Any suggestions on the best sense rom and kernal on the EVo 4G? Currently running Fresh 3.3 with Netarchy 4.1.9.1cfs themed with Riptide9. I get alot of battery life drain rapidly. Any ideas?? Curious if I should also switch to Amon recovery instead of clockwork, completely wipe and start over. Thanks.

I can't find the answer and have searched to see which ROMs are supported for updates in ROM Manager. I have the following ...
HTC Evo
ROM Mgr v3.0.0.2
ClockworkMod 2.5.0.1
Android Version 2.2
Kernal ver - 2.6.32.17-gee557fd
htc-kernal and18-2 #15
Build 3.70.651.1 CL294884 release keys
I just rooted my phone about 4 days ago and really like being rooted. I'm using the Sprint Lovers ROM currently only because I had a problem flashing and found the solution in that thread. I'm afraid of changing to another ROM because I don't know which ROM is stable. Not sure what other ROMs are currently avaiable that are stable with 3.7. Is there a newer version of ClockWork Mod?
I'll answer the last question first - yes. The easy way to keep CWM up to date is to use ROM Manager (which updates fairly often because of new roms/updates). That said, I prefer RA recovery (which you can flash through ROM manager). I also use Calkulin's FORMAT_ALL zip file which wipes data, cache and dalvik cache all in one go (then for good measure I rewipe the caches).
The major sense ROMs are stable and very well supported: Fresh, Myn, Calkulin's Evio 2 come to mind immediately but there are others. If you browse the development forum, you'll start to see the same dev names over and over again: Calkulin, Netarchy, ricsim78, joeykrim, XxXVirusXxX, xHausx. Chances are if they developed a Sense ROM, it's pretty stable and certainly well-supported.
Whether or not the ROM is based on 3.70 is usually listed in the title.
Also be aware there are AOSP ROMs - CM6 and MIUI are the two major ones I can know - they are not Sense ROMs, so the latest version (3.70) is irrelevant. There are probably others. The new Gingergread ROMs are AOSP (senseless) but they are very experimental and unstable.
Happy Hunting!
I've been using Myn's Warm rom. Very stable and fast. Just download the file, put on sd and flash through recovery. The rom is awesome. Also you can flash Calkulin's kernel. I use the one that says "also known as 131". It gives great battery life and can be overclocked.

Calk's kernel- the downloads are in post 2. just scroll down to the one that says "SBC for Netarchy's CFS More Aggressive 4.2.1 (also known as 131)

Good luck! Hit me up if you have questions. Also Amon RA is supposed to be the best. Go into rom manager, if you dont have it get it. Flash clockwork then when its done, scroll all the way down to flash alternate recovery. It allows you to partition the sd card much easier(especially if you want to install darktremors a2sd). Always backup sd to computer before partitioning, it wipes the card. If you need email me [email protected]

I tried calkulins 1.7.6 and manilla carbon this morning with the same result... Constant reboot before the splash screen, so I restored. I also tried changing to Ra recovery and same result.

I currently have:
Fresh Evo 3.4.0.1
netarchy-toastmod-4.1.9.1 kernel
I would like to go to:
Fresh Evo 3.5.0.1
netarchy-toastmod-4.3.1 (unsure on bfs/cfs and havs/nohavs)
Looking to:
Save battery (Am using superpower and underclocking while unplugged)
OC/UC
Wifi Tether
The only reason i am paranoid is that I am still slightly new to flashing and like asking questions. (it took me a long time to work up the courage and flash what i have.) Also when i updated clockwork (to 2.5.1.2) i saw people having problems flashing new roms etc. so i didnt update anymore.
Backing up is not a problem (plan on using astro and sms backup)
Also should i use clockwork (version?) for fresh evo and RA for toast?
Again just looking for a smooth install. My phone is my baby and only source for internet..
Thank you for taking the time to read, even more if you reply and help.

I never have problems with clockwork but, I always flash from recovery and wipe catche partition and dalvik cache. You also need to upgrade to the current version of clockwork. You current version does not save you wimax keys.

So youre saying if i update to 2.6.0.1 and ill be fine. Just wipe the cache and all that?
Any suggestion on which kernel version?
Nandroid what you have first. I also have never had problems with clockwork, RA on the other hand on 2 separate occasion caused issue I could not fix!
I forgot to mention nandroid.
I am updateing clockwork now.
I am going to try tonight and hopefully post back if all goes well. Im going with 4.3.1 bfs havs.
***EDIT***
All is well.
I guess i just wanted to hear good feedback.
And i tried clearing the cache, i waited 30-40 minutes. Still was at the White Boot screen.
Restored from nandroid and installed 3.5.0.1 w/o wiping cache. worked within 5 minutes.
Hi all, I just flashed This new kernel along with cm 7 and its giving me some problems.. I've had it on the charger and its said 100% for quite some time now but when I unplug it ands restart the phone out goes back to 85%.. Then I plug it back in and it charges back up to 100%.. Flash tiamat3.3.7/3.3.8 Those were the best versions.
Yeah I just reflashed a whole new rom (savagedzen mod) and its battery is alright I lose nothing at all while in standby mode that's a plus..thanks for everybodies answers!

Evo 4g rooted with Kinged SHOOTER E3D ROM.
I downloaded and installed the kernel manager lite app. From the app, I downloaded and installed the kernel called tiamat. After it's completed, my phone reboots, but then it's stuck on the htc EVO 4G startup screen. I left it this way thinking it needed some time to load, but it's been this way for over 30 mins.
I have no clue what to do. Can someone pleaaaassse help??

Well if u don't have another kernel on your SD card to flash, then I'd say download one from your pc and use usb mass storage in recovery to get it to the phone and flash it, or restore a nand backup.
Edit...BTW I'm pretty sure tiamats kernel is just for aosp roms, look under the Android flavor column in kernel manager.

The TIAMAT Kernel is for AOSP, not Sense ROMs.
Use a Sense kernel and don't use friggin' kernel manager. Just use Recovery
So I have just rooted my evo 4g and I have no idea what rom to install, or even kernel. Pretty new to rooting androids. I have been told to get Rom Manager, what are your views on this app? Is it easy, and reliable? Thanks for all and any help.
MikG. Go for it. Stick with the stock kernel until a super stable Sbc one drops.
As for ROM manager, I find it best to flash things on your own. If you haven't, flash amon ra recovery. Then flash all.your ROM, mods, and kernels through recovery. I am not saying ROM manager is a bad tool because peeps use it and apparently it works, but I prefer manual flashing and have find it more consistent that way.
