I think we can all agree that the INCOMING CALL SCREEN on the Excalibur is way too old school. It is hard to see further than half arms length, and with a small picture.
There is plenty of room to have a gigantic CONTACT NAME and picture behind it or below it, much like the.... never mind i'm not going to say it.
I am running the latest 3vo 6.5 ROM, if anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated by all.
that call screen on the 3VO was redesigned and updated by oOkBa, not as old school as you think, check with him and see if he'll make one to your liking.

I agree!! it would be really cool to have this.. or imagine an app that even lets you custom the incoming call design
I was told by ookba that he cannot do it from his end but that there should be a third party app out there. I have been searching all week. Anyone have any luck?

Did he mention what would be involved in changing the screen? Which dll would need to be edited?

what free threaded app do you suggest then?
Except for a bunch of features that haven't been implemented yet, I'd have to say this is the best threaded sms program out there for the SP. Good GUI and being able to read from the existing inbox and sent items.
I wouldn't pay for it just yet with all the missing features but it looks very promising.
Agreed. I like it, but missing a few things.....
prefer the interface to IMSMS tho!
I really wish IMSMS and the others would display the number of unread messages on the homescreen. I txt a lot and that's a dealbreaker for me. even if it was a custom plugin it'd be better than nothing. Why dont they use the internal database to do this like extreme text does?

Um, this is the Extreme Text thread.... perhaps ask on the IMSMS thread and you may get and answer either way if it is possible or not. Posting a complainant and comparing a free SMS software on another thread for another piece of software seems a bit off.....

I now understand your point.
I know what rhetorical questions are, my wife has to resort to those as well.
I noticed ted's hero theme and drizzys hero rom use a different gmail icon. Unfortunately it still doesnt blend well in my opinion. But could someone combine the current MAIL icon with ted and drizzy's gmail icon?!?!!
Basically the mail icon mailbox with the gmail envelope hanging out of the mailbox a little bit?
the icon space may not allow for that and remain the same size as the other hero icons though. so maybe just the google G on the rightmost side of the mailbox as a secondary idea?

I really have no idea what im doing lol. I JUST downloaded gimp not too long ago and im learning as i go. I figured out just enough of it to do those images. Im sure somebody with real skills could make a better 1. Like 1 with an actual opened door on it instead of just erasing that part of the mailbox lol. My imaginations way bigger than my skills r with that program but ill keep trying. Glad you like it tho!

the actual mailbox hasnt been modded except to create a open look for the envelope because i wanted it as close 2 the mail icon as possible but i can try it...that shouldnt b hard! lol (still learnin where things r and how 2 use em)
Why not make a widget, like handcent sms uses one ?
An icon with a number in it, so you can see haw many new mails you have.

Ok, I've tried not to make a thread about it and read around and try things on my own, but I cannot figure out two things with my phone. Maybe neither can be done..
1- The way my Kaiser used to label pictures was yyyymmddhhmm_###.jpg
So the file would be something like 200906302055_045.jpg
I can't figure out how to make my TP2 do this. The pictures save as IMAGE_014.jpg as an example and that is unhelpful when you don't keep all your pictures on your phone and you're flashing, etc. Does anyone know if that is even possible?
2-I really like the TF3D text conversation window..Except that it doesn't update when someone messages me. So I have to leave the window and come back, kinda defeating the purpose of it for me. Is this normal or is it fixable?

awesome thanks. It's too bad they made this so hard to do. I'll bet a lot of people prefer it the other way as well.
I'm sure this has been covered somewhere but I can not find, for this I am sorry. I am running Fresh V3.2, and although his default incoming call screen is better than stock, I still would prefer one of my choosing. Can someone guide me in the right direction on how to this? To be clear, what I want to do is change the picture that pops up and stays on during the call with the number on an incoming call. Obviously this is only for people who are not in my contacts as I can assign any picture I want to a contact. Much love to the anyone who can steer me the right way. Again I'm sure this has been covered but have spent two days now, and can not find it. Even used the search button!
That's a good idea, is love to change that picture to something nicer. I can't look now, but I'll dig into a Rom or two when I get home, if some else doesn't first.

I did do a little searching in some roms, but I'm not sure if it's just a png/jpeg, or if there is more to it. Appreciate your help.
k, looks like the default contact photo for the in call screen is in the Phone.apk\res\drawable-hdpi\phone_default.png Well, in Vaelpak anyway, but I'm relatively certain all the current stock based roms use the same. Now what to replace it with. Do you have something in mind? If you can post up the pic or graphic you want, I can put it in the apk for ya.
Next will be to find the default contact picture for the Contacts and Dialer, that blank faced icon is bothering me now.
Ha, as I expected that is something I would never have found. Now that I know what I'm looking for I should be able to make it work with a little more research. And actually the picture I have in mind is a picture of a '67 Shelby GT 500 (Eleanor), but it's a particular pic of that car. I will have to find it again, after work I will get looking for it, and post it. You've answered my question though, thankya much. And if you do end up changing the default pic let me know how it works out for you, I'll do the same if I get it going tonight. Thanks again.

After finding that file on fresh 3.2, I open it and it shows the stock android pic, but on this rom that isn't the picture that shows up on the caller id, leading me to believe that there is more to this job, and beginning to think we need some more help because now I'm lost...

That's the thing I love about WP7: it makes you realize what you really use your phone for. I don't make calls with it all that often, and I all but never make calls to people who aren't in my contact list, which is why my People tile is within a swipe's distance of the top.
