Lately I've been having a problem with my Evo. After flashing the latest stable roms 6.1 and 6.1.1, I found my phone freezes, force closes, and reboots, then wont get past the white evo screen. Ive wiped everything using amon ra and clockwork but i keep coming back to the same issues. I even try not using Setcpu on a clean install and still have issues. I also noticed that everytime I wipe then flash, the google apps show up after my first boot, even though i never flashed the google zip file. Is my phone wiping correctly? What could be the problem?

If this ONLY happens to you when using cyanogenmod roms, then you are not alone. The exact same issue happens to me also ONLY when using CM 6.1 and CM 6.1.1. I have never had this issue with any other rom, both aosp or sense-based, except with CM 6.x roms.

Yea for some reason these last 2 releases just wont work right on my phone. Which def sucks because I love Cyanogenmod roms. Anyone have any suggestions as to why this might be happening?
Try the following:
Wipe data+cache twice
Flash sense ROM
boot
wipe data+cache twice
verify MD5's
flash CM
flash gapps
U recommend clockwork or ra
What? This title for a thread and no poop jokes? The Internet makes me sad.
Seriously, though...
I'm partial to Clockwork now because I use ROM Manager Pro. AmonRa was the one I always used on my Hero. Both are good. It's yet another "personal preference" thing.
CM6 Issues
I too have had trouble with CM 6.0 and 6.1. I flashed CM6.0 Stable, and could not get apps to install or uninstall after flashing. I tried restoring an earlier Nandroid backup of my previously working HTC Sense ROM, and still could not install/uninstall any apps. I tried clearing Market cache, fixing permissions, wiping cache, Dalvik cache, numerous reboots, and flashing earlier ND backups with no luck. I finally bit the bullet, flashed Stock RUU, and had to reroot to get phone working properly again.
Think I would have learned from above, but being flashaholic that I am, I flashed CM 6.1 when it came out. Exact same probs, and again had to reflash stock RUU and reroot.
No more Cyanogen mod for me. Nothing against CM, and it may work great on some people's EVOs, but its only caused me headaches.
Good news is I'm getting pretty damn proficient rooting phone using old-school manual adb shell/rageagainstthecage/chmod exploit method, having done it three times now (although I hope I don't find myself in this situation again).
YMMV
Me too. Tried with both clockwork and ra...no dice. Problem is, when I went back to warm, it left pieces and now even warm doesn't run correct. I tried wiping twice and clearing the dalvik too. I know it wasn't erasing everything because there would be apps that were already installed. Like it was installing to a partition, though I have never set that up.
...
I will admit that I am a noob at this so... bear with the noobness
I have rooted my 3.30 EVO and have installed the Cyanogen 6.1.2 ROM. I backed up my nandroid and wiped using the partition option and the factory option as instructed in every tutorial. Cyanogen 6.1.2 works great in itself, the problem I'm running into is trying to install any CM themes...
I've tried installing the Project_BlissHD-v2.0_EVO_CM_6.1.2_signed theme .zip for CM 6.1.2 through the recovery (not even sure if this is the right way to do it), but every time I try, it tells me that the installation is aborted.
I wipe before each try and have even completely restored a backup and reinstalled with no success.
I have searched and searched for a thread that could help, as I didn't want to have to post a question if I could avoid it. So, how to I apply specific themes through CM? Here's what I've got:
ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.0.2
Build 3.30.651
Used Unrevoked 3.3
And again, please forgive the noobness....
Clockwork 3.0.0.2 is only compatible with the new hboot. If you're on the old hboot, roll back to 2.5 and try it again.
I had the same problem .. I made a thread about it .. I'm about to try what BIG CHEEZE suggested
I use Amon_Ra ,myself. I would suggest using that one perhaps since it does a better job emptying the delvik cache.
Cheese, I'll try your suggestion about the rollback. I can just do that right in clockwork, correct? If that doesn't work, I'll try Jason's suggestion. Jason, which amon ra version?
And thanks to both of you!
Just use ROM Manager to roll back. You can flash Amon RA through ROM Manager as well.
You're welcome.
Use version 1.8 since I've been hearing some weird things about 1.9.
hummm
i get "An error occured while flashing your recovery" error when i tried to rollback to 2.5.1.4
I'm going to flash RA 1.8 right now.... let you know how she goes.
Ok, so here is how it went:
Flashed AmonRa 1.8 through Clockwork
Success
Booted into AmonRa recovery. Backed up a fresh nand, wiped DATA, CACHE and Delvik. Installed Cyanogen 6.1.2
Success
Cyanogen boots.
Success
Boot back into AmonRa. Repeat all the wipes. Proceed to install BlissHD pack for CM. Installs succesfully.
CM attempts to boot again, but just gets hung up on the splash screen, repeating a new splash every 3 seconds or so. Rebooted several times to see if that would help. No dice. Restored back up nand and am back to square one.
Suggestions?
It sounds like the theme you want is not gonna work with the stock cm6.1.2 kernel...my suggestion would be to try a different theme
I recommend barnacles10 ginger bread theme.

