Extreme Text - HTC Excalibur

Guys .... just downloaded this .... works perfectly ...
http://www.birdsoft.biz/extremetext.htm

does it allow you to use a vibrate for your texts? thats really the oly feature I'm missing from IMSMS.

So many free apps out there for it. No thanks!

what free threaded app do you suggest then?

Except for a bunch of features that haven't been implemented yet, I'd have to say this is the best threaded sms program out there for the SP. Good GUI and being able to read from the existing inbox and sent items.
I wouldn't pay for it just yet with all the missing features but it looks very promising.

Agreed. I like it, but missing a few things.....
prefer the interface to IMSMS tho!

I really wish IMSMS and the others would display the number of unread messages on the homescreen. I txt a lot and that's a dealbreaker for me. even if it was a custom plugin it'd be better than nothing. Why dont they use the internal database to do this like extreme text does?

Um, this is the Extreme Text thread.... perhaps ask on the IMSMS thread and you may get and answer either way if it is possible or not. Posting a complainant and comparing a free SMS software on another thread for another piece of software seems a bit off.....

Um, I know what thread this is. Someone mentioned IMSMS and I was pointing out that IMSMS doesn't do something that this one does.
Look up the definition of "rhetorical question."

I now understand your point.
I know what rhetorical questions are, my wife has to resort to those as well.

Softkey on SMS inbox

Hello,
i've flashed my german T-Mobile MDA with an Windows Mobile 6 O2 Image.
When i go to the sms inbox the left softkey is set on the "delete"-function.
Before flashing to windows mobile 6 there was the "new"-function attached. This is IMHO much more useful against delete which you can also do in the context-menu quick and easy.
How can i get it back? Is there any registry hack ore something i didn't found yet?
Thanks for help.
Agree with you....very strange this function...
noticed this too - wired, 2 extra button presses... i suppose they need to warrant the new version some way!
Well I prefer it
I much prefer having the delete in the left softkey... brilliant improvement, especially if using for email... quick look at the message in the list and delete it... much beter than having the new button there.
It your only reply who prefer it to be like this.
I have searched the whole world for this thread & saw nobody saying "I prefer".
I don't know who the hell MS* researched for this preference.

Did you ask though?
Because I prefer it too, but I don't feel the need to announce all my preferences to the world as routine.
Well except;
I love Jaffa Cakes
Maybe anybody solved this "problem"?

It does? Where? I have SMS Bubbles installed. I wasn't aware that 6.1 comes pre-installed with it. Could you guide me to the right direction? Thanks.
When you receive a message, you scroll down to the notifications panel. It shows you the text of the message received. I think that's what they're talking about. It doesn't pop up in a bubble at the bottom of the screen like WM Pro (or SMS bubbles) but it's the same functionality.
Actually someone made a program for the smartphone platform that does THAT. It popus a "bubble" at the bottom of the screen with the SMS info in it and allowing you to discard it or ... whatever. Last time I heard it was buggy. Don't know if THAT's what Ricky integrated in his ROM but I know 6.1 doesn't include that by default...

All right, I give up. Two things I can't figure out-Image settings + Messaging window

Ok, I've tried not to make a thread about it and read around and try things on my own, but I cannot figure out two things with my phone. Maybe neither can be done..
1- The way my Kaiser used to label pictures was yyyymmddhhmm_###.jpg
So the file would be something like 200906302055_045.jpg
I can't figure out how to make my TP2 do this. The pictures save as IMAGE_014.jpg as an example and that is unhelpful when you don't keep all your pictures on your phone and you're flashing, etc. Does anyone know if that is even possible?
2-I really like the TF3D text conversation window..Except that it doesn't update when someone messages me. So I have to leave the window and come back, kinda defeating the purpose of it for me. Is this normal or is it fixable?
Thanks for any information

awesome thanks. It's too bad they made this so hard to do. I'll bet a lot of people prefer it the other way as well.

Incoming Call Screen

I think we can all agree that the INCOMING CALL SCREEN on the Excalibur is way too old school. It is hard to see further than half arms length, and with a small picture.
There is plenty of room to have a gigantic CONTACT NAME and picture behind it or below it, much like the.... never mind i'm not going to say it.
I am running the latest 3vo 6.5 ROM, if anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated by all.
that call screen on the 3VO was redesigned and updated by oOkBa, not as old school as you think, check with him and see if he'll make one to your liking.

I agree!! it would be really cool to have this.. or imagine an app that even lets you custom the incoming call design
I was told by ookba that he cannot do it from his end but that there should be a third party app out there. I have been searching all week. Anyone have any luck?

Did he mention what would be involved in changing the screen? Which dll would need to be edited?

Want app that speaks alerts

Hi, I wondered if anyone has come across an app which will speak alerts to me?
Perhaps something like "Text message from Jemima Puddleduck" and "Email from John Doe".
And preferably in a human sounding voice, not that abomination that is the standard Android text-to-speech!
Any ideas?
check out "Vlingo" or "edwin"
Just tried both, but neither does what I want :-(

you won't find any. An app would be alot more than the usuall 0.5 to 2mb. My reason for saying that you won't find any is because the app would have to know every name (and surname!) in the world, also any nickname etc! You'd proboly find that would tell who it is just by spelling the name out letter by letter, and even that wouldn't be very smooth (tone between letters and speed).
hope this helps! good luck!

I don't know if you're right. I don't think it would take that much space. Sure it wouldn't fit in 2megs, but I reckon fifty megs would be sufficient for all known English names. That's just a figure pulled out of my arse btw!
How about a custom message tone for a person that is a recording you have made. You would have to record a message for each person you want this for, Not the most user friendly way but will do what you want.

woow, no need for that kind of sh!t anyways.. what if you have someone saved in as a nickname (Ginger, Gypsy, my 2 favorite contacts ;D) then it would not tell you who was calling you cos the app would not know how to pernounce it..
hope this helps! good luck!

I wasn't being rude/sarcastic so please don't take offence!
I literally meant that I was just guessing how much space would be required

sorry, I'm not exacly English anyway, so I don't understand the meaning of some lines
One of the best apps out there is called Tasker. It can do everything! One of it's tricks is you can set it up to read your text messages out.
Is quite tricky to get used to at first, but once you 'click' with it, its fantastic.
It costs £4 (which is a bargain IMO) but there is also a free 1 week trial.

Agree with Tasker, I am using it
BUT .... BUT ...
It does NOT have this say NAME feature.
Tasker can only say the phone number.
The developer plan to add this feature in the next release ... Which we don't know when ... or NEVER
