I'm sure this has been covered somewhere but I can not find, for this I am sorry. I am running Fresh V3.2, and although his default incoming call screen is better than stock, I still would prefer one of my choosing. Can someone guide me in the right direction on how to this? To be clear, what I want to do is change the picture that pops up and stays on during the call with the number on an incoming call. Obviously this is only for people who are not in my contacts as I can assign any picture I want to a contact. Much love to the anyone who can steer me the right way. Again I'm sure this has been covered but have spent two days now, and can not find it. Even used the search button!
That's a good idea, is love to change that picture to something nicer. I can't look now, but I'll dig into a Rom or two when I get home, if some else doesn't first.

I did do a little searching in some roms, but I'm not sure if it's just a png/jpeg, or if there is more to it. Appreciate your help.
k, looks like the default contact photo for the in call screen is in the Phone.apk\res\drawable-hdpi\phone_default.png Well, in Vaelpak anyway, but I'm relatively certain all the current stock based roms use the same. Now what to replace it with. Do you have something in mind? If you can post up the pic or graphic you want, I can put it in the apk for ya.
Next will be to find the default contact picture for the Contacts and Dialer, that blank faced icon is bothering me now.
Ha, as I expected that is something I would never have found. Now that I know what I'm looking for I should be able to make it work with a little more research. And actually the picture I have in mind is a picture of a '67 Shelby GT 500 (Eleanor), but it's a particular pic of that car. I will have to find it again, after work I will get looking for it, and post it. You've answered my question though, thankya much. And if you do end up changing the default pic let me know how it works out for you, I'll do the same if I get it going tonight. Thanks again.

After finding that file on fresh 3.2, I open it and it shows the stock android pic, but on this rom that isn't the picture that shows up on the caller id, leading me to believe that there is more to this job, and beginning to think we need some more help because now I'm lost...

Ok, I've tried not to make a thread about it and read around and try things on my own, but I cannot figure out two things with my phone. Maybe neither can be done..
1- The way my Kaiser used to label pictures was yyyymmddhhmm_###.jpg
So the file would be something like 200906302055_045.jpg
I can't figure out how to make my TP2 do this. The pictures save as IMAGE_014.jpg as an example and that is unhelpful when you don't keep all your pictures on your phone and you're flashing, etc. Does anyone know if that is even possible?
2-I really like the TF3D text conversation window..Except that it doesn't update when someone messages me. So I have to leave the window and come back, kinda defeating the purpose of it for me. Is this normal or is it fixable?

awesome thanks. It's too bad they made this so hard to do. I'll bet a lot of people prefer it the other way as well.
I think we can all agree that the INCOMING CALL SCREEN on the Excalibur is way too old school. It is hard to see further than half arms length, and with a small picture.
There is plenty of room to have a gigantic CONTACT NAME and picture behind it or below it, much like the.... never mind i'm not going to say it.
I am running the latest 3vo 6.5 ROM, if anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated by all.
that call screen on the 3VO was redesigned and updated by oOkBa, not as old school as you think, check with him and see if he'll make one to your liking.

I agree!! it would be really cool to have this.. or imagine an app that even lets you custom the incoming call design
I was told by ookba that he cannot do it from his end but that there should be a third party app out there. I have been searching all week. Anyone have any luck?

Did he mention what would be involved in changing the screen? Which dll would need to be edited?
I have seen this question brough up but after looking didn't see any answers. I have tried using the stock mms as well as Handcent and Chomp. I have changed the settings to 1mb but still out going message ends up 7kb to 20kb. The person on the other end gets a picture that you need bottle caps to see.
I did a search on this and found resolves for other phones as well as a simple check your settings but nothing else.
I did come across this link below but don't know of anyone else that has done these steps.

I called Sprint and asked them why I have a HUGE screen, BIG Camera and tiny MMS. They told me this is a known issue and will be fixed in next release. I personally think they just saying that to satisfy my curiosity. They told me it was an Evo only thing. They could save lots of money if people send 16kb MMS instead of 300kb to 2mb which the phone should allow. I think most phones and providers allow 300kb to 1mb.
I did read a thread where they modified it for the G1.

I am opening up grabbing the information off my phone now to dig deeper. If I get anything working I'll repost what I did.

I have the same experience using handcent. Even sending the pic to an email causes the same behavior.
Im surprised by the lack of posts in this thread? Does anybody not have this issue?
I can't even send MMS, for some reason. I get them ok, but sending does nothing. Dont even get an error. Could someone post their APN settings? It is grayed out on my phone, but at least it will tell me if that is the issue.

i guess nobody uses mms? lol i certainly dont haha if i take a picture worth sharing i just upload it to facebook right then and there...i mean we have really fast 3g and if you want super speed use 4g. i was able to upload 25 pictures all at once to facebook using 4g in about 4 mins...
Yeah...haven't sent a MMS since I got the Evo on June 4th...
My Palm Pre (Sprint) was able to send an MP3 to another phone 2-4MB no problem, but this darn phone.... So I know it's possible just gotta find the right segment of code to change.
Wait a second...never heard of this before. So I just ran a test...a 1mpixel photo mms'd to my other phone. Right off the bat it resized it for the message..something about 'photo too large'. But it went so fast I couldn't read whole message.
When I open the sent message, the photo is now only about 2/3's size of the screen and only 70k.
This is crap!
Damn it. Tooke a photo from the Raphael and sent back to Evo. A 3mpixal pic left the Raphael no problem...and showed up on Evo at 60k. WHAT THE HELL?!?!
Calling Sprint first thing. I bailed on the iphone 3g for three major issues. One of which was no MMS. This is huge to me. CRAP.
Here is a thread with mms .apk stuff. I do not have root and still not OTA...so this won't help me yet, but maybe for someone else?