Also when you flash a theme...be patient on its first boot. Restarting during a boot that is loading files for your droid has had horrible results with my experience.
I was flashing a radio update and thought that boot loop was frozen..so I pulled the battery..restarted..and was stuck on the boot screen..then my battery dies while in the process of using hboot...and my usb cord wouldn't charge the battery..so I had to wait 7 days for a standalone battery charger to be shipped

That's kind of where I figured I was heading, jst. I'm going to play around with it tonight and I'll let you know tomorrow how it went. Might try completely different mods too... thinking about fresh.
Again, thanks a lot guys. BIG help.
The theme works great with cm 6.1.2. There are many people using it right now. I'm unsure of what could be happening here. Some phones are just picky. Mine for instance bootloops with any of myns roms as well as virus rom but I have no problems with other roms. I'm sorry my theme didn't work out for you.

Hey, it's no sweat! I've seen all the pics of your theme and I really wanted it. It's slick as all-hell, lol. And as for certain phones being picky, that's more than likely the case with my EVO. Since day one, my phone won't charge if turned off, and if I plug it in while it's off, I have to remove the battery to get it to turn on again.
Don't need to apologize to me... I should be thanking you for making something like this accessible to me!!!
You need the correct amonra recovery.

mikfroyo evo, with a side of aloysius 5 !
Alright, think I know whats up... I decided to humor a thought I had and install a fresh Cyanogen after a nand backup. I installed 6.1.2 and then installed the Gingerbread as recommended by jst. Only this time, I didn't wipe before I installed the theme. Worked like a charm. I'm going to try this with other themes too and see how it goes.

really? lol
I got it to work fine by not wiping before theme install, just mod install. t3, your theme looks awesome on my EVO. Thanks!!!
Hi, so I'm super green but itching to load custom kernel and rom... So my Evo is rooted and have seen some pretty sweet roms, lol, kinda scared to flash and not sure what roms go with what kernals, do I even need a new kernal? What I really want is a kernal I can overclock to 1198mhz, and a rom build based on honeycomb and or gingerbread that is 100% stable or as close as I can get... Help? Lol...

hahah exited aren't you... welcome to the root world!
you asked for hc/gb. google hasnt released hc source code yet, probably not until ice cream, so there is none of that. you can however download cyanogen(mod) 7, which is almost totally stable.
http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=supersonic
there's the mirror link. download either rls4 or nightly 33. nightly 33 is a bit funky bcuz cyanogen is pulling an april fools prank saying he sold cm to teh duck revolution, and the rom is now called 'teh duck uber distro'. so maybe rls4 or just wait for the next nightly.
everything works. 4g (with one bug that there is an annoying fix for), hdmi (download hdmwin from the market) gps (with a fix) and everything else is perfect. it is still in beta/nightly stages, but should be done soon. it is my daily driver, as well as many other peoples. this rom is crazzzy popular. try it for sure.
start with stock kernel, but i'd try both savaged-zen and tiamat kernels on it. they will both give you much better battery. tiamat tends to give slightly better performance/quickness but savaged-zen (on custom SAVAGEZEN governer) gives fantastic battery. try them both!!!
again, welcome to the community. hope this helps.
Where do I get the kernals? And what process do I use? I have clockwork premium... I just don't wanna miss a step a jack myself
Also, is it gonna wipe my phone, do I need to wipe it? No issues with that though as I do it all the time... And thank you so much for the feedback BTW, still a little confused...

