (always)
Port: 465
Require sign-in: (checked)
Authentication: Automatic
Username: user@domain.com

Thank you for this, I am on my way off the work so ill have to check the actual settings again at lunch but so far with the same server, im not getting push, still taking 15 or 30 minutes to receive even though i have check intervals at 15 minutes.
Should i be talking to aqua mail or godaddy or both?
this is boggling my mind.
I hear ya, it sucks and it's frustrating. Like I mentioned before, I'm using the 97.74.135.193 address right now at work and I can tell my emails are being pushed correctly because I'm receiving them within a minute of the "sent" time stamp and well before the email is picked up on Outlook on my desktop.
I haven't used aqua mail before, so I couldn't tell you how to get in touch with some support staff. I can tell you it was a hassle to get in touch with the K-9 devs and ended up taking a month or two and multiple emails before I got a response. Best of luck trying to get an answer from GoDaddy. I tried calling support with zero luck and started making some noise in the forums about it (http://support.godaddy.com/groups/email/forum/topic/imap-email-not-being-pushed-to-phones/) with no luck. Ultimately, GoDaddy says they don't support IMAP Push/Idle function, even though it had worked consistently for about a year and now only works intermittently. Let me know if you have further success or find something new that works.

so you are using the paid version of the K-9 email app correct?
I will give that a try because aquamail is not working like that, i am receiving emails when my app checks in 15 minute intervals, but i dont want the phone to keep checking like that
UPDATE**************
EVeryone use Kaiten, i wasted money on Aquamail, doesnt work properly, Kaiten just pushed, will try again and report throughout next couple days, but first email pushed right away!
I am so happy, thank you AwkwardBarnacle for all your help!
I'm currently using the free version of K-9 Mail (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fsck.k9&hl=en), which is without a doubt the best mail app I've come across. I've used several different hosts on this app and the only one that doesn't always push mail as it should is GoDaddy. I would definitely recommend trying it out. The link up there is for the marketplace app, but you can download the newest updates from the developers' page: https://code.google.com/p/k9mail/downloads/list
I'm currently using 4.508 and it's totally stable. Haven't run across any problems yet.

Interesting, for me, both k-9 and aquamail did not work for godaddy push email, but kaiten seems to be working "eventhough godaddy doesnt support" I dont know what is right anymore, but all i know is i press the button on my computer and send a test email from my gmail account and i hear my phone beep before i lift my phone off my mouse (well within 2-4 seconds.) Aquamail and k-9 were not able to do it. maybe i wasnt getting the settings right for k-9, but i definitely didnt have to do anything with kaiten, worked immediately. Plus the UI for kaiten is much cleaner than K-9 and aquamail is just awful and hard to read.
**UPDATE***
k-9 does work with the server as awkwardbarnacle suggested, it was not working before when i was using the imap.secureserver.net that is listed in godaddy support and what they recommend over the phone.
aquamail is confirmed to NOT work however, even with the new server configuration. so its up to user preference. between kaiten and k-9, both work.