Ok, ran another test today...sent pics from my two phones to a friend...and had her reply with pic from her phone to my two.
Both pics from me were taken at 1mega pixel....she got one at 40k (Raphael) and one at 17k (Evo).
She sent same pic from her camera to both my phones...Raphael got one at 210k (1600*1200) and the Evo got it at 77.9k (640*480).
Now I kinda just glossed over the FPS issue...but now I am seriously getting upset about having my phone with this wonderful screen get messed up shrunken images. I have a high quality camera and I can only send out tiny azz'd pics. Now I have reached the point of being upset with a super/smart phone that has been crippled.
You gotta love how they have great specs on the phone and the programmatically dummy it down.

I thought it was only me. I hate sending a 720p photo abs the person I send them to replies with...."the photo is really small" and yes the phone does resize the images. It blows

Yes it does suck I sent an 8mp photo to a friend and I swear it looked like she got a cif res photo
I brought this up in the store last week...they just kinda went...'Uh huh.' Seemed like they knew but weren't interested in discussing.
We need to hack this as it seems ONLY the Evo does the pre-resizing and then Sprint's system has an auto resize on tope off that.
I am learning android as fast as I can....as this doesn't seem to bug a lot of people...and I'll just have to look at it myself.
(Unless someone else knows more?)

MMS Resizing on EVO
Hey - I know the last post was 3 days ago... Just wondering if anyone made any headway on it? I'm going to go to the last link that was posted for the AOSP MMS program, but it looks like there might be some issues with it... Rather stick with stock SMS/MMS program without any of the issues... And have this darn resizing thing fixed. It's a load of bull.
The most advanced phone on the market and seems to be the most limited when it comes to doing what it's made for! Being a multimedia device! I feel horrible sending someone a picture the size of my thumbnail when they can send me something that can be zoomed in 10x without any deterioration lol.

Hey all, Ive been thinking about what i miss about my pre, and besides the obvious wireless charging (one can dream, right) touchstone, the one other thing i miss the most is the glowing of the trackball device at the bottom of the phone for a notification.
Now i know there are many people who have WIMAX Notifier and will say to use that, but i really dont like it as much as a more behind the scenes and clean look, and W.N. keeps crashing and is really buggy.
My app idea would incorporate the 4 buttons at the bottom using different patterns for different notifications.
Ex:
Text: Glow all 4 slow
Email: Run from right to left back to right and repeat. (8 secs for one rotation)
Missed call: Glow only home
etc.
I searched and was not able to find anyone in the developing stages of an app for this. I would be more than happy to assist with the coding, but i have no programs or anything downloaded so far, and dont really have any idea what im doing, though i do know C, Java, & C++ a bit and can learn coding quickly.
Any idea on if this could be made to work, im pretty sure there has to be a way the light sensor sends a signal to the mocrocontroller to light the keys, but can it be done independently, outside of that code section? Any words of where to start with development of this app?

It actually has not been done yet. All that has been done is Flashlight Alerts and WiMax Notifier.

I think that is a great idea and would look cool as hell. Try making a quick flash demo to illustrate your idea. I'm with you and can definately visualize it but, maybe others can't. Don't give up, it's a great idea.

I think it's a FANTASTIC idea having the 4 bottom capacitive buttons blinking/flashing/glowing for notifications. I would definitely pay for this.
The number one thing I miss about my Nexus One (which I sold back in May) is the trackball notifications where it would glow different colors. Getting the 4 bottom buttons to glow/flash would suffice for me. $10 bounty pledged by me!

Alright guys it sounds like there is an interest in making this happen. I will start to look into what it will take for the process to begin.
Stage 1: Getting a coding program installed and getting the HTC Sense open source code to start looking into the light sensor callout for hints of making the bottom LED's come on.
I am committed to this one guys! Sounds like there is a definate want for it thus far.
Good luck man...with all the devs have done with this device, I dont see why this wouldnt be possible.

Alright guys, small update, got the software downloaded and the code/sdk for android 2.2. Wasnt motivated enough to put on my nerd hat and get into the code and start searching out the specific lines im looking for. The good news is I have a flow chart laid out for the notification in each scenario.
Gotta figure out how to ensure the program boots on startup and continues working until force closed.
I will be starting with Froyo, and will move it back to 2.1 eventually. My primary focus will be 2.2 on the Evo.
Welp guys i spent 10+ hours this weekend just to figure out that those LED's are only allowed control when the screen is on. This app is not possible without a significantly more experienced developer, who could make the screen control independent of the LED's. Given my little experience this has become too difficult for me to handle. I will sell my idea for free though!

I have tried the new windows 7 phone and think the idea of looking quick to see everything is a great idea. I'm a car guy and think working gauges and graphs would be cool to use instead of the boxes. There could be gauges or graphs that show: 1) Battery Level 2) Memory for RAM, ROM and SD Card 3) How much the Processor is working 4) Missed Calls 5) Emails 6) Messages 7) Wi-Fi signal or whatever else. I have looked and found 2 apps that had a few of these together but they looked a bit simple, and there are a few out there for the battery. I thought it would be nice to see these on one page for a quick look to see whats going on. I'm not sure if it would work with android having different pages like it does or even if it's possible. It's just an idea I liked and thought others might also. I know I would pay a little something for it if it worked and looked good. If there is something out there I missed or someone does this give me a private message, I'd really appreciate it.

So like... What phone are you using currently?
There is an app called eRay, I'm not sure if it is on the marketplace or not but I have used it and it works well for this. Very nice graphical statistics. Do a google search to see if you can find it.