ok, first of all, clockworkmod isn't the recovery you want to be using. download amon-ra's recovery here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026 make sure you get the pc36img.zip. put the pc36img.zip on the root of your sdcard (that means not in any folders) MAKING SURE IT IS NAMED EXACTLY PC36IMG.ZIP. aka just dont rename it. then power off your phone, and once it is off, hold power and volume down. you will see a white screen with scateboarding droids at the bottom. this is your BOOTLOADER SCREEN also known as hboot, and you see it quite often. so hboot will scan your sdcard, and find the pc36img.zip. hit volume up to accept the 'update'. then once it is done, volume up again to reboot.
you can download kernels from the evo android development subforum right here at the xda.
so first flash your rom. you can either boot up into it, or just flash the kernel right away. flash the kernel just like you would a rom, but without wiping.
enjoy.
any other questions, ask away.

100% agree. Amon Ra imo is the much more stable & user friendly recovery
Alright, so, can I do all this just from my phone? Is a pc recommended? Will my stock kernal overclock? Never flashed a rom before, I'm an electronic/computer tech so I pick up shniz pretty quick but still don't wanna b---- this sucker...
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
you can do it all from your phone if you want. i perfer downloading on my pc and transferring from there in case i want to modify anything, but you can always just dload on phone. make sure the pc36img.zip isnt in download folder or anything if you do. it needs to be on the root. your stock kernel can't overclock sadly. if you have never flashed a rom before, then cm7 will be crazy different than stock rom. most custom rom's are based off the stock htc software, just modded. cm7 is aosp, which means it is stock GOOGLE software. htc spends quite a few months modifying htc sense into google software, so the speed and memory increase is very noticable. just wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache when switching roms. you might want to backup your apps and their data using titanium backup. just dont backup system data, that can cause problems. then flash the rom after wiping, flash any kernel or addons you want (dont forget to flash gapps if it is an aosp rom, bcuz if you dont u wont have the market or anything) and reboot. for any other mods you install after that on the same rom, just wipe cache and dalvik cache and then flash away. wiping data between roms is always reccomended. if you want to stick with the cm7 nightlys, then all you need to wipe is cache and dalvik. there is never much of a problem with just flashing one over the other without a data wipe.
and forgot to mention, you cant control amon-ra recovery with rom manager. but then again, rom manager is just a touch screen version of recovery. you get used to the volume/power keys pretty quickly.
ok, im freaking out now, my phone is locked in the cm little surfer droid with the arrow circling around been constantly running for about 45 mins, im fuct, really fuct without my phone!!! its my only internet too!!! PLEASE HELP!!!
Did you do a factory wipe, Clear the cache & wipe Dalvik?
Sounds like it just wasn't a good install. Do the above in recovery & reinstall your ROM
ya did you wipe? doesnt sound like it. make sure data, cache, and dalvik cache are all wiped successfully. also make sure you are using amon-ra recovery. cwm can sometimes give you problems.
Ok so most likely I did something wrong, and not Clockwork but I really have no clue how this happened.
Started the day out on my daily driver, CM7 (#39 atm) but got the urge to flash so I figured I'd check out Evervolv. Pretty neat btw, nice work. Anyway, made a nandroid then flashed Evervolv and did some apps, setup etc, flashed an Ubuntu font pack I found in a WarmZ thread which worked fined then decided to go back to CM7 for the time being.
Restored my nandroid and I'm back in CM7, decide I miss the Ubuntu font so I flash that and get bootloops. No problem, restore my nandroid and all is well. Knowing just enough to get myself in trouble I decide to extract the fonts from the Ubuntu font pack, delete CM7 fonts located in /system/fonts, then copy the extracted Ubuntu ones to that location. Had to reboot for some reason and I'm getting bootloops again.
Here's the fun part...restored the same nandroid of #39 as before but now I'm getting bootloops on that. Tried yesterdays #39 nandroid, bootloops. Tried the Evervolv nandroid, bootloops. Every backup I had bootlooped. Btw before these restores I was formatting cache, dalvik, wipe data/factory reset, then went into mounts and wiped boot, system, data, cache. I'm paranoid I guess.
Thinking maybe the sd card was bad I ran a clean install of #39 from another sdcard without issue. Then I got the idea to put my normal sdcard back in and restore my once-was-but-now isn't working nandroid of #39 then flash #39 zip on top of it, and it worked. No more bootloop. Not only that, but now all my other backups are fine again.
So anyone have a clue what happened and how I can avoid it? My guess is I borked something messing with the system/fonts and for some reason the wipes weren't clearing it but like I said I know just enough to be dangerous. Is my wiping ritual wrong? Did I miss something? Any thoughts or ideas?
What version of clockwork were you using out of curiosity?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
3.0.0.8
HTC Incredible - CM7 - Incredikernel 2.6.37.4 (testA)
I know one of the 3.0 recoveries is known for not wiping completely. That's the only thing I can think of?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
3.0.0.8 is good far as I know. I suppose it couldn't hurt to downgrade and reflash to be sure (erase recovery checked of course)
HTC Incredible AMOLED - CM7 #39 - Incredikernel 2.6.37.6 (testA)
I think 3.0.0.7 was the one with the problem, I can't remember though. I personally use 2.5.1.2. Not really sure what else would cause that problem though, that's weird.
I was having troubles with 3.0.0.8 and was advised to switch to 3.0.0.7 and have had no problems wiping. I would try that if you think wiping might be the problem.
I'm having an issue with ROM Manager. I've contacted Koush and RA and we're are in the midst of working it out. I am curious if any one else has had the same, or similar issues.
I run CM7031 on my Evo. I recently flashed SavagedZen202 kernel from ROM Manager. I used it for about a week and I wanted to check out a taimat kernel. I backedup with CWM and tried to flash to RA to make a nandroid. ROM Manager said the RA was flashed, but when I booted into recovery I was still in CWM. I ttried everything, clearing cash, erasing recovery, un/re installing RM, flashing earlier versions of CWM. Nothing worked. So, without making a nandroid I flashed tiamat405. I figured that would clear up the issue, but I was wrong. Same issue. Finally I flashed a previous backup to CM with its original kernel and everything was fine. I could flash back and forth between CWM and RA. Thinking everything was alright and that I had done something wrong in my other backups, I flashed tiamat again. Same issue, I can not flash between recoveries.
If any one has similar issues or possible causes I'd appreciate the input.
Thanks
Kinda confused...so what actually is the problem?
Had the exact problem. Stuck on clockworkmod no matter what I do. To top it off clockworkmod didn't even work correctly, couldn't flash correctly. I tried to restore a Rom but it ended up being the same Rom, so it didn't actually restore. I ended up unrooting the phone and flash the Sprint 3.7 ruu to go back stock. Then I rooted again and RA/clockworkmod switching started working again.
I guess the problem is one of functionality, I can't flash back and forth between CWM and RA. Its not a big deal because I'm currently on RA and I like RA. But, I have to wonder if RM isn't working correctly are my nandroids backing up correctly? I could go back to CM7 kernel, but I wanted to push my OC a bit more and I wanted to use _viperboy_ scrip for uv and its built for Evo on tiamat. At least that is my understanding. So, what's the problem? A malfunctioning app, I guess! Or maybe an incompatibility between an app and a kernel?!?! And maybe something to do with the ROM? I don't know! That's why I asked.
I had a problem early on when I uped from CM6 to CM7 with Titanium backup, but I worked that out. I've been running CM7 for a while now without issue, until this.
you should just reboot in to recovery and flash your kernels from there instead of using RM its a much better way...
Yeah, I flashed SZ from RM just to kind of see how it worked. But I flashed the tiamat zip from recovery.
